Storm Front was another wonderful addition to the Montana Rescue series. It's extremely fast-paced and hard to put down. There's many stressful, heart-pounding moments that had me completely captivated. It's one of those stories that completely sucked me in, made me feel like I was right there in the midst of the storm with these characters.
Ty, gosh... I completely fell for this guy. He's got a heart of gold and is willing to do anything to help a person in need. Sure he has his faults, but he's such an admirable and good man. He always seemed to be in the background in the first couple of books and I never took much notice of him – that is until book three, A Matter of Trust, when we got to know Ty just a little bit better. He stepped out of the shadows and we learned some more about him. And oh my gosh, how in the world did I ever ignore this lovely man? Brette went through some struggles and was scared to give her heart to Ty. There were times I wanted to shake some sense into her, tell her to stop running from Ty, to run TO him instead. I greatly enjoyed reading about their journey.
Like with all Susan May Warren books, Storm Front features a very strong spiritual thread woven seamlessly throughout. And this one is a very powerful one, indeed.
I was already looking forward to the next book in the series, Wait for Me, but after that cliffhanger of an epilogue it can't come out soon enough.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
Susan May Warren nails it again. She writes an adventurous tale fill with lots of action, faith and romance. This is a continuation of her Montana Rescue series and it doesn't disappoint. The reader is reunited with all the characters from the previous books. The author crafts a well written and engaging story that is fast paced and filled with many teachable moments.
I highlighted many parts of the book here a few:
"We can't bargain our way to God's love. Even if we wanted to, God would say, I already love you. It's done."
"We enter salvation through the door of destitute."
"You have to start seeing yourself through the eyes of your disaster and start seeing the woman you've become."
Ty was on the rescue team, couple maybe missing, gut instinct to checking it out before the storm. Group chasing the storm, a twister almost got them, while Brett’s wanted to get a picture, almost got them killed. No one understood, she had nothing else. Disaster brings Ty and Brett together, would they lose out again. A powerful story of search and rescue, the searching for love and meaning to one’s life. Don’t care for cliff hanging endings. Otherwise good plot, a lot of characters that draw you in. Given ARC by Net Galley and Revell for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Seriously?! A cliffhanger ending? No thanks. I don't like that at all. It's like those annoying trilogy movies where the second one just ends with an incomplete story. Sorry, but there's nothing more irritating and so I took a star off for that.
Now to the book. Lots of great characters. In fact, so many people in this book - but not too many to keep up with. If you've being reading this series from the beginning (and I surely hope you have, otherwise you're probably clueless to all the back stories) you're probably pretty familiar with the PEAK team by now. The addition of the Marshall family, the relatives of the missing, the Vortex team - even Ben's band, all pad out a pretty well played out plot. There's probably not another weather event that can intrigue yet scare you as a tornado, and there's plenty of that to go around. This book takes Ty on a mission to Minnesota, in his efforts to assist in the search for Chet King. Not surprisingly the woman he fell for 18 months earlier, Brette Arnold is in town and no one but God could have brought them back together. Brette ran from Ty all those months ago as she received devastating news, and has tried to stay hidden all this time.
This story covers a lot of the typical Susan May Warren collection of danger, search and rescue, struggles, health issues and leave you wondering if there will be a happy ending. There's a nice side story devoted to Ben & Kacey, which you might have thought was all tied up nicely in the first book. I actually appreciate where she went with this. It keeps these stories feeling genuine. Life isn't always easy and despite everything we do, it doesn't mean that bumps in the road don't come along.
It's different, but not my favourite from this author. The ending just went too far. We could have saved that last couple paragraphs for the first chapter of the next book, and ended with Jess getting in the truck. Or even better with Brette going in to surgery. That was a good ending.
Thanks to Netgalley & Revell for the eARC. This is my honest review.
Susan May Warren has the God given gift to craft a story about devastating tornadoes and heart breaking life events, all the while conveying a peace that only God can give throughout the storms of life. While reading about shattering storms and lives, I felt that peace shine through her words.
Susan’s characters are old friends having read all her Montana Rescue series plus most of her other novels. I feel as if I really know these people.
Ty, a member of the PEAK rescue team carries a load of guilt that he cannot put down. He does not feel really needed on the team, even though he has hunches which most often save lives. He does not realize that he is right where God wants him. He feels a connection to Brett and has been drawn to pray for her for the last year not knowing why.
