A fantastic read. Thoroughly enjoyed this and it is not something I would usually pick up. Will look for more from this author in future.
When Charlotte is left in charge of her best friend Harriet's daughter Alice she sees it as a real privilege. Harriet rarely lets Alice out of her sight. On the day in question she has little choice, as her presence at a book keeping course is required.
Charlotte, mother to three of her own children, is looking forward to having Alice for the day. She is a quiet and obedient child and is looking forward to the school fete where they are all headed. The fete is packed as these things usually are, and Charlotte is relieved for five minutes peace when the children all head for the jungle gym.
Her quiet time is short lived when the children return, without Alice.
Charlotte is devastated at the realisation her best friends daughter is missing, whilst in her care. How on earth is she going to break the news to Harriet? She must find Alice, and quickly. The police are quick to arrive, and quick to point the finger at Charlotte.
Was she distracted somehow? How did she lose another woman's child.
Charlotte could not feel any worse than she already does, but somehow the police make it seem even worse, treating Charlotte like a criminal.
I can't say too much more without giving anything away, but I will say that there are some surprises in this novel, and it may not take you exactly where you expect it too. For this reason, I really enjoyed it, though the subject matter is at times difficult it is worth persevering with.
Still a little unsure what my feelings are about this book.
I struggled with the characters initially and felt the book was a tad long.
Overall though I'm glad I persevered as there were a couple of unexpected twists.
I really enjoyed this book and would heartily recommend. Clever story, enjoyed the writing and was eager to find out what would happen next. Brian was such a creep but it was believable that he could act like that and get away with it. Alice & Hannah were very likeable as was Hannah's dad. I was sorry to get to the end of the book.
I literally could not put this book down. So well written. What would you do if your best friend lost your child? Would you hate them? Such a good book with great characters. The story was quite intense and I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happened. Loved it!
This is the story of most women's nightmare, that you look up from your phone and the child of a friend (whom you were supposed to be watching) has now disappeared. It then develops into a story about female friendship, controlling relationships and what is justifiable in protecting a child.
So, an interesting premise and it's quite well written, I just found the characters frustrating and the story plodding and confusing at times. I'm sure many will love it, just, not me.
An OK read.
Thanks to netgalley and Random House UK for the opportunity to preview in exchange for this honest review.
I am already a huge fan of Heidi Perks and this book did not disappoint. Right from the beginning I was hooked and absolutely did not see the twist coming. The writing style is perfect for me and I loved the storyline. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Once I started this book, I literally could not put this down!! The story starts off really quickly which I have found hard to come by these days as most books have a slow paced build up which can take time to get into - this book is faced paced from the first page! It has twists and turns you wont see coming and the story will stay with you for a long time. The book is well written and has some beautiful descriptions of the coastlines and Dorset. This book will not disappoint and should be on everyone's 'to be read' piles!!
Actual rating 3.5 stars.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story up until the point the author revealed what was actually going on, and unfortunately I wasn’t so keen after that. I honestly had thought the story was going in a different direction.
This is a story with plenty of twists throughout. Nothing is as it seems and the author has done a great job of keeping the reader guessing until she is ready to reveal all. Even then she isn’t finished with the twists though.
The main female characters are well written, but I ended up not liking Harriet very much by the end of it.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
I had previously never read anything by Heidi Perks before picking up this book. Whilst it was well written and her writing encapsulated the emotions throughout the story, I felt the whole thing was far fetched. I was disappointed in the twist. I disliked all the characters, which also didn't help as I felt no sympathy towards any of them.
The premise of the abducted child has been done to death and I was hopeful that this book was going to put an original spin on it. Unfortunately, it failed in this respect.
