Overall reaction to the book? Whether it’s a full length novel or a novella like this one, Sabrina Jeffries doesn’t disappoint. The Risk of Rogues has all the pluck and fun of the whole series but in a bite sized serving.

Hartley and Anne’s chemistry was a mix between affection, passion, and exasperation because both of them were pretty dang stubborn and wanted a relationship on their own terms. Silly characters. I enjoyed their push/pull relationship and the fact that Anne was someone who didn’t quite fit in with the fashionable crowd. She and Hart made a good couple and the second chance romance was just the thing to round out the Sinful Suitors series and it was nice to see many of the couples from previous books, they’re all connected to each other in some way that it seems like it was more of a family saga.

I received an advance copy of this book for review. I found the story of Hart and Anne to be very entertaining, from their accidental reunion in the first few pages and through their stormy courtship. Great reading, highly recommended!

I am a fan of Ms. Jeffries and have enjoyed numerous books by her. While I did like "The Risk of Rogues," it was far too short to fully get the flavor of the hero and heroine. I liked Captain Lord Hartley Corry from the start, but Lady Anne, not so much. I can certainly understand her reluctance to step back into anything romantic with Hart, but when she found out what her father had done when they were 16, I thought it would soften her character a bit. While Hart did everything in his power to prove his love for Anne, she didn't do much except let him kiss her. I wanted to feel her childhood heartbreak and then her absolute joy of being reunited with Hart and that didn't come across to me at all.

This short novella is a classic Sabrina Jeffries. Hart and Anne have had their difficulties, being forbidden to marry by both their families when they were much younger. But both have grown into adulthood, and they treat each other like adults, wary, but still willing to talk about their hopes and dreams and to fully address their past. Mix that with a little bit of heated action, and you have a fast and easy summer read!

I loved the book, the characters were beautiful and well designed. The pacing was off but I really enjoyed taking this journey with these characters!

The Risk of Rogues was a nice bow on the end of the Sinful Suitors series. Captain Lord Hartley Corry's story is one that I have been hoping for and it is absolutely delightful. A second chance for lovers who had been ready to marry in their youth, but circumstances beyond their control intervened. Time has certainly not dampened their true feelings even as they navigate the rocky terrain of their shared past and fractured trust.

I adored this story because Lady Anne and Hart had such a wonderful chemistry and belonged together, come hell or high water. Destiny is a funny thing, it can break you apart in the blink of an eye, then drop you in the middle of house party years later to repair all the breaks.

Enjoy this second chance romance!!!!

It was ok, not really long enough for me to get over how much I disliked Anne’s insecurity because it’s really the only thing in the book

3.5 stars--THE RISK OF ROGUES is instalment 5.5 (and final?) in Sabrina Jeffries SINFUL SUITORS historical romance series - a spin off from Jeffries’ ‘The Duke’s Men’ series. This is Lady Anne Barkley and Captain Lord Hartley ‘Hart’ Corry’s story line. THE RISK OF ROGUES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Anne and Hart) THE RISK OF ROGUES is a second chance romance between Lady Anne Barkley and Captain Lord Hartley ‘Hart’ Corry. Eleven years earlier Hart asked a then sixteen-year old Anne to be his wife but without her father’s permission Hart disappeared without a trace. Fast forward to present day wherein a much more mature Anne but secretive Hart must face the truth about what happened years before-a truth that is much different than the stories they know.

Captain Lord Hartley Corry is a man of secrets whose current position with Baron Fulkham keeps our hero in the shadows as a spymaster for the government. Loyal to a fault, it is these secrets that keep Anne at a distance when Hart offers up his heart, once again. Lady Anne considers herself an oddity, and hides behind her flamboyant hats that are the talk of the ton. Never married, Lady Anne pines for what was, and what will never be, again.

THE RISK OF ROGUES is a very quick read; a fast paced, second chance story line with a feisty and stubborn heroine, and passionate hero. The back and forth rhetoric between our leading couple is both comedic and sad, as Anne refuses to accept the truth that is shrouded in secrets. The premise is engaging; the romance is intimate and sweet; the characters are familiar and charming.

The Risk of Rogues is a novella in the Sinful Suitors series by Sabrina Jeffries. It can easily be read as a standalone story.

Captain Lord Hartley Corry (Hart) was very much in love with his sweetheart, Anne, several years ago. Her father didn’t want them to marry, so they talked about eloping together. Before they had a chance to do just that, Hart joined the army and went to India without even saying goodbye to Anne.

