My rating: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2314856541">1 of 5 stars</a><br /><br />
I have read others by Opal Carew and enjoyed them. Her books usually have characters that have been well developed and the storylines make sense. I was happy to get an advanced copy of this one for that reason. I was sorely disappointed. I pushed to finish the book, because I thought there would be some plot twist coming that would change my opinion. Once or twice, I even knew what the plot twist coming was. But where usually it would be done in such a way that it was seamless, part of the story and compelling to the plot. Instead, this time around, it felt forced and unrelated. I could not bring myself to like the characters at all. I didn't like any of them. I didn't like Abi, Liam or Del. All 3 were extremely selfish and self centered. I didn't like her family or their situation. The whole Master scenario between her and Liam felt forced and thrown in because everyone is doing it now. This entire book felt like a mishmash of plot lines and devices from other books thrown together to meet a deadline. There wasn't any development of character, plot or story. Even the sex scenes, normally handled really well by Opal, were flat and forced. The book was very formulaic which isn't always a bad thing but this one had too many formulas thrown in together and they did not mesh. I know an author puts their hearts and souls into their books and I prefer to find something enjoyable in them. I just couldn't in this one.

The idea of crossing paths with her gorgeous longtime friend Del at her brothers wedding has Abi nervous and excited, it has been a while since they have seen one another, and the last time wasn't on the best of terms. Abi's marriage was coming to an end, she was dealing with some of devastating news, and Del was there to help her sort things out. She has always been able to count on him, and has always harbored feelings for him, but he friend zoned her years ago, so she moved on and married his best friend. And while she loves Liam, she knows their marriage is never going to recover, so it's time for her to move on, and she knows exactly who she wants to move on with... Del, now she just has to convince him it's the right move for them.

But before she has a chance to make her feelings known to Del, Liam walks back into her life and her bed and muddies the waters... and leaves her wondering if she is doing the right thing. And with the right man...

X Marks the Spot is an intriguing, seductive, and emotional tale that is sure to have romance readers addicted from the first page! Within the pages of this one, you will meet a troubled woman who has deep feelings for two men; one who she is married to and hoping to divorce soon, and the other, a best friend who she harbors feelings for, and wants to make known. But these two men have plans of their own, and once they share them with her, she is left beyond confused, she thought it was a cut and dry situation, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Both want a life with her, and she can't decide which one to walk away from and which one to walk to... and man o' man was it fun to watch it all unfold... it produces an ending that you will never see coming! I really enjoyed this one, love triangles are my favorite trope and I have to say this one definitely rivaled some of my absolute favorites; it stirred the emotions, made me blush, and kept me entranced from start to finish!! Highly recommend this one, it's sure to scorch your fingertips and curl your toes!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and voluntarily read and review

I found this book somewhat slow and unbelievable. The characters seemed wishy washy, strong characters becoming weak and weak characters becoming strong. I didn't understand the marriage breakup and a 2 year pending divorce, then they are sleeping together, with her becoming pregnant, when she was told she cannot get pregnant, and then her going and sleeping with the man she has been lusting after for years.
Just too all over the place for me

I usually love Carew's erotica. However X Marks the Spot fell flat. Half way through I almost stopped reading it. The last 4-5 chapters were okay. That's why I gave the book 3 stars.

Hmmm… what to say about this book. Overall, I did like it. However, I feel like the only person who ‘won’ in this book was Abi. It would have been different for me if she wasn’t already married to Liam, but she was. So she gets her ‘cake’ and gets to ‘eat it’. Meaning she got to keep her husband and get the guy she wanted all along before even marrying Liam. Too odd for me.
This is not my first book by this author.
I did enjoy the steamy scenes of this book. I will continue to read books by this author.

What is wrong with this woman? She is all over the place and stringing along two men due to her indecision. If she wanted them both then she should have asked them to start with. Bringing the one lad along with the other lad while you make your decision on which lad to be with and then giving them both the runaround? I don't know, I didn't like her at all and I think the two boys might have been better off to head off together and leave her to her wallowing.

What a hot erotic romance. Abi, Del and Liam have such a hot relationship that you find that you’re fanning yourself when you are reading it.

When Abi and Liam’s marriage falls apart, Liam tries hard to keep Abi tied to him. But at Abi's brothers wedding, she accidentally falls into bed with Liam even though she was hoping it was Del. She finally made the decision to act on her long time attraction to Del and it went totally the wrong way...or didn't it??? Liam is determined to keep Abi, no matter what. What if it includes another person or two?

I really liked the story as well as the characters. The hot and sexy bedroom scenes are amazing!

