Nina Crespo is a new to me author and I’ll be back for more. FORGET YOU, the first book in THE KINGMAN BROTHERS series, sucked me in from the first page to the last. I kept reading to see what would happen next, even when I should have been doing other things!
Sophie and King have chemistry but since they work together – she’s his personal assistant and right hand – they’ve never acted on it. He’s a womanizer with a different flavor of the week, if not day, but she has explicit fantasies about her boss and doesn’t date much. When King needs her to attend a gala with him and provides the outfit for her to feel more comfortable and fit in, things heat up – or do they? Sophie isn’t happy with the way things turned out, so she’s willing to leave her job and concentrate on her jewelry designs. How does that work out?
There are twists and turns to the story and not all are happy ones. We get to know King’s brother Aiden and their father as well. There’s a nice flow to the story and a depth to the characters after we first get to know them superficially, which didn’t endear me to King or his lifestyle initially. Although, he does redeem himself as the story unfolds. There is some closure with an unexpected twist or two at the end, but the story concluded too abruptly for me. I can only hope we’ll be reunited with Sophie and King in Aiden’s story, FIGHT FOR YOU, and see where life takes them.
I look forward to reading more books by Ms.Crespo and hope for better closure.
I must say this wasn’t what I was expecting, but none the less, it was enjoyable. The story was intriguing and held your attention. The characters were easy to relate to and connect with. Fans of the romance genre will find this very enjoyable!
Oh my God, you cannot even imagine how much I liked this book! I liked the characters, the story, I liked the writing, I liked how the action is fitted perfectly in the dimensions. I liked everything!
Sophie has had a major crush on her boss. But she knows very well that the success of their business relationship is due to its professional aspect. She is not willing to cross this line, especially since he often changes partners. But one evening she accompanies him at an official event and things get out of control. Problem is that after the deed is done (if you get what I mean), they cannot go back to how things were. Add to that a little amnesia (really, a real amnesia) and the story gets more interesting and more intense.
Let me tell you, the characters are really really good. You don’t see that jealous secret lover who envies every other woman that comes next to her man. No, you see a mature Sophie, looking to secure her independence, but more from an emotional point of view. She is not looking for “complicated”. She just wants a beautiful relationship, as any woman. King is a business man and he needs the success to prove to his father that he is no longer needed, that his influence has not touched him or his brother. He knows that it’s better for him to keep Sophie close from a professional point of view. Who cares about flings and one night stands? Well, we shall see….
Besides the fire burning between our main characters, we have a great relationship between brothers. While King deals with his amnesia, his brother is there to take control. When one is down, the other is there to pick him up. If one is in a hurry to close the deal, the other takes his time to analyze. I liked it. I liked how the author spent time developing the brothers, not only the couple.
So after my first encounter with Nina Crespo, I can tell you that I loved her book and her writing! You will not be disappointed at all! An interesting love story, a quick read, perfect for an evening of dreaming.
I loved this story start to finish! Sophie is the assistant to King and she is like superwoman in the office and keeps him on time for everything. When one of his dates reads more into their relationship than he wants he sends her away but now he needs a date for the gala so he has Sophie go with him. Sophie has been attracted to her boss for a long time but she know she would be doomed if she allowed it to happen, well now they are both doomed. Loved how strong Sophie is and determined and her attention saves King plenty of times.
I'm not really a fan of the amnesia plot, but this one was okay! I liked the relationship between Sophie and King and I also liked their chemistry once they started showing their feelings for each other.
It was an okay romance overall, but I wanted more steam.
LOVE. We've all been through it. At times we rue it. Yet when it's right we wouldn't change a thing. The perfect description of Forget You. Crespo used my own heart against me. King and Sophie are messy, dysfunctional, frustrating, emotional, yet realistically exceptional. Forget You takes a walk down memory lane with the heart as it's guide, to remind us why when it comes to love, the fight is worth the fall.
Forget You is an office romance story.
Sophie and King have worked together for a long time, but have always had a burning attraction. They've never crossed the line between co-workers and something more personal since King doesn't do relationships, and Sophie thinks her crush is one-sided.
