Such a great book! I love this type of story where the author allows the reader solve the mystery alongside the protagonist. This one was of the best I've read in quite awhile. Bradley kept me guessing until the very end.
There was so much to like about the characters. Rachel Sloan is smart but has a quick wit about her that made the interaction between her and Boone a blast to watch. Boone has the gentle tough guy persona that makes him a great cop and leading man.
Although a book three in the series you can definitely read this one without reading the first two. (My guess once you've read this one you'll want to read the other two!)
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was an enjoyable read that kept me guessing with enough clues to leave me uncertain who was behind the murders until the author revealed the true perp. That doesn't happen often! Rich characters, real-life issues, and a need to sit down and talk to each other, but events moved too fast to allow it. Very satisfying mystery with taste of suspense layered over the top. The romance was beautiful!
There are so many things to love about this Memphis Cold Case novel. 1) It is hugely suspenseful. I just spent all afternoon reading it. I couldn’t put it down. There’s a cold case and a new homicide and there are many ties or connections between the two as well as many potential suspects.
2) It starts when an Elvis impersonator….*ahem….”Tribute artist” tells Detective Rachel Sloan that he wants her help solving his friend’s murder. I grew up listening to Elvis and found the Elvis contest fascinating.
3) It has quirky, interesting characters like Rachel’s two opinionated grandmas. They text and have social media pages. They’re overly interested in Rachel’s love life and especially in her Supervisor, Boone. They’re a riot.
4) The danger doesn’t quit. As Rachel gets closer to the truth, more people are revealed to have motive and become potential suspects. Making a wrong decision about who to trust could be deadly.
I would highly recommend this book. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Memphis Cold Case Novels:
Book 1: Justice Delayed
Book 2: Justice Buried
Book 3: Justice Betrayed
Rachel Sloan sticks her neck out in Justice Betrayed, Book #3 of the Memphis Cold Case series. Rachel is new to the homicide department so she wants to prove herself worthy of the job. She's smart and skilled, but her emotions tend to get the best of her. In other words, she's a realistic hero. I enjoyed the banter and friendship between Rachel and Lieutenant Boone, as well as the relationship Rachel has with a young friend. If you love Elvis, that adds another plus to the story. There are plenty of references to him and his legacy. This story is an exciting mix of CSI and Cold Case. I received this book for free from Revell with no expectation of a good or bad review.
Patricia Bradley returns to Memphis. And what says Memphis more than Elvis Presley?
When Detective Rachel Sloan is approached by an Elvis tribute artist about a murder more than a decade old who later turns up dead, she’s forced to confront a tragedy from her past.
With attacks, investigations, interviews, an Elvis contest, and more, Rachel and a former flame, Boone Callahan (who is now her Lieutenant) are thrust together. Boone knows Rachel is something special but Rachel is focus on her career and doesn’t want to jeopardize it for romance.
Justice Betrayed gives readers a taste of Memphis. Elvis contests, Beale Street, The Pink Palace, and more. But more than that, it is a romantic suspense with lots of suspects! My guess at who the murder is changed with every interview or piece of uncovered evidence. Even getting the villains point of view didn’t help narrow down who did it.
Another fast-paced, keep-you-guessing romantic suspense in the Memphis Cold Case series.

This is the seventh of Patricia Bradley's eleven books that I have had the pleasure of reading. She quickly became one of my favorite mystery writers, and remains in that group with Justice Betrayed, the third book in her Memphis Cold Case series.
Homicide detective Rachel Sloan is not so sure how serious to take the Elvis tribute artist who showed up at her desk in full Elvis attire, until that is he mentions a connection to the unsolved mystery of her mother's murder. As the case progresses it becomes deadly serious as connections begin to appear between more cases, both past and present, and Rachel's own life appears to be threatened.
Lieutenant Boone Callahan, Rachel's superior officer, has mixed emotions about Rachel's move to the homicide division of the Memphis Police Department; working in the division would eliminate the possibility of renewing their relationship, and he couldn't help feeling protective of her as it became apparent that her current case was becoming personal. His own past as an army officer in Iraq was impacting their situation almost as much as Rachel's history with the suspects and victims in this case. What would it take to sort through all of these issues, and would it be too late?
