Colleen Hoover has done it again! This book is gut wrenching, but has a happy ever after. Graham and Quinn are written as an everyday couple with everyday problems. I could not put this book down, it had me hooked from the opening paragraph.
Really loved this book. It flashes between now and then between a couple as they experience the ups and downs of marriage. This book had me in tears in spots and I just couldn’t put it down! My copy of this book was provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars and finished reading in just a few days. The story was very touching and I absolutely loved the beginning of the book when Quinn and Graham met. This introduction was probably one of my favorite parts of the book. Though it wasn't my favorite of hers, I still really enjoyed it. I felt it had a slightly different vibe from some of her others -- a bit more mature and dramatic. We will definitely purchase this book for the library. Now all I have to say is... when does her next book come out?!
I read All Your Perfects straight through, in one sitting, without stopping. I consider reading a book “in one sitting” if it’s over a very short period of time, even if there’s some breaks in there. This may be the first time I’ve ever truly read a book in one sitting.
I couldn’t stop reading. I had to know what happened. I kept thinking that if only I kept reading, I’d get past the pain, I’d get some answers, I’d have some inkling that there was certainly a happy ending. And the next thing I knew, I was done.
This was the first time that I was kind of upset with myself for not reading the synopsis. Although, I think that if I had, I may not have had the courage to read the book at all, and while it was far from easy, I’m still glad that I did.
Colleen Hoover is an excellent writer, and this book was no exception. Something about the way she writes rarely fails to evoke emotion from me. I started crying around 30% and feel like I cried until the last page. I kept crying even after it was over. I’ll admit, I think a large part of the reason why is because there were some things in the book that hit a little too close to home for me, and it was painful to experience those feelings again. But even without that, this is a very emotionally charged book.
But I think it also carries an important message. Life is rarely how you imagine it will be. You can dream and plan and prepare as much as you want, but life doesn’t always go the way you expect it to. For some, it might be small things, for others, it might be in much larger ways. But in most cases, and certainly in mine, it doesn’t make that life any less beautiful.
I can imagine that this book will be incredibly hard for some people to read. I don’t like spoilers, I don’t particularly care for trigger warnings, and I won’t give them to you. But if you are especially sensitive to certain subject matter, I would seek out some information on at least of the couple of the issues addressed in this book before you decide to read it. Or at the very least, emotionally prepare yourself before you start it.
Just know, that I really do think this is a book worth reading. There’s a lot of beauty within the pages, even amongst the pain and heartache. It’s not like other Colleen Hoover books that I’ve read. It’s not quite as quirky as she normally can be, but I actually enjoyed that. Guard your heart, then read this book.
Quinn & Graham didn’t meet in best of circumstances but they couldn’t deny the sparks that ignited between them. Eventually, they get married and live happily ever after. NOT! If only life could be that be simple, but it’s not.
Quinn & Graham has hit a rough patch in their marriage and it’s has gotten to the point where a decision needs to be made – Leave or Stay Together. But when it comes to matters of the heart, it’s not always easy to make a decision.
This book left me emotionally drained. I’m not very familiar with Colleen Hoover books so I wasn’t prepared for the sucker punch she had waiting for me.
One of the many things I loved about All Your Perfects was its rawness. The story alternated between then and now – so readers were able to see how the relationship started and how it has gotten to this point.
The characters were relatable and well-developed. I felt every break in Quinn & Graham’s hearts. I know how it feels when communication between a couple breaks down. There were a few times I had to pause and reflect on my marriage. Marriage is work. You have to make a decision to always choose each other through the good and bad times. Unfortunately, some couple don’t get to see forever.
I was doing such a great job keeping my emotions in check until it came down to that damn box. That box had me throwing out my reader’s white flag. I surrendered and shed a few tears.
I look forward to reading more of Colleen Hoover’s books. Highly Recommended!
Wow! Trying to process my feelings...Incredibly gripping story…Beautiful characters…So many feels…Everything I have come to love and expect from a Colleen Hoover read!