In the time that he was away, Hart wrote to Anne many times but she never answered his letters. He still loved her, was very hurt by her but guessed that she must have moved on and had married somebody else. Although he never stopped loving her, he didn’t look too hard for her when he returned to England, so convinced was he that she had married another.

Hart was invited to a house party his brother was throwing, and it was to his complete shock that he saw Anne there too. He had been correct, she had remarried, and she has gone from being just a merchant’s daughter to a Lady, a widowed one at that.

When Anne and Hart see each other again sparks fly. They are both hurting after what they see as a betrayal from each other. Anne thinks he left and didn’t care enough about her to even keep in touch. Hart thinks she didn’t care enough about him to answer his letters, and then, of course, she married another man! Despite the feelings of hurt, the instant they set eyes on each other the lust was still there. Dare I say love too, although each hated to admit it to themselves.

Can our couple have a second chance at love, will they get the other to understand what happened in the past, and will they be able to trust each other enough again to give in to their feelings for each other?

Although this was a short story which easily could have been expanded on, there was enough time to make their reunion believable. I thoroughly enjoyed reading as their story unfolded and they realised that neither of them had betrayed the other. I also loved reading about Anne’s love of hats and the creations she came up with! That’s something novel that I haven’t come across before in the many historical romances that I have read! All in all, this was a fun, sexy, romance that I fully enjoyed and recommend.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This is a great book from Sabrina Jeffries. If you love this series you should read this book. The only thing about this book that was disappointing was that it was a novella. I wish we had more time to develop this love story and time for to see these two characters fall in love. But it is a must read if you love Sabrina Jeffries! :)

An amusing second-chance novella, The Risk of Rogues is a quick read. For all that it’s short, we learn plenty about Anne and Hart, their past and present “struggles” to be together. Things are resolved at a rapid rate, but there’s really no point in stretching the story unnecessarily. I like that they talk. I like that they take a good long look into themselves to figure out their feelings and acknowledge their mistakes.

I like Anne’s character- a full-figured lady who loves hats. That’s so me. I also like Hart. He realizes his feelings for Anne right away and is dogged in his pursuit. I also really like the re-courtship.

Overall, I spent an enjoyable time reading this novella and would like to thank Pocket Star for providing me with an advance copy for review via NetGalley.

Sabrina Jeffries is a well-known author of Historical Fiction. Her books usually are in a series where characters repeat and you get to know them. She gives us strong female characters, imperfect male heroes, humor, intriguing plots and delicious hot romances. These are the reasons why I enjoy all of her books!!

The Risk of Rogues is the final book of the Sinful Suitors series. It is a short ebook —- a departure from full-length paperbacks. We have met Hart —- Captain Lord Hartley Corry —- in previous books. In this story, we meet Anne. She and Hart wanted to marry years ago, but both fathers prevented it. His father cut off money and he can’t support them. Unknown to Anne, Hart is dispatched to India and his letters are kept from her. Unknown to Hart, Anne’s father inherits a title and their new home is not revealed to their neighbors. Both Anne and Hart still love each other.

They meet at Hart’s brother’s house party. They discover that their fathers kept them apart. Hart wants a re-courtship. Anne doesn’t trust he won’t break her heart again. Anne badgers him about his job prospects and how he would support them. Hart has become a Spymaster, but he doesn’t trust Anne to tell her —-yet!

I received a copy of this ebook from Netgalley. Thanks! I enjoyed reading it and look forward to Sabrina Jeffries next series (soon, I hope!)

Book #5.5 in the series Sinful Suitors, The Risk of Rogues can be read without knowledge of the previous books.

Lady Anne gets the shock of her life when her former fiancé,Captain Lord Hartley Corry, returns from India and wants to go on with their arrangement. How dare he? After all, he left for India many years ago, right after Anne's father had forbidden the marriage without even fighting for her!
To make matters worse, Hartley behaves in an arrogant manner and seems too secretive. How can Anne trust him again?
As it is a novella, things happen very fast. However, in a longer story, perhaps I'd have liked Hartley better - like Lady Anne, I had a hard time trying to trust him. Anyway, I could enjoy Ms. Jeffries's prose again.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Anne was once head over heels for Captain Lord Hartley Corry. She would have went to the ends of the earth to be with him. Unfortunately, he must not have felt the same way about her as he left her behind to join the army. She hasn't heard from him since.

Hart and Anne were young when they feel in love. Her father refused him and Hart being a second son had no way to support a wife. That is how he found himself joining the army and becoming a spy. When Hart returns home and sees Anne again, he is not about to let the past stand in their way. He just hopes Anne will give him another chance.