Then Sophie is coerced into attending a party with King, and they spend one steamy night together. Too bad what Sophie thought was a dream come true turned that King only wanted her for one night. Learning this Sophie leaves the company and then gets called back when King is in an accident that causes amnesia.
I wanted to like this story. However, there were a lot of issues with Sophie and King's relationship that I honestly couldn't get behind. Sophie forgives King so fast after he was such a complete troll to her. Plus, it didn't feel like King changed that much.
Overall, I liked the story well enough for a three-star rating, and I might enjoy the next book in the series, but it wasn't the best.
Simply amazing! I loved Sophie and King!
If you've read enough of my reviews, you know I love an injured man and him falling for the nurse/PT/friend who helps him. This isn't quite like that but still he's injured, in a way, but I think the amnesia and his healing, makes him realize he needs to change his priorities around a bit. I did love how he knew little things about Sophie, even when both he and she hadn't realized that they were looking out for each other.
And how exciting for Sophie to get to do what she's always had a passion to do and all because King had introduced her to a store owner.
I almost want Robin and Aiden to get together, but only because I don't know more about Aiden and what makes him tick.
Sophie had always found that her boss, Nicolas, was attractive since she began working for him two years ago, but he seems oblivious. A sexy interlude at a charity gala removes Nicolas' blinders, but will he be willing to stop being an idiot long enough to give their relationship a chance, or will his desire to forget that night damage everything?
I normally enjoy office romance tropes, but 'Forget You' and I didn't hit it off as well as expected. It had potential, but I felt it fell short. I could tell that the couple had great chemistry, but buying into the love angle had me doing some serious side-eye. Also, I felt that there were issues left unresolved at the end of the book.
I still look forward to the next in the series, though, as there were some smile-inducing moments in the book that made me want more of the Kingman brothers' interactions.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book, which I received via NetGalley.
I read book 2, Fight for You first and knew I had to go back and read this one. LOVED! Nina Crespo had me at hello and ever since her Wishes series, I've been a loyal reader. Family drama, steam and a loveable HEA.
The ending of this one tied up way too quickly and neatly for me. What happened with the Ivy Gate deal? What did they find? Was the father behind King's accident? Or was it someone else? I was left with too many questions to find the ending satisfying.
Sophie Jordan wishes her boss Nicholas 'King' Kingman would take notice of her in a romantic way. However, there's no way he'd get involved with an employee. Yet, when he needs her to be his date for a charity gala, she finds things changing for the better. But when King is injured in an accident, will Sophie and King achieve their shot at happy ever after or will he ruin things between them because he believes he's not cut out for a forever relationship?
Ms. Crespo is a new-to-me author and I'm really glad I read this story because it was a wonderful and entertaining book from start to finish, especially because of what happens to the hero and the decisions the main characters make that put them at odds. Will the hero respect the heroine's wishes when it comes to her career path? However, it was from the moment the hero has his accident where things really get interesting for this story, as the hero needs the heroine.
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the hero, since what his father did is the reason why he's so against a forever relationship. Will the hero realize that forever is a good thing before he loses the woman that's coming to mean everything to him? Moreover, the heroine is strong and courageous when it comes to handling the hero's reaction to what is happening between them. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine was the decisions she makes that have her pursuing her passion and something she excels at. While the hero, he's confident, hard-working and I liked that he realized how invaluable the heroine was to him. She's not just his employee. I also liked the challenges the hero faces including whether he'll be able to handle the pressure of his job once the accident happens. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was his determination to win the heroine over, especially once he realized how much she's coming to mean to him.
Overall, Ms. Crespo has delivered a delightful read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was strong; the romance wonderful; and the ending had me loving what the hero does to win the heroine back after their relationship goes awry. I would recommend Forget You by Nina Crespo, if you enjoy workplace romances, the boss-employee romance, or books by authors Katee Robert, Lia Riley, Jenny Holiday and Megan Crane.
