This book was so much fun, I love a good fairy tale retelling and this one didn’t disappoint. We have the story of Cinderella in a Teaxes shoe shop and a wicked step mother trying to ruin the business...I mean what else do you need? I loved Nico a lot too. Great story
The beloved aging father, the wicked stepmother, the prince, the shoes; see where the story is going? Still Undercover Princess by Lenora Worth is such a fun read. It reads as a stand-alone, but I hope that this is just the beginning with more to come.
The characters include Nico Lamon who has come to Dallas and Eleanor Castle. The undercover spy on Eleanor’s part is a nice plot device that I enjoyed along with the Texas setting. The story is well-written while the characters have a depth in them that fleshes out the Cinderella retelling. I found it just the thing to bring a smile during these cold winter days.
It was really nice to read a book about a strong female lead. She accomplished what she wanted done. I liked how it played off of Cinderella, but took it to an entirely new level.
Sometimes it was hard to connect with the main Character. Also I felt the dialogue wasn’t really how someone would speak in a normal conversation.
I would reccomend this book to anyone wanting a quick but great book. I will definitely read the next book in the series!
This book is a Cinderella re-telling set in a modern day department store. I am a complete sucker for re-telling so dived right into this book.
This book took me a little bit to get into I think I picked it up when I was in the wrong mood for light, fluffy, easy contemporary mood but even still I got into the story and overall really enjoyed.
The author is a great writer and I hope to read more from her in the future. Also, this cover design!
Side note: Nico started to frustrate me a little with his inner monologue but it got a lot better towards the end.
This book was given to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am not given to enthusiastic reviews normally, but I really, really enjoyed this book. The book is loosely based on the Cinderella theme with Eleanor 'Ellie' Castle returning undercover to her family's department store after being forced away from home ten years before, to try to prove that her stepmother is commiting fraud and embezzlement whilst acting as CEO in place of her husband -Ellie's father. Ellie has found out that her father is being kept under sedation at the family home. She has been employed under an assumed name as head of security, and is disguised in couture finery and diamonds at a gala night to promote the shoes of the exclusive House of LAMON when Nick Lamon catches sight of her and immediately knows she is the one woman to wear his exclusively designed red satin Valentine shoes, and more importantly, the one woman for him. However, just after he has vinagled Ellie into putting the shoes on, (of course they are a made to measure fit), she sees a youth snatching a box of expensive jewellery from the counter and running off with it. She jumps up and chases after him and in the process leaves the shoes on the staircase...sound familiar? I won't give away any more spoilers as this is one book you really need to read and it is well worth it! I believe there will be two more books in this series and I hope I will enjoy those just as much. Highly recommended.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Eleanor Castle is the only child of Charles Castle and his late wife Vivian, owners of Castle Department Store. Upon the death of her mother, Eleanor’s father quickly remarried. Caron Castle manipulated Charles into adopting her two children and causing a rift between Eleanor and Charles. Fourteen years later Eleanor returns to right the wrongs that have been done. Using the name Ellie Sheridan, she gains employment as Castle department store’s head of security.
Nico Lamon, is seeking to rebuild his family’s legacy, designing elite women’s wear. Partnering with Castle’s to launch his new line he becomes enamoured with the mysterious head of security. With a cleverly designed marketing campaign to uncover the Lamon Lady, he strives to uncover Ellie’s secrets.
A modern-day retelling of the classic Cinderella, this light-hearted read sweep us along in a tale of redemption and true love. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
I love the modern day retelling of classic fairy tales, the subtle differences, the other ways that each author adds twists and turns to a known story always capture my imagination. Undercover Princess is a delicious retelling of the Cinderella tale – with several delightful twists along the way.
Ellie and Nico make a fun, sexy and determined couple. Each with their own agenda, they must find a way to make “them” work, as well as getting their other wishes completed. I had fun with this first story in the Castles of Dallas series, and it certainly was enough to spark my imagination and need to know what is coming next.
This Cinderella is out to get back at the evil step-mother for the wrongs she’s done, and this Prince Charming will be right there alongside all the way – well ,except when he’s working his own magic that is. I liked them, I enjoyed their story, the different twists gave me a chuckle often and I’ll always fall for a true love story. I’d not hesitate to recommend Undercover Princess to any Contemporary Romance reader who loves a good story, likable characters, a secondary character cast you cannot wait to learn more about and a nasty piece of work for the villain. Can’t go wrong with a classic tale with a modern day twist.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
I just loved this story. It is a cute and loosely based on Cinderella ,
It is short at 159 pages so it didn't take me long to read.
I highly recommend
I enjoyed reading this book, set in Castles department store in Texas.
A twist on a cinderella story, with the whole shoe competition. You like the main characters of Eleanor and Nico, and then there is the wicked step mother who is trying to ruin the family business. This is why Eleanor is back, but undercover, to try and save her Father and his business.
I did get a little confused at times as to whether Nico had worked out who she really was, but a great book.
