Really enjoyed this! Rachel has a way of being honest, vulnerable, and that girlfriend who is going to tell you like it is! Remind you of what you can do!

I will admit that I was on the fence about this book. I had heard so many amazing things and nearly gotten a copy so many times and let me just say I will be purchasing my own physical copy of this book!

This book is AMAZING and something all women, both young and old, should read! Although it is more directed towards mothers and wives in some chapters, the takeaway can be for anyone. The way this book was written is for both married or single, old and young, as the chapters all have their own point. For example, I did start to read the chapters directed towards motherhood but found I just couldn't relate so I skipped them but the nice thing about this book and some of the chapters is simply this: If it doesn't apply to you it's made in a way that you can either read it or just move on without missing crucial information or points!

Right from the start I knew this book was going to be amazing. How? Well I encountered a quote like this in the opening letter:

"The truth? You, and only you, are ultimately responsible for who you become and how happy you are. That's the takeaway."

I just love that! Getting right to the point before the book has officially started! The way Hollis has structured the book and the chapters is brilliant! I love the whole approach of 'here is a struggle that I, and many other women, have but this is how to deal with it!' and at the end of each chapter she provides ways that helped her or would have helped her in these moments in her life!

I enjoyed this book. It was enlightening and full of useful reminders to brighten our lives. Hollis is great and tells her personal story in an engaging way.

I really liked the format of this book and it is definitely one of the more motivating I've read in this genre. Her story is definitely inspiring and I like that she wrote this book from a place of vulnerability. I don't always have the attention span for these self-help motivational books despite loving the concept behind them, but this one really held my interest (and it was relatively short and to the point, which was a huge bonus). It has Christian aspects to it (which I never mind, being religious myself), but not in an overbearing sense at all. I really think any woman would get a lot out of reading this though there are several chapters focused on the grind of motherhood (which I loved).

I appreciate the advice and stories Hollis shares. Though much of the content did not apply to me, so it was hard for me to relate. A lot of the book is her personal stories and for females in specific situations, not just general advice. In all, there is positivity to her writing, though.

not at all what I expected but a very worthwhile read. This goes way deeper than most self-help/positivity/motivational books I have read - there are some very heavy moments and its not always easy to read, but ultimately its very inspiring and quite fascinating - Rachel has really had a wide span of experiences and seems like a geniune and lovely lady. There are many many references to God and the bible but didn't bother me.

I wish I had loved it, but it lacked something for me.
I think it must have been the fact I've no husband, no kids, and a lot of the book centered around all that. So the book itself was really good, I just couldn't relate to it all.

Hollister takes readers into her life and encourages all women to be proactive with their lives! It's a great, quick nonfiction read that all will be able to take something away from.

This is wonderfully honest memoir from a women who has shaped modern internet culture and in this she shines a light on many of the misconceptions and lies that we allow to fog our mines and prevent us from living our best lives. This book fits in well with the current modern trend of essay collections and memoirs as opposed to traditional biographies but is also stands out as unique to the author's voice and her laying herself bare.

Girl, wash your face is a G-R-E-A-T book. Lots of great advice. Rachael Hollis holds nothing back. You will get a front seat view into her life. EVERY girl, young or old, must read this. You will only come out with great info. Happy reading!! :)

This book was warm, funny and inspiring (aka. everything I needed in a book). I had a smile on my face the entire time and could never bring myself to put it down!

First, I didn't finish the book. I was very close to the end, but by then I had skipped some chapters; specifically when it came to raising children (as mine are already raised). However, I do feel I read enough to write a bit of a review.

I'm not big on hearing that "your faith in God" is part of the path to happiness. I don't think that faith plays a part in helping a person deal with stress from (for example) work and your issues there. Bill paying and having money to pay those bills. Trying to find love (which is kind of addressed in the book).

Further, I don't think I'm the audience for this book. I'm 49 and single with grown children. This seems geared to those who love "mommy blogs" and who are still raising children. I'm more into inspirational type blogs or authors (for instance, Brene Brown).

She is a great writer and does well on her personal stories, so reading the book itself was not difficult. I simply could not relate to many of the instances and situations in this book at this point in my life.

Let me start by saying that I have not heard or read about the author before I picked the book, and I did that only because of the hype it created in the blogosphere.

