I have always enjoyed reading books by Kylie Scott and Chaser was no different.

Chaser was a fun, sexy and entertaining read. It is an easy read, meaning not a lot of angst in this story. Which I find a refreshing change of pace once and awhile.

Chaser is the third book in Kylie’s Dive Bar Series. It can be read as a complete standalone and can be read in any order. I don’t feel reading this series out of order would ruin the enjoyment of the stories. This story is told solely from Eric’s POV, which I think is a good way of telling this story. Since the main focus in this book is on Eric’s growth and being a better person, I felt this story could only be told through his eyes. I thought the flow and pace of the story was spot on. I didn’t feel anything dragged on and nothing was rushed. This is truly a slow burn!! But it worked for this couple because each of the characters needed to grow before finding love.

Chaser is about Eric (Joe’s brother and co-owner of the Dive Bar) and Jean. Eric is known to his friends and family as a player and not one to settle down. That is until he meets Jean. Jean is new to town and trying to get settled in. Eric has his eyes on Jean until he sees that she didn’t move into town alone. Jean is very pregnant. So setting his sites on Jean has changed but he is determined to be Jean’s friend and help her along the way. He is also determined to prove his friends and family that he isn’t all about the love em and leave em way. Over the course of the story we watch Jean and Eric form the sweetest friendship. He also bonds with Ada (Jean’s newborn daughter) I loved watching him grow and become the man he wanted to be. I thought the connection between Jean and Eric was relatable and perfect!!!

We do see other couples from the other books in this story as well as other side characters. I loved catching up with other couples in this story. I do have to say I really didn’t like Nell in this story. For being someone’s friend she was pretty cruel to Eric at times and I wanted to smack her, but I was glad to see things sort of changed by the end.

So if you are a fan of Kylie Scott’s books or are just looking for that fun and entertaining read, then you should read this book.

I loved this story of Eric the bad boy that wasn't all that bad.  The growth of his character throughout the book really made it great.  He faced some odds, especially from his "friends" but, his resilience and positive attitude never seemed to waiver.  Jean was sweet and mature for such a young woman.  Her strength of character really endured her to me.

My absolute favorite part of this book hands down was the interaction between Eric and Ada.  I love when kids are written into stories but, I hate when they are more an afterthought or just there as a plot twist.  When it's written right they can be the shinning stars in the book.  Kyle one hundred percent wrote it right.  Ada was the focal point of this book, she had personality, and really carried the storyline.  When her and Eric were together it was pure beauty.

This book had it's fair share of ups and downs but, they were all true to life issues.  There was no angst or over the top eye-roll moments for me it was just a well written storyline that flowed from start to finish.

I'm one of those people who read series out of order so this is the first book in the series I have read but, it was so well done that I will absolutely be going back to read the first two, and soon.

Eric is the bad boy brother of Joe from the last book in The Dive Bar series. He's arrogant, hot, and can't seem to keep it in his pants. That is, until Jean walks into his bar and it's pretty much insta-lust on Eric's end, at least until he realizes Jean is pregnant.

Eric was not really a likeable character in the first two books in this series. He does get more fleshed out in this book and we find out what's going on in his pretty head. We find out that he is honest, loyal, and smarter than he first seemed. He won me over and I fell in love with his sense of humor. The story was told from Eric's point of view, which was also different from the other books.

Eric and Jean left me equal parts swooning and laughing and I loved getting to know this couple!

You know, I wasn't sure if I'd like Eric after the previous books in this series because he always seemed dickish. But after reading Chaser, I'll give him some credit. He's definitely got the sweetest heart of the bunch, and he's not nefarious or an ass like I thought he might be. If anything, he was just a bit aimless and shallow. He needed something other than himself to focus on which came in the form of Jean and then Jean + Ada.

Over the course of their friendship. Friends with benefits. Denials of feelings. Acknowledging of feelings, Eric went from a guy who was so funny and awkward around women to this really funny, sweet, less awkward version of himself. And while we never get Jean's take on his transformation, I definitely got the impression that she thought he was so much more than Nell ever wanted to give him credit for. I could sense her amusement, adoration, and appreciation on every page.

Another fun Kylie Scott novel--a really great mix of lighthearted fun and sweet romance that blends friends to lovers and single parent tropes into a great read. Here's to hoping Andre rounds out this series?!?!

I have been a fan of Kylie Scott since I discovered her Stage Dive series. And, although this is a spin off, it's nothing like it. The Dive Bar series is a little lighter with a different kind of emotion.