Brett, whose life events have caused her to lose hope, soon finds Ty‘s unwavering and unconditional love a way to find peace and God. But she struggles with trusting and must learn to do it all over again each day. But by patiently modeling Christ’s love for us, Ty reaches Brett’s heart.
Kasey and Ben reappear as they overcome trust issues in an effort to become a family. And Chet King‘s wise counsel as Ty’s mentor affirms him and was right on the mark as usual.
Susan’s stories always present faith in God as central and Storm Front is no exception. It is a wonderful book. I highly recommend it!!
I absolutely love every book in this series! None have disappointed and I was so excited to finally get to read Ty and Brettes story! I love the depth to all the characters and you easily place yourself in the midst of every scene! Susan May Warren has a beautiful and unique writing style that draws you in and you will not be able to put the book down! What a gift!!! Ty and Brette are two “wounded” individuals and though they seem different at first they are also very alike! They both have a struggle to conquer in life and they have yet to discover they need each other to be strengthened to do so!
I didn't completely love the first two books in Susan May Warren's Montana Rescue series, but every release since has hooked me in to the turbulent word right from the start, and always leaves the impression that without a doubt, the Holy Spirit is leading her beautiful writing which will leave reader's everywhere feeling inspired and strengthened in their faith.
Right from Ty's first introduction as a secondary character in the earlier books, I've had a soft spot for him, and I had a feeling that once he finally got his own story, it would probably end up being my favorite, and I was definitely proven right. Ty has always been one of the most selfless characters on the PEAK Rescue team. He is always willing to go above and beyond to help anyone in need, usually even if it means sacrificing his own well being in the process. His hero complex is not accepted by everyone, none more so than Brette, a journalist that Ty fell head over heels for when she visited their region with Ella back in the third book. His attempt to rescue her from her situation didn't go over well, and it's been a long time since he's last seen her, although she's never been far from his mind.
Susan May Warren's stories are always character driven, and this series is a prime example of this. While the action unfolds throughout the entire story in a way that will keep you on the edge of your seat, the primary focus is on the character's, and the journey they all find themselves on. I especially enjoyed the way she made the title be both literal and figurative at the same time. Storm Front is the series' first focus on the team performing search and rescue operations during a tornado's aftermath, and obviously, the storms have left destruction and devastation everywhere they struck. However, Storm Front, also focuses on the fact that each character mentioned in the story is suffering from battling their own internal storms. For Ty, this comes in the form of feeling like he's never going to measure up, and he'll never actually deserve his spot on the rescue team. He tries to overcompensate for this fact by always pushing himself past his limits, no matter what the rest of his team thinks of him doing so. For Brette, her devastating situation has pulled her away from her faith, and has caused her refusal to allow herself to depend on anyone for help, including Ty who's quite possibly the greatest man she's ever known. Susan writes characters that are real and imperfect, and because of this, she represents to the reader that no couple is ever without their own problems, and so even though Ben and Kacey got their own story earlier in the series, they show up again in this one as they continue to work through issues, insecurities, and fears that keep them from joining together on the path God has planned out for them.
I've come to expect great things when I pick up a Susan May Warren novel, and Storm Front just might be my favorite yet. I love how she's able to weave the faith element so seamlessly into the story unfolding around the character's, and the way that the character's always come to realize that without Jesus in their life, they'll never be fully complete. There's nothing like reading a romance written by this amazing lady, and Ty and Brette are undoubtedly my favorite couple so far from the Montana Rescue series. Overall, Storm Front was a win win for me as I loved the characters, the way the action had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, the character's growth throughout the story, and the way that the transformative power of God's amazing grace is represented so truthfully. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the explosive ending happens that sets the next book up astonishingly, and now I can't wait for its release so see what journey Susan May Warren intends to take her beloved characters on next!
Thanks so much to Revell and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary review copy!
Another fabulous story in the Montana Rescue series by Susan May Warren.
It’s remarkable the author’s courage creating a heroine, Brette, that went through such a dramatic, life-altering process; and Susan May Warren doesn’t sugarcoat the effects of these changes.
