A page turner and 5th book it the Montana Rescue Series. This book deals with the aftermath of a Tornado and I recommend reading the series in order.
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of this series and of Susan May Warren’s books in general, so keep that in mind when I say that Storm Front wasn’t my favourite Montana Rescue story. Is it worth reading? Absolutely. I love Ty Remington—probably the quietest and most steadfast of the PEAK Rescue team members—and I loved the storyline between him and Brette, but overall, this one seemed less edge-of-your-seat and not quite as tightly edited as previous books in the series.
But as I said, that’s not to say it’s not worth reading, especially in view of the series as a whole. The beginning of Ty and Brette’s relationship played out in A Matter of Trust, so I was already invested in seeing its resolution. As with each of the books in this series, there’s also a secondary couple whose story develops alongside the main characters’. In this case, Kacey and Ben (from Wild Montana Skies) are back, sorting through a few issues that have arisen. Then there are some developments with Pete and Jess (I am SO eagerly anticipating the resolution to their story!!) and an epilogue that very strongly hints at what’s to come for Shae (Esme). Throw in the odd tornado or two and you can see there’s plenty going on, despite my feeling it was less edge-of-your-seat than others in the series!
But back to Ty and Brette. Despite this not being my favourite of the series overall, theirs is the story that has tugged at my heartstrings the most—well, unless you count Pete and Jess’s complete mangling of the heartstrings, but that’s a different kind of tug! Brette is dealing with breast cancer and a double mastectomy, and while Ty is resolute in his determination not to give up on either Brette or the missing students, he’s all but given up on himself, struggling to believe he still has a place on the PEAK Rescue team. Theirs is a sweet story amidst the drama, in large part because Ty is such a sweetheart (in a manly kind of way!)
But now, it has to be said: BRING ON PETE AND JESS’S STORY!
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.
This is a wonderful story regarding how you handle disaster when I happens to you. It will either draw you closer to those you love or make you put walls up to protect yourself. I would recommend this book.
Given ARC by Net Galley and Revell for my honest opinion.
Storm Front Is the fifth installment from Susan May Warren’s series, Montana Rescue. I suggest to the reader to read the others in the series 1st before reading this one. I like the other others of the series, but this one was a little slower and harder to get into. I give it 3 1/2 stars.
Storm Front picks up about a year after the events of Troubled Waters and 18 months after A Matter of Trust, where readers first met Brette Arnold. When Brette disappeared from Ty's life at the end of A Matter of Trust, I assumed I knew why ... and I couldn't have been more wrong. (Don't worry, I won't spoil it for you.)
Brette and Ty meet again when Brette's storm chasing team and PEAK Rescue members converge on a small town in Minnesota that was just hit by a tornado. Though they only knew each other a few days before Brette ran away, their attraction and connection is strong once they see each other again. Both grow personally and spiritually throughout the book, and their eventual reunion is sweet and romantic.
Brette and Ty aren't the only love story in the novel: Ben and Kacey, the couple from Wild Montana Skies, still haven't tied the knot, and it's beginning to look like they never will. They go through a lot over the course of the novel, and I enjoyed catching up with them. So many romance novels end with the couple happily together, and, as a reader, you're tempted to believe that life for the pair is all sunshine and rainbows after that. I appreciate that Warren is combating that notion (while still giving our beloved characters happy endings).
As with all the other Montana Rescue novels, action and adventure feature heavily into the plot, and I particularly enjoyed reading about the search for missing people in the tornado's aftermath.
Storm Front ends on a massive cliffhanger, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next novel, which will finally give some resolution to the Pete and Jess romance! 5 stars.
Note: The Montana Rescue books really do need to be read in order. The relationships build from one novel to the next, so, while you could read and enjoy Storm Front without having first read the others in the series, you'd probably be overwhelmed by the characters, and you wouldn't understand the back stories or know the beginnings of the romances featured.
Ty Remington is a member of PEAK, he hasn't flown since the crash, and blames himself , yet he shows up whenever PEAK gets a call. He still thinks about Brette, the girl he met a year ago and has been praying for ever since she disappeared from the hospital.