Opal Carew has written an MFM ménage romance story with drama, scandal, humor, angst, lots of hot scenes, and a great HEA.

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.

I think it got better in the last third of the book, but Abi's indecision drove me batty. There were some hot scenes, but I just lost patience with them all.
Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the review copy in which I give my honest opinion.

This book was not what I was expecting. Of course, it has the hot steamy storyline that is known when reading Carew's books. But the pull between Liam and Abi and also with Abi and Del kept me hooked. The storyline is a natural progression and not a forced grouping of the three characters. This would make a perfect beach read.

**This book is not for the faint heart**

Frankly, I rarely like this kind of book. But I was intrigued on the story and how will it end. From the start up to the last, I was easily pulled in into the story. There are times that I want to freaking throttle the living s**t out of the characters lol. But I just can't get mad to the characters regardless of what they've done. Overall, the story is good and full of surprises!

I have read and enjoyed several of Opal Carew's books. However, I must say this one just didn't quite do it for me. The characters, especially, Abi, were just too weak and indecisive. So while I enjoy a good menage romance, this one ended up being a menage simply because Abi couldn't figure out which man she wanted and kept jumping from bed to bed. She wasn't likeable so at times I frankly wanted both men to drop her.

I have to be honest, this book started off slow and it took a while for me to get into it. It turned out to be an okay read. I think when it comes to this story, either you will like it in some way or you will totally hate it. Abi, Del and Liam characters will definitely test all of your patience when it comes to them. There were definitely moments that made had me thinking wait, what in the world just happened? I hated the push and pull with Abi; I also found her to be a very selfish at times. One minute she didn't want Liam and the next she was on her knees, yet she claimed she was mortified and embarrassed yet she did it repeatedly with both men. I do wish this author would have separated the characters actions by chapter or some sort of separation. For example, The story could be talking about something going on with Abi and Del then all of a sudden it would go to something Liam was doing. I had to go back and read it to be sure I hadn't somehow missed something; a page or a paragraph, and it happened often in this story. However, I found the ending a great one for these characters because I don't believe there was another way for their story to end.

I do Love Opal Carew.

Sizzling Romantic Love Story.,

This was a handful. Handful in the sense that I really did love the competitiveness that both Liam and Del has. But I did not like the drawn out limbo of who gets Abi. It was frustrating and made me anxious, stressful reading the book due to that.

I did love the chemistry all three had though I do wish there was something else besides the chemistry that would offset the frustration and I want her theme that was consistent through the book until the end.

X marks the spot is about loosing a child and pain that comes with it. Opal did a great job in showing the world of miscarriages and the resulting problem that occurred between Liam and Abi.

3.5 stars

This book begins with Abi going to her brothers wedding with plans of finally turning her friend zone relationship with her brothers friend Del into something more. But her brother has other plans and when Abi thinks she is getting into Dels bed, she is actually in Liam’s...her husband that she is trying to divorce.

Liam has never stopped loving Abi and he knows he has a long way to go in proving to her that he is worthy of her love and trust again...and when the sparks ignite between them, he is convinced he is well on his way until he realizes Abi thinks she is with someone else.

Del has wanted Abi from the day he met her but something has always held him back. But now, he’s done holding back and ready to make Abi his once and for all. Only he never thought Liam would end up back in the picture and now that he is, will Abi chose him?

My review:

I have read quite a few books by this author now and they all tend to follow the same pattern...decent character development with lots of steamy sex. This one was no different.

I liked all three of the characters and the story hooked me in right away. Parts of it felt really rushed while other parts felt very predictable but overall I thought it was a good read.

My thoughts:

POV: switches between the characters
Quick hook or slow starter?5 (I was hooked from the first chapter)
Character development: 3
Level of Romance between characters: 3
Passion/Heat level:4 (there is a lot of sex and at some points it almost seems like too much but it is steamy)
Angst/Heartbreak: 3 (there is conflict but it is not written in an angsty fashion.)
Cliffhanger?: No, all wrapped up with a sweet epilogue.

Overall, I thought it was good and about what I expected. A sexy entertaining read.

I received an ARC of this story from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Things didn’t quite go as expected based on the description. But I liked Abi and truly felt for her dilemma. I liked Del, and couldn’t wait for Abi to get her chance to be with him. Liam was much harder to like. Once he knew about Abi’s feelings for Del and her desire to have a relationship with him it seemed like Liam was more concerned with winning than anything else. He seemed manipulative towards Abi and he definitely used her desire for him to get his way. It wasn’t until the end that he actually realized how his actions were effecting Abi and he had some remorse.

Overall, I liked the story and I was happy with the ending. Opal doesn’t disappoint with the sex either!