What’s it About? Sophie Jordan has been “in lust” with her boss, CEO Nicolas “King” Kingman for such a long time but he has a reputation for brief flings so Sophie has to content herself with her fantasies. Then one night King asks her to be an emergency stand in date for him at a charity gala and things take a steamy turn, only to turn glacial again the next morning when King is determined to forget their night together. Hurt and angry, Sophie plans to resign but then King is in an accident and ends up with a chunk of his memory gone. So Sophie agrees to stay and help him until he closes a major deal. King can’t remember his night with Sophie but he does remember the attraction between them and that he can’t live without her.
Overall reaction to the story? Okay so Forget You could have been a lot better than it actually was. For starters, it is billed as a sort of romcom but no laughs were found, much less had. I didn’t think Sophie’s sappy, puppy dog crush on King was funny. The way she handled it was kind of well, pathetic. At times she seemed like she was going to really be a tough woman and handle King like an adult but most of the time she was more like a teenager with a crush on a powerful older man and King wasn’t much older than she was! She was whiny and self pitying and all around wimpy. She would justifiably get angry at the way King treated her romantically but all he had to do was be all helpless (or smolder in her general direction) and she would forget everything he did and her anger at him. What? I thought King had the amnesia! Way to keep your power and dignity Sophie. *sarcasm*
And King’s abuse of power? Come on dude, is that the only way you can score time alone with Sophie? By manipulating her feelings? Playing the boss card? Taking her to your f*ck palace (Sophie’s name for it) for a one nighter? No dude. Just, no. King needed to GROVEL like a champ and there was no groveling, no real character growth, just the amnesia that kept him from remembering more recent events. I didn’t see any real change in him. No wooing of Sophie, no romantic overtures, nothing. Just a lot of sexual chemistry happening when they were supposed to be working. FYI, the workplace during a time you’re supposed to be working isn’t the ideal place to show a woman you’re really into her for the long haul King.
I didn’t feel a connection to either character and yeah, their romance fell flat. It was more of a lust relationship than anything and while the author frequently mentions that King and Sophie have been friends for a long time, I saw no trace of that friendship anywhere. There was no connection between them other than work and the lust that was more on Sophie’s side than King’s. It just didn’t work for me. These are two characters that I just didn’t “get” as a couple.
Click It or Skip It? Skip It. I didn’t care for either character’s behavior and their romance wasn’t a romance but a lust induced haze. The author is one I’ve enjoyed before but this just wasn’t one of those times.
Sophie Jordan has hot sexy dreams about her boss Nicolas “King” Kingman, but she never thought it would go anywhere. Until one day King at the last minutes asked Sophie to attend the charity gala. Soon Sophie dreams come true but at what cost to their professional relationship.
This is a book that I was going to pass up on reading than at the last minute I decided to read…I am glad that I did. Because, Forget You by Nina Crespo, published under the Pocket Star brand, was truly hot. This was a book that I couldn’t put down and had to stay up well past dawn to complete. The characters of Sophie and King was anything but boring. At times, I wanted to strangle one or both.
The device of having King losing time, in Forget You was done superbly. It wasn’t to contrive, to me, it brought the story together.
Only thing I didn’t like about Forget You was that ending. I know some author love to leave some room for the next book, but I thought the ending could have been a little longer. But, other than that Forget you was a good start to this series. I am really looking forward to reading about Aiden.
Forget You is the first book by Nina Crespo that I've read and while I enjoyed the story it didn't fully grab me or live up to what I expected from the blurb...
I really liked Sophie and after a while I got to like King (but I would have preferred his first name or a shortened version of it rather than King) - their dynamic and attraction was believable and as a couple they could so easily have been a hit from the off - but then he had to go and be a complete jerk.... That was what put me off him a little but as we got to see his side of things and he fought to remember things he'd forgotten after the accident that's when I warmed up to him.
The story itself was well written with a good variety of supporting characters (I'm looking forward to finding out more about Aiden!!) but overall I felt there was a little something missing (not sure what exactly....) and for that reason I'm giving book 1 in The Kingman Brothers 3.75*
Unfortunately, this wasn't the book for me and I had to DNF. The H was an arrogant bastard and the h was a doormat and I couldn't connect with either of them enough to care to find out how the book ended.
(Disclaimer: I'd probably put this at more 3.5 stars than 4.)