Brette made it through her treatment, but lost her faith. She's become a stormchaser, and loves the thrill of risking it all for a good shot. After a tornado devastates a town in Minnesota, Ty and his team come back into her life, is there a future for her with the man she ran from a year ago?
When a tornado hits in Minnesota, leaving their team leader, Chet, missing, Ty is determined to do everything in his power to bring him home safe. Ty is surprised to find Brette in Minnesota, will they be able to rekindle their friendship and recover the missing people before it's too late?
Ty wants to be a good friend to Brette, even though she keeps pushing him away. It break his heart when he finds out what she went through all by herself. He knows that there are things that she doesn't want to talk about, but he tries to be there, and respect her wishes, but he also shares some of his own struggles. Ty is honest about his feelings for Brette, but doesn't push and keeps praying for her.
I loved how this book still follows the team members form previous books, like Ben and Kacey, who are still trying to work their wedding in around crazy schedules.
Brette comes to admire Ty and face her fears, I love how they work together to track down the missing people.
Action packed, full of tension, with a lot going on. I like revisiting past characters from the previous books, and I like how this series continues to follow them even after they fall in love. Great interaction and plenty of adventure, I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Each book I read by Susan May Warren seems to be better than the last. I loved the story she wove together for Ty and Brette in Storm Front, and that Ben and Kacey made another appearance. I can’t wait for Jess and Pete’s story to finally be told in the upcoming book!
Susan May Warren continues the story of Montana’s PEAK Rescue team members in “Storm Front,” which focuses on former chopper pilot Ty Remington and journalist Brette Arnold.
Ty is still struggling to find his role in life. He feels like he’s just the muscle and go-getter for PEAK, feeling deeply inadequate and inefficient. And he still struggles with the fact that the woman he fell madly in love with, Brette, has walked out of his life without one single look back.
But what he doesn’t realize is that Brette, who is currently working with a storm chasing group as a photographer and blogger, has had struggles of her own — devastating struggles that she feels she must face on her own.
When the two are brought together after a devastating tornado in Minnesota, can they put aside their fears and doubts to help friends — new and old — find missing loved ones? And can they come together in truth and honesty to build a relationship?
“Storm Front” is an action-packed, heart-thumping novel that quite simply is difficult to put down. With devastatingly powerful storms, missing people and search parties, it also includes toe-curling romance.
Once again Susan May Warren develops incredibly real and relatable characters — filled with doubts, fears, insecurities, hopes and lack of hope, and just about every other imaginable flaw. It deals with overcoming great loss, and she also does a brilliant job of not only providing an incredible story, but also teaching amazing lessons.
The main theme, as the title hints at, deals with weathering the storms of life, and how each of us chooses to weather those storms. She reminds us to “accept the storm and ride it out without a whimper”. “Storm Front” reminds us that we must look past the storm and find the sunshine, or the hope, in each situation.
And through Brette’s personal battles, this novel also hits on the topic of beauty, both inner and outer, and the difficulty in finding the beauty in ourselves.
This is the fifth book in a series, but could be read as a standalone, although I would highly recommend reading the rest of the books. However, I do feel Warren offers enough background if this is your first experience with the Montana Rescue series.
Storm Front
Susan May Warren
This is probably my least favorite novel of the series. I liked Ty and Brett’s characters enough but felt like their relationship was forced (yes, I know that they are completely made up characters). There was not much to support their relationship but a few hours worth of conversation.
Maybe I missed it in her other novels but Warren’s narrative seemed unnatural with her word choice. The vocabulary, while rich, stood out against the story as too flowery and wordy rather than flow with the story. While it distracted from the story, I still enjoyed the read and am looking forward to the conclusion coming soon.

I am reviewing a copy of Storm Front through Revell and Netgalley:
Amongst the missing after a Tornado destroys a Small Minnesota Community is Peak Rescue Team leader Chet King. Ty Remington is determined to find his mentor and his friend, not even the girl he loves walking back into his life will stop Ty from going on this rescue mission.