Three year Alice goes missing, hardly an original theme you might think and to some degree I would agree with you, but then Heidi Perks comes along and turns what could have been another “run of the mill” psychological thriller into a sinister yet compelling read. Imagine being asked to look after your best friends child and then you loose them, what would be worse loosing your own child or someone else’s? that’s pretty much the premise for Now You See Her. Friendships are tested, scrutinised And dissected, fingers of suspicion are pointed, making Now You See Her a suspense fuelled read

This is the first novel I have read by Heidi Perks and it was excellent. Really enjoyed this book loved the twist to the tale, enjoyed the writing style and found myself reading 'just one more page before going to do what I should be doing, highly recommended, will definatly be on the look out for this author's books againI
I loved this book. Such an engrossing thriller - I was drawn in from the start and could not put it down. I did not see the twist in the middle coming which I love in a thriller. Superb ending.
I really enjoyed the writing style and found myself reading 'just one more page'. Such twists and turns with secrets and lies revealed. Great character development. A story of friendships, deceit, manipulation and secrets.
Highly recommended - a brilliant thriller which I couldn't put down as it kept me guessing right up to the end.

This is the first time I have read anything by by this author and I found it to be very well written and thought out. The tension was there and some emotion, accusations were flying, friendships were strained and secrets are being kept. As I don't read many psychological stories, this was quite intriguing.
Charlotte has finally managed to persuade Harriet to let her look after her little girl and take her to the school fete with her children. Harriet has a course so agrees. The kids want to go on a jungle gym, the entrance is at the back, Charlotte is looking at her phone and then realises one of the children is missing, her friends child......
I enjoyed it as I don't read many books like this. Did the child just wander off or was she kidnapped?
Having being a mother myself this is my worst nightmare. Heidi really touched on my emotions and I got lost in it. I couldn't stop thinking about this book and kept reading wanting to know more. The twists and turns kept me on my toes. Whose team are you on???? I look forward to reading more of Heidis books. Thanks for the opportunity to read it.
It takes just a few seconds to lose sight of a child. What would you feel like if you were the friend watching over her?? This is the situ for Charlotte, who takes 4 year old Alice along wither her children to the local school fair. Never has her friend Harriet ever left her child with anyone before….
Charlotte goes from a care free normal mum to enemy number 1. As the story unfolds there are journalists swarming the place, friends that won’t let her near their children and she is questioned by police seemingly to within an inch of her life.
But all is not right in Harriet’s home life, and drip by drip we find out more as we uncover just what has led to this situation and why things have transpired the way they have…
With some beautifully engaging dialogue and highly reflective thought processes the voices of these characters is articulate and carefully crafted. There is good tension, you feel the characters exhaustion, and the frantic thoughts that run alongside this. There are endless questions and challenging people to face. You sway from sympathy, to empathy, to doubt, to judgement and back again as more and more of the story unfolds. It’s a case of only knowing what someone wants to share with you and so do ever really know another person?
The story is told moving from recent past to current situation, which supports the reveal. The ending did feel predictable but I still thoroughly enjoyed the journey getting there. It is swift and engaging to read throughout.
Now You See Her is the tale of a missing child - every parent knows the heart stopping moment when you lose sight of your child but in this case Harriet has left her 3 year old daughter, Alice, in the safe hands of her best friend, Charlotte while she attends a book keeping course. Charlotte takes Alice together with her own three children to the school fete but when Alice disappears every one's worst fears appear to be realised.
The story is told from two points of view and my sympathy with Charlotte grew as she is consistently blamed for Alice's disappearance because she was busy on her mobile phone instead of watching the children. But there are darker issues at play which involve domestic violence and a twist at the end which I found rather unbelievable. However, it didn't spoil my reading of the book and I am sure Now You See Her will appeal to many fans of psychological and domestic thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley and PenguinRandomHouse/Century for the opportunity to read and review the book.
Absolutely gripping, compulsive reading. I didn’t see the ending coming at all. Read in one sitting.
A well paced domestic thriller which definitely kept me on my toes throughout. As a parent I was gripped and wanted to know just what had happened to this little girl - what was going on in the background? Enough twists and turns to keep readers interested until the end.
I thought early on that this would be a book that held my attention and did it ever. Let’s just say there were enough surprises here that I never came close to working it all out for myself. I wavered between Team Harriet and Team Charlotte as events unfolded. It was nail-bitingly tense and I highly recommend it.