In Girl, Wash Your Face, Rachel talks about how the lies we tell ourselves hold us back and takes us through her own grief and trauma. ‘Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business’ is a quote we should all remember to tell ourselves. #GirlWashYourFace

I liked Rachel’s simple and no nonsense approach to the subject and her enthusiastic writing. And I never felt I was reading a memoir or a self book, the whole book gave a feeling like I was reading a blog and getting to know the blogger slowly and personally.

The author doesn’t offer great advices or groundbreaking insights, yet I am glad this was my first book of the year. Yes it was inspirational as it was supposed to be, but this is more of a ‘things that worked for me’ kinda list so take it with a grain of salt.

Final thought: Cheerful and motivational. Take it with a grain of salt.

Recommended to: Twenty something women entrepreneurs especially in a non traditional job.

Warning: May come off as spiritual and religious tone.

Rachel Hollis's book "Girl, Wash Your Face" is just the book I needed to start 2019 . It's one of those books that made me think about my life, the things I do, and it was a highly entertaining read!

A few months ago, I heard about 'The Last 90 Days' on social media. I read up on it, and was inspired to make changes to my life RIGHT NOW and not wait until the first of the year. I started waking up earlier, drinking more water, going to the gym, and most importantly, I started a gratitude journal. It changed my perspective on a lot of things I take for granted. I started following Rachel Hollis. I love her upbeat personality and she shared a lot of great tips and advice. When I got the opportunity to read this book, I jumped on it.

Each chapter is about a lie we're told, or we've learned to tell ourselves. The chapter expands on how to beat the negative crap and change your life FOR YOU! It's a motivating read that made me want to go out and conquer the world- or at least my own life! I found Rachel's stories inspiring. This book challenged me to be better, but also not to be so hard on myself when I fail. Laced with humor, relatable stories, and ideas that will resonate and help most of us, I recommend this book to all women seeking change and acceptance. It's a must read!

It was enjoyable! However, I realize I am her Target demographic: a straight, white, middle class, Christian female. My mind struggled between really enjoying the book and the advice, and this on how this book has privileged written all over it.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis was an alright read. i loved their time transparency and honesty. I love when someone shares their story and keeps it real I do feel like this is best to be gauged towards a younger crowd and or new mothers. Younger crowd meaning 30 something and below in age. I think that age group could benefit. At 41 I’ve heard most of all of it before. No real new ground covered.

“Beating ourselves up about all the things we think we’re doing wrong becomes a litany of white noise.” 🙌🏼 This is one of MANY sections I highlighted while reading Girl, Wash Your Face. I connected with Rachel Hollis on so many levels while reading this. Her words spoke to me and filled me to the brim with encouragement, leaving me fired up for the new year! She is honest, raw, real, and authentic in her pursuit to put women on the path to peace and get off of the comparison wagon. She reveals lies that women often tell themselves and gives practical, tried and true strategies to overcome them and become the woman God intended. I absolutely love her passion and desire to fire women up to be their best selves. This is a book I will come back to again and again in my pursuit to be my best self. For me, Girl Wash Your Face was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars. Thank you @thomasnelson for the free copy in exchange for my honest review.

I'll be honest - I had never heard of Rachel Hollis before seeing this book on Goodreads, but the cover appealed to me and so did the description - Stop Believing the Lies About Who you Are so you Can Become Who You were Meant to be! Don't we all hear those lies about why we can't/shouldn't/won't be or become who we want? Either from outside sources or from our own discouraging words? The advice from Rachel isn't mindblowing or always that original, but it is refreshing to hear it from someone who seems to have it all together. To know that someone who appears on the outside has the same doubts about her abilities that we all do. Because she looks like that mom who would make all the rest of us feel bad about ourselves, but then she admits to peeing on herself or not really liking sporting events, so we can all like her a little more.

I read this as a "buddy read" - a friend of mine and I read a chapter or two a day, then discussed online, and it was great this way. I think this book is perfect for a book club or buddy read and will recommend it.

However, I will say that the copy I received from Netgalley was very hard to read. It had "Copyrighted Material" or "Do Not Duplicate" on every page, in the middle of sentences, and some sentences were out of order or actually missing words.

With so many people gushing over this book, I requested and received a Netgalley copy. (Thank you!). I was not quite as impressed with it as those in my circle. The author’s style is very conversational so it was entertaining and easy to read. She’s also hilarious, making it more enjoyable. The content, however, was pretty basic women’s self-help, focused on changing your perspective. Her humor and style bumps my three stars up to 3.5.
