One of my favorite authors for a beach read! She always has compelling family drama and you just have to keep reading to find out what happens. Great read! I highly enjoyed it.
Thayer gives us a solid beach read yet again. There are many layers to A Nantucket Wedding. Of course the relationships you think are doomed survive and thrive and the others, well... Allison and David's families make for a richer story and they do deserve their HEA for sure at the end!
A Nantucket Wedding was more than just a romance beach read. While it was a light, easy read, Nancy Thayer does a wonderful job exploring family relationships and love throughout several stages of life. I enjoyed Thayer’s storytelling through the eyes of a woman and her two very different daughters. Their relationship and lives were relatable and believable.
This was my first reading by Nancy Thayer and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ll be looking for more of her books!
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I love Nancy Thayer's stories of Nantucket; she makes me feel like I am actually there and this book was no different. This book is about family, marriage, changes, and blending of families. David and Alison have both been married before, have lost a spouse, and have grown children with children of their own. A Nantucket Wedding lets the reader experience the trials and tribulations of love, marriage, and the blending of families. This is a wonderful book that I'm sure most would enjoy immensely.
Nancy Thayer definitely knows how to write the best summer reads. This book is no exception. What a perfect location for a wedding - Nantucket.
Alison is happily planning her wedding to David. She lost her husband a few years ago and never expected to remarry, but then she met David and fell in love. Now, they try to combine their already grown children and families together, which is far from easy.
Alison’s daughters Jane and Felicity are married with families of their own, but both are dealing with troubled marriages. Jane wants nothing more than to have her children. Unfortunately, that’s the last thing her husband wants. Felicity has two beautiful children, but her husband seems to have a wandering eye and it’s not wandering in Felicity’s direction. Both women have to figure out what they want to do.
David’s son, Ethan, is going through marital difficulties of his own. Not to mention that he’s a handsome flirt who Jane finds herself attracted to. Alison can’t help but worry about both her daughters in the midst of preparing for a romantic wedding.
This is a delightful story of growth and second chances. These are all characters readers will find themselves truly caring about. This book makes for a pleasant interlude and a relaxing afternoon. I really need to catch up on Nancy Thayer’s books.
FTC Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
As June approaches, love and weddings start to be on people's minds. If you don't have a real June wedding to attend, take some time to spend a fictional summer on Nantucket and be a guest at a wedding there.
David and Alison are a middle aged couple who have found love after their spouses died. Their relationship is sweetly portrayed. The drama in the novel comes from the intricacies of their adult children's relationships. There are Alison's children. First is Jane who is married to Scott; both are hardworking but are they right for each other? Then we have Felicity and her husband, who spends a lot of time at work with his assistant. Will their marriage survive? Does Felicity want it to? Then there are David's children; pregnant Poppy and her playboy brother. Poppu wants to take over her father's company but is she prepared? She does not want to welcome Alison in to family. There is also Poppy's playboy brother who may create a lot of havoc. Read this novel to find out how all of these dramas play out. Along the way, you will be treated to a generous and lovely slice of life on Nantucket. Enjoy!
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy. Another great read from Nancy Thayer! A fall wedding and the planning bring together two very different families and all of their problems. Along the way, each family resolve some of their problems to help them mesh into one big happy family. I loved this book. It kept me glued to the pages from the beginning to the end!
3. 5 stars for this entertaining read. I have never read Thayer before and didn't know what to expect. I will happily add more by the author. This was about a family coming together. Allison and David are getting married. David has a good bit of money...and has that fantastic beach house in Nantucket. Allison wants to bring their grown children together (and grandchildren) to get to know one another before the big event. The Nantucket summer house is the perfect location!
All is not a bed or roses and some character's defects are revealed. I won't spoil that for ya. The descriptions of the setting were spot on and easy to imagine. I could certainly take delight in a vacay there. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. All is not perfect for anyone; and we find all are human and flawed. Lots of family trials and tribulations. But, I could see this as a highly pleasurable Hallmark movie that I'd love watching on a Sunday afternoon curled up with a kitty or 3. I keep imagining that house!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy to review. I highly recommend it! If I hadn't been so busy, it would have made the perfect beach read for me. It turns out my backyard was just fine.
I loved this book. I am partial to books that take place on Nantucket, fascinated by the scenery and the warm sunny summer days and the peace and tranquility that comes over me when I read a story set there. This one is woman's fiction at it's finest. I love the intermingled story lines of the two sisters finally growing closer together as they deal with their husbands and families and life issues. I love the story of the adult mother remarrying on the island and how she brings everyone to the island to be together. I love the stories of the grown siblings and how they learn to maneuver new relationships that are taking place during this summer. It's all well done and wonderfully told.
I was excited to start my first beach read of 2018. I always look forward to Thayer’s new book, but this one fell short. I always love how I get transported to Nantucket and reminds me now much I want to visit the island. This book is a quick simple read. There were some flaws in the book and I was disappointed how predicable the story was. 3.5 Stars.
