This book is the testament to new is not necessarily better. These quilts from the 1800’s through the the 1900’s are more interesting, unique and gorgeous than most anything you can find today. This could definitely be a coffee table book with crisp clear pictures a plenty.. Packed with quilt after quilt that I would never have gotten the chance to see. Just lovely.

The book has lovely pictures of a mulitude of handmade quilts. Divided into clear setions it explanes how the different cultures and local surroundings effect the designs and colour combinations . The work that has gone into the making of these beatiful quilts is truly amazing. At a time when more of us are trying to make - do and mend and up cycle other people unwanted stuff, This book shows how others have utilised even the smallest scrapes of material to produce a beautiful and useful items.
I've given it three star, only because it doesn't clearly show how the 'quilting' part of making a quilt was done. After the 'patchwork'. My grandmother told me her grandmother used a large frame to finish using what she called a 'picking out stitch'.
I've already sort out some bits of material to make a cushion, just one square big, but which square to choose?