With his unwavering faith, a tortured soul with some deep scars in this past, Ty Remington is a great hero: “kind and sweet and sacrificial”. His hunches and instincts to search (and rescue) in the right directions, this time in the aftermath of devastating tornadoes, are precious to the PEAK team, whose elements we meet again.
We also have the chance to watch couple Ben and Kacey work through their problems and have a glimpse of Shae and Ned. I’m sad that the next book, “Wait for Me”, Pete and Jess’s story, will be the conclusion to the series, I’m already missing these people and this parade of handsome, brave and kind men.
Wow, the newest book in the Montana Rescue series is a wild ride across the Midwest, as the PEAK team comes to the aide of a town ripped apart by a tornado. Lives are also torn up and restored by faith, prayer, compassion, and love in this latest installment of the series. Recommend reading these in order to get the full back story and better understand the drama behind the dialogue.
"God doesn’t promise to keep the storm away, but he says he’ll be with me through it."
This author is a champion of adventure romance dramas interjected with faith. The analogy of weathering the storms of life played out well in the relationships, plus a dramatic search and rescue. At center stage is Ty and Brette whose relationship began in the book A Matter of Trust. Brette's struggles are very real and so heart wrenching, making her difficulty trusting quite believable. Emotions run high, and there are many meaningful discussions about faith, as well as coping with traumatic life situations. Kacey and Ben have equal time in this book, with their relationship coming to a head; had me wondering how it would all end. A bit of a crossover to the Montana Fire series included makes me want to catch up on that side series. A cliffhanger ending sets the stage for the next exciting book too!
Recommend for readers who like action, drama and romance with faith. 4.5 stars
Another wonderful story by Ms. Warren in her Montana Rescue series. Each book gets better, as usual I was grabbed in the beginning and didn’t quit till I finished. What a wonderful story of hope and faith with enough suspense thrown in to keep you reading. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I look for three things in a book:
Characters I love and relate to
A plot that moves without unnecessary internal navel gazing
Multiple story threads that intersect
A satisfying ending
Why I love Susan May Warren's books:
Characters who emerge from the page as real and fully developed people
Engrossing and exciting action that moves the story forward
An overarching mystery or story that ties the others together
The main protagonists end with a deeper understanding of themselves, God, and they usually get the love of their life.
STORM FRONT has all that and more. Much more.
The story starts about nine months after TROUBLED WATERS (the most recent book in the series) and about eighteen months after A MATTER OF TRUST (when Ty and Brette met, in Gage and Ella's story).
Ty Remington blames himself for the helicopter accident that nearly killed his friend and mentor, Chet King, and ruined Ty's knee. He ignores the fact that he hiked out in a snowstorm with a broken knee and saved Chet's life. He's been unable to fly and feels like he's just a hanger-on and pizza fetcher for the PEAK rescue team.
For the past eighteen months, he can't get journalist Brette Arnold out of his mind. They only knew each other for two days, but they'd developed a bond. Or at least he thought they had. He can't shake the feeling that something's wrong and that she needs him.
Brette ran from Ty when she got a devastating medical diagnosis. She convinced herself he was better off without her. And she didn't need rescuing or anyone taking care of her. Except she did. She really did.
As STORM FRONT opens, Brette is on the mend and working with a crew of storm chasers. She and Ty both happen to be at the aftermath of a tornado in Minnesota. Brette's co-worker's younger brother is missing and so is Chet King, Ty's mentor.
As soon as he sees Brette, Ty knows he was right. Something was wrong, terribly wrong.
Brette and Ty work together to find the missing people after the tornado. In the process, they find the spark they shared is still warm and it takes only a kiss to fan it into a flame.
But they both have some deep issues they have to deal with before they can become the people God has designed them to be.
The secondary couple in this couple is Ben King and Kacey Fairing, who we met in the first book in this series, WILD MONTANA SKIES.
The next and final book in this series will be Pete and Jess's story.
Warning: STORM FRONT ends with a heckuva cliff hanger that leads into that final book.
Storm Front is a fantastic book and great addition to the Montana Rescue Series. Awesome plot and great characters. I couldn’t put this book down. I was on the edge of my seat in suspense. I highly recommend this book.