Colleen Hoover has been one of my go-to authors for 6 years now and there is a reason for it... She writes incredible stories from the heart, stories that I will never forget. All Your Perfects is another example of her brilliance. An incredibly raw, emotional story I think many of us can relate to on some level.
With an Ugly Love feel to it, this page turner is one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride. Quinn and Graham's story is one of fate and epic love. But even epic love has a breaking point. You just have to decide whether it's worth fighting for. I loved how real and relatable Quinn and Graham's story was. Each copy should come with a tissues, a bottle of vodka and chocolate. I know I need them.
There is so much I want to tell you about this story but there is no way for me to do it without spoiling it. What I will tell you is that there are fabulous unforgettable characters, and a gut-wrenching, angst-filled story that will break your heart and fill it full of love all at the same time!
All Your Perfects was the perfect read for this hopeless romantic
*I was provided with a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Are you ready to cry? Are you prepared to have your heart pulled so hard that you’ll want to rip it out? Are you ready to just curl up in a ball and sit in a dark corner for about a day or two? If not then I suggest you set this book aside.
It’s very hard to write about a Colleen Hoover book because you have so many emotions going through you; you just can’t put them into words. Then you have the task of expressing how you feel without giving away too much because you want everyone to experience everything exactly the way you did.
What makes Graham and Quinn’s story a little different is that you go through and established relationship, meaning….they are married. You get a picture of their before they were married life and their after they were married life. Their marriage suffers some serious blows and you go through the rough times with them. There’s a point in the book, actually a couple of points, when I had to prepare myself for the possibility that these two might not make….whether they did or not, I won’t say. As usual, Colleen writes so that you literally feel what her characters feel. When their feelings are hurt you get that tightening in your chest. When sadness takes over them, you have to put the book down and be sad too.
As for the characters, I have to say I was much more team Graham than I was team Quinn…not that you had to pick a team. I just felt like Quinn kept so much to herself that Graham was damned if he did and damned if he didn’t; however, there times when I wished he showed a little more emotion. Quinn seemed to be so wrapped up in her own head sometimes that she was just too much to take. Graham and Quinn were characters that all of us probably know someone like them, they were so relatable and real and I think that’s the other thing that really made me like this book…the entire situation could have happened to anyone you know, or to you.
For as heartbreaking as this story was, I really enjoyed it. I have to say the flashback weren’t so enjoyable, only because I felt like the minute you got into the meat of scene, it ended and you were thrown a flashback, but then again…that probably heightened the level of anxiety that made this a good read. If there was one thing this book didn’t have that I would have liked would have been Graham’s POV, this is told strictly from Quinn’s POV.
In the end Colleen Hoover has given us another book that will have you totally in your feelings by the end. Thank goodness her books are stretched out, there’s no way I could read more than two of her books a year. I’d be on someone’s couch for sure seeking therapy.
How to review a Colleen Hoover book: write, erase, repeat until you’re a basket case. Why? Because nothing I say about Colleen’s writing will ever properly convey my feelings about her books. Lucky for her, my reviews have no merit (ha!) on her success. Colleen doesn’t need us to sell her books, she barely needs blurbs anymore! The back cover of her books could all say, “Read this book,” from here on out and we would mindlessly stumble to the bookstore like a hoard of zombies on The Walking Dead. Colleen’s writing is tried and true. She allows her readers to open their hearts to possibilities they’ve likely never considered, feel all the feels, and close the book enlightened and refreshed.
Despite all the good, I was still scared of reading this book. In a lot of ways, I feel like the world discourages people from getting married, starting families, and enjoying the good that comes from having a loving relationship. After reading the blurb, I was worried this would be another story to give marriage a bad name. Clearly, I should trust Colleen more. She’s always the first to brag on her #legit husband and constantly has good things to say about her family.