Brette Arnold didn’t expect her adventures as a blogger for Vortex Storm Chasers to land her in the same place as Ty Remington the guy she had run from over a year prior. She had her reasons and they were good one’s but Ty isn’t a man who is going to easily give up!
Will Ty be able to rescue his mentor Chet King?
Will Brette and Ty find their happily ever after?
I give Storm Front five out of five stars!
Happy Reading
An excellent edition to the series! I love the ongoing story lines and how characters returned in this story.
Storm Front - personal - What do I mean by that? I mean Ms. Warren has made these characters very personal to the readers and she does that right from the get go - actually she did that from book one in the series but this book like all the others stand alone. The author brings them to life with such an adventurous story line mixed with suspense and romance and most of all Faith. You just can't go wrong with that can you?
Some books are harder to rate than others are. The only difficulty I had rating Storm Front is that there aren’t more stars to give it.
My emotions ran amok as I read. I smiled. I sighed. I started. I shuddered. I sobbed. I swooned. (Okay, I didn’t really sob, but I couldn’t come up with a word meaning got teary-eyed that starts with an “S”.) This compelling book by author Susan May Warren was such a satisfactory story.
I am not an adrenaline junkie, nor do I have even an inkling of what causes people to do the crazy kinds of things they do, such a chasing storms. No, thank you! I like being in control and safe. However, I get it now, at least a little, what drives people to seek out tornadoes. I had no idea that part of the point is that human eyes and instinct are really necessary to predict where they will hit to issue warnings. Hmm.
Brette broke my heart. The fear that controlled her life and the absence of hope were so sad to behold. The way she felt she needed to keep her pain and cancer away from all her friends so they wouldn’t feel compelled to help her. Yeah, she made me almost cry. I wanted so badly to reach through the pages so I could hug her!
The road Ty traveled, from despondency and guilt to purpose and hope was so beautiful. I love the fact that he never really let go of his faith, and how he was able to express so wonderfully what he believes and why. His heart for those who are lost is the kind of heart I want!
“That’s what love does – it goes into the storm to rescue, or protect, or just to stick around and share in the suffering.”
I loved the way that the “Christian” aspects of this book flowed from it so naturally. Though the characters in the story struggled with faith through the dark times they experienced, God’s faithfulness shone through loud and clear.
“At first, I was so afraid. Filled with dread.” Lottie said quietly. “Except, dread is produced by the fear of going through something alone…and I wasn’t alone. God doesn’t promise to keep the storm away, but he says he’ll be with me through it. My faith won’t protect me from the loss, but it will carry me and keep me from despair.”
This story has many characters from previous books in the Montana Rescue series, and it is obvious that though the story can stand alone, that it is designed for you to read each of the books in order.
First, let me say that I’ve never read any of Warren’s books. I quickly discovered that Storm Front belonged to a series, and I’d landed smack-dab in the middle of it (It’s Book 5 in the Montana Rescue series). Although the book purports to follow Ty and Brette’s storyline, Warren masterfully weaves in multiple characters from other books in the series. It took me 60 pages or so to get acquainted with the entire cast.
Ty Remington, former helicopter pilot for PEAK search and rescue team, can’t understand why the woman he had started to fall in love with walked out of his life over a year ago. He struggles with demons form his past, as well as feelings of inadequacy and remorse over decision he’s made. But he’s come to a point in his life where he has to choose to become a victor or stay a victim.
Brette Arnold, photographer and blogger for a tornado chasing team, has been running ever since her cancer diagnosis—a diagnosis that hit her out of the blue like an F5 tornado. Her search for the perfect shot might end her life before cancer takes it, but she doesn’t care. When her path leads her to a small community in Minnesota, she’s faced once again with the only man who has ever touched her soul—but one she walked out on—Ty Remington.
Readers will enjoy learning about tornados and storm chasing in this fast-paced novel that leaves the reader turning pages late into the night.

Story Notes
Susan May Warren brings to her readers the much anticipated fifth installment in her Montana Rescue series, telling the story of Ty Remington, former helo pilot who has yet to face the demons from his past.
