I really enjoyed this book, there was just something different about it that drew you in to the story.
Lana is a writer. After her best seller came out she is struggling with her follow up book. In the pub she meets Jack and soon after his step-mum Nancy, who used to be a writer herself, but is now struggling with dementia.
Great supporting characters in the writing group as well.
Highly recommend reading this book.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary review
Solid chick lit…doesn’t take itself too seriously! You’ll laugh, cry, and say “Oh! No!” Definitely a fun weekend read :c)
I normally don't read books that are considered "romance" or "chick-lit," but this one sounded pretty good. After a bestselling book that fictionalized her romance with Mark, Lana is suddenly dumped and broke. She meets Jack, whose stepmother Nancy is a bit of a loose cannon with dementia, and she ends up moving in with Nancy while Jack takes her on fake dates in order to be the hero in her new book. Of course, Mark shows up back on the scene as she and Jack get close. Nancy was the part of the story that made this more my type of book. She was unpredictable and funny, and her story made it more than "just" a romance novel. I enjoyed this more than I expected to, and I'd give it 4 stars.
Now this is a horrible disease, and part of the reason I requested this book. Anyone who has come across anyone with this, is bound to have strong feelings for this book.
I found the characters endearing and all in all a lovely book to read!
Thank you Netgalley for letting me review this book!
The writing was a little strange here and how many times can the word fillip be used in one book? Apparently a lot.
Overlooking the strange writing I really enjoyed reading this book. Nancy was a very realistic character and I found it easy to empathize with Lana's feelings for her.
Not exactly a feel good book but also not a weepie.
Lana's whirlwind romance was immortalized in a popular love story. Her fans, and editor, are asking her "What's next?"
The truth is that she is lonely and bitter after being abandoned. But that will not sell books. A random meeting with Jack breaks her out of her routine. She enjoys their non-dates. She is just trying to find a hero for her next book.
Lana has to downsize if she wants to eat.....leaving her homeless. She takes a job teaching writing and finds a place to live as a companion of Jacks stepmother.
Great interactions and characters. I enjoyed Lanas story.
