This short story is about a love that did not come full circle because Anne’s father thought her too young to marry at age 16 and Hart’s father threatened to cut off his allowance if he married Anne. After 11 years Hart reconnects with Anne and realizes their old romance never died. Hart declares he will recourt her in an attempt to get her to accept his marriage proposal. This is a quick read and very delightful. I would highly recommend this book. I received a copy of this book thru Netgalley.

This novella is exactly the right length for the story - not too short or overly drawn out. Hart and Anne had been parted 11 years earlier due to parental disapproval and machinations. Hart didn't know what had happened to Anne and Anne thought Hart deserted her. They meet again at a party and Hart must prove himself to win Anne back. There is sensual content that fits the story's pace, instead of being too much too soon and an enjoyable courtship. It's obvious where this is going, of course, but Jeffries still makes it seem fresh.

An utterly charming and heartwarming story of star crossed lovers that were separated from each other due to family and circumstances. When Hart meets Anne after a decade, he doesn’t expect to feel the same emotional attachment and attraction to her that he did when they were younger and their parents didn’t give them permission to marry. But after all these years, both of them need to learn to trust each other and realize that the love that they had felt for each other has only grown and is forever. I really enjoyed this short novella from the Sinful Suitors series. Although, it is part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone.

I liked this book pretty well. It is a novella, and I think you can tell if a novella is good if you wish it was a full length novel. I felt that way about this one. I liked the main characters interactions, and I like that it was relatively low stakes.

I liked this book but unfortunately that is where my opinion ends really. I felt like the romance between the two main characters came from almost nowhere. I wanted them to have had a bit more of a dramatic history but i felt the emotion between them was a bit flat. Great writing but i dont think i was as invested in these two as I have been for other Sabrina Jeffries characters. Still a good read and I'd recommend it to fans of historical romance but for me it was a bit ... Slow.

With no introductory backstory given, I knew nothing about these characters nor did I care for the fact that they weren't together. Within the first few pages, I realized that this is the more modern style of historical that I don't care for. The hero is such a renowned spy but couldn't find out what had happened to the heroine in the interim? Both are immediately hurling accusations at the other? And what's wrong with red hair? Nope this one is not for me.

I love reading historical romance! The Risk of Rogues was a short, but brought the glitter and glamor of the ton with the secrets, betrayals and confusion that a good historical romance does to the main characters. Anne and Hartley were in love many years ago. Hartley asked for Anne’s hand, but was denied. He left and she never knew why. She is feeling betrayed and he is confused about where to find her and why she feels betrayed. The makings of a good story are there especially when you add in the secrets of Hartley’s job and the lack of confidence that Lady Anne has with his ‘supposed’ lifestyle.

The Risk of Rogues by Sabrina Jeffries was a short fun read.

3.5 Stars!! I liked this book. This is the 2nd book I’ve read in the Sinful Suitors series. I had been wanting to read a book for Hart ever since I read about him in ‘The Secret of Flirting’! This book can be read as a standalone. It’s a short read, it’s only a novella. It was too short for me to really get into the story or to get to know Anne, the main female character. The book is told in both characters POV, which I really liked! It’s a cute & quick read & worth reading, especially if you’ve read other books in the series!!

Warren's brother gets his HEA! Lord Hartley thinks he is going away for a man's weekend, but ends up at a house party his brother and wife arranged. While there, he runs into his old love, Anne, and their courtship is renewed. Can he convince Anne to take a chance on him without revealing his new career is spymaster for Fulkham?

Anne has a love for crazy hats which I found fascinating to read about. The romance is as wonderful as always when Jeffries writes and a lot is packed into this novella. Historical romance lovers will love this quick and lovely read.

I received a review copy as part of the Regency Review Crew.

The story was good but I was expecting it to be longer. There wasn't much building of the story so it ended rather abruptly which was disappointing..

This is a quick novella so the author doesn’t have much time for character development. We have a couple that had been in love a long time ago when the heroine was just a teenager. But the hero, Hartley Corry, was just a second son, although the son of a Marquess, and the heroine, Anne was the young daughter of a merchant who didn’t want his daughter to marry a guy with few prospects. So the romance ended and neither married. Hart went off to join the military and is now a spy set to be promoted to spymaster.