"Storm Front" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the fifth book in a series. I'd recommend reading the previous books in the series as there are ongoing story lines that were further developed in this book. For example, Ben and Kacey's relationship crumbled as their wedding was canceled yet again. Some of the misunderstandings that they originally struggled with are back. They must work through their insecurities and the differences in their priorities. I appreciate that the author didn't portray everything as going smoothly just because a couple loves each other enough to get married.
The suspense in the story mainly came from tornadoes touching down nearby and the dangers involved in the rescue efforts. The characters were likeable people who reacted realistically to events. The PEAK Rescue team traveled to where Ben was on tour and searched for several missing people, including Chet. Ty struggled with his role on the team while refusing to give up hope during the search efforts. Brette lost hope as cancer ravaged her body, and she no longer feels like she has a future.
The Christian theme was how Christians can find hope in seemingly hopeless or sad situations. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd highly recommend this enjoyable story.
Storm Front is a great addition to the five star Montana Rescue series. This is a trademark Susan May Warren story with well developed, likable and deep characters with real life problems in a high drama business. The PEAK team in Mercy Falls, Montana handles all kinds of rescue with their team of EMTs and rescue specialists who operate using a helicopter and also on the ground. Each individual team member has a special skill and place on the team. Ms. Warren is a master storyteller with the ability to pull you into the story where her research and knowledge is apparent with an intense plot and lots of adventure with a thread of faith and a message woven throughout.
Ty finally gets his story in Storm Front. Ty is such a sweet and dear character with a strong faith. But he feels responsible for a helicopter crash that severely injured his mentor, Chet King, several years ago. Ty didn't check the helicopter out well in the pre-flight check and hasn't gotten back in the cockpit since the crash. Chet is fully recovered and still cares for Ty. Chet flew a helicopter in Vietnam and taught Ty how to fly. Eighteen months ago, Ty met Brette Arnold, a roommate of Ella, his best friend Gage's girlfriend. Brette and Ty had a connection for forty eight hours but then she disappeared. Ty thinks about Brette every day and is led to pray for her. Brette has had some major events going on and is now working with a team of storm chasers. When a tornado hits Duck Lake, Minnesota, the hometown of the two of the team members, the group goes home to check on family.
Country music star Ben King, son of Chet, is playing a music festival in Duck Lake when the tornado hits. Chet is in the area helping Ben plan an elopement with Kacey, Ben's fiancee. Ben and his band are safe after the tornado but Chet is missing. When the PEAK team hears of Chet's disappearance, they fly the helicopter from Montana to Duck Lake to help find Chet and other townspeople.
The events that take place in the story are very emotional because there are several people missing, mostly teenagers on the middle and high school cross country running team. Ty and Brette connect again but there are issues that might prevent a renewing of their relationship. Ben and Kacey have loved each other for eighteen years but something has kept them from marrying even though they have a daughter. Will they be able to resolve whatever is going on? This is a series that really needs to be read in order and is such a highly entertaining one that I really recommend. It is like visiting old friends.
I was provided a complimentary advanced copy by Revell through NetGalley. The views stated are my honest feelings about the book.
SUSPENSEFUL!
Edge of your seat suspense from beginning to end! Ty Remington is still trying to find his place on the PEAK Rescue Team. He’s still not back to flying the chopper so he buries himself in trying to rescue every single person that possibly can. Brette Arnold is struggling to just live one day at a time. Once so vibrant, the events of the last year have nearly taken everything from her - including her very life. She buries herself in working with the Vortex Storm Chasers as a photographer. It’s the perfect gig for someone running from the storms in their own personal life. It would be just like God to work through insurmountable circumstances such as a devastating tornado in the middle of another state to bring their paths together. What happens next is a story similar to all the elements of a tornado - violent winds blowing & stirring everybody and everything as in a mixmaster and turning them and their emotions inside out; rain and hail beating down as these characters feel as though they are getting beaten down whenever they try to make a rescue whether it’s a physical rescue or a rescue of the heart; trees & other heavy debris blocking their escape as they feel trapped in their circumstances, life choices and situations beyond their control. Overall there is the beautiful truth of God’s protection and providence in and through ALL THINGS. I was provided an ARC of this book by the Publisher and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
Storm Front, Susan May Warren's latest in her Montana Rescue series, is the best one yet! Having read all the previous books in this set, I was anxiously waiting on this release. And I must say, each book is better than its predecessor. Featuring Ty and Brette's story, Warren packs it all in with her trademark combination of danger, suspense, romance, and a message of redemption.