I liked Sophie (although I do think she didn’t make King work hard enough to win her back). She’s tried really hard to resist King, knowing exactly what kind of womanizer he is. She likes her job and crushing on him from the other side of the office door is at least something … until one night things get out of hand. I have to admire her for standing up for herself and getting out of the situation when she needed to. With King’s injury, though, everything changes. She still has feelings for him and the hurt is still there but she tries her best to keep things going smoothly for now. I couldn’t help cheering for her to go after the things that would make her really happy.
The amnesia thing isn’t as bad as might sound. King only looses a little bit of time, just enough to make the deal they’d been working on difficult. (It isn’t some soap opera-y thing :) ) It helps to keep them together for just a little bit longer while King gets back on his feet. It also had me feeling even more for her. To be the only one to know what really happened but to face him every day and pretend like everything is fine … just awful.
I do wish we’d gotten a bit more about King’s relationship with his father. Crespo gives us just enough to understand why he doesn’t get involved but I think a little more detail would have made him even more relatable. As it is, for some, he might come off as a big of an a$$ instead of someone with issues. He really doesn’t treat women well at all before he finally lets Sophie in.
Full of angst and drama, uncomfortable moments and difficult situations, Forget You isn’t a light and easy read. But it does bring heat, heartache, growth, and a HEA ending.
This was my first book from Nina Crespo and I loved that her characters weren’t dark and yet they were complex enough to make the story interesting.
I was not a fan of the hero of this story,Nicolas Kingman, aka King. I found him too uptight and controlling. His thought processes were increasingly frustrating as the book progressed, maybe because of the amnesia he suffered from. He may have won the girl in the end, but I felt like the heroine, Sophie, was the one who gave in and understood him. She was strong and had a forgiving heart. Sophie is an executive assistant, working for King, the CEO of her company. Despite their mutual attraction, they view each other as strictly off-limits. King isn’t interested in commitment, Sophie isn’t interested in a casual affair with her sexy boss. They try to fight their mutual attraction, but denying it becomes harder and harder.
The entertainment factor was there, but the plot was rather predictable and the ending was abrupt. In my opinion, the storyline needed a little fleshing out, especially at the end. But all in all, I enjoyed this sexy office romance, so I’m just going for a neutral 3 stars rating.
This book was a bit of a twist on what I consider the norm for rich boss and employee romance and I liked it.
Sophie is the best admin the Kingman brothers ever had, and never has Nic 'King' though about her in any way other than that. That is until he fought with his flavor of the week and had a friend dress her to attend a gala with him.
One night of passion followed by rejection has Sophie quitting her job, two weeks notice.
His plane going off the runway leaves him with a head injury and no recollection of their one night of passion, or the things he discovered at the gala.
Sophie makes a connection that will help her make the decision to leave King once he's well enough to return to work. His friend Meghan who dressed her for the gala has a new clothing line coming out and she is designing and making the jewelry to compliment it.
I liked the twist of the guy having the accident and having to figure everything out again, including the way he managed to lose the girl.
A fun read with angst, family drama, sexual tension, plenty of sizzle and so much more!
The Why: A disgruntled assistant + an amnesiac boss = a charming and fun novel
Characters:
Sophie is assistant to probably the world's jerkiest bosses who is the love'em and leave' em type to women. Despite this fact, she's always had a crush on King, but will always be out of her reach. But on the night of a big gala, she begrudingly accepts his offer to be his date. Things quickly escalate between the two in passion. As Sophie thinks that maybe Kong has changed his ways, she has played herself, because the next day he pretends nothing has happened. His attitude ticked me off because he brushed her off and I was cheering for her to take on a business deal with the fashion designer she met. She is ready to move on and has put her 2 weeks' notice in. But as soon as King is in a plane accident things take off from there.
I feel like King's character arc didn't start for me at least until after his accident. I want to choose to forget the fact that he treated Sophie after the gala. He didn't realize how hurt Sophie was until he realized how much he wanted her back and she was the one girl he wanted to be committed to. With advice from Meagan and his brother Aiden, he realized in order to get Sophie back be needed to put the effort in to show her. I loved his characterization and he made me proud.
Final Rating: 8\10
