Three women embark on a Mexican get away hoping to heal their broken friendships. Disaster strikes, one ends up dead. Fenton and Steinem have done it again! Girls Night Out combines wonderfully flawed characters with a tight storyline.
Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.
I loved the idea of this book but unfortunately the execution was lacking. So much back and to in timelines it made my head spin. I also didn't like any of the three main characters and while sometimes this helps the story here it just fell flat. What made it three stars was the setting. I love Tulum and the writers nailed the setting and the beautiful descriptions of the places and the Mexican people.
I liked Girls Night Out, I didn't love it but it was a good read. Might have been the dynamics of the friendship and I really could not truly like any of the women but I liked the story and it was a quick read. The twist at the end was good, but not all that unexpected. Certainly worth reading though, especially if you are a fan of the authors.
A book about best friends with twisted memories. Liz and Lisa took you on a friendship repairing vacation and nothing was the same again. Wonderful book with twists and turns and makes you question the next person you meet.
I'm just now starting to get into psychological, suspense, and thriller women's fiction and believe me when I say, Liz & Lisa take the cake so far. Girls' Night Out is a "where did she go" and "who done it" type of book that I didn't want to put down! And when I did have to step away, it was all I could think about.
Ever head the saying, "three's a crowd?" Well, Liz & Lisa explore this topic a little more with three women who've been friends for almost 20 years. There's layers here and each more complicated than the last. Ashley, Natalie, and Lauren go way back, but for the past year they have been more close to the term strangers than besties. I think every woman can agree that life long friends are hard to come by and harder to keep, and when you do find a group of amazing women whom you call friends, you relationships aren't without a little growing pains. I think the authors did a great job of showing that these women had history and that things don't always come easy.
The plot and pace of the novel was spot on. I loved the drama and suspense of it all. The way the book is laid out in before and after chapters was, in my opinion, brilliant. It kept me intrigued and wanting more. The suspense of it all had me worked up to the point of madness and the drama between the women was perfectly laid out. It was believable and I could definitely relate to how something aren't as easy to forgive.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot. This was my first read by Liz & Lisa and I have to say I'm fan. The story was so much fun to dive into and on a more personal level, I think every woman can understand Ashley, Natalie, and Lauren's point of views. The story is of deep friendship, hard truths, and scars from the past. It's an all around great summer read!
This was probably a four star read until the final reveal.
Three-way relationships are hard period. But, you throw three women into a lifelong friendship, you've got a kettle of trouble to sort out. This novel examined one such friendship as it reached a cataclysmic turning point. While the characters were well-developed and the reveals spaced out just right, there were times I just wanted to knock the three heads together and tell them to communicate. Yeah, way easier said than done, I know.
But, as the book steamrolled toward the ending reveal, I found myself flipping the pages to find out what exactly had happened and was pleasantly surprised that I hadn't guessed it. Love it when that happens.
This was a suspenseful and intriguing book. The best friends decide to go away and try to strengthen and get back the closeness they once shared. What happens when things don't go as plan and twists and turns fill every page? Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about this book.
I loved this book! I had a hard time putting it down! I love mystery and intrigue and this was full of it! The relationship between the 3 main characters is one thaT made me want to keep reading to find out what happened!
This book had a very interesting premise but ultimately did not meet my expectations. It was an enjoyable enough read but not great. The inner dialogue is what really did me in, I would have enjoyed it much more if the charachters interacted and conversed more. Plus, since they were already fighting, why would a trip fix everything? They continue to bicker just in a different place.
There was so much hype surrounding Girls Night Out that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. However, I felt really let down. I struggled to connect with the characters, their immaturity and cattiness with one another made my eyes roll so many times, I have a headache.
I will say there was an air of mystery and some twists and turns that kept me guessing, which is the only reason I kept reading this story.
I expect some level of immaturity with characters when it’s a YA novel. But these women are well over the age of thirty and I just wanted them to knock off their bs.
I know there are readers out there that will still really enjoy this book, but sadly I wasn’t one of them.
Thank you to netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for my honest review.
I found it difficult to follow and get into the story of Girls' Night Out. The constant jumping around in perspectives and timelines made it hard to connect to the characters and understand their motives. The mystery portion of the book was well done and kept me guessing. However, I hated the ended; everything felt incredibly unresolved. Perhaps this was the authors intent, but I found myself not really liking any of the three women in the story. This book is fine as a quick summer read, but there are many other mystery/suspense books I would recommend before this one.