Eric and Jean were great together. Their banter was fantastic and I love the way Eric accepts Jean as part of the "family" right away. Despite the obstacles that they face, he steps up to be her friend and protector. I loved all the characters and I enjoyed seeing some old friends. If you've read the previous books, you've met Nell. And while she isn't a main character in this book she is around quite a bit and did not love her in this one. In fact, I found her to be slap worthy. She was not at all likable, and I don't think she was meant to be. She tried to redeem herself in the end but it was too little too late for me.

The story flowed pretty well and there was little to no drama, but something was off for me. I can't really put my finger on what it was but for some reason I didn't love it as much as I had hoped. I found myself at times trying to rush the story along and I don't remember ever having that feeling with Kylie Scott before. Having said that, I am looking forward to the next book and remain a big fan of this author.

This book was brilliant, I didnt expect to like it as much as I did. I frankly found Eric to be a self absorbed, womanizing arsehole but how wrong could I be. Yes Eric a great looking man and has a gift of the gab with the ladies but Chaser sees him hit a wall and its in the shape of 2 little ladies.

When Jean walks into Dive Bar you dont expect to her to knock Eric's socks off but that is exactly what she does. This story is fraught with troubles and people interfering but when trouble strikes in a screaming bundle of joy called Ada. Eric steps up and knocks the world around him on their arses. This was when I truly fell in love with Eric.

This book is in much the same vein as the other books and the supporting casts input is just as important in the way this book goes. There is a hell of a lot of shouting. Interfering and judging in this book and I kind of feel for Eric if I am honest. I am so pleased that Jean stands up for him. The pair of them spend the majority of this book in a state of denial. Which makes for a great read.

I laughed and smiled heaps through this book, Stage Dive Again make a great cameo. This book is fantastic and a huge recommend from me.

(Review as it will be seen on my blog on release week)

Oh my Oh my... This was so sweet. I was not expecting that on a book on immature and self-absorbed Eric! 🤣

And so this was slightly different than I was expecting...in a good way of-course.

I am very much in love with Kylie Scott's writing (as you all know by now). I love the sassy characters, the funny stories, the romance, the beautiful friendships...

Chaser was different in the sense that the humour was not as present as in the other books; and although all our beloved characters (including the Stage Dive members) make an appearance, it is mostly focused on Eric, there was a little less of the other bar members than usual (or that is how I felt anyway). That was not a bad thing at all though, I have zero complaints. It was another masterpiece by Kylie Scott!

Here is the blurb for you guys:

Given his well-earned bad boy reputation, Eric is having a tough time scoring. When single Jean moves to town, she seems heaven sent by the sex gods. Only problem is, she not only wants nothing to do with him, but it turns out that she's pregnant.

Starting over in a small town, Jean is determined to turn her wild lifestyle around and be the kind of mother she always wished she'd had. Since local bar owner and all round hottie, Eric Collins, is now determined to steer clear of her pregnant self, it should be easy. When she goes into labour during a snow storm and her car slides on some ice, it's Eric who comes to the rescue.

There seems to be a bond between them now, but is it enough? And can Eric give up his manwhore ways to be the man Jean needs?

Jean was an easy to like main character, though I felt Eric had a stronger page presence than she did. We didn't get to know much of her, enough to like her, not enough to love her.

Eric on the other hand...

Boy that man went through some amazing character growth through the story. It was impressive and really well written. At the beginning his friends are giving him a hard time for being unreliable and irresponsible, and the way he goes about trying to prove them wrong is both funny and face-palm worthy. I had to laugh.

His growth didn't happen overnight, it happened slowly and without him even noticing it was happening. He transformed from bad boy manwhore to the most caring and loving guy in the whole series. He starts putting Jean and the baby ahead of his own feelings without even having to think about it, naturally and willingly. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!

I dare you not to fall in love with him! Go on...try! 😉

Chaser was fantastic, the story was brilliant and the characters unique! If you have read this series before, you have already met Eric!I was so excited to read his book and see what Kylie has for him. Chaser is a romantic, sweet and funny story!

description

Kylie Scott did an amazing job with this one and especially with Eric's POV since the book is all in his point of view!I loved that Eric in the end he isn't the manwhore that everyone think! I loved that he grows up through the story! We can see how sweet, funny and lovely hero he is!The only reason this isn't a 5 stars is because the heroine wasn't as strong as I like my heroines in books but still this didn't make me not to enjoy the book!

Overall, it was a heartwarming story with one of the best male POVs I have ever read! This series is a must read you should definitely read them!

Yes, yes, Yes!!!!

