I received this novella from the publisher for a review through Netgalley. I was not aware that this was a novella when I requested it, and I typically wouldn't read a novella from a series without reading the other novels prior, but I ended up enjoying this short, sweet romance. I enjoyed this second chance romance story and liked the steps the heroine made the hero do to prove himself to her. This taste of the series has made me interested in reading the others and I can see why Sabrina Jeffries is typically a romance reader favorite

What I love about Ms. Jeffries’ stories is the humor. Hart is hilarious and Anne keeps up with his sarcasm. A short but lovely tale of second chance love. My only wish, it was longer. I wanted more Hart.

I really love the books by Sabrina Jeffries but unfortunately The Risk of Rogues couldn't really draw me in. It was a nice story but I always waited for a bit ...more. More feelings, more character development, more...everything.
On the whole, it felt a bit rushed, like an afterthought of "oh, what happened to them". I mean, it is short, I know that. 100 pages are not that long but after some time of them talking mostly past one another, I was a bit irritated how quickly everything was dissolved.

Apart from that though, Hart and Lady Anne are sweet and knowing about their love for each other (though not really feeling it) you just want them to be happy. Hart is loyal and, well, who wouldn't love a guy who falls in love with the one woman who is not like the others, the who is not an outstanding beauty, who is not dressed like the others and has a very unique personality?
Oh, and of course, Lady Anne being the one who is all those things, you can't help but love her either! Feisty, strong and unique - exactly the kind of heroine that I love.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this story even though I liked the author's other books better that I've read so far.

Title and author: The Risk of Rogues by Sabrina Jeffries

Genre: Historical

Rating: 4 Stars

The Sinful Suitors stories are in my favorite series from Sabrina Jeffries, as the characters are very engaging while each premise has been original. Though this concluding book is only a novella, it still showcases the author’s talent in its many captivating scenes. From humorous remarks and responses to moments where hearts are on the line, THE RISK OF ROGUES kept me entertained and emotionally involved.

When Captain Lord Hartley Corry went to visit the hunting lodge belonging to his brother, he was not thrilled upon discovering the activities now included a ball and many women were also in attendance. Since he is not married, he fears some of the females will possibly be looking at him as a perspective husband. At one time, he had wanted to marry Anne Barkley, but he ended up joining the English army instead when their plans fell through. Now Hart is a spy for the government, and he likes the path his life has taken. But when he realizes Anne is assisting with the festivities, he wants answers to his questions concerning their prior relationship and what went wrong.

Hart has intrigued me since first being met in previous books of the series, as he has to keep much about himself a secret. While it has been assumed that his behavior is not the best, he could not defend himself or risk giving up information about some of his covet missions. I felt for him then, and I am glad he got the opportunity to perhaps have some happiness of his own. Anne is a delight as her lively personality is clearly evident time and again. Her love of wearing colorful hats sets her apart, and I enjoyed seeing how her newest creation would look. As this couple delves into the reasons why they are not currently together, I had the pleasure of watching them explore their greatest desires and experience the unexpected. THE RISK OF ROGUES is filled with enchanting situations and lots of emotion.

For me, Sabrina Jeffries is a guaranteed great read. I have enjoyed Ms. Jeffries' books for a long time and she never disappoints. I liked her latest novella The Risk of Rogues, the main characters had enough chemistry, heat and love between them and were exceedingly likable.
Hartley and Anne were sweethearts years ago, in fact, they were supposed to elope together. Hartley broke Anne's heart when he left without a word and sailed off around the world having adventures while she was alone.
Hartley's heart is bruised, but much less so than Anne's. He has been working for the Foreign Office, spying a bit, but has never taken the time to find out what happened to the woman he once loved. He believed she was married by now and probably a mother too - Hartley decided their love was best left in the past.
Which was fine until he runs into her at a house party. Anne isn't married or engaged at all. She is still Anne and he feels his heart begin to stir for her again.
These two have to overcome their past hurt feelings if they are to find their way to a happily ever after. Hartley is willing to court Anne quietly and hopes it leads to marriage. Anne has to decide if she will open her heart to him again and forgive the past.
Reunion stories aren't usually my favorites, but I like how this novella addresses their past hurts and misunderstandings with the possibility that this couple can begin anew. Trademark Sabrina Jeffries passionate love scenes are always a bonus! Recommended, very good read.

