I loved The Assistants and went into this book fully ready to be entertained. It's smart, charming, funny and it gave me a glimpse into a world I don't know much about.
A fun and engaging read about young lesbian culture in New York City! The characters are relatable and the dialogue is witty and fresh.
I love that this book is filling a much needed space for F/F romances that are lighthearted and not too dark/angsty. I thought the main characters had amazing chemistry and I wanted more of them! My main issue with the book and why I didn't give it a full 5 stars is because I did want a little more of a hook to grab me. It felt like I was just peeking into their world for a bit and then leaving them, vs really getting invested in the characters. Overall, really great book though. LOVE the cover and can't wait to read more from this author.
This f/f romance was a complete binge-read for me - I finished it in 2 sittings! It was steamy (lots and lots and lots of sex talk and discussions and thoughts and such ~ probably a 4 on my 5~flame scale) and while many romances are all about "other stuff" and the romance plays a major part, this book is ALL ABOUT THE ROMANCE AND THE SEXUALITY. And that's not a bad thing ~ the story is about Katie discovering her sexual attraction to Camille, a woman, after being attracted to men in the past. I won't try to analyze the f/f relationship because it's not my world, but on a romance factor, it was a fast read that definitely opened my eyes!
I was totally charmed from the first page of When Katie Met Cassidy by Camille Perri and utterly hooked by the end of the first chapter. Perri's lively and funny voice brings a fresh perspective to that familiar and beloved story of a single girl finding love in the big city
Katie is on her own after her fiancé, John Michael, dumps her for her best friend, but she is crushing it at work negotiating a big contract — which is where she meets Cassidy, the opposing counsel. Things might have stayed strictly professional if not for a chance encounter on the street that leads to a night of drinking at the coolest lesbian bar in Greenwich Village. First, Katie and Cassidy become friends. And then Katie starts to develop feelings, which Cassidy is totally into helping her explore. This is a story of self-discovery, particularly on Katie's part, as she has previously identified as straight and comes from a pretty conservative family. But it's also a story that doesn't focus on labels — it's just a sweet love story about two people who find each other and don't miss the opportunity to turn a chance encounter into a happily ever after.
Ambitious New York lawyer Katie is thrown into a tailspin when her fiance Paul leaves her for her best friend. Then she meets confident, sexually experienced, masc-of-center lawyer Cassidy, who makes her reconsider what it means to seek pleasure and ask for what she wants.
What a fun read! I love the variety of lesbian and queer identities represented in this book, and I totally wish I could go to the lesbian bar at the heart of the book, the Met. Katie can be a bit annoying as a protagonist, but Cassidy is a wonderfully charming love interest. Butch women are way too rarely represented in romance novels. More books like this, please!
If you’re after a light, readable, sexy rom-com, this is for you. It’s a tasteful level of steamy, and it is always a relief to see a love story that strikes the right balance and doesn’t descend into Fifty Shades of Grey territory!
We first meet Katie as a newly-single powerhouse young lawyer, heading into a stressful work meeting with opposing counsel while still a bit of a hot mess from her recently ended engagement. After eyeing off Cassidy in the building lobby, the two end up in the same meeting on opposite sides of the negotiation table.
I loved following their relationship, Katie’s own self-discoverance, and think the author deftly evokes some of the social issues and stereotypes that same sex couples face. It’s also refreshing to read characters in this genre who are given depth in their professional life - both Katie and Cassidy are workaholic successful lawyers. Their struggle to balance a demanding job with a social and romantic life were both relatable and endearing.
I was surprised by how quickly I tore through this - I just could not put it down and wanted to see where Katie and Cassidy’s story went! I’d highly recommend this, particularly if you don’t read a lot in the romance genre as it’s such a good introduction.
Thanks to NetGalley and Putnam Books for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A straightforward romance novel where the interested parties both happen to be women. Though the story and characters are a bit milquetoast for my taste, it's nice to see f/f romance getting some support from the bigger imprints for once.
If you are a fan of the whole RomCom thing, than this will probably be up your alley.
I loved The Assistants so I was excited to get my hands on When Katie Met Cassidy, but unfortunately this book fell a little flat for me. The story felt rushed and I couldn't understand why Cassidy would fall for Katie so quickly when she seemed so meh. Yes, she's beautiful and smart, but nothing seemed to set her apart from all the other girls that Cassidy had dated. There was a huge lack of character development that explained any of their feelings beyond "she's hot".
I think Katie's struggle to come to terms with her sexuality is worth reading about and we need more stories like this, but I still felt that by the end she hadn't figured out who she was - which is ok but doesn't necessarily make for a compelling ending. There need to be more books focused on same-sex romances, but I don't think this one will sweep many people off their feet. It feels more like the starting idea of a book rather than the finished product.
This sounded like it would be fun/cute chick lit (one of my favorite genres), but it wasn't well written. Even popular genres deserve good writing, plotting, character, etc., and I was disappointed. That said, books are very subjective and another reader might enjoy.
My feelings for this book are, complicated. I’m not sure where to begin.
Katie has just gone through a breakup, and she has a new job at a law firm. She meets Cassidy, who is higher up in the company and kind of an office romance begins.
Katie thinks she’s straight, but she doesn’t later say she’s bisexual. It’s never defiant in whether she’s bi or a lesbian actually, which I didn’t like. She also said weird things when it came to butch lesbians, saying that she expected them to look threatening, and when she did see them she said they looked like boys. She also said the lesbians that were feminine ‘looked like women’. Another thing i didn’t like was that when Katie saw some not so great comments about Cassidy in a bars bathroom, regarding her sex life, Katie thought less of her for it. And in a scene she asked Cassidy when she came out, but her exact words were ‘were you straight before college’. This was such a weird question, and I don’t get why it was worded that way.
Katie was also just really flat. She didn’t leave much of an impression, and I really didn’t like how judgemental she tended to be.
Cassidy was an okay character. I don’t have much to say about her, but I liked her better than I liked Katie.
It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t my favourite either.
loved it! enjoyable, quick read.. fully rounded characters and a compelling story. I wanted to keep reading; wish it didn't end.
There are so few well-written romantic comedies starring two women falling in love that I was enamored by this one, and I read it in one dazzling sitting. I enjoyed the dual perspective of the characters and the magnetism, even though I found the story pretty predictable. I kept waiting for it to pop out in some way, or surprise me, and it never really did. On one hand, I felt like it pandered to a straight audience with some basics on gender presentation, sexuality, and Katie's whole subplot of discovering her queer side. On the other hand, it's so darn nice to see a major publisher put out a charming f/f romance novel (although I wished that the romance didn't fade to black quite so much) that I can't complain tooooo much. More like this, please! It might not be perfect but I know I'll be purchasing it for my collections and sharing with some queer ladies who need to see themselves in mainstream books!
Really fun, sweet, updated romcom. Will definitely keep in mind for future roundups, especially end-of-year gift guide.
When overachiever good girl Katie meets fellow overachiever lawyer Cassidy her world is rocked. Katie has always done what her family and society expects but Cassidy has fought against conventions to be true to herself. Katie is drawn to Cassidy and even though it scares her she begins to enter her world. Katie finds herself reexamining her life and what she wants. A story of strong independent women finding themselves and love.