Mary Francis Winters said “We all need a little extra support sometimes” and this story is one of the best illustrations of that quote. Ms. Warren has finally given her readers the back story of Ty Remington, one of the most mysterious members of the PEAK rescue team. A man of few words and even fewer details about his life before joining PEAK, Ty has been running from his past while helping other members of the team move beyond theirs. He’s also nursing a broken heart from his year ago encounter with the indomitable Brette Arnold, a photographic journalist who carries more secrets than Ty ever dreamed. Her sudden disappearance just when Ty was really starting to feel something for her cost Ty both his heart and his confidence in his ability to help. When a huge storm system moves through Minnesota while team leader Chet King is visiting his son Ben on his music tour, the team will find themselves moving out of their comfort zone as they assist in rescues in the wake of a massive tornado. Ty knows that Chet would have taken cover when the weather took a turn for the worse, but Chet’s not the only one missing after the storm. A cross country team is also missing along with the team coaches – and no one seems to know where the team was doing their latest practice. PEAK Rescue arrives with every intention of finding all those who are missing but Ty will be the one who finds more than the others when he comes face to face with the woman who still holds his heart – Brette Arnold. Brette has spent the past year fighting an aggressive form of breast cancer that has ravaged her body and left her with scars inside and out. Knowing that Ty would have wanted to help her in any way possible and wanting to keep him from suffering alongside her, Brette ran from the possibility of a life with him, never considering whether he might be just the help she needs. And just when she has finally accepted that she is fully in remission and back to her photography work, she comes across Ty who is in town to help with the rescues. His shock at the change in her leads him to say unintentionally rude words, that instantly get Brette’s back up and cause her to snap at him for his insensitivity. As they both try to find those who are missing, Ty and Brette will have to determine a way to move past the hurts they’ve caused each other and forgive themselves for past mistakes. Ty is so used to stepping in to help physically or monetarily those he knows need help that he often overlooks his most powerful way to help – prayer. And Brette has depended on herself for so long that she is loath to accept help from others – believing that she is doing what is best for them. But each of them will find that they themselves need others to walk with them through life and sometimes, they just need to let themselves be rescued and cared for by those around them. Ms. Warren fully destroys the notion that many people have that “I can do everything on my own”. God made us with a need to connect to others and that means we sometimes have to let them come in and carry us when life knocks us off our feet. And although we may have good reasons for not letting others in, we both miss out on a blessing and are robbing them of the chance to be a blessing to us. In my life I have seen that while it is truly humbling to ask for help, there is GREAT spiritual healing and comfort that comes in knowing that others care for you deeply. The immense joy and peace that fills me when I reach out to family/friends and they respond with such enthusiasm to my request shows me I am not alone in my troubles. There is no substitute for the kindness of a friend who walks your road with you and sometimes carries you when you are too tired to take another step. These are the concepts that Ms. Warren strives to teach with this story. The only reason I gave this story a lower rating than I usually would is that the series seems to be dragging on a bit. While I have loved getting to know each of the characters, I feel like there has been some unnecessary rehashing of issues that seemed to be resolved in previous books. Case in point – Ben King and Kacey Fairing were the first couple that Ms. Warren created a story for and I thought they had worked through all their trust issues. But apparently they needed to go through another crisis to really decide if they were going to get married. Not that couples don’t often have to work through issues more than once in their relationship but it just seemed like Kacey was being petty and creating a scenario that had no real basis. I am however, excited to see what will become of Pete and Jess in the next story. They both have some serious problems with holding grudges and it will be a great story to read when available. I will both recommend this book and the series to others as I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all the members of the PEAK team. Great series, Ms. Warren, you’ve done very well!!
I received this E-Book free of charge from Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation from either company for this review.
Storm Front was definitely a page turner from start to finish packed with plenty of action. Having lived in Texas for many years and dealing with tornadoes, I really enjoyed the premise of the story with the PEAK search and Rescue Team. This is the first book in this series I have read so it took me a few chapters before I got the characters all straight in my head, but it definitely didn't spoil the story for me although I would imagine reading the stories in sequence would give the characters greater depth and the reader more insight.
