Thank you, Netgalley, for this arc!

I am a sucker for anything Maine related, and so this cozy mystery was definitely a fun book to read. I loved all the info about lobstering - all the food scenes were great. I also loved the mix of two cultures - American and Korean - and the hopefulness and creativity in working together for the future. I liked the main character, Anna, but I think I liked Izzy more. The murderer was a surprise, and I enjoy when that happens.

Definitely an author to keep on my radar! "Wicked good!"

This is the first book in a new series, the Maine Murder Mysteries. I'm never sure what to expect when I start a new series, but I really enjoyed this book and look forward to future installments. It's set on Quarry Island, Maine, a place where everyone knows each other "from womb to tomb". That is until a local man is murdered and secrets are exposed for everyone to see.
The main character is Anna, a wife, and mother who discovers she has a long-lost sister named Lizzie. Anna is married to a lobsterman named Burt, and when his brother Carl is found dead Anna and Lizzie start their own investigation.
The writing is great, the characters are interesting and the plot absorbing. I highly recommend this book.

Thanks to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love finding a new cozy series to dig my teeth into. This first book in the series by Cornelia Kidd was terrific. Great story, a fun setting, and good characters come together to create a really enjoyable read. I'd definitely recommend this for cozy fans, and I can't wait to read the next in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this first installment in a new cozy mystery series set on an Island in Maine. The author, under the name Lea Wait, has two other series, the Antique Print series and the Mainely Needlepoint mysteries. I grab every book in these two series as soon as they're published and read them as soon as possible. In short, I figured I'd like this new series and, in fact, I did.

Anna Winslow grew up on Quarry Island, Maine, and now lives there with her husband, Burt, a lobsterman, and her teenage son, Jake. She gets a letter from a half sister she never knew abput. Much of the first part of the book laid out the characters' stories. While important, I thought this part of the book dragged a bit. However, once the other lobsterman's body is found, the story starts to pick up.

There's a great cast of characters and I know the author is a good storyteller. This series has great potential and I'd strongly recommend it to those who like cozies.

Death and a Pot of Chowder is the first in a new series by Cornelia Kidd, aka as Lea Waite.
I was hooked on the story from the beginning.
Anna is a strong character, who is fun and a bit adventurous.

This story began with Anna finding out her biological father passed away and that she has a sister. Anna is speechless but is soon excited to meet her sister. Plans go awry when Anna's brother in law goes missing.

Anna and her sister Izzie are trying to get to know each other, but when Carl, Anna;s brother in law is found dead, murdered actually, things spin out of control.
with Izzie's help, Anna digs deep and finds out some family secrets.

This is a great start to a new series and I cannot wait to read more.
I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book offered by the publisher and NetGalley.

This first in a new series by Maine writer Cornelia Kidd was moody and slightly discouraging in the beginning. I did not find a lot to like about Anna and her life situation. As tension increased over the murder of Anna's brother-in-law I wanted to find out how the book ended to relieve the suspense. I became more invested in the characters and have hope for more that is positive in the future.

Anne Winslow was born and raised on Quarry Island in Maine by her mother, stepfather and her grandmother. Anne married her high school sweetheart Burt, they have a teenage son Jake. Quarry Island is a tight knit community where everybody knows each other. Burt and his brother Carl are lobstermen. Life on Quarry Island is basically the same day in and day out, always has been. One day Anne receives a letter that changes her life forever. Someone new enters into the Winslow’s family and on the day of the arrival, someone close to the Winslow family is murdered. Soon the friends that Anne has known all her life secrets start to come to light. What Anne thought she knew about her family and friends isn’t exactly how they really are.

Cornelia Kidd has written a warm and interesting story of family and community. She takes the story in one direction and once you believe you have figured out whodunnit, the mystery goes a direction you don’t expect for reasons you never would have guessed.

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written, the blurbs at the beginning of each chapter were interesting and fun, and the story takes a turn I never expected. The story is an easy cozy read. I would definitely recommend this book.

Anna Winslow has grown up on Quarry Island, Maine, and loves living there with her husband and teenage son. While she wishes they had a little more money, she is happy with her life. She gets a letter from a sister she never knew she had telling her the father she never met has died and the two have inherited his estate.

Anna goes to Portland to meet her new sister Izzie who is Korean American. Izzie has just graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. While Anna is meeting her, she gets a phone call from her lobsterman husband Burt that he had found his brother Carl's boat but Carl is missing. She and Izzie hurry home and hope that the search for Carl is successful

Unfortunately, when Carl's body is found it is clear that he was murdered and Burt is the prime suspect. After all, they were seen arguing on the pier the morning Carl went missing. Burt's gun, which he usually kept in a fun safe under his bed but hadn't used since the end of the previous hunting season, is missing but when found it is confirmed as the murder weapon.

Anna and Izzie decide to investigate to clear Burt. As they investigate, Anna learns all sorts of secrets about the people who are her neighbors and whom she has know for her whole life. I liked the Maine setting and the close knit group of islanders. I liked how well Izzie fit into the mix and how she helped and supported Anna in this difficult time.

I thought the plot was well-done and nicely complex. I thought the characters were interesting and well-developed. I liked Izzie and Anna's plans for the future after they solve the case and clear Burt.

Death and a Pot of Chowder by Cornelia Kidd is a nicely written cozy mystery set on Quarry Island in Maine, where nothing ever happens......until Anna's heretofore unknown biological father passes away leading to her discovery of her heretofore unknown half-sister, her brother-in-law is presumed lost at sea then discovered murdered, and her dear husband is arrested for the crime! Lots of twists and turns involving family and neighbors, I stayed up past my bedtime to finish this well-crafted mystery! A+
p.s. Recipes included - yay!

