A billionaire, a dying request, a proposal, an engagement, and a slow burn romance.

After the death of her father Lily Harris will discover secrets that threaten her future. What will become of her, her estate, and her education? When her father's business partner proposes an option, will she accept?

Jake Tolliver has had eyes for Lily as long as he can remember, it's why he was in business with her father. All he wants is to keep Lily out of the public gossip, take care of her, and be with her.

Unfortunately Lily's constant accusations of Jake's infidelity become a bit droning and the game of is he or isn't he a bit longer than I'd like. When will Jake admit his feelings? How long will he make Lily suffer? Will they survive without admitting how they really feel before the holidays approach?

This is a slow burn, age gap romance that has nice chemistry between the two, a few teasing scenes and one intimate scene.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is an odd book to me. Jake has been enraptured by Lily for several years. Her dad does in disgrace and penniless. So he steps in to take over. Lily wants love and has a love/hate relationship with Jake. For me, the entire concept was odd, and no chemistry between them for me. So this was just ok. 3 stars

Lily has led a sheltered life by her father. When he dies, she feels lost. An older man, her father's partner, takes her in and wants to take care of her. Lily is ready to be independent, despite not sure how to. Jake is a jerk. He never takes Lily's feelings into account and he never talks to her. This book would have been so much better if Jake had shared SOME of what was going on to decrease Lily's anxiety and anger. I was confused why Lily decided to marry Jake as he hadn't changed any...except she was afraid he'd been in an accident...NOT a reason to agree to marry someone! The ending didn't feel real due to Jake not really showing he loved Lily and knowing Lily would be disappointed in her marriage to a man who never talks about his feelings or hers!

This was an interesting read.  There was this cat and mouse game going on between these two characters.  Lily and Jake were total opposites but they complimented each other but Jake was going to have wait some time before Lily came to her senses and realized that she was in love with Jake.  He made a promise to her father and he intended to keep it.  Lily had been sheltered all of her life and she is ready to spread her wings but in order to do that she is going to have to work in her father's business.  She just did a deal with the devil and he intends to win.  But the more time that they spend together the more she is attracted to him and the more that Jake's friend get into his head.  Jake is going to have to take things slow but in the end things will work out.  Lily is going to have to decide what she wants to do and if she has feelings for Jake because no one is promised tomorrow.

I totally recommend this read!!

low read about find oneself after grief. Lily is grieving and is not interested in a relationship with Jake. Jake have always have feelings for Lily and is determined to change her mind. As they spend time together Lily discovers there’s more to Jake and learns to trust. Good and sweet read.

It was an okay read. It had so much potential but seems to be lacking especially with the heroine. She was sheltered her whole life and you can tell my the way she acts. Jake for the most part was a well-written character. Just wish Lily would've been a bit stronger in character. Solid writing otherwise.

Jake had been attracted to Lily the first time he seen her but the more he cared about her, the more she avoided him. Will wanted Jake to marry Lily yet two years ago when he requested Will’s blessing to go after Lily Will had said no. But Will was dying now and wanted to make sure Lily was take care of and she wouldn’t be hurt or used. Will and Jack had been partners for four years now and Jack had learned a lot from Will. it had given Jake a passion and skill set for architecture that he had always hoped for. Tollier-Harris was renowned for their ability to rehabilitate dilapidated buildings; to turn schools into hotels, churches into restaurants, the tunnels beneath Portland into a nightclub. Lily was guarded with everyone but more so Jake. Jake had been the one navigating the financial black hole hre father had left while Lily concentrated on her dad. Lily was determined not to be indebted to Jake. Lily couldn’t defy Jake, the powerful and generous, at least not under the watchful eye of the media, Lily knew she should be grateful for all he had done but she didn’t want to thank him and open a door she may run through. Jake paid all Will’s debt and bought the house and if Lily will marry him she will stay in the home she loves. He pointed out to her she wasn’t prepared to get a job that would really support her. She shot everything he said back at him like a weapon. Lily realized she was leery of Jake because of his ability to scatter her emotions at will.
I really liked this book but it did drag for me at times. It was a quick easy book to read, I like Lily and Jake together a lot, But I thought Lily’s jealousy was a little overplayed so it got to be annoying to me. I thought Jake was a great hero and understood why he was closed off like he was.I know Lily was protected but she threw too many tantrums over jealousy. I liked the plot of this book.I liked the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

The reason I am giving such a low rating to the book is the heroine which was annoying from the first page till the last. I cannot believe that something grand had to happen for her to realize that Jake wasn't sleeping with every woman he was talking to or had a thing for her. Her jealousy was cute at first, but it got very tiring. She kept doubting him and I was getting more and more annoyed because all that jealousy seemed to be the only reason their relationship wasn't working out. A terrible heroine can ruin a book, like how it happened with this book and myself. I liked how the plot was unraveling and I understood why Lily was against marrying Jake, but I couldn't give a higher rating to the book. The hero was pushy, but I liked him. He was good and he never gave me (and the heroine) a reason to doubt him when it came to other women. The book is free of triggers or things that people dislike like other man/woman scenes. All the other woman drama is in Lily's head.

Love this author. And this book is just as good as the rest.
Lily and Jake are a couple destined to be together but trust issues and jealousy are always in the way. Trust to let each other knowing the truth causes them much unneccessary heartache but eventually proves to be just the catalyst to push them together.