My favorite thing about All Your Perfects were the imperfections. Fear not, as usual, Colleen’s writing is flawless and her storytelling sucked me in from the first sentence. However, Graham and Quinn’s relationship is imperfect, just like the rest of our human relationships, and it was absolutely refreshing! Most romance books take us on unimaginable journies with beautiful people, beautiful places, and whirlwind love stories. Don’t get me wrong, I like these books, too! It’s nice to escape reality and read a happy story, realistic or not, every now and then. In some ways, however, these stories may be setting us up for failure in our real lives, especially if we expect our own stories to be as perfect as the ones we read. The majority of books end as the characters get married or the epilogue will feature the characters with their 2.5 children and a tender happily ever after. Colleen Hoover takes her readers past the happily ever after to the middle of marriage, something I have never experienced in a romance novel before.
Whether we struggle in our relationships in the same way as Graham and Quinn, I think their story is real and relatable for every married couple and offers a practical look for anyone considering a long-term relationship in their lifetime. As much as we might wish it were true, life isn’t a romance novel. Life is hard, messy, and love isn’t perfect because people aren’t perfect. The beauty of marriage comes from choosing to love during the mess and despite imperfections.
While there are many obvious themes in this story, the main theme that stood out to me was communication and it’s importance in relationships. Without it, negative thoughts and resentment build up over time, leading to a huge barrier between people that eventually feels impossible to climb. Colleen’s writing makes this concept clear as day while showing how the majority of problems could have been avoided if the characters talked things out, something all of us could learn from.
I’m so thankful for the opportunity to read this beautiful and sobering look at life and love. I appreciate the lessons Colleen infused into this story – Loving the life you live and loving the person you love. She takes readers back to the basics after life has left things muddled. This will be a story that sticks with me for life.
Be sure to pick up All Your Perfects upon its release on July 17, 2018!
If I would describe ALL YOUR PERFECTS with only a few words, my review would probably sound like a 90's dance song: Love. Hurt. Pain. Worse. Disappointment. Content. Help. Pretend. Forgiveness. Mend. Wishes. Dog. Happy. End. *Dunzzdunzzz/lightstrobles/oversized goggles and pigtails*
Yeah, enough of that. Now I'll try to put my thoughts into real sentences and create a review. And let me tell you, my thoughts and feelings are as scrambled as the eggs I normally eat for breakfast so that's no easy task.
We all know that there are certain molds that we have to build our lives around, to be able to fit into society's standards. Sometimes, that can feel as if you're trapped in someone else's life because that's exactly what it is - you let others dictate your life. A proposal should happen at a certain point in a relationship. Not earlier, not later. A marriage should then follow after a certain time of being engaged. Not earlier and not later. A pregnancy with the resulting 2,4 kids, a house, and steady career should be the complementary replenishments after the marriage. Not more and not less. There are the rebels that do what they want anyway and then there are the people who want to fit into that mold so badly that they become the rebels in the process. It's perfectly normal to want to fit in but you shouldn't forget what's important to YOU personally. ALL YOUR PERFECTS shows what happens when somebody loses sight of that.
My best friend in real life just has been through similar problems like in ALL YOUR PERFECTS. And I can say with absolute certainty that Hoover has created a tale so realistic and raw that it could be taken out of some real person's life. And I felt. There were so many emotions going on. Sometimes I hated all men just for being male. Sometimes I wanted to cry out of sheer happiness for the characters. Sometimes I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall. Sometimes I wanted to call the whole of society out for being hypocrites. Sometimes I wanted to just eat my feelings in ice-cream. It just goes to show how amazing of an author Colleen Hoover is for being able to make something so ugly and sad into such a beautiful tale of love. My adoration for her knows no limits at this point. And the fact that she didn't go and create a picture-perfect rainbows, unicorns and glittery stars happy ending just deepened that adoration. Don't get me wrong, it was the perfect ending to this story of two flawed people finding their own 'Perfects'. There was no magic cure -it-all for those very real problems. Which made it a perfect ending for me.
I personally would advise to go into the story blind and just feel it. Maybe it'll hit too close to home for some but Hoover has proven once again that she has just as much tact as she has the uncanny ability to write stories so deep and full of emotions.