A cozy mystery set on an island in Maine. Entertaining but I felt it had too many "set-ups" for the next books in the series so the foundation felt a little forced. All in all it was an enjoyable mystery and I will be reading the next in the series now that the groundwork has been laid.

Perfect example of the cozy mystery genre. Absolutely loved Death and A Pot of Chowder so much that now I need to find every book by her!

Anna Winslow was born and raised on the fishing island of Quarry Island, Maine and the islanders all know each other well. When Anna discovers she has a sister she never knew about, her life life changes in the blink of an eye. But the same day her sister Izzie comes to visit, her brother Carl in law disappears from his fishing boat.

When Anna’s husband Burt is arrested for the murder of his brother, she and Izzie set out to find the police another suspect and determine who really killed Carl.

The author has well developed characters and a solid story line. I could almost smell the salt air as I was reading the story. Looking forward to seeing where life takes Anna and Izzie in future books.

Anna Winslow, with her husband, Burt, and their son, Jake, lived on Querry Island, Maine. Anna’s entire family lived on the same block. Burt and his brother, Carl, are lobsterman. Anna learns that she has a stepsister whom she has never met and they arrange to meet after her father’s death. Anna goes to Portland, Maine to pick up her stepsister, Izzie. While she is gone, they find Carl’s boat abandoned slightly away from the lighthouse. A little later, they find Carl, murdered. Burt’s rifle is the weapon which was used to kill Carl and Burt is arrested. Anna and her new step sister have to work together to find the killer before her husband is jailed while exploring their own new relationship. A fast moving, enjoyable mystery. The insight to the lives of Maine islanders is very interesting. Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this advanced reader’s copy.

First, in a new series, Death and a Pot of Chowder will keep you questioning who done it all the way through the story.

I enjoyed the author’s writing style, characters, and the story setting. I really love the way the author brought Lzzie into the story for Anna and that she and Anna will be building a life together in their new endeavor and I am sure these two will find a lot of trouble in coming books.

As for this story, I really liked the detail the author brought into the story, but for some reason the mystery never grabbed me, it fell flat for me, even though it was very enjoyable. I will be reading the next story, I have a feeling these two ladies are going to be fun to read from here on out.

There are some great recipes in the back!

This was an interesting cozy mystery with plenty of character introduction and development and description of life in Maine. Long lost sisters and long lost love keep this story a lively whodunit. Yummy recipes add a nice touch, but the quirky blurbs from the olden days at the beginning of each chapter made me cringe more often than not.
I read this Netgalley arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very enjoyable book. Loved Anna, the lead character, and all the family surrounding her, including her newly found half-sister. This was a good murder mystery and the pieces fell into place with a few detours along the way. I enjoy a mystery where I'm kept guessing until the end and I definitely did not see this one coming. (I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion which I joyfully submit. I am looking forward to reading another book by this author—actually would love to read a continuation of Anna and her family.)

Death and a Pot of Chowder is is everything that a cozy mystery fan loves. It's got a fantastic set of characters, a picturesque setting that anyone would want to visit, and a whodunit that keeps readers guessing until the very end. I am so glad I stumbled across this author and I can't wait to see the rest of the series progress. I simply cannot get enough!

Death and a Pot of Chowder is the debut of the A Maine Murder Mystery series set on Quarry Island, Maine and featuring Anna Winslow, stay at home Mom. Anna has lived her entire life on Quarry Island, married at a young age to her lobsterman husband Burt, and is now raising her sometimes moody fourteen year old son Jake.

There aren't that many full time residents on Quarry Island and Anna living just a few doors down from her childhood home is surrounded by her mother, grandmother and Burt's brother, Carl. Carl works alongside Burt lobstering and has a reputation as a playboy. When Burt discovers Carl's boat abandoned and floating adrift off the coast, an all out search begins for him. Unfortunately, Carl's body is recovered but what is first thought to be an accidental drowning soon turns into a case of murder.

With her husband seen arguing with Carl earlier that day, Anna is devastated when Burt is arrested for murder. Determined to clear Burt's name, Anna sets out with the help of her recently discovered half sister Izzie to track down the killer. Plenty of suspects surface including Carl's ex girlfriends, but the thing that worries Anna most is that Jake and his best friend Matt Martin are suddenly fighting and acting as though they have something to hide.

A fast paced plot with engaging characters, a touch darker than a typical cozy, but a refreshing change with a heroine that is married and not a part of the dreaded love triangle. The resolution to the murder is shocking and the author pens enough twists that readers will definitely want to pick up the next in the series to see what's next in store for Anna.

I received an advanced copy of Death and a Pot of Chowder from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Books. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.

A layered, engaging mystery! This book is set in my most favorite of mystery locations: Maine. The small, closet-knit island community is the best place for a great whodunit. Main character, Anna, is a wife and mom who's lived her whole life on the same road and has known the island and its citizens her whole life. So who could be better to investigate the death of a family member... especially when her own husband is suspect #1? Add in a new family member that Anna's just learned about, and some background on the primary characters, and there was plenty of meat to this story to keep me reading. The victim, though generally a good person, had flaws, which created several strong suspects as the story went on. There were plenty of clues and twists - both relevant and not - to keep me guessing 'til the very end. I also enjoyed the recipes at the end and how each chapter began with a snipped from old books about housekeeping and cooking. This is the first book I've read by Cornelia Kidd, but I'm already looking forward to reading more!