I know that when I pick up a Susan May Warren book, I will be in for a treat. Her books are not ones to miss. The plots are always riveting, filled with flawed characters that are easy to relate to. Their journeys of redemption suck you in as you fall in love with the cast before you. Warren's skill in creating characters that stick with you and get under your skin is hallmark. You can count on her to deliver each and every time.
I highly recommend this entire series. You won't be disappointed!
I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.
Romance, clean; Christian faith elements
Ty and Brette's story, intermingled with Ben and Kacey's struggle to finally become a family was a beautiful read. All of the PEAK team coming together to help find some students and a woman missing after a tornado tears through a small town. Ty came with PEAK, and Brette with a tornado chasing team. Brette's team member has a brother who is one of the missing which brings her back to face Ty, her fears, feelings and both of their hopes.
SMW is a magnificent story teller. She knows how to craft suspense, drama, and hope making the reader care about the people in her novels. It feels like life, and her characters are genuine, honest, hurting, but caring, and oh, she knows how to craft a romance. Her characters feel like family, the learn and use their faith, but in a very personal way that make faith a natural part of their lives as they experience, pain, problems, worries, crisis, and of course, joy and happiness. This story is no exception. Great series!
There is a chapter to lead into the last book. Can't wait to read it. I am surely her biggest fan! That being said, she really has crafted a wonderful read!
I received a copy from from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review. This in no way influenced my opinions or thoughts on this novel. Well crafted suspense and romance at it's finest! Highly recommend to anyone who loves suspense, romance, and faith in their reading
Susan May Warren is one of my go-to writers when it comes to pleasure reading. With her Montana Rescue series, it is an unique idea featuring a rescue team from Montana who travels to save other members of the team. One of my favorite features is the dynamic team who appears over and over in all of the books. Including in her latest Storm Front. The book maybe Ty and Brette's love story, but the other members have come to the rescue during a tornado outbreak in Minnesota. A previous couple also takes center stage in showing their progression in their current relationship. While the plot twist and turned, I eagerly turned pages waiting to see what would happen. Would they find the missing people? Would Brette and Ty allow their walls to fall down and seek the love they knew they needed? The romance didn't feel cheap or sappy to me either. Warren does a good job at showing their realistic fears and allowing me to empathize with the characters. The only issue I had with the plot is the cliff-hanger at the end of the novel. Why does Warren do that to me? Of course, I'll return to the conclusion of the series, Wait for Me, but the ending made me grip my Kindle and wander why. Overall, I believe fans of Susan May Warren's writing will enjoy this novel and be wrapped up in all the tension and romance we have come to expect from Warren.
I received a complimentary copy of Storm Front by Susan May Warren from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
This is the fifth book in the Montana Rescue Series. It is helpful to read the previous books in the series so that you know all the characters and previous story lines.
The main story follows Ty and Brette, although, there are secondary storylines that follow characters from previous books. Ty and Brooke first meet in A Matter of Trust (Book3) and this story takes place over a year later. Ty is still struggling from a helicopter crash that could have killed him and his mentor, Chet King. Brette is struggling with her trust issues and her cancer, but is trying to run by teaming up with storm chasers and taking pictures of tornadoes. They both find themselves together in Minnesota after a tornado hits and Chet is missing, along with one of the chaser's brother. Will they find them in time? Will Ty believe in himself enough to continue the search? Will Brette lower the walls she has built to protect herself?
I have enjoyed this whole series and love that all the characters show up in each book. I can't wait for the next one!
Book 5 in the Montana Rescue Series is another exciting read from Susan May Warren. Many familiar faces of the PEAK Rescue team make an appearance, but this story focuses on Ty Remington and Brette Arnold. In the aftermath of devastating tornadoes, they must each learn how to navigate the physical and emotional storms of their own lives. You'll likely laugh, cry, and want to hang out with the entire team by the end of the book. As usual, Warren's characters come to life with their struggles and the humanity they convey. For such a large cast (the PEAK team), the characters are each uniquely crafted. No two are alike and their separate identities lend an even greater sense of reality to the series. It's hard to put this book down, but you also don't want it (or the series) to end.