I read Justice Betrayed in two days, putting other responsibilities on the back burner while becoming immersed in this story. I highly recommend it to mystery fans. If you are a fan of Colleen Coble, Lynette Eason, or Sandra Orchard, you will enjoy Patricia Bradley as well. I thank NetGalley and Revell Publishing for providing me with a copy of Justice Betrayed in exchange for an honest review. I received no monetary compensation and was under no obligation to give a positive review.
With Elvis impersonators, unsolved murders, and an unstable murderer, Justice Betrayed is bound to leave readers all shook up!
Detective Rachel Sloan thinks she is ready for whatever comes her way until an Elvis impersonator comes asking for her help. Vic Vegas knew her before her mother died and wants Rachel to help look into a cold case that might even be related to what happened to her mother. When Vic’s house is broken into and trouble follows the case, Rachel starts to think there might be more to this case than she or anyone else originally thought. As things heat up in the case, so does the tension between Rachel and her Lieutenant, Boone Callahan. They had a small spark between them once but were not able to pursue the relationship being in the same unit at the department. Trying to solve the case will take them working together and putting aside any differences they might have in order to stop a potential serial killer from claiming any more victims.
Patricia Bradley has found a knock-out formula for romantic suspense with the Memphis cold case series. The characters are real and easy to relate to and the story itself is one that readers will enjoy to the end. I found Rachel a great lead, she was sure of herself but not cocky. She went after what she wanted even if others around her didn’t agree with her decisions and she followed her heart and stayed true to that. I didn’t want to like Boone at first but it didn’t take long at all for him to grow on me and find myself not only routing for him but also the relationship between the him and Rachel. It was a fun mystery with the cold cases and the relationship between that and the murder of Rachel’s mother. I’m sure there is an entire circuit of people devoted to that and cases within as well so I enjoyed seeing how Bradley brought the story to life. This is one of those books that fans of not only Patricia Bradley but fans of romantic suspense in general will enjoy and want to continue the series to see what happens with the characters and what other cold cases they can try and solve.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
This is the third book in this series and all can stand alone, they all deal with cold case murders.
The author has given us a case with a homicide detective working active cases, she is given information that may lead to who killed her mother seventeen years ago.
Wow, you will be scratching your head and wondering, and then thinking you know who committed the crimes. In the meantime, the bodies are climbing.
For Detective Rachel Sloan, the case becomes personal, and her new boss Lt. Boone Callahan is there to help. We also add in a lot of Elvis’s, both past and present, and it all gets tied together.
You are in for a great mystery and once you think you have solved it, be prepared to change your mind, more than once, the author keeps you on your toes.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
Another awesome read in this series!
Detective Rachel Sloan always believed there was more to her mother's murder 17 years ago than just a burglary gone wrong. When an Elvis impersonator shows up at her office with a picture of her mother and several Elvis impersonators, Rachel wants to re-examine the circumstances surrounding her mother's death. Rachel believes there is a connection, especially when others from the photo have been murdered or attempts have been made on their lives. Rachel's boss, and former boyfriend, Lieutenant Boone Callahan isn't sure Rachel should involve herself in a case so closely connected to her own family. However, when it seems someone is desperate to get clues directly to Rachel, Boone begins to wonder if she is being set up to become the next victim.
This is the third book in the series, and probably my personal favorite so far. I enjoyed the main characters Rachel and Boone very much. They went from being in a relationship to being co-workers, and even though neither wants to admit it they realize they still have strong feelings for each other. They must decide if the careers they have always dreamed of having are more important than pursuing a relationship, and decide what changes they would be willing to make in order for one or both to happen.
