This book is honest and no nonsense. From the drama club to shaving her toes I feel like Rachel is speaking directly to me at times. How many times have I started something and given up four days later? I loved that each chapter started with a lie and ended with the tips of things that helped her overcome that lie. I love the chapter about dreams and not accepting the “no’s” in life. If you’re overly sensitive, this book probably isn’t for you, but I really appreciated her honesty and the fact that she shared very hard stories. The chapter on sex was so brave and something many women, including myself needed to hear. This is real life. I usually take a while to read nonfiction books, but I could not put this one down and finished it in 24 hours.

I really can't get on with this book - I really wanted to like it but I found it far too smug an preach-y. As an atheist I also found the frequent references to Christianity really off-putting, but that's just personal preference. I've read so many amazing self-help books that are inspiring and motivating but I found this as neither, it read a little "I am amazing and this is how you can be like me" and I just don't get on with that as a concept.

It was hard for me to enjoy this book.

At some points, this book spoke to me and I could compare my fears and anxiety with some of Rachel's but quite often I found that a lot of Rachel's problems were white privileged dilemmas I couldn't relate too.
Before this book, I was completely unaware of who Rachel Hollis was.
A lot of bragging was done here. I am sure it was meant to be motivational but I didn't take it that way. Okay, we get it you are a lifestyle guru, a motivational speaker, blah blah blah. So is everyone else in California, give me a break.

She bashes her husband’s behavior prior to them being married and I honestly don’t think it was necessary to add to her book. I am sure her husband was hiding when he read this.

Her timeline’s were messy and aggravating.

Religion is talked about quite frequently in this book which made me uncomfortable because I am not religious and do not share the same beliefs.

I spent a lot of time passing through her mommy talk, while I am sure a lot of mothers can relate to these struggles, these are not conflicts I have of my own.

*Note to self* Stop reading self-help books based on people you have no prior knowledge of it doesn’t ever end up well.

I started following Rachel a few years ago after stumbling upon her on social media...and then I was like WHERE HAS SHE BEEN ALL MY LIFE? Rachell is the cheerleader we all need in our lives. Scratch that, she is the cheerleader with wisdom, knowledge, humor, relatability, motivation, and heart who makes you want to be a better person!
The title says it all...and Rach lays it ALL out there. She tackles, one by one, the lies she has told herself (or others have told her) over the years and says: NOPE!
What makes this book so incredible is that the lies SHE has told herself, WE (women) have told ourselves. "I am not a good mom" and "I will never get past this" and "I am not good enough." There is a little bit of all of us in this book and the more you read the more you learn, these lies have no true purpose other than holding us back from being our very best selves.
Rachel breaks each lie down, one by one, chapter by chapter, of what is holding you back AND what the heck you can do to get through to the other side. She has experienced great loss, unthinkable pain, lowest of lows but she refuses to let it define her or stop her from going after what she wants. Through this book, you learn it does not have to define you either.
"Girl, Wash Your Face" more than just "a book", it's an experience. I can honestly say it has changed my thought process and in turn, my life and for that, I am very grateful. I can not recommend this book enough- I really believe it will make such a possible impact on anyone who picks it up. Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel Hollis and Harper Collins for a copy this exquisite book.

This is the book of my girlfriends have been talking about this past summer. Full of great advice and thoughts to ponder, I found Rachel Hollis refreshing and I enjoyed her style. I really enjoyed the format, as well as the advice on things I don't often think about! Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was really excited to read this book as I had heard so much about it and the title seemed like it was right up my alley. Rachel Hollis had been everywhere lately with her movie, blog, books.

As I started reading this book, I really enjoyed her honesty and very real conversation. It was as if she was saying many of the things thatch had thought on so many occasions. I could totally relate as I am that Mom who tries to do everything and in the end neglects myself and feels guilty about not doing enough for others.

While some of the points Rachel brings up in her book I agree with, I started to find it a little redundant about halfway through and as well as somewhat "therapist like" instead of friends having a chat over wine at girls night out.

I really wanted to enjoy this book 100%, but in the end I didn't as much as I hoped I would.

Enjoyed the title and the raw vulnerability the author displayed. Have recommended it many times! Loved the real-life perspective and the informal writing style.

I’ll be honest: I am not one for self-help books. After my sister read this one, she called me and told me I “just had to read it.” So I listened to her.

Each chapter addresses a lie we tell ourselves; such as Something Else Will Make Me Happy, I’ll Start Tomorrow, I’m Better Than You, I Should be Further Along by Now, and There’s Only One Right Way to Be.

I related to a few of the stories and some I did not, but I didn’t skip those sections. Here’s why: the stories offered perspective. Although I might not relate, I still had something to learn by listening to what someone else may be going through.

The messaging isn’t profound; its stuff we already know, but need to be reminded of. The messaging’s strong suit is that it offers you time for reflection.

It’s a quick read, and I recommend you dive in and experience what the buzz is all about.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the book:

Lie: No is the Final Answer
You are a warrior because of the trials you are going through, but don’t you dare squander the strength you have earned just because the acquisition of it was painful."

Lie: I Should Be Further Along by Now
“When you force yourself to admit to all the things you have accomplished, you’ll realize that it’s wrong to be so hard on yourself for all the things you haven’t.”

Lie: I Can’t Tell the Truth
“I want you to see someone who kept showing up again and again, even when it was tearing her apart.”

It was neither mind-blowing nor boring. It was somewhere in the middle. The advice isn't brain surgery, and her stories could get a little long-winded, but it was an enjoyable book all the same. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC!