A delightful story Undercover Princess by Lenora Worth, book one in her Castles of Dallas series, is reminiscent of a fairy story. Think of Cinderella with the wicked step-mother, step-siblings, and Nico Lamon as the prince trying to fit a pair shoes onto one of the women attending the one-hundredth anniversary of the Castle Store’s opening with a Valentine’s Day gala. Eleanor Castle, aka “Ellie Sheridan”, was in attendance undercover trying to gather evidence against her evil step-mother Caron and return to her rightful place controlling Castle Department Stores. Trying to stay in the background doesn’t work when Ellie is forced to try on the shoes and they fit her, and only her. Ellie was to become the Lamon Lady, spokeswoman for Nico’s Lamon line. This leads to a wonderful and sweet story about forgiving oneself for their past mistakes, finding the perfect love and discovering that alternate paths can still get one towards their goal. Nico and Ellie were sweet together and perfect for each other despite the obstacles they and Caron put in their way. I also enjoyed seeing the step-siblings, Annabelle and Aidan, grown-up and wiser to the ways of their mother.
I loved reading this story. Ms. Worth is an excellent storyteller, keeping me interested in this story so that I had trouble putting it down. I highly recommend this outstanding book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
What a cute story! This is Cinderella in a retail store. You will love the way the Undercover Princess ‘infiltrates’ her father’s store to save him and the store from the evil stepmother, Caron. By getting herself hired for security, she hopes to be able to attend the traditional Valentine party at her family home. She just needs to sneak by her ‘evil’ stepmother. Interestingly, the step-siblings do not seem to be all bad. They are just as browbeaten by their mother as Ellie is.
Our prince, Nico, has brought his family’s retail line back from the brink after his father almost ruined it. His family's clothing and shoe line once supplied to Ellie’s family store, Castle. As part of the promotion, he is looking for the ‘Lamon Woman.’ After briefly meeting Ellie and placing his Valentine shoes on her, she disappears. As security head, Ellie, hides behind her job. Once Nico figures out what is going on, he has to convince Ellie she can trust him.
Ellie really wants to be able to get to her father to find out if he is okay. Her stepmother, Caron, says he is too ill to be seen in public, but Ellie is not convinced her father is that ill. She believes Caron might be doing something that is harmful to him. Ellie just wants the truth, wants to see her father and wants her family retail store out of her stepmother’s control.
Ellie and Nico build a rapport quickly even with Ellie fighting against it. You will love his patience and determination to make Ellie his Lamon Woman. This is a sweet, quick book that you will love. The ending is perfect with this book being a great start to a new series.
I received a complimentary arc for review from NG.
I LOVED this book. It is super cute and sweet and has lots of drama and adventure. It is very Cinderella and the whole glass slipper and I loved it. The writing was wonderful and I really grew to care about all the characters.
Nico is our prince and Ella/Eleanor is our Cinderella. But she is hiding and I loved all her disguises. She is trying to save her dad, get rid of the evil stepmother and save her kingdom. Very cute story!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Tule Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, clean, had some intrigue. It read well and fast. The characters were strong and nice (mostly). It was face paced and just fun to read. I rate it 4 stars. I think it's a great Valentine's day read! Think most romance readers would enjoy this book.
A modern day fairy tale based on Cinderella. Eleanor returns to Castle Department Store to win back what is rightly hers from her evil stepmother. Eleanor wants to reclaim the store and her aging father. Eleanor returns undercover in the security department. Nico Lamon has a new line of clothing that he is bringing to the store, including the Valentine Shoes. When he spots Eleanor in the crowd, he knows she is the woman he wants.
Loved this fun flirty story, a quick read that I could not put down. Great characters that I fell in love with. Eleanor is a very strong woman, not afraid to go after what she wants. Was so happy that Nico did not give up! Can't wait to read the next story in the series.
“When you find true love, you’ll find your soulmate, someone you’ll know instinctively. Or someone you’ve been waiting for all of your life.”
Eleanor Castle is retail royalty. She is the real heir of Castle Department Stores, but she was run off by her wicked step-mother, Caron, fourteen years ago. Using the name Ellie Sheridan, Eleanor is back in Dallas and working undercover as head of security at the Castle flagship store. She has gone through a major transformation and even her best friend didn’t recognize her at first. Her goal is to find out what is wrong with her father, bring down Caron and take back what is rightfully hers before the store ends up in bankruptcy.
Nico Lamon, from the Italian fashion house, House of Lamon, has teamed up with Castle promoting a new shoe that he has designed for a Valentine’s Day promotion. The woman who can fit in them will become their new spokesperson. When none of the women can wear them and Nico spots Ellie in the crowd, he insists she come try them on. Even though the shoes fit her perfectly, Ellie doesn’t want any part of it. She has her own plan and it doesn’t include being thrust into the spotlight with Nico. How far will Nico go to get the woman he desires and will it affect Ellie’s plans of revenge?

This he perfect start to a new series filled with lots of glitz and glamour and excitement. I really connected with the characters. This was a well-rounded book with a lot of details. Even the secondary characters had me intrigued. I can’t wait to read their stories. I also liked that the story was set in Dallas and featured a couple familiar landmarks that I could easily visualize while reading.
This was a fun and flirty retelling of Cinderella. Eleanor Castle has returned to her family's department store to fight her stepmother for control. She has no time for dealing with Nico Lamon but he won't take no for an answer. He knew the Valentine Shoes he had designed would fit her perfectly when he first saw her. He also knew he needed to make her his.
This was well written and I really enjoyed these characters. I would definitely recommend it.