The Risk of Rogues is a very quick paced, easy read. I love the character of Anne who is unique in her looks, style and thinking and is well matched up with Hart who appreciates her for her special qualities. I do not retell the story or even give a synopsis in my reviews as you can read the excerpt about the book and I do not like reviewers who tell the whole story and ruin the ending. The characters are well developed and the story is engaging.I found the story interesting enough to read in one sitting which is the sign of a good book to me. I would recommend this book and will look for other books to read by this author.

Captain Lord Hartley “Hart” Corry is the second son of the late Marquess of Knightford. He works as a spy for Spymaster Gregory Vyse, Baron of Fulkham. Hart arrives at his brother’s hunting lodge only to find his sister-in-law hosting a party. He is startled to discover his past love among her attendees. Hart intends to re-court Anne and win back her affections. What lengths will Hart go to marry Anne? Can he convince her to trust him without revealing his profession?
Lady Anne Barkley is the only daughter of the late Earl of Staunton. Her peers know Anne for her eccentric and elaborate hats. She attends a friend’s party to help raise money for a charity event. However, to her dismay, Anne finds Hart at the event. She has reservations about re-engaging their old relationship. Can Hart convince Anne to put their past behind them to start anew? Or will she let her uncertainty stand in the way of their happiness.
Hart’s clandestine profession requires him to encourage his peers to view him as an outgoing, gambling rascal. I like how he gives Anne the unvarnished truth rather than jeopardizing his chances with lying. I adore how defensive Hart got whenever Anne belittled her coloring or her size. He prefers her vibrant red hair and well-rounded size than petite, blonde debutantes. What I love the most about Hart is what he’s willing to do to assure Anne’s fears enough to marry him.
I adore the fact that Anne is not a dainty or petite woman. Instead, she is on the plump side. I wish more authors in all genres will consider writing more full rounded heroines. I understand Anne’s caution about re-engaging with Hart, especially learning about the hurdles the two encountered during their previous courtship. What I like most about Anne is how comfortable she is with her unique fashion sense. She cares little what society thinks of her unconventional hats.
THE RISK OF ROGUES is book 5.5 in Sabrina Jeffries historical romance series, SINFUL SUITORS. This charming short story can stand alone without reading the previous five books and two novellas. I love how the heroine from book three, THE DANGER OF DESIRE, and Fulkham, the hero from book five, THE SECRET OF FLIRTING, play important roles in the book. I also like the fact that the entire story takes place around Valentine’s Day.
THE RISK OF ROGUES is a sweet tale of correcting past mistakes for a second chance at love and happiness. I like how the author ends the series with Hart finding his happily-ever-after. Yet, I am sad that another delightful series has come to its conclusion.

This is from the Sinful Suitors series by Sabrina Jefferies.
First, I have read all the other books within the series, this is the first I'd classify as a novella. I honestly would have rated this higher if it had been full length, the story felt rushed. I wanted more for Hartley than a super quick read.
Basic Plot: Young love thwarted by parents. Time passes, as it does, Hartley and Lady Anne are reunited. Courtship and secrets revealed. The end.

I’ve read many of Sabrina Jeffries books and most of them have been in her Sinful Suitors series. While it’s not imperative to start any of the books at the beginning of the series, it certainly does help as a lot of the characters interweave between the books.

Several months ago I finished book number 5 so when I saw a 5.5 come up as a novella, I knew I wanted to check it out.

Hart is a secondary character in the book 4 and 5 but becomes the main character in this book. You definitely want to read book 5 first as you get a little bit of insight into who he is.

Hart has a secret life, you see, and when he runs into his past love, that can be a hindrance. But, the author is well-versed at overcoming obstacles, especially when those obstacles are stubborn women who really want the hot guy.

The story is a fun diversion and perfect for an hour or two to get ready for her next story. I really wish this book was a tad longer so that we could get to know Hart just a little bit more. However this story has her trademark plot all over it. Sexy guy, strong woman, and a whole lotta fun.

3.75 stars. Although I am not a fan of novellas, this was worth reading. This second chance at love story between Anne and Hart could have benefited by additional fleshing out of characters. The story was a quick sexy cute read. Hart didn’t want to change Anne, he loved her just the way she was.
I received this book through NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Captain Lord Hartley Corry is shocked to see his past love, Lady Anne, upon arriving at his brother’s house. He yearns for a second chance to woo her, but he’s unsure if he can trust her with the truth. He is a spy! Lady Anne is upset that Hartley didn’t fight for her hand or elope with her as he promised. He can’t walk up to her as if nothing happened. He’s going to have to win her back.
This is a sweet, albeit short historical romance. The characters are in love with each other from the very beginning. But, mistakes, misinformation and pride stop them from getting together. I loved how they communicated and found where their true hearts lie. There was not a lot of action, but a happy and satisfying ending made the read worthwhile. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

House parties are a familiar setting for romance readers. In this one, Lord Hartley Corry runs into the woman who has held his heart since they were young enough for their parents' opinion to make a difference. He immediately decides that he's going to corner her and make her love him again.