This story had great potential but I found the female lead a little tiresome. I realize she was the over protected and sheltered daughter of a powerful man. Her naivety about her situation was still annoying. Pride is good to a certain point. She was wary of Jake. She didn't trust her feelings about him. Jake has wanted Lily since he met her. He is a alpha male that gets what he wants. At times he came off a little to domineering with Lily and she did not react well to that. He had her best interest at heart and was sincere in his pursuit. He didn't sugar coat anything and was upfront about things. His feeling for her ran deep and even he didn't know the extent. It was a good read for a rainy afternoon.

Losing her father was hard enough, but for Lily Harris resisting her father's business partner, Jake Tolliver, may prove even harder especially since her father asked him to take care of her. However, Lily isn't about to give into him, even though he holds all the cards. Yet, Lily isn't afraid to make a deal with the devil. Will Jake be able to win Lily over, or will Lily fight Jake every step of the way because she doesn't want to be another one of his conquests?

I have loved this series from the very first book, and I've got to say that Jake and Lily are one of the best couples of the series, as Jake is always used to getting what he wants, but Lily doesn't make things easy for him. Really, she's a feisty heroine that grew up sheltered and I liked how determined she was to make her own way instead of taking handouts from a man that promised her father she'd be taken care of. Will Jake be able to handle the heroine's demands, especially when he has some of his own? Will the heroine get what she wants?

As for the dialogue, it was entertaining due to the main characters back stories and everything these two go through on their journey to happy ever after including the heroine's need to prove herself because she won't marry someone for any reason but love; the things the hero does to get the heroine riled up that make her push back; and what happens towards the end that makes the heroine question everything. Moreover, the heroine is resilient and I could understand why she's so resistant to the promise Jake made her father. I also liked how feisty the heroine was and her determination to prove she can take care for herself. While the hero, he's confident, is used to getting what he wants, and I liked how determined he was to win the heroine over, even though it's not easy because he does things he knows will annoy her or make her jealous. Will the things he does make the heroine even more resistant?

Overall, Ms. Burke has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense and only kept getting better the more the heroine resisted the hero; the romance was wonderful and had me liking this couple together once the heroine gave in; and the ending had me enjoying what happens because it makes the heroine face her feelings for the hero. No way can she let him get away without telling him how she really feels. I would recommend The Billionaire's Reluctant Fiancèe by Jenna Bayley-Burke, if you enjoy books by authors Victoria Davies, Miranda Liasson, Cathryn Fox and Kira Archer.

This is one of those stories where both main characters have been damaged by their past, making them reluctant to see and acknowledge what’s right in front of them. Lily is the highly protected, naive daughter who billionaire Jake Tolliver has been in love with for years. However, he’s never told her, had very little to say to her and feels unworthy because of his past. Whilst terminally ill, Lily’s father asked Jake to protect her by marrying her. Jake proves to be an extremely patient man - well, either that or just too reticent to open up and admit just why he wishes to marry her. As the debts and problems her father has left to be resolved, there are some difficult decisions to be made by both Lily and Jake!

One thing you can say about this author is that she writes characters which you end up wishing you could talk some sense into! This is a dramatic story of learning to open up and trust, realising the strengths and abilities of others and of yourself. I liked how Jake was determined to give Lily the time and opportunities she needed to mature and develop herself. However, also didn’t like how he didn’t help correct her misconceptions about his relationships with others and his tendency to jerk her around. Nor did I appreciate her inability to trust based on her personal experiences of his behaviour, she really should have been counting her blessings much of the time! I did love Jake’s Grandma - what a brilliant old lady, a real treasure! Get ready for angst, turmoil and drama in this contemporary romance!

I requested and received a copy of this novel. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words.
Lily has been wary of her father’s partner ever since she first met him but is thrown into his company after her father dies. In the typically high handed manner of an alpha male, Jake announces that they will be married without assuring her of his feelings. This type of trope is one of my least favourite but I did enjoy the story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review. Everything that follows is my opinion and mine alone.

I have to say, I was hoping for a more comedic or romantic read. Jake, our male lead, is... well, I don't know how to explain it in one sentence. He says he cares about Lily and has even tried to get her hand in marriage via her father once, but according to Lily, they don't really know each other. This wouldn't be a big deal except...

The way he tells Lily that she would be better as his wife and mother of his children. This woman has some potential for drive, but she seems to falter just slightly.

I didn't really care for this book, but I know there are others who would. Not a favorite when romance is in question.

Jake wanted Lily since he first saw her, so when her dad and his business partner asks Jake to marry her at his death bed, it seems perfect. But Lily has always been wary of Jake, and convincing her to marry him is not going to be easy.
The billionaires reluctant fiancée is a well written read. Jake wanting to do anything and everything to keep Lily happy and safe was very sweet and showed his feelings for her. Lily and her jealous when he has not really given her a reason to be jealous was a little tiresome for me. So I have mixed feelings about this book. It was part sweet and part irritating for me :).

This was an ok read for me. I really enjoyed the writing style of the author and the pace of the story. I also really liked Jake but Lily truly frustrated me. That perhaps is why I never felt the connection between the two of them. I think this is more my personal feelings rather than the author's story.

When Lily's father passes away it's Jake that is there to help her through the darkness. Both emotionally and financially. When Jake expresses a desire to marry Lily she refuses to consider it since she's convinced he's a womanizer. She loves him but her jealousy keeps her from him. Can he convince her to trust him?