I give author Sabrina Jeffries novella, THE RISK OF ROGUES, a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I have to admit that I think it would have been better as a full length novel so that readers could get a little more depth into both characters. Still, THE RISK OF ROGUES, was an enjoyable read. The characters and storyline were engaging. I was so glad that Anne and Hart got their second chance at love and seized it. I am looking forward to many more wonderful reads by Ms. Jeffries.

The Risk of Rogues (The Sinful Suitors, #5.5)
by Sabrina Jeffries
A second chance only comes once in a lifetime. Anne and Hart were in love before, but life, families, and fear got in the way. When Hart approached Anne's father for her hand it all crumbled. They both were forced by their parents to go their separate ways, unfortunately they allowed this to happen. Now a decade latter, they are in the same house for the weekend celebration. Will they have a second chance at the love that overwhelms them, or will it all crumble again. This is a lighthearted look at love and courtship in 18th century England. Lords and Ladies have so much to live up to.

I absolutely adore the Sinful Suitors series, so I was excited to read this installment of same. I haven't read book 5 yet, but that in no way ruined my enjoyment of this one. This was a second chance romance for Hart and Anne. Many years ago they were young and in love, and planned to marry. However, both were thwarted by their fathers. Now they have run into each other again, and Hart knows he still wants Anne. Anne, though, is still hurt and afraid of losing her heart again. Hart convinces Anne to try a "re-courtship".

I really liked the characters of Hart and Anne, and greatly enjoyed watching them get to know each other all over again and to get past their prior heartbreaks. My only complaint was the length of this tale. It was more short story than novella. I would have loved a more in-depth book since Anne and Hart were so interesting. Still, it was a fun story and a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Eleven years ago, when Anne Barkley was just sixteen, she and Lord Hartley Corry fell in love and planned to marry. Anne's father didn't approve the match, so the couple planned to elope. Instead of a runaway marriage, Hart traveled to India, leaving Anne without a word. Over the years, Anne became Lady Anne, as her father unexpectedly inherited a title, and she became more straightlaced and concerned with propriety, unlike the vibrant girl Hartley fell in love with. Meanwhile, Hartley worked as a spy, and is now being groomed as a spymaster. He made some half hearted attempts at locating Anne, but never could find her. Besides, he's sure that by now she's undoubtedly married with several children.

This couple unexpectedly encounters each other at a social gathering. Hart is shocked, yet very happy to find Anne still single, while Anne only wants to get away from him. Old feelings never died between Anne and Hart, and he would like nothing better than to make a fresh start and court her, while she is initially determined not to be hurt again. They have to address their past, what really caused them to part, and whether they have a future.

I enjoyed watching the ice in Anne start to thaw, as Hart began to woo her in earnest. Although he could have done more to find Anne sooner, (he is a spy, after all) Hart is determined to not let this chance for reconciliation get away. THE RISK OF ROGUES is a short, but enjoyable and passionate second chance at love novella which satisfactorily concludes THE SINFUL SUITORS series.

Honestly, I didn't know this was a novella until I finished it all too quickly. This story definitely could have been further developed into a full-blown novel. Due to its format, I was disappointed in the characters' thought processes and weak will.

Despite that, it was a decent read. I definitely recommend Jeffries full-length novels.

Lady Anne and Hartley Corry were once in love and wanted to marry, her father said no. Now eleven years they meet unexpectedly at a house party. Hart had been looking everywhere for Anne, he knew she was the only woman for him. Lady Anne is skeptical of Hart’s motives and he has to prove himself worthy of her affections before she give in to him. Anne feels he never fought for her hand or eloped with her as he promised so it’s hard to believe he really ever loved her. I loved this second chance at love novella it’s a fast paced book. Can Hart win over his lady love and will she be willing to marry him when she finds out everything there is to know of the new Hartley and his career choice. The author does an excellent job of bringing these two together to let nature take its course and their love will win the day if only they will reach out a grab their HEA!!!. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

This is a very short, fast read that I enjoyed. Lord Hartley is an undercover spy for the English government. He's at the age where he should be settled down and married, but he can't have the one woman he loved in the past. He's sure that by now she's married with a bunch of children. Imagine his surprise to find out that Anne is now a Lady, and not married. He runs into her at a party for society elites. She's not married, and he's very interested in why. He wants to try and renew their love affair, but Lady Anne doesn't trust him. He left her many years ago, and has never bothered to look her up again. Can he convince her to forgive him and give him another chance? You'll have to check out the book to find out!
