I did enjoy this book, but found it a little hard to follow at times. But that could just be me. I would recommend readers to try this book and see what they think.

I have read this book twice now it's that good. It follows the life of a few people each with different things in their life that have a- big impact on what happens to them later on. . When revenge and jealousy come together it has dire consequences which will affect them all . The story keeps you wanting to read on and has a good ending to it. I will look out for other books from this author.

I received a digital arc of #TheDeadEx from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first book I've read by Jane Corry so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was intrigued by the blurb! As someone who has epilepsy I was drawn to this book because of that - you don't find many books where the main character has this condition and I was curious how the author would portray it. She definitely did her research! I thought it was quite an accurate portrayal of one type of epilepsy, although as she explains there are many different types.

I really enjoyed the story. I loved trying to work out how Vicki, Scarlet and Helen all fitted in and knew each other. All the way through I was trying to work out if Vicki was guilty and couldn't remember or if she was being framed by someone, and if so who and why. Just prior to it being revealed I had worked it out but it was still a nice twist in the story. I wasn't expecting the final twist revealed in a suicide note though.

Overall the author created suspense, anticipation and intrigue. I couldn't put the book down. My only gripe was a few spelling and formatting errors which I assume will have been corrected for publication. I would recommend this and would read more by Jane Corry in the future.

I absolutely loved Jane Corry's previous novel, Blood Sisters (reviewed here) and was so looking forward to reading her 2018 release, The Dead Ex. But then life got in the way, reading unfortunately got pushed aside as I seemed to roll from one drama of my own to another and I didn't get around to it. Well, aren't I kicking myself now after finally picking it up this week? Once again, I was completely sucked in and held captive by Jane's twisty, compulsive writing as I devoured this addictive book in a couple of days.

The Dead Ex begins with alternating chapters told from the perspective of Vicki, a reclusive, seemingly timid aromatherapist who definitely has something to hide in the present, and Scarlett, ten years previously, an eight year old child who's caught up in her chaotic mother's criminal activities. Both narrators where fascinating and gripping, but what really intrigued me was trying to work out just what connected the two of them together. There is absolutely no way I could have guessed, and loved the turn the book took!

There's a LOT of theme's running through this book - child neglect and family loyalty, Female relationships and bonds, a need for a sense of belonging, ambition, power, loss of identity...it goes on. Vicki is a fascinating character with so many layers that even by the end I'm not sure I'd seen them all. Jane Corry writes each aspect of her so convincingly, I completely believed in her. I also absolutely loved the references to aromatherapy oils and uses, which I find fascinating and felt really complimented the book.

I flew through this book, despite reading it over a couple of busy days, grabbing any moment I could to read a bit more. With fascinating and complex characters and a plot that left me second guessing at every turn, this is compulsive reading at it's best. An absolute page turner that manages to surprise and shock over and over again.

I would rate this 3.5 stars.

This was a fun thriller, it took me on quite a ride trying to figure out exactly what was happening. I did think the book had a few issues at the end which overall brought my rating down.

Overall, an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this book a lot despite finding the switching time lines a little confusing to start with. It had plenty of twists and some interesting characters, and I will definitely be looking out for the next book by this author.

A tense thriller with two strands of a story woven together, that builds to a clever conclusion. Will Vicki prove she didn't kill her ex when she's not even sure herself?

This had the right formula for being a truly twisted psychological, brilliant book but it just misses its mark. The execution wasnt quite there for me and I was left feeling like I was just being dragged through pages for the sake of it.

This begins as a very good story involving four women and a missing husband. The plot seems to stagnate halfway through and the conclusion was rather disappointing.

I started this but just wasn't feeling it. There was nothing inherently wrong with it I just wasn't feeling it at the time, however having been really excited about this book beforehand I would definitely like to try again at a later date.

HE CHEATED.

HE LIED.

HE DIED.

Vicki's husband Daniel once promised to love her in sickness and in health. But after a brutal attack left her suffering with epilepsy, he ran away with his mistress.

So when Vicki gets a call one day to say that he's missing, her first thought is 'good riddance'. But then the police find evidence suggesting that Daniel is dead. And they think Vicki had something to do with it.

What really happened on the night of Daniel's disappearance?

And how can Vicki prove her innocence, when she's not even sure of it herself?

At first I couldn't work out who was who, but I went with it in the hope that the characters would become clear. Gradually they did. And as they did, so I began to really like this book.

There's a lot I would like to say about this book, but I won't for fear of giving away spoilers. This is a very good read and I will look out for more books by this author. 4.5*

This was a great read, an enjoyable book in this genre. The characters are not initially likeable, but as the story progresses the main protagonist had my sympathy, and my attention.

First off, the title in itself, ‘The Dead Ex’, is misleading. There is no dead ex. I understand this was probably used as a title to add intrigue and complement the psychological thriller element of the story, but it’s inaccurate.

The plot itself was so convoluted and confusing, with so many characters jumping in and out, timelines moving backwards and forwards, that each chapter takes a little while to work out what on earth is going on. The middle part of the book is pretty dull, and as this is quite a long book this really did drag. I was determined to find out what the end result / climax was (although not much of a climax if I’m completely honest), but I can’t say that I enjoyed the process of getting there. This book required so much concentration that if you put it down for more than a day or two, you’d be utterly confused!

On paper the storyline was right up my street but I’m afraid to say the execution was disappointing. The characters were two dimensional and the jumping around was chaotic. Normally on a sunbathing holiday I would read a book like this in a day but sadly this book didn’t draw me in enough and towards the third day I actually had a sense of dread at picking it up. The ending was particularly disappointing and introduced one dimensional characters who had only had walk on parts through the rest of the book. However I’ve awarded an extra star for the sensitivity in writing about epilepsy.

This story is about Vicki who suffers from epilepsy and works as an aromatherapist in a quiet seaside town. It is clear that she is trying to hide something from her past from the beginning. The police turn up one day announcing that her ex-husband has been missing for some time and want to know if she has seen him recently. This unwanted visit from the police brings back memories that she was trying to banish.

As the story unfolds the author brings the story in from the past of a young girl called Scarlet, it is quite difficult from the beginning to ascertain where this ties into the plot with Vicki and her missing husband. However following through the story and as events unfold you find out the truth about Scarlet in the end. I did find this a little difficult to follow at times and struggled to fit these pieces together.

However overall I enjoyed reading this novel and would like to thank Negalley for the opportunity to read it.

Jane Corry does it again - another gripping and clever story, so well researched and filled with twists and turns.

Vicki feels little sadness on hearing that her ex-husband is missing but when she's accused of involvement in his disappearance, must prove her innocence. Full of twists and suspenseful moments, 'The Dead Ex' is a gripping read.