I’ve had a secret love for Eric for a while now. Yes, he’s the womanizer, he gets around and he stays far away from relationships. But come on... he’s hot, suave and extremely sexy. But all bets are off when a gorgeous woman moves down the hall.... a very pregnant gorgeous woman.

With no support from her family a very pregnant Jean leaves a very sunny Florida to start over. What she finds is much more than she expected, she found true friends and a new family.

Eric and Jean are wonderful together. Jean is a great character, even though she is strong she isn’t afraid to take help when needed. She fits right in with everyone and it’s like she always belonged there. I was so excited to get Eric’s story and it doesn’t disappoint, in fact it’s been my favorite so far. This is truly a great read and great series.

If you have read this series before, you have met Eric. I mean what's not to love?! The Eric Bubble must be a great place to live!

Just for an example, he has met this girl for 2 seconds and already decided she will be his girlfriend. 'I wanted to have sex with Jean. And be the one to listen to her talk and get to eat with her, etcetera (insert boring boyfriend stuff here).'

Boy does he get a shock. Enter baby bump!!!!

The story just flowed, so easy and enjoyable to read. Before I knew it I was at 64% and I was totally #TeamEric! This was a funny, beautiful addition to the series.

PS Caroline and her baby advice was spot on. Caroline's are so resourceful!

PPS Mal! Yes!

4.5 STARS

I have a love affair with Kylie Scott's writing. Her characters have this humorous, self-deprecating voice that just chimes with me. In Chaser we finally get Eric's story, who is Joe's brother, male main character of Twist. Back when I read Joe's book I was curious how the author will make me love the immature, self-absorbed man-ho Eric was portrayed as. I'm happy to report that Kylie Scott passed with flying colors.

Eric's friends have been really hard on him lately, telling him that he is irresponsible, unreliable and doesn't have anything else but women on his mind. The one person who harps on about his devil-may-care attitude is Nell, the woman he almost had a baby with. Not being taken seriously gets to him and he starts to look for ways to change the image his closest friends seem to have of him and it doesn't only have to do with the young single and very pregnant woman who just moved to Coer d'Alene. Although Jean is really sweet he needs to take it slow.

In the beginning he goes about it the wrong way and his attempt at a serious relationship with his fuckbuddy was hilarious. He realizes fast that you can't force a connection which seems so effortless with Jean. When Jean goes into labor and nobody else but Eric is available to be her birth partner a deeper connection builds between him and Jean but also, completely unexpectedly, with her newborn daughter, Ada.

Eric's growth throughout the story is phenomenal and completely believable. He has a couple of hickups along the way and sometimes needs to backtrack and readjust but it is obvious that he wants to change to become a better man. When Ada enters his life he falls head over heels in love with her. The way he was with her was adorable, funny and heartwarming. His love for his baby girl was so palpable. I fell in love with Eric, with his humor, his loyalty, his mellow, good-natured attitude and the way he stopped thinking about himself and started being considerate and thoughtful. His transformation from bad boy to dream man was beautiful.

****Hell, I loved being the person she asked for help. Being the person she relied on, someone she trusted, felt damn good.****

Jean was a likable heroine but - and this is my only quibble - we didn't get her thought process. I never could get a proper read on her so up to the end I didn't know Jean really well. I commend the author for doing a single male POV story but I had troubles warming up to Jean in a way that I wanted her as a friend. She just stayed a stranger to me. Maybe it was the author's intention that decisions Jean made were just as much a surprise for the reader as they were for Eric. I think it excludes the reader from Jean's own development and stopped me from falling in love with her along with Eric.

The person who really rubbed me the wrong way was Nell. Granted, she had a reason the way she was with Eric but, come on, give him a break! She said she loved her friend yet she never gave him a chance to prove that he meant that he wanted to change. When she insulted him for the umpteenth time I felt my head swell and get hot.

****“You’ll screw up eventually, Eric. You can’t help it.” The venom in her voice . . . hell. I rocked back on my heels.
“You actually hate me, don’t you?”
“No, of course not,” she said. “But I’m wary of you. I know you too well to be anything else. And I don’t want you hanging around my friend who is young, alone, and vulnerable.”****

This isn't the way somebody talks to a friend and as much as I felt sad for Nell in Twist I really hated her in Chaser.

This installment is pretty low in the angst department. I loved Eric's and Jean's friendship - trust had to be established first before it could lead to more so it's a slow burn. But I didn't mind at all - I loved their friendship so much! Eric's wise-cracks and quips are what make this story so incredibly enjoyable. He and Ada are the stars in Chaser. I loved to reconnect with Joe and Alex and we also get cameos from the Stage Dive series. Kylie Scott remains one of my favorites, I can't see that changing anytime soon.