And hopefully someday, we'll all be able to be as brave and bold as Colleen Hoover and be able to talk about our divorce, depression, infertility, abusive relationship or any other imperfection openly. Make the world expand it's molds and maybe create a few new ones in the process. I really hope so because that's overdue and I can't thank CoHo enough for making a change in my own life at least. For making me redirect the spotlight in my life from all the flaws to my Perfects.
The whole vibe of the story was a different one to Hoover's previous novels. The characters, the setting, the focus is a more mature one and I loved that. But she also added the first rush and butterflies of getting to know each other and falling in love. There is no certain category that I'd sort ALL YOUR PERFECTS into, because it was partly New Adult, partly Women's Fiction, partly Second Chance romance - but most of all it was a LOVE story.
There's yet again a new facet added to Colleen Hoover's talent and I can only rate it with 5 stars and recommend everyone to read the book
❝If you only shine light on your flaws, all your perfects will dim.❞
All Your Perfects is a beautiful, tragic and passionate love story about two flawed people who fate brought together at the perfect time. Tho they may not be perfect individually, together they learn to accept each other's imperfections and start appreciating all the perfect things within their marriage, thereby, arming themselves with the tools necessary to weather category 5 storms!
Upon finishing All Your Perfects I immediately wanted to read it again. I don't remember a time when I've ever had that feeling. The story is beautiful in its devastation and truth. What I love so much about this story was its honest view of marriage. It is about a married couple who face tough times and how they come out in the end. Starting from first sight, Hoover takes us on the journey of a couple as they meet, date and marry. But unlike most books I've read, this book is about the marriage. It's about the struggles married couples go through and the real way in which they deal with them.
Marriage is hard work, and sometimes it doesn't work and that's okay. But when it does, it isn't by chance. It doesn't work by love alone, although that is the foundation, it is with grit and faith and perseverance. I loved this quote from an interview Quinn did for a school article of a couple who'd been married for sixty years, "What's the secret to such a perfect marriage?"
❝No marriage is perfect. There were times when she gave up on us. There were even more times when I gave up on us. The secret to our longevity is that we never gave up at the same time.❞
Graham was like David, his love was like the rock and their marriage problems were like Goliath. His love was unshakable. Graham lived for loving Quinn. He lived for making her happy. He loved her dreams, both awake and asleep. His love for her made her miss him when he was gone.
Quinn's self-doubt and devastation broke my heart. Her pain was honest and transparent and I love that Hoover didn't hold back on her inner dialogue. Her thoughts and feelings were brilliantly laid out on each page.
❝I'm sick of being looked at this way, of not knowing how to answer his questions. I'm no longer on the same wavelength as my husband. I don't know how to communicate with him anymore. Sometimes when I open my mouth, it feels like the wind blows all my words straight back down my throat.❞
❝I miss the days when I needed to tell him everything or I would burst. And I miss the days when he would feel like time cheated us during the hours we had to sleep.❞
The past and present telling built the intensity of the story and the relationship of Quinn and Graham. It lent to the passion and emotionality of this devastating and painful story! My heart ached and I sobbed!
The wisdom within its pages was astounding. These were things you hear from a counselor or life coach! And the BOX, omg! Where did she come up with that? It is truly brilliant! Once the full meaning was revealed, I bawled!
Quinn and Graham's love was raw, emotional, brutal, and at times devastating. With All Your Perfects we are reminded that it's easy to point out and focus on flaws in ourselves and others. But it's much more difficult to be present in and appreciate the times when things are good and shine brilliantly.
This is my favorite read of the year so far and my top favorite from Mrs. Hoover! (It's going to be hard to beat this one!)
Colleen Hoover has done it again! I devoured this book in 2 sittings. Every time I walked away from it I was thinking about the characters and their story. CoHo did such a great job of fleshing out our main characters that when events happened in their lives I felt my heart breaking for them. I really liked the two time frames that we got the story from, one from when they met in the past and to what was happening in the present. It was interesting to see how their marriage changed from the time that they met until present day. I enjoyed watching the progression of their lives together and how that was shaped over the deep desire to be parents. I could very much relate to the struggles they endured and although my life didn't take the same turns as their did I could see how that delicate balance could so easily be shaken to the core. Marriage is about compromise and communication. Without either of those the marriage will not last. I also really appreciated that Hoover took the time to have the characters take a look back at their former selves to see what was really important and how things they have done and said have changed that for them. I think everything about Quinn and Graham's story was pretty much true to life and I enjoyed seeing how they worked out their story. Love, heartbreak and finding the ways to work past it. This story was so lovely and compulsively readable.