Could not put this book down! Riveted until the very end! A twisting and turning tale of friendships, mystery and the fragility of relationships. The story told from three perspectives was key to unraveling the mystery at the heart of the book. Each character was developed, well written and unique! Descriptions in the book were done so precisely I might as well have been watching a movie! Will recommend to all!!
First, let me commend these two friends on working together so beautifully. This book must have been a challenge to write in a variety of ways, especially considering the friendship theme that runs deep throughout. However, I have to be a little critical of the first few chapters. I found myself having trouble keeping track of the three different women and their backgrounds. I don't know that much could have really been done to prevent this rough start though. Throughout the rest of the book the authors were spectacular and disclosing just the right amount of information at a time. I did begin to worry though that what actually happened to Ashley might disappoint, and then I was able to figure it out just before "that night" was revealed in full. I'm still a little unsure how I feel about the ending, but the writing and details was nothing short of amazing. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and will be picking up more books by this duo.

Three women, Lauren, Ashley and Natalie, travel to Mexico in hopes of healing their past. However, when Natalie wakes up one morning on the beach, their getaway has taken a drastic turn! Ashley is missing without a trace, while Natalie has no memory of how she wound up on the beach! Did Ashley run off with a local man that had been interested in her all week or are the girls’ memories being suppressed to cover a tragic incident?
I really enjoy @lisaandliz ‘s writing style! Their plot reveals secrets throughout the book that keep the plot moving. Best of all, right after you think you know what really happened, they add that twist right at the end! I love their honest acknowledgements at the end that remind us that writing is hard and is a pain- staking process!
This one is definitely worth a spot on your TBR! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for free through Netgally for a review. Natalie, Lauren, and Ashley are three friends who go on a girls trip together to Mexico to try to repair their strained friendships and do some soul searching. When one of the three disappears the other two have to help each other try to piece together what happened and search for their missing friend. I felt that the book was more of a slower paced character study of a friendship gone wrong compared to an intense mystery. I didn't find any of the characters to be likeable though I feel like it was an accurate representation of what it can potentially be like between 3 friends. I would recommend it to mystery readers who enjoy in depth characterizations without any detailed violence.
This was like a Real Housewives vacation gone wrong. Three women who have been friends for a long time but have SO MUCH TENSION and CATTINESS among themselves, so they decide to escape to Tulum for a girls' weekend to solve their problems. It was like RHONY's Scary Island episodes (Anybody? Season 3? RHONY? Scary Island? Turtle time? Anybody?) but in book form and with a missing person. The story is told through the alternating perspectives of the three women, and starts off with one of them waking up on the beach with no memory of the night before and then finding that one of her friends has disappeared. I found myself skimming a bit towards the end and not really caring what happened to these ladies, but overall, it was a pretty fun, quick read.
Surprise twists in this one. What makes this realistic is the portrayal of the girls friendships with each other.
Ashley invites her friends Natalie and Lauren to spend a week in Mexico to try and heal their broken friendship. As days go by the friendship is no closer to healing and secrets still remain hidden. Their final night in Mexico they plan a girls night out but Ashley is missing the next morning and no one can explain. A page turner that will have you consumed with wonder.
Riveting and easy to read, this was the perfect summer book to read beside the pool. I will recommend it to others.
3.5 Stars* (rounded down)
Ashley, Natalie and Lauren have been best friends since College, yet as time has gone on, their friendship has waned. It happens to everyone right? Yet Ashley just can’t handle it. She needs them and just isn’t whole without them. As a way to re-solidify their friendship, and celebrate their all turning the big 40, Ashley plans a trip to Tulum, Mexico.
There is only one small problem with her idea. Lauren and Ash haven’t really spoken in a year. Not since their “big” fight at Lauren’s husband funeral and Natalie and Ash? Well they have been arguing over their uber successful company - which Natalie would like to sell to Revlon and Ash would like to keep. Oh…and the other problem? All three have secrets from each other. Big secrets. Secrets that threaten to tear them apart.
Once the Girls arrive in Mexico the barbs fly. So do the drinks. If only they could relax, have fun and enjoy - things would have been different. Maybe nothing would have gone wrong. Maybe Ashley would not have gone taken off. But she did. And now she’s missing.
“Girls Night Out” is a quick, easy read. It was crazy, suspenseful and intriguing. Unfortunately, none of the characters were likable which made it hard to invest in the story. In addition the events were somewhat unbelievable, regardless, I still found the book entertaining and would recommend it to those looking for a mystery/suspense.
This was a buddy read with Kaceey. This read garnered lots of discussion between the two of us.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing, Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