*I received an ARC of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed Justice Betrayed and had problems putting it down near the end. Detective Rachel Sloan of the Memphis Police Department gets a late Friday afternoon visitor. It is Elvis Week in Memphis and that means contests to find the best of the Elvis Tribute Artists (not impersonators) all vying for a $20,000 prize. Vic Vegas, dressed in his Elvis attire, visits Rachel at her department requesting she look into the murder of his friend Harrison Foxx, who was murdered seventeen years ago. He shows her a picture of an event that took place a few nights prior to Harrison's death. In the photo, Rachel and her mom, were with four Elvis impersonators and Rachel was presenting a trophy to Harrison, the winner of the gala that night. Later that same night, Rachel's mother was murdered in their home where she was alone at the time. Rachel was a young teenager when this happened and her life changed that night-has never recovered. Her mother and Harrison had gone to high school together and were friends. Her mother's murder was determined to be a burglary gone awry. Harrison's was never solved. Vic wants Rachel to open his case and he has files to show his own investigation. He tells her that her mom's murder is tied into Harrison's. In shock, she agreed to meet him at her office the next morning to get the files but before he could meet her to deliver the files, someone killed him. Lt. Boone Callahan is Rachel's boss and someone that she dated before she moved to Homicide. He and Rachel work together to try to find out who killed Vic and how it might be related to Harrison's death. They start their investigation by going to the Elvis events to check out those who are involved in the events and who knew both Vic and Harrison. It becomes apparent that someone doesn't want Rachel to investigate the murder when a strange package shows up at a party at her father's home containing Ricin. Then another Elvis impersonator is attacked. This is a great suspense that is layered with twists and turns and includes many different people that appear to have a reason to be have wanted the victims killed. We knew who the killer was but not the name that the person was using so I was constantly trying to figure out who was the killer. Justice Betrayed deals with issues of unresolved hurt, forgiveness and overcoming fear of being hurt that faith helps bring about. There is also some romance that is simmering under the surface. This is a great addition to the series.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. The opinions stated are mine only.
If you enjoy a good mystery this is a book you will thoroughly enjoy. Rachel takes on a cold case that might be linked to her mothers murder from 17 years ago. She puts herself in danger following clues to solve the murders that have just occurred in hopes to find answers to her mothers death. This book leaves you hanging until the end. It is one of her must reads.
Given an ARC by Netgalley and Revell for my honest review.
OUTSTANDING!
Justice Betrayed (A Memphis Cold Case Novel Book 3) by Patricia Bradley is outstanding! It’s Elvis Week in Memphis so the city is filled with Elvis wannabes, Elvis impersonators and then the Elvis tribute artists. There is a big difference in all of these. Detective Rachel Sloan is going to find out just how strange the world of Elvis Week is when she has to immerse herself inside one of the competitions to help solve a cold case that took place seventeen years ago. As she attempts to learn whether there is anything to this new information, a new murder occurs which greatly complicates matters. Lieutenant Boone Callahan offers to help but the officers are desperately trying to fight their attraction to each other. This case quickly becomes complex and intense! The characters are real and believable. Bradley does a masterful job with the plot and will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is one you won’t want to miss! I was provided an ARC of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
I enjoyed this police procedure mystery taking place in Memphis. It contains a good combination of a current homicide investigation and an unsolved homicide from years ago. The novel also has a good balance of character development and plot movement.
The two people investigating the murder, Rachel and Boone, had previously dated but she had broken off the relationship. She is convinced a romance would not work, especially since they work in the same police department. But feelings are still there, for both of them.
That this novel takes place in Memphis is fun. The man recently murdered was an Elvis tribute artist. We learn quite a bit about the events taking place in the city related to the famous man. We find out that the unsolved murder of Rachel's mother, years ago, may be related to what is happening now.
Trying to figure out who the murderer is turned out to be a good quest. We know it is someone in the current life of Rachel. There are several suspects and a few red herrings to keep us guessing.
I do recommend this novel to readers who like a good balance of character involvement and ongoing police investigation. The suspense is little until the end.

This is the third novel in a series. You can read the reviews of the previous novels: Justice Delayed and Justice Buried.

#partner #sponsored I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
It is Elvis week in Memphis, but the serial murderer’s victims date back 17 years. But the police have not yet connected the dots. And, if Shirley is lucky, they still will not be doing so any time soon.
Rachel Sloan was on loan to the Homicide division from Burglary and had met the victim the night before at her office. Now she had to investigate his death. Lieutenant Boone Callahan was her supervising officer – and he wanted to be involved. That shouldn’t be a problem, except they had dated before her move to homicide; and superior officers could not date those in their charge. It might create problems.
This killer was smart – different modus operandi, seemingly disconnected victims, over a period of 17 years. It would take the combined efforts of Rachel, Boone, and other law enforcement personnel to put the pieces of the puzzle together before more murders would occur.
The plot is intriguing – and should hold the reader’s interest for the book’s 350 pages. It missed a beat somewhere – at least until the last 20% or so of the book. At that point I could not put it down. Others may find more satisfaction in the book.

