I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Last Night’ by Kerry Wilkinson in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
It’s the middle of the night and Rose Denton wakes up in her car in the middle of a field. The last thing she remembers is being in a hotel room, but when she gets out of her car she finds there’s blood on the windscreen and the bonnet. She can’t remember driving into the field let alone hitting a person or even an animal, so how did the blood get there? Rose washes the blood away in the garage but when the police arrive at her house after a reported break-in they find more blood on the garage floor, but Rose thought she’d washed it away! Who is it who’s making Rose doubt her sanity?
‘Last Night’ is a gripping psychological thriller that kept me enthralled. From a slow start the tension increased until I was unable to put it down. There’s lots of action, twists and turns, and a cliffhanger of an ending that was completely unexpected. Another excellent read Kerry, thank you.
I have to say the concept of this book grabbed me, and it got some good Facebook publicity, so was really pleased when I was approved by bookature to read this advanced copy.
Rose Denton wakes up in her car, in the middle of a field with no recollection of how she got there. There is blood on her car, and she is sure she has been drinking! Who’s blood is it? How did she get there? As the story unfolds we get to know a lot about rose Denton - but we just don’t know who is out to get her? Has she hurt daughter Olivia’s missing boyfriend Tyler? Or is someone trying to frame her? You will have to read it to find out! Great read, great twists and I will look out for more by this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book. Rose wakes up in the middle of a field in her car with no recollection how she got there and her car is covered in blood! She arrives home to discover her daughters boyfriend is missing! Is his disappearance connected to her?? And then some mysterious things start happening! Everyone seems to be a suspect!! I would highly recommend it.
Last Night – Kerry Wilkins
I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
Rose Denton is a middle-aged female, in an unhappy marriage and with a rebellious teenage daughter. She works as a software salesperson for a smaller company. She sets out for a meeting at a hotel with a potential client, and next thing she knows, she wakes up in her car, in a field, with blood in spatters all over her car, with no idea as to what has happened, or where she is. She makes it home safely, cleans her vehicle, and begins poring over the news, fearful that she may have harmed someone and doesn’t remember.
Then, other things begin to occur…her work pass goes missing, her husband’s gym pass as well, and then in a furor to find missing car keys, she finds them impossibly placed in the refrigerator. But she’s sure that she put them in the usual places…then she finds a broken window, but there’s nothing significant missing and no other evidence of a break in…are these things malicious, or is she losing her mind??
Meanwhile, Olivia, Rose’s daughter, is unable to find her boyfriend Tyler. After an argument with Rose over money, Tyler is last seen walking down the road, away from the Denton residence, and is now missing.
As Rose questions her own sanity, she also begins to remember things…a handsome man at the motel, a few glasses of wine, a kiss goodnight... As she begins her own investigation into the strange events occurring in her life, she finds some answers, but they only lead to more questions. Who’s working so hard to set her up? Her estranged husband? His seemingly new girlfriend? The missing Tyler? The fresh out of jail Jason? Or is it someone else altogether??
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and found it very hard to put down. While not my typical genre to read, I loved it and will be seeking out more of Kerry Wilkins’ works. If you enjoy psychological suspense, look no further! A great beach read!
Excellent book with a brilliant storyline and great main characters. I would recommend this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very detail oriented but well written in a way that kept my interest throughout. With some books of this genre, it’s easy to figure out the culprit, but this one kept me guessing till the end.. Definately will be recommending this book.
This is the third Kerry Wilkinson book that I have read .... ive enjoyed all three but this was my favourite!!!!!
I was hooked from the first page and I couldn’t put the book down.....I love the humour that she manages to write into her characters.....she makes them so relatable!
I absolutely did not see the end coming....great twist.
Another great read by this Author. Rose Denton has a lot going on in her life. On the verge of separating from her husband. A teenage daughter she doesn't see eye to eye with, whose boyfriend has disappeared again. A job that isn't the greatest. She remembers going to her hotel room (sent on a meeting out of town with a new client). She wakes up in a field in her car which is covered in blood. It is well worth the read to get to the ending. Thank you NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
Thank you to Netgalley, Kerry Wilkinson and Bookouture for my ARC of Last Night.