Lady Anne isn't going to immediately fold. She wants to know a) why Hartley didn't stick around when they were younger, b) why he never got in touch, and c) how he's going to support them now (her inheritance is not as large as it is rumored to be.)

This was an okay story. If it had been longer I wonder if Hartley's insistence on rekindling the romance wouldn't come off as slightly creepy as it did. And Anne's confrontation with his boss just came off as weird and out of place. Even with those detractions, I don't think regular readers will be disappointed.

Not the best Sabrina Jeffries book but also not horrendous. I was a bit disappointed that Hart's story was only a novella and I didn't really feel a massive connection between the two characters. That being said, second chance romances are a difficult one to get right and this book didn't completely fail in it's aim. 2.5 stars.

I think I need to accept that Sabrina Jeffries is just not an author for me. Her synopses always draw me in, but then I end up disappointed.

This was a fun if predictable story that was an afternoon read on the back deck. I wasn't particularly enamoured of the lack of depth of the plot or characters but I was looking for a fluffy read, and that's what I got.

I could not get past the first couple of pages. The heroine is overly dramatic and jumps to conclusions that make absolutely no sense. Not Sabrina Jeffries's best work.

Hart and Lady Anne are the perfect couple. Too bad he jilted her years earlier. Ms. Jeffries puts seduction to work in this book. It shows what a man will go to for love. A great read. I hated for it to come to an end.

Captain Lord Hartley Corry arrives at his brothers estate expecting a relaxing time with friends, hunting & fishing only to find his sister in law has invited lots of people including unmarried debutantes. Lady Anne is shocked when Captain Lord Hartley Corry, her former fiancé who left for India after her father forbade their marriage, arrives at the house party. He never fought for her hand or eloped with her as he promised. Hart is equally shocked to literally run into his past love upon arriving at his brother's house.
I’ve been waiting for Hart’s story for a while & although I thoroughly enjoyed the read, how I wish it had been a full length novel not a novella, I wanted more. I love the author’s books & the whole Sinful Suitors series has been delightful it was a shame it finished with a short story. Don’t get me wrong the characters were well rounded & the story flowed very well I just wanted to be able to prolong the final instalment. This was a lovely read of second chances, both Hart & Anne had never loved anyone else but had been torn apart at an early age & now eleven years later Anne especially wonders if she can trust Hart.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The Risk of Rogues is a novella in the Sinful Suitors series by Sabrina Jeffries. It can easily be read as a standalone story.

Captain Lord Hartley Corry (Hart) was very much in love with his sweetheart, Anne, several years ago. Her father didn't want them to marry, so they talked about eloping together. Before they had a chance to do just that, Hart joined the army and went to India without even saying goodbye to Anne.

In the time that he was away, Hart wrote to Anne many times but she never answered his letters. He still loved her, was very hurt by her but guessed that she must have moved on and had married somebody else. Although he never stopped loving her, he didn't look too hard for her when he returned to England, so convinced was he that she had married another.

Hart was invited to a house party his brother was throwing, and it was to his complete shock that he saw Anne there too. He had been correct, she had remarried, and she has gone from being just a merchant's daughter to a Lady, a widowed one at that.

When Anne and Hart see each other again sparks fly. They are both hurting after what they see as a betrayal from each other. Anne thinks he left and didn't care enough about her to even keep in touch. Hart thinks she didn't care enough about him to answer his letters, and then, of course, she married another man! Despite the feelings of hurt, the instant they set eyes on each other the lust was still there. Dare I say love too, although each hated to admit it to themselves.

Can our couple have a second chance at love, will they get the other to understand what happened in the past, and will they be able to trust each other enough again to give in to their feelings for each other?

Although this was a short story which easily could have been expanded on, there was enough time to make their reunion believable. I thoroughly enjoyed reading as their story unfolded and they realised that neither of them had betrayed the other. I also loved reading about Anne's love of hats and the creations she came up with! That's something novel that I haven't come across before in the many historical romances that I have read! All in all, this was a fun, sexy, romance that I fully enjoyed and recommend.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book.