A romantic suspense book with a woman missing for over 20 years and a convention of Elvis impersonators. I did enjoy the book but I really do not like books that keep flashing back in time, it is a distraction while reading a story
The third book in the Memphis Cold Case series takes place during Elvis Week. For all the Elvis fans, this book will be an interesting read. The story has lots of twists and turns as Rachel and Boone try to solve a present day case that is linked to a cold case involving the murder of Rachel's mother. I'm hoping that this series continues as Rachel and Boone's relationship grows. Recommended!
I have never read any books by Patricia Bradley before. I thought her new book, Justice Betrayed was an okay read. It had many characters that were all connected in some way, but I had a hard time keeping straight who knew who. The plot was interesting; the story surrounds the annual Elvis tribute artist contest. When one of the artists ends up dead and a second is almost killed, local detective Rachel Sloan takes notice.
She is assisted by Boone, a man she dated a few times but she broke it off. She is reluctant to have him back in life, but Boone still cares about her and wants to protect her. The book was very light on romance, very light on Christianity and kept my attention until the end.
Justice Betrayed is the third book in the Memphis Cold Case series, a collection of stand-alone novels that follow individuals with a gift for finding answers to crimes long left unsolved. Justice Betrayed follows its predecessors as an exciting romantic mystery.
Detective Rachel Sloan joined the police force hoping to one day solve her mother’s cold murder case. When an Elvis impersonator demands to speak with Rachel about another cold case he is sure is tied to her mother’s death, Rachel isn’t sure if he is crazy or has discovered fragments of truth long buried. But when Rachel receives threats to leave the case alone, she and her supervisor, Lieutenant Boone Callahan will have to work hard to piece together the clues of this puzzling case.
Justice Betrayed opens with a prologue set nearly 40 years ago, and offers the first tantalising clue in this story that combines both cold and new cases. Readers first met Detective Rachel Sloan and Lieutenant Boone Callahan in the second book in the Memphis Cold Case series, when they handled the main case involved in that story. However, if you haven’t read Justice Buried, it’s easy to pick up on their shared history and roles within the police department.
Boone and Rachel dated for a few weeks when Rachel was working in the burglary department. Now that she has switched to homicide, Boone is her supervisor and a relationship between them is prohibited. But it’s more than just department regulations preventing them from seeing where their intense chemistry and sparking connection leads. Both have a painful history that they are unwilling to share. Working together on the case allows them the opportunity to start peeling back the layers. Yet, because of the restrictions, the romance in Justice Betrayed doesn’t much stray beyond romantic tension and the promise of more.
Thanks to sections written from the murderer’s perspective, it’s clear to the reader early on who committed the crimes that Rachel is investigating. Yet, it’s not clear who that is in the wider scheme of things. There are plenty of possible suspects and enough clues, hints, and red herrings to keep any amateur sleuth guessing. The mystery culminates in a suspenseful finish.
Justice Betrayed is a thrilling mystery, with enough Elvis for any fan and a touch of romance.
The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
In Ms. Bradley’s latest Memphis Cold Case book, an Elvis impersonator comes to Detective Rachel Sloan to tell her he has been trying to solve his friend’s murder. Before Rachel can get the evidence from him, he is murdered himself. Throughout the story, Rachel is trying to discover all of the who’s and why’s between everything that is occurring. Boone and Rachel are in a race to uncover everything while also trying to determine if they can trust each other. I have always enjoyed reading Ms. Bradley’s books and I loved this new addition to her latest series! I highly recommend this book and also suggest if you haven’t read the other books in the series to do so. You could read this book without reading the others if needed. You will not be disappointed after reading her books. They are so detailed and engaging!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
JUSTICE BETRAYED....June 5
Homicide detective Rachel, Vic asks her to look at a cold case from seventeen years ago. Saying it also was connected to her mother’s murder. A photo with 4 Elvis impersonators and her mother, who was a big fan of Elvis. When murder once again happens, now to find out the connections, who, and why was the murders done. Rachel has three cases now to work on, is she a threat, and killer wanting to make it four. Will Boone be there for her, plot is tense, full of suspense, and intrigue, not to be missed reading. Given ARC by Net Galley and Revell for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