Rachel Hollis has a way with words that will make your totally chaotic life seem to be the new norm. All those crazy feelings that you are ashamed to have, those crazy emotions keeping you up at night, and those strange questions that you are too embarrassed to ask are all addressed in this book. Great book to read if you need a “pick me up” from the everyday hustle and bustle. Rachel lays it all out there on some very touchy topics, and she is able to add humor to the uncomfortable subjects, making this book fun to read.

This was such an awesome read. I kept hearing good things about this book and seeing as we kept selling out of it at work I was excited to be able to get a copy though Netgalley to see what all the talk was about. There were so many powerful points throughout each chapter and so many things that I was able to takeaway from reading this. There were certain chapters that I did not think I would enjoy due to what they were about but even during these particular ones there were still messages that stood out to me and were relevant in my life in one way or another. I would definitely recommend this one and look forward to reading her other stuff. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this in exchange for a review.

Girl, Wash Your Face was exactly what I needed. I was in a place where I felt stuck, and I really didn't know how to get out of it. I picked up this book and then literally cried through the first six chapters (okay, and maybe a few more times after that). Rachel Hollis has a no-nonsense way of speaking right to you, urging you to stop being stuck and get up and do something! This isn't a "push everyone out the way to do you" sort of book, but she tackles all the excuses that WE women give OURSELVES to keep us from pushing through spiritually, emotionally and physically. We often are our own worst enemy, and Rachel points this out gently several times, while giving practical advice for moving forward.

While I do think that this book lacks a little spiritual meat, I don't know if I could have digested it if she would have just thrown a bunch of scripture at me. Instead, it was like a friend wrote me a letter of admonishment and encouragement, and it was just what I (and apparently millions of other women) needed to hear.

Thank you to my friends at NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Loved this book! Read the print version for part of the book but then also listened to the audiobook. Loved that the audio version was narrated by the author. That makes me likely to get the audio version on her next book. Appreciated her straightforwardness and the fact that it seemed like she wasn’t holding anything back. Such a motivator! Must read.

A solid 4 stars!

While I am not one for self help/motivational books I thoroughly enjoyed how true and raw Rachel's life experiences are and how relate-able she is. Back in 2007 I read a self help book that Oprah recommended and it made me so mad that I threw it across the room and never finished reading it. It felt fake and like the person who wrote it had no insight on what it is like to lose someone you love unexpectedly or even to sickness or old age and have to pick up the pieces and continue on with your life. Sorry off topic, but Rachel's experience with death and life in general were so true and so refreshing to read. She doesn't sugar coat it. She tells it how it is and it sparks honest within the readers. You can look at yourself in the mirror everyday and lie to yourself or you can take a truth and build upon it while making small positive changes in your life. I can't wait to read her next book Girl, Stop Apologizing.

Although I had a copy of the book, I ended up listening to the audio version. It was an enjoyable, light listen that did not hold my complete attention. I enjoyed her stories and ramblings but nothing really stuck with me. It was fine.

I had heard so many good things about this book that when I was given a free copy of it, I was super excited. Now, as an avid reader of self-help books, I've read some pretty great stuff and some pretty not great stuff. This one, unfortunately, fell into the category of the latter. I was sadly disappointed with the meat of this book because it didn't give me any new or great ideas. No inspiration. No nothing. The only thing it did do is remind me that Disney has races that people can sign up to run. Cool. I had forgotten I wanted to do that. Other than that, it really should be an autobiography instead of a self-help book. Rachel is cute and witty and yes, I did find the part about her peeing in her pants a little funny but really when you strip away all the cute and witty there is not too much left. It's a story about things she messed up on in life and things that didn't go so great until one day they did. And you can do it too! You Can Do It!!! The end. No, really. The end. I would have liked few more life tips and tricks instead of a cheerleader telling me to go wash my face.

There were some really great, powerful parts of this book that made me think about life. I was really able to extract some of her comments about friendship and use them to my advantage. They will be stuck in my head for a while!

The author has a funny, effortless way of writing, which made it a really quick and easy read. It was exactly what I needed after reading a bunch of thrillers. Her advice is spot on and often made me feel like I was reading about my own life. My only issue is that I wish that this had been around years ago. As a 30-something woman, married with kids, I feel like I am not her target audience. Although I’m able to take a lot away from this book, I truly feel it would help more people, and have a wider reach, for college-aged readers. I still happily give it 4 stars and look forward to more from this author. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Girl Wash Your Face is the most inspirational, kick-you-in-the-butt, personal development book I have read since Glennon Doyle's Carry on Warrior. Hollis writes like she is your best friend. She gets inside your mind and addresses all the lies that your personal critic allows to control your life. She encourages you to take back control of your life and preaches that we are all made for more. I highly recommend this book as it is the best non-fiction book I have read this year. I cannot wait for the follow up book. Rachel Hollis is changing lives!

Heard great things about his book all over the place, but was a bit disappointed. It was written very casually, which definitely makes it accessible, but felt a bit underbaked to me. The end of chapters often felt cut off and thought lines sometimes seemed out of place or unfinished. All that being said, her advice was excellent and clearly well founded, and it’s still a worthwhile read. Good for women in any stage of life, and truly motivational.

What an amazing read! This book will have you laughing, crying, thinking and wondering. It's full of inspiration and thought provoking questions. Rachel even provides an amazing study guide that goes along with the book which makes you as the reader think more deeply. You won't get anything out of this book if you just read or skim through it.

You need to dig deep within yourself and question who you are, what your goals are, where you want to be in the future and who you want to project yourself as now.

Rachel shares laugh out loud stories about Matt Damon, she shares stories of the most horrible time in her life but in the end, she did it! She made something of herself.

This book is truly uplifting and with have you thinking through out and for years to come.