****“You look great as Morticia, babe. Just one question,” he said. “How am I supposed to drink anything with all this hair in my face?”
“I’ll put a straw in your drink and lead you around all night so you don’t bump into things. Don’t worry. I’ve thought this all out.”
I chuckled. “Beer through a straw. Way to go, Cousin Itt.”
“Shut up, Wednesday,” Joe growled. Or, at least, I think he did.****

With his skills behind the bar and his smooth-talking line, Eric Collins is a player and he wouldn't have it any other way. Or would he? With his friend/coworker Nell (with whom he shares a tragic past) on his case and his older brother Joe settling down with the right woman, Eric is determined to show them all that he can be boyfriend material.

Enter Jean. When Eric sees Jean walk into the Dive Bar he's immediately attracted to her, but on closer inspection Eric learns that Jean is pregnant. Twenty-two-year-old Jean left her home behind in Florida to start over fresh in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at the suggestion of her friend Nell whom she met on a pregnancy support site. The last thing she needs is a smooth-talking player like Eric hanging around and reminding her of the father of her unborn child.

As much as they try to avoid each other their attraction to one another is magnetic. Eric finds himself spending all of his free time with Jean and when she needs help the most, Eric is there to come to her rescue. Can spending time with Jean and her daughter Ada put an end to Eric's manwhore ways for good? Will the young, single mother make room in her life for the right man? Or will two visitors with an unreasonable request put an end to Eric and Jean's budding relationship before it has a chance to blossom?

As always with this author's books, I devoured Chaser. I loved Eric and thought he had tremendous character growth in this book. His determination to become the man his friends didn't believe he could be was well plotted and I loved his interactions with Jean's daughter. For a man who didn't want anything to do with children he was a natural with Ada.

Eric and Jean's relationship was a slow-burning attracting that builds up until the smoldering scene in which the pair finally get together. And while sexy, it also shows the realities of finding "grown-up playtime" while having small children in the house.

Of course I love the cameo appearances of the Stage Dive guys, especially my bae Mal and I like how the two different series mingle together in this series. It's being able to look back at your favorite rockers from the Stage Dive series and see how their lives are continuing now that their series is done.

One character I could have done without was Nell. I don't really understand her deal in this book. She's angry at Eric for what happened between them and to their child, but she comes off more like a vengeful ex that's determined to ruin any happiness Eric might find while at the same time trying to tell him to grow up and act responsible. The other issue I have, more with the author than the story, is her usage of the word "nappies" in reference to diapers. I know the author is Australian but this series is set in Idaho, in the United States. We don't use the word nappies here. We call them diapers.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I like all of this author's books but this one seemed more meaningful to me in a way. I thought Eric and Jean's story was beautiful.

I just fell in love with a F*ck Boy. No, seriously. That's all Eric has ever been throughout the Dive Bar Series– an adorable womanizing F*ck Boy. That is, until Jean walked into the bar.

There is nothing better than joining in on a journey where a static character finally starts evolving. It’s also riveting to see how he reacts to the reaction of those around him. Why believe the guy who has always been the lackadaisical playboy? Why give him the chance to change, to grow, and to become more?

It seems that finding someone who knows nothing of a promiscuous past is the key; but not only that. It’s finding someone who challenges him to do better, be better, and to feel and care for more than himself: someone who also comes with a beautiful little bundle of joy.

All-n-all, this was a great read. I fell in love with a character I had no desire to like and became angry when others didn't give him a chance to prove himself. It’s a great formula for a story of romance and self redemption.

Ever since the previous book in this amazing new series by Kylie Scott, I was more than curious. And mostly because - and yes, I admit that sounds weird - because Eric (the hero in Chaser) was such an awful person. He and his promiscuous ways were a serious character flaw for me and I was so ready to find out if he could be tamed.
Either way, I knew Kylie Scott would surprise me with whatever she'd come up with in the end. And boy, did she. The biggest surprise of all: Eric. Yes, THAT Eric. The awful character from the previous books. And wow, she really made it possible to see what it means for a person to redeem themselves. It was HEARTWARMING. Not only the romance but the relationship between the hero and his 'step-daughter by default'.
There were, however, 2 not so insignificant issues I had with the story. Scott made one of the side-characters I actually liked in the previous books look like a complete bitch. Pardon my colorful language but no lesser word would suffice in that case. Yes, the hero has made mistakes and most of all with said side-character. But even 90% into the story and even after every blind person was able to see the real changes he's made, she still made him out to be the devil. Responsible for everything evil. And she showed it. That was what made her seem bitchy to me, immature. And to make all that up as side effects of pregnancy hormones was a little too easy. But okay. Then there was the issue of the slow pace. Yes, it was necessary for the vibe and credibility of the story to actually go the slow burn route but for me personally, it was too slow. That's the risk authors take when pacing the story down. Sometimes, they create a solid plot but the romance is only secondary and/or rushed towards the ending. Maybe it's only my weird mind being impatient and thus the feeling everything took too long. Who knows.
All in all, I love the series. Loved "Chaser" despite the issues I had with the story. 4,5 stars and I can definitely recommend it - you miss out on something amazing if you don't dive into those great books by Kylie Scott!!! ❤