They meet up again at a house party and after a few harsh words, they agree to a courtship to see if they suit. That happens pretty quickly and then, basically, the dilemma for Anne is whether Hart can afford to get married and support her. Her dowry has basically disappeared so she’s worried that he doesn’t have a firm career. He can’t tell her that he’s a spy.

It all seemed rather simplistic. There isn’t much romantic tension - just Hart finding a way to convince her that he can afford to support a wife and family. I couldn’t bring myself to care whether or not he could find a way to convince her and whether she’d believe him.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

A good historical romance.
Good drama, slight humor and romance.
Ann and Hart were friends and in love when they were young but their parents forbade their getting married.
They went their separate ways.
Many years later they meet again but Ann won"t give Hart the time of day.
He decides to win her back by courting her but has to figure out how.
Enjoyed reading.

A short read that doesn’t fall to the curse of the novella.  It was well organized, characters had a backstory that made this quick courtship make sense; I absolutely loved how frank they both were at the very beginning of the story. That scene was so refreshing from the sometimes drawn out, keep secrets, tell only half truths, protect the other none sense that can make for a really good romance; however, it was nice that all of that was skipped in this story.  It had a perfectly orchestrated plot and development of the love story.  It was perfect in every way.  Refreshing and enjoyable from start to finish.

I did not realize this was a novella when I started it, but I'm glad it was. Their romance was perfect for a novella. I haven't read the other books in the series, but it still made sense, and makes me interested in reading the others!

I really enjoyed Anne and Hart's story, although I do wish it had been a full length novel. This is a second chance romance, which is always one of my favorites.

Lady Anne is heart broken when she learns that Hart left for India after her father refused to give his permission for them to marry. When she runs into him at a house party years later and he renews his interest in her, she thinks it is because she now has Lady in front of her name.

Hart is ecstatic that he finally has a second chance at winning Anne, but she doesn't seem to think he is sincere. He can't reveal to her that he has been a spy for years and soon hopes to be the head of that organization to prove to her that he can support her. Can he convince Anne that he is sincere in his attention and that they can finally get their HEA?

This was a great addition to the Sinful Suitors series and I can't wait to see what Jeffries comes up with next!

A perfect second chance love story.

A young couple kept apart by a disapproving father. Years later they meet again and all's well that ends well. Of course, to get there, there have to be a few obstacles and mainly regaining each other's trust.

This is a perfect read for an evening. A very quick and light read.

a quick enjoyable novella of 2nd chance love. Hart and Anne fell in love young, he in school & she just 16, and wanted to married but neither father approved and kept them apart with neither realizing the level of parental interference. it's 11 yrs later, Hart is once again living in England and out of the military when they cross path's unexpectedly at a valentine's country house party. Hart knows Anne is the only woman he's ever wanted and quickly decides that she's the only one he ever will. Anne is a little more wary and heart shy. A secret re-courtship ensues and the two try determine that they still "fit" and Anne tries to decide if she can again trust Hart with her heart. The story quickly progresses through the week hitting the highlights (with some humorous and sexy moments) while managing to deftly avoid bogging down the story with all the details or rushing through of the courtship. Concerns on both sides are also addressed in a balanced manner so that the reader is able to appreciate the relationship between the two without feeling it is over rushed or breezed over. All in all an enjoyable way to spend a couple hours.

THE RISK OF ROGUES is an enjoyable read and a great addition to the series. Rarely do I read about a Regency heroine so concerned with her intended's occupation, as it would definitely affect her future children's ability to survive in the world. In that I do find Anne quite practical and levelheaded, perhaps because she's a little bit older than most heroines in Regency tales, and thus she's able to use her head even while the hero's seducing her.

Hart is a typical Regency hero, though I wish he had exercised more care and thought to Anne's first time. I also didn't like that he thought to entrap Anne into marriage (definitely a first for a hero, and while with good intentions, I still didn't like it), but thank goodness Anne wouldn't be swayed until he had satisfied her questions. Two thumbs up for a strong heroine.

Overall though, I had an enjoyable hour or two reading this novella.

Loved it! Yet again with the Risk of Rogues, Sabrina Jeffries has come out with another amazing addition to the Sinful Suitors Series. She has packed just enough romance, determination, loyalty, and sex into this novella to make it a great summer read. I definitely would not mind seeing more of Captain Hart and Lady Anne, to find out what else life has in store for them. Short, sweet and a fun read.
