I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
*One Little Lie* by Sam Carrington is a masterfully crafted psychological thriller that drew me in from the very first page. Carrington’s storytelling is packed with suspense and intrigue, and the twisty narrative is a true standout. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, it took an unexpected turn that made the suspense even more thrilling and compelling. The writing skillfully brings the characters and their complex relationships to life, and the plot unfolds in a way that constantly kept me guessing.
The themes of trust, secrets, and deception are interwoven seamlessly, creating a story that’s as thought-provoking as it is gripping. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and I found myself turning pages late into the night. The ending was a complete surprise, wrapping up an intense journey with an unforgettable conclusion. For anyone who loves psychological thrillers that challenge your expectations and keep you hooked, *One Little Lie* is a must-read.
I find this novel an interesting read with some good pieces of food for thought, so to say - because this is a story of extreme loss and the need to fix things, however impossible and intense the process is. There is a mother whose son has been killed. Another mother, whose son is a killer - of said victim. And there is a psychologist who has some information she probably should not use in her work. Also, there is a secret, dark fact which severly influences the whole situation. And you will learn as you go - well, maybe.
While this may be a might heavy read due all of the identities and their thoughts and acts, there is also much you can gain when immersing yourself into the plot. Because there is a motive for acting for all, the good characters as well as the bad ones. It is good to explore and verify them, within yourself, too!
This exciting thriller offers a truly unique viewpoint and is powerfully and sensitively written from a cast of characters who are clearly well-researched. This is refreshing when we seem to see the same concepts again and again and I was desperate to devour this in one thrilling session. Recommend!
This was a good twist story, it definitely had me guessing what was next. I was confused at the beginning but it was worth it at the ends
Alright, folks, let's get real here. I was super excited to dive into this book with all the hype I'd heard, but let me tell you, it left me feeling a bit like a cat chasing a laser pointer - intrigued, but not quite satisfied.
Now, don't get me wrong, the plot was intriguing, and I was enjoying myself, but there was something missing. It was like a sandwich without the filling - a little odd and not quite hitting the spot. There were moments that should've knocked me off my feet, but the way they were written just fell a bit flat, you know?
And that's what it was - the lack of drama. I needed a little more spice, a pinch of excitement to make this book really shine. It's like it had all the ingredients, but they needed a bit of a tweak to make it pop!
Now, don't get me wrong, it's not a bad read by any means. It's like a fine cup of tea - enjoyable, but you're left craving something a little extra. I was hoping for that wow factor, that extra oomph, but alas, it was just shy of greatness.
So, all in all, not a bad read, but I was hoping for a little more pizzazz. It's like a cake without frosting - still tasty, but you can't help but wish for that sweet icing on top. With a little tweak, this book could've been a real showstopper! Three stars, not too shabby!
This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
What a messy, but in a good way, twist of a novel. The storyline is told from multiple POVs which provided so much depth to the plot. I really enjoyed this one.
Sam Carrington expertly captures the relationship between a mother and child when said child commits a crime. Highly recommend. Full of twists! Completely captivating. A must read! Book club worthy.
Omg wow this book is amazing it's full of twists and turns it will keep you up all night I really enjoyed this book
Unfortunately I just could not get into this book. It may be one for other readers, but I was unable to finish it.
I understand that this book has a few characters that were in a previous book, but I think it can definitely be read as a standalone. One Little Lie was slow to start for me, and although there were some compelling twists, I was confused so often that my interest dwindled. I think this book would appeal to readers who love to pick a story apart, and have the patience to see it come together again.
2 stars
First time I have read a book by Sam and it definitely won't be the last! Kept me gripped from start to end and on the edge of my seat.
Not exactly awful but really slow in a lot of places. Kinda generic and unoriginal. Not everyone will like this book but some will love it. Very marmite.
This book kept me guessing from the first word. I didn't know who to believe or what to think. It was devoured in one go.
Deborah's son was murdered 4 years ago. Alice's son is in prison for the crime and driven by a need for redemption she has started a support group for parents with troubled children. She is also convinced that meeting Deborah will help both of them come to terms with what has happened.
I normally love Sam Carrington's work but I didn’t really enjoy this book. Mostly because of the flitting back and forward of the numerous characters. I much prefer a story that follows through & I also dislike authors writing in the 3rd person. Sorry - this one wasn’t for me.
Thanks to Avon Books UK for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
i wanted to love this book. The premise sounded very interesting, but it just wasn't for me. I felt somewhat confused with the back and forth of the characters and I actually had to take notes to remember who was who in the beginning. Too much of the book was slow moving for me.
I do wish you success with it and Im sorry that it was not for me.
Thank you #NetGalley, the author and the publisher for my opportunity to read this.
Psychologist Connie's patient, Alice Mann has a son who is a murderer. Alice's son killed Deborah's son and is desperate for her forgiveness. Connie wants Alice to leave it all alone and to not get involved with Deborah, however, in an effort to redeem herself, Alice starts up a support group for the parents of murderers, but there's one little lie she's told which is about to snowball out of control.
Tension grows between Alice and Deborah and a young girl goes missing. Soon the police are suspecting not only foul play, but that maybe the wrong person was locked up for Deborah's son's murder and still out there.
After a slow start (there are several characters and it does jump around a bit) I found the twists and turns of this story really had me on edge. At times I felt I was walking on eggshells around Alice and Deb, just waiting for it all to explode. In my minds eye I can see this as a really good film or BBC drama!
Incidentally, this carries on from Bad Sister, featuring the same psychologist Connie, and DI Lindsay Wade, but can easily be read as a standalone story.
This is cleverly written so when you reach the end of each chapter, you'll not want to stop!
This was phenomenal! As the mom of a boy, I instantly connected with it.
The subject matter deals with depression, loss, and a heinous crime that begs the question : what if it was your son that was the victim? What if he was the killer? Why would he do this?
You get to see it from the poin of view of two mothers: one the mother of the victim and the other the mother of the accused.
This book really was engrossing from start to finish. The writing was good and I emotionally connected with all the characters. A must read.
Having read the author’s previous book I was delighted to see that she had a new release and was keen to get started on it as soon as it landed on my Kindle.
The book has some great characters, they are very well developed and they were perfect for the plot. I was gripped by the story from the first few pages and I read the book in the same afternoon. The plot had just the right amount of detail to keep me hooked.
Five stars from me for this one – a highly addictive and thoroughly enjoyable read – definitely one I will be recommending!!