Review
I really like Kerry's stand-alone novels, I'm yet to read his Jessica Daniels series but the few stand-alone ones I've read have been excellent and Last Night is no different.
Thoroughly gripping I really didn't have a clue what was going on, the only thing I could think is that something surprising from the past was going to jump out at some point but I couldn't imagine what and I wasn't entirely right.
All of the characters seem like they could have something to do with Rose's conundrum I was even suspecting the police at one point! It's a sign of a great thriller writer when they can leave you that utterly confused!
Can things get any worse for Rose Denton? Her marriage to Dan is strained, there always seems to be arguments with her daughter Olivia. Now she's woken up in her car in a field, she sees blood on the windscreen and bumper, but what's happened? The last she remembers is being in a hotel for a business meeting.
The next day Olivia blames her for her boyfriend Tyler going missing. Was it his blood on the car? As Rose tries to get to the bottom of it all there are plenty of shocks being unveiled.
Although I thought it had a slow start it, the pace picked up turning it into a really good thriller. Loved the twist at the end that I didn't see coming. It gets a full five stars from me and I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
I received this arc via NetGalley. This is my honest and unbiased review
Oh I do LOVE Kerry Wilkinson’s writing. A huge fan of the Jessica series I’m always worried the standalones won’t live up to them but again I’m proved wrong. You awake in a field, your car covered in blood. Your marriage is on the rocks, your relationship with your daughter is strained and your work life is in the balance. But who can you trust at your darkest hour? Your soon to be estranged husband, your old ‘boyfriend’, himself just out of prison, or your oldest childhood friend?
Totally gripping, read in one day, you won’t want to put this one down

Brilliant as usual, this author can do no wrong in my eyes, so many twists and turns, I can never tell how the stories will end up
3.5*
I can't believe how quick these books seem to be coming out. I love, love love Kerry Wilkinsons books. The way you are drawn in, and captivated the whole way through the story. Kerry has a fantastic Knack of making you want to read and read and read before you know it your at the end of another book.
This one is another good read. Another one that within hours of downloading it, i'd started to read it. Another book that I didn't even bother reading what it was about, it's by an author I trust to write something i'll enjoy.
This time around the writing felt a little different somehow, I felt it took a little while to get going, and although it interested me, I wasn't gripped as I usually am. It had me wondering all the way through what had actually happened at the beginning and why.
Rose Denton seems to have had a car accident, when she comes to, she's in a field, behind the wheel of her car. There is blood on the windscreen but it's not hers. There are no dead animals around, no people, so what the hell has happened.
Rose doesn't tell anyone about the accident, and can't figure out what has happened.
She also can't figure out why mysterious, odd things keep happening to her.
The only way to find out exactly what was going on was to keep reading. It was an interesting read, with a decent storyline. I really didn't see what was coming towards the end. It ended with a good twist.
3.5* rounded up.
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.
Rose wakes up in her car in the middle of the night, apparently having driven it off the road into a field. There is blood on the windscreen, but no other evidence of damage to the car and no body (animal or human) in the immediate vicinity. All she can remember is being at a hotel after a client failed to show up for a meeting. Rose drives home and hoses down the car. Then more odd things start to happen and Rose does not know whom to trust.
I thought this was well-written and compelling. There was perhaps a stage where the most exciting thing occurring was car keys going missing and things slowed a little, but overall the plot moved forward swiftly. I found it hard to relate to Rose: <spoiler> marriage over, poor relationship with her daughter, no good at her job, a poor friend to Ellie, no other friends or interests/hobbies at all, etc etc - it was all so depressing and distancing. Then too, the way everything related back to events from 20 years ago was a little tiresome and drip fed to the reader.</spoiler>
Still, well-plotted and the red herrings were satisfactorily explained away. The very ending was unnecessary.