Britte and Ty along with Ben and Kacey were all dealing with their own personal relationship storms in the midst of the incredible devastation caused by this massive tornado. I got frustrated with all of them at one point or another as they put up walls and didn't communicate what they were thinking and feeling. But, as the story progressed, each of them begin to deal with their own problems that were keeping their relationship from going to the next level.
I loved Ty's gut feelings and that no matter how much flack he got from some of the team he followed what his inner senses were telling him. The dedication of the PEAK team to one another and their search and rescue focus was incredible.
If you like suspense, I would definitely recommend this book. Warren's writing can be classed with Irene Hannon and Dee Henderson. I will be returning to the previous books to learn more about each of the characters.
Susan May Warren's latest book in her Montana Rescue Series, Storm Front, hits the ground running! But this time, not in Montana. Our beloved PEAK team is headed to Minnesota to help in the aftermath of a tornado recently blown through. It not only destroyed a town, but several people have gone missing, including rescue team leader Chet King. PEAK Team member Ty Remington, as we have learned from previous books, looks to Chet as a father figure in his life and will stop at nothing to help find him. As the team heads to Minnesota, an unexpected person awaits them there, Brette Arnold; the one girl who has held a special place in Ty's heart and prayers, yet got away. She has been facing her own personal storms in life but has decided to battle them alone. Ty, being the man he is, is determined to not give up and continues to fight for her. Will she allow both Ty and the Lord to walk through life with her, or will she run again and not look back?
Susan does a remarkable job (as always!) taking us on this journey with the PEAK Rescue Team. What, and whom, do we cling to when disaster strikes? Susan tackles both personal and physical storms, and the reality of fighting through them. She continues to be one of our most treasured authors, and really, the only drawback to reading one of her books is having to wait until the next one releases!
Susan May Warren definitely does not disappoint her readers. All of her books are filled with action and romance.
This will be a grip your seat read that you 2ont be able to put down. Packed with action. Brette is a cancer survivor turned storm chaser who encounters the one man she ran from so he wouldn't see her battle to survive.
A wild crazy ride with as many twists and turns as the twisters the characters are chasing.
Ty Remington has had a hard time forgiving himself for the helicopter crash that busted his knee and nearly killed the man he looks up to most, Chet King. Ty still works with PEAK rescue team, but can’t bring himself to get back in the helicopter and fly again. Brette Arnold disappeared from Ty’s life after only a few short days, but he can’t stop thinking about her. He felt they had an instant connection and still doesn’t understand what happened. When Brette found out she had cancer, she didn’t want to be dependent on Ty or anyone else so she ran to deal with it all on her own. Now, eighteen months later, she is finally healing but when she once again runs into Ty and she is afraid she won’t be strong enough to leave this time. Ty never knew of her diagnosis and when he sees her again he immediately knows something has been wrong and wishes he could have been there for her. As severe storms begin to ravish the area, Ty and Brette work together to help those around them and maybe help each other in the process.
The Montana Rescue series by Susan May Warren is fast becoming one of my favorite romantic suspense series. The characters are never boring and the situations they find themselves in, while maybe not realistic for everyone, are believable for where they are and what they do. These characters are tough, adventurous and really care for each other. We were introduced to Ty and Brette early in the series but haven’t seen Brette in a while and it was nice to see their story continue to unfold. I really enjoyed how Warren tackled the issue of cancer and how it affects so many, not just the person with the disease. It is a horrible illness that affects far too many and we got to see how difficult it can be to carry that burden alone and what happens when someone is there to help. God provides people to help carry us through the storms we may face in life, regardless of what the storm is, mental, physical nature, it doesn’t matter. The secondary story in Storm Front with Ben and Kacy continued from the first starting the series off. It is sad to think there is only one more book in this series. I don’t know that I am ready to see the stories of these characters wrap up. Readers need to be ready because Storm Front ends with a heck of a cliff-hanger making it oh so difficult to wait for the last in the series and find out what happened to these character. I highly recommend this book to fans of Warren’s writing and those that enjoy an action packed romantic suspense novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