This is a wonderful story of two families gather over the summer in advance of their parents wedding. David and Alison have both been married before and are looking forward to their children and grandchildren gathering and hopefully melding into one big family. Alison's daughters, Jane and Felicity are having trouble with their husbands and both hope the time away will makes things good again. David's son Ethan is a major flirt and is distracting Jane from her problems. Felicity's husband is a work-a-holic and she's not sure if he's having an affair with his secretary or not. David's daughter Poppy is expecting to take over the family business and isn't too sure she wants her dad getting married. Lots of characters but very easy to keep track of all the cast. Nancy Thayer is a very talented writer and I enjoy most of her books. Enjoy this one on the deck or the beach, it's a winner. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I found this book to be a very pleasant read. Two families coming together for the summer to get to know, not only each other's family, but understanding and accepting their own family as well. The sisters, Jane and Felicity, are able to form a strong bond, and become a support for each other during the trials occurring in their own families. While Poppy, the daughter of the groom, comes to an acceptance of her father's impending wedding, her playboy brother seems to simply be, what he is going to be. Alison and David, the wedding couple, navigate the summer with their respective families coming to terms with the prospect of the new blended family, its impact on their lives and the individual families finding a renewal and/or acceptance of what their family will be for the future. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review. If a book with family love and warmth, but also realistic stress and traumas of everyday life, is something you enjoy, then I highly recommend this book to you.
This is a classic Nancy Thayer novel, and I really enjoyed it. Set in Nantucket like many of her stories are, this is a family story of a couple with grown children who are getting remarried. They want their children to be involved and happy for their engagement, but the kids need to resolve their feelings for their parents, their own spouses and children, and for one another first. It was a wonderful book, full of the struggles of a disparate family and I highly recommend it. I read it in one sitting.
Thanks to Ballantine Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Nantucket Wedding is your standard chick-lit Nantucket story, but with wonderfully warm characters,
This would be a great beach read this summer
I am a huge Nancy Thayer fan. I love the stories she writes and how she makes Nantucket come alive. And with that this book did not disappoint.
However, I have always thought she will carelessly will brush over or dismiss certain flaws of a character in some books. That was the case with this book in particular. She introduced several situations of infidelity, although not sexual inter course but infidelity non the less., and these were not really dealt with.
I enjoyed the book, but this frustrates me when reading, because I want a full resolution at the end of a book. With this book I did not feel like I received that.
Alison and David are getting married; more than anything she wants their grown children (two hers, two his) to bond so she’s planned family weekends at David’s Nantucket home. But there’s more than one hitch: her girls are distant, David’s son is a player, and his daughter doesn’t want her dad to remarry, ever. Summer’s here, and it’s charming.
This is a pretty classic beach read mostly set in a beautiful place, the island of Nantucket. The story jumps right in, with Alison inviting her two daughters to her fiancée's beach home on the island to begin preparations for her wedding, later in the summer. I found the story didn't pick up until the end, and the characters weren't very relatable for me.
2.5 Definitely not my favorite Nancy Thayer. The women are all weak, and if they're not weak they're portrayed as bitches. The men are all jerks, except for maybe Scott, who is the only character that seems like he may be a complete person. The characters did not seem to stick with the same personality throughout the story. I know its a beach read, but I would expect the characters lives to make sense. And the book needed another comb through by an editor- characters names were switched and other flow mistakes can be found throughout the story. If you want a good Nancy Thayer beach read, skip this one. Read Secrets in Summer or The Guest Cottage instead.
I enjoy reading 'light' books like this occasionally and this one fits the bill very well. The characters are realistic (well - as realistic as characters in a book like this can be) and the setting is so vivid I could smell the ocean air. Of course some of the story is predictable but I was happy to go along for the ride. It's a perfect beach read.
Ballantine Books and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of A Nantucket Wedding. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
This beach read takes place on Nantucket, the perfect backdrop for a wedding. When Alison lost her husband, she never thought she would marry again. David, a handsome and successful businessman, changed all that. Wanting their adult children to meet before the wedding, Alison hosts summer getaways designed to blend their two families together. With a rocky start, will the issues and hurt feelings be enough to put the nuptials in jeopardy?
Every single character in this book has an issue, so the author spends almost the entire time going from one crisis to another. Because of this, the novel never comes together in a meaningful way. The central premise revolves around the wedding and Alison's desire to bring the two families together, but the conflicts between the characters are never fully resolved. I did not come away from the book feeling as though I would remember it later, as the characters and the plot just did not grab my attention. Having read other books by Nancy Thayer, A Nantucket Wedding pales in comparison to some of the previous novels. Readers who are new to the author may want to read some of the author's earlier works, as this book is not representative of her talents in crafting a story and memorable characters.