Okay. I liked Eric in the previous books, but he wasn't exactly the poster child for personal responsibility. He liked women. He kind of had a laid back attitude where everything was involved (work, women, whatever) and his friends and family ended up covering for him on more than one occasion.

Plus, there was the whole *incident* with Nell. Which, you know, didn't exactly paint him in the most flattering of lights.

Guys, Eric surprised me. After being given some hard truths about himself, he makes an effort to change his ways. He's still Eric, though, so changing his mindset about certain things takes time.

However, meeting Jean gives him some added incentive to try to be a better man. He comes through for her when she needs him. Honestly, the first few times he steps in to help her, he really was doing it for her. He got nothing out of it.

It was sort of torture for him, but he did it. And then he came back and did it again. Even though her pregnancy scared the crap out of him and he was ready to bolt in the opposite direction at the drop of a hat.

Like I said, it took time for Eric to come around. BUT WHEN HE DID...he did in a big way. BIG way.

I liked seeing him like that. I liked how Jean made him want to be a better person. I liked how he started taking responsibility for his actions. I JUST LIKE HIM, OKAY? HIM AND JEAN AND ADA.

And revisiting old friends (and wildly manic friends who just can't stop needling people) made it all the better.

Fans will cheer their favorite bartender’s evolution from caveman to gentleman in the third installment of Kylie Scott’s humorous and sexy Dive Bar series. Laughter, love, and redemption go hand in hand when the bar’s resident playboy decides to clean up his act after he meets a young woman who needs a friend more than a good time. Strong narrative, a solid base, steamy and verbally enhanced love scenes, and an enchanting romance that develops between not one but three people will leave even the jaded of readers swooning. Many familiar faces and a cameo from our favorite band is a winning bonus.

Summary: Eric Collins isn’t sure what he wants anymore after a traumatic event left him confused and heartbroken. In his attempts to jump back in the saddle, he flirts with a gorgeous new face at the bar until he sees she is extremely pregnant and learns she is his new neighbor. When he is warned to stay away from her, Eric decides that he will prove to his friends there is more to him than just sex and does all he can to make his new neighbor’s life easier. Jean Antal moved to Coeur d’Alene after she and her parents got into a nasty battle over her pregnancy. She is looking to start fresh and isn’t in the market for a lover, boyfriend, or baby daddy. Having been warned about Eric and his philandering ways, she pleasantly surprised when Eric becomes a huge part of her life, asking for nothing in return but her friendship. When Jean’s parents come looking for her to repair what they damaged, Eric has to decide if home is where he lives or where ever Jean is.

Fabulous book. I couldn't of pictured a more beautiful story for Eric. He deserved all the happiness in the world. Such a great love story.

Really enjoyed this end to the series. Look forward to what comes next from Kylie.

Chaser is the third book in the Dive Bar series. I think it could be read as a standalone, but I would recommend you start with Dirty, book one. It would give you a little more information and character knowledge, but again I don’t think you have to read the previous books to still enjoy the story.

A tiger can't change his stripes or can he? Eric is the Dive Bar's resident playboy. He is never one for serious relationships. I'll be honest. I wasn't Eric's biggest fan when I started this book. I actually kind of hated his guts. I love Kylie Scott's books, but I just wasn't super excited about this story. Chaser is told from Eric's point of view. I don't know how she did it, but I wasn't that far in the book and my hatred from Eric faded away. I became Team Eric.

Jean just moved to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. She is pregnant and looking to start over across the country. I’ll admit it was strange not getting her point of view. I’m used to reading books with alternating points of view or the heroine’s point of view. That being said, I loved her character and felt connected to her without being inside her head.

Chaser is a slow burn romance. Kylie Scott just writes books that make you remember why you love to read. I very much enjoyed reading Chaser and I can't wait to read her next book.
