Well it was a fine read, not spectacular but fine. There are other novely by this writer I liked better than this one but well, it's a fair, nice read.
Clara Whitney wants to return home to Virginia. She has devised a fool proof plan, or so she thinks. That is how Clara finds herself propositioning one of London's greatest rakes. All he has to do is agree to marry her in name only, and she can accomplish her goal. Easy enough, right?!
Julian Danvers, The Earl of Ravenscroft is tired of being paid off for his services to lonely women. He wants more from life. When Clara approaches him with her offer, he wants to refuse and almost does until Clara's father shows up. Suddenly, Julian finds himself agreeing to marriage and even negotiating for a partnership in her father's company. All that's left to do is convince Clara to stay and take a real shot at marriage to him. What Julian isn't counting on is losing his heart to her in the bargain.
RESTLESS RAKE is entertaining from beginning to end. The secondary characters even manage to steal a little of the spotlight throughout the book. All in all, the primary characters, Clara and Julian, hold the reader's attention. Both want two very different things and have to overcome many obstacles to see eye-to-eye. RESTLESS RAKE never has a dull moment. Historical fans are sure to love it.
Hot, sexy and it part of a series. Sign me up. This was one of my first book I read from this series and I’m hooked. Scarlett Scott has the best character writing. I can’t wait for the next book.
Well written and entertaining. The characters are colorful and captivating. I enjoyed every aspect of the book
I was hooked from page 1.. I really liked this book. Julian, Earl of Ravenscroft, was wicked rogue but he was likable. Clara was a quite brave young woman. I liked the banter between the two and then the attraction. over all I liked the book. First book I’ve read by this author and will be watching for more.
Another historical read with a formulaic plot. Don’t be fooled, however, a Restless Rake is a delightful read lead by a strong heroine and a hero willing to sacrifice himself to protect what is his. The characters are not only interesting, they are realistic. Their interactions are amusing and their progression to love natural and believable. The author has an easy style the flows nicely and the reader will find themselves at the end before they know it. Overall, Restless Rake is a heartwarming tale of discovering love where you least expect it.
Ravenscroft and Julia where a great pair. The way Ravenscroft makes Julia see that home isn't always a place is wonderful.. This book was a joy to read and Scarlett Scott does a great job of bringing these two characters together.
I don't know where to start... this will hit a few catnip buttons for a lot of readers. We have a headstrong Virginia girl stuck in England who lives with her father and step-mother and wishes desperately that she did not. We have a hero who has very little self-worth due to having to sell himself for the money to keep the family and the estates going since he was a teenager. Somehow they bring out the best in each other. The characters are well written and best of all they are interesting in their own respective ways. There is a murderer mucking about and threatening their domestic bliss which leads to misunderstands and moves the plot along. Was it easy to guess who the villain would be? Yes. Does it spoil enjoyment of the story? Nope. This is a great story by an author who is new to me and one I will be on the look out for more of her books!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Clara lives in England but wants to go back to Virginia. She makes a proposition to Julian, Lord Ravenscroft, to split her dowry since he is broke and essentially sells himself to rich ladies for money. He is more than a Rake really but there is instant attraction between them. Clara's father finds out about her visiting Julian and goes to his house to confront them. Because of the scandal that can occur and other circumstances, they must wed. However, Clara's father insists that they court before marriage. Julian and Clara fall in love although various people are putting roadblocks in their paths. I thought the ending was a little sappy and that Julian's complete change was a little hard to believe. It was a good read, thanks.

I hadn’t read the previous entry in the series, but this didn’t end up being a problem for me as the author has crafted a story that stands perfectly well on its own.
Clara Whitney longs to return to her homeplace of Virginia, but her father refuses to allow her to. She decided to find a desperate man and offer him half her inheritance if he will marry her and allow her to return to America. Her friend suggested Julian, the Earl of Ravenscroft.
Julian has been left with crippling debts by his father and has supported himself by allowing women to pay for his “services”. With two sisters to support he is getting desperate. When Clara turns up on his doorstep with her intriguing proposition, he intends to turn her down, until her father comes in brandishing a firearm. Julian decides to take advantage of the situation, but he does not intend to settle for a marriage of convenience.
With danger lurking around the corner from an unknown enemy, can Julian convince Clara to stay?
I did enjoy this book, the relationships are well-drawn, and the dialogue is witty. Julian appealed to me as he is quite a broken hero with low feelings of self-worth that he masks with a flirtatious and jovial manner. Clara, while slightly naïve, is determined and truly sees the good in Julian. From the snippet provided at the end of this book about the next in the series, I will definitely be sticking with the series.
This is my first book from Scarlett Scott and the first in the series that I am reading. What a treat. I absolutely loved it. Very engaging characters. Lovely pace. Amazing writing. Great chemistry between the two heroes. I'll definitely check out the other books in the series and from the author.
I received this copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review that is all my own.
This is Clara and Julian’s story. All Clara wants is to go home to Virginia. Julian is an Earl who is trying to keep his estates going by living off of wealthy women. His father left him staggering debt. Clara comes to his home to make a bargain with him. He can have half her substantial dowry if he marries her in name only and let’s her go to live in Virginia. Little does she know but he desires her very much and doesn’t want to let her go. There is someone trying to kil them. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Clara Whitney, an American heiress is desperate to leave London and return to her native Virginia. She'll do anything, even if it means striking a deal with the most notorious earl in England, to get what she wants. Julian Danvers The Earl of Ravenscroft is infamous for his prowess in the bedchamber and for earning his living by entertaining bored society widows and wives. When the innocent and lovely Clara seeks him out with the daring proposition of a marriage in name only in return for a generous share of her dowry, Julian accepts.
Jesse Whitney, Clara’s father insists on a fortnight’s courtship. Julian acts the gentleman & even before the wedding this very likeable couple are falling in love. However Clara is determined to return to Virginia until Julian is attacked & almost killed. A lovely read the pace is very good & both Clara & Julian are strong characters. Julian has a very low opinion of himself & it takes Clara to help him find his worth. There is someone out to spoil their burgeoning love & they need to be stopped. This is the fifth in the series but easily could be read on it’s own, I’m now eagerly waiting for Bo’s story
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I loved this book! It caught me at the first page. Julian, Earl of Ravenscroft, was such a likeable, wicked rogue, the things he said to Clara when trying to shock her. Clara was an equally determined and quite fearless lady. I enjoyed the banter and the gradually awareness of something deeper than initial attraction. Just as things appear to go smoothly, there is an unpleasant experience. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I will certainly look out for more to read. The next book in the series looks to be another very good read. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The humorous dialog and witty retorts had me snickering a few times in this story. Julian is crass and makes no bones about it. Love his character. Clara, an American, gives back just as good. Just when you think this story is about Julian needing money and frankly not really caring about anyone and Clara’s only goal is to get back to Virginia, the story turns. There were a few left turns that had me scratching my head but on the whole the story is really nice. They come to love and care for one another and are willing to sacrifice for each other. I know, a plot point that is done many times but because of their character difference, it made for a really feel good story.