I’ve just recently been binge reading Colleen Hoover’s books and I have to say, there’s something so quietly addictive to the way she tells a story. You just know you’re going to become immersed in the character’s lives and for better or worse she’s going to put those characters through the ringer and perhaps break your heart in the process. All Your Perfects is no exception. In it, she takes a long, intricate look at marriage and what happens when people and circumstances change over the course of time. We meet Quinn and Graham who’re brought together in the unlikeliest of circumstances when they’re lives just so happen to take unexpected turns at the same time. Fate seems to have intervened for them and we get watch their story unfold with a Then and Now narrative. I’m not always a fan of this type of back and forth narrative but in Hoover’s hands it works and it works well. I actually think this style of narrative works so well for this particular story because we get to see how their love began (Then) along with how it’s falling apart (Now) and this created so much emotional suspense
for me that I had to keep turning the pages to see how it all turned out.
Hoover tackles some serious subjects in this story…infertility, infidelity, the evolution of love, sex…all within a marriage that at times seems on the brink of destruction with two people so often in despair. It was compelling storytelling to say the least and what I also found so fascinating was Hoover’s ability to create characters who could at times be so frustrating while also pulling at your heartstrings. Needless to say, I read this in one sitting and I won’t be giving away any plot details because what I’ve discovered about reading Colleen Hoover’s books is half the fun is going into her stories blind. You know you’re going to be surprised in some way and she certainly doesn’t disappoint with this new novel. I still feel like It Ends With Us is my favorite of those I’ve read by her but this is definitely right up there with it.
Colleen Hoover has this way of ripping out your heart, stomping on it, throwing it in the ocean then fishing it out and putting it back where it belongs. But within this process, she manages to slip in some humor and some romance and some sweetness. I've not read a book like this since Ugly Love, a book so real and so relevant that you forget it's fiction. Prepare yourself to be absolutely gutted, your heart will literally break...and you'll love every second of it.
Ms. Hoover takes us on another emotional journey. All Your Perfects was unique and heart-breakingly beautiful; majority of the time in romance novels we are watching a couple fall in love, All Your Perfects is so much more than falling in love. It's staying in love, fighting for that love and never giving up on that love, battling the category 6 hurricane as a team.
Life isn’t always fair more often than not its cruel to the best of people. AYP shines a light on an issue that affects so many, one that many of us think nothing about. Because of the ignorance we often ask questions that aren’t intended to be hurtful or painful, but they are.
“If you only shine light on your flaws, all your perfects will dim”.
Colleen gives us what appears to be the perfect couple. We flip between past and present, allowing us the opportunity to watch them fall in love and out of love with each chapter. I think that’s what boke my heart the most in this book; they were so in love, perfect for each other than BAM the next chapter has us looking at everything that’s going wrong vs what good they still have in their marriage.
I will admit that I wished that this story would’ve ended differently but that is life, we don’t always get what we want. We need to learn to make the most and best of what we have.
A must read!!
It's so much easier to focus on the things that are wrong than on all the things that are right in any given situation. In life, in the news, in books and movies, in humanity, in relationships, we allow the defects and imperfections to outweigh the good without even realizing we're doing it. We're programmed to be overly critical rather than positive. Our flaws tend to overshadow our attributes every single time. With All Your Perfects, Colleen Hoover takes a seemingly perfect couple and poignantly demonstrates the devastating breakdown of their happiness when the kinks and cracks in their relationship become consuming, when their perfects are dimmed by their flaws. This is an all too real portrayal of a marriage slipping away because of circumstances so many readers will undoubtedly relate to. It's a story that I grew more immersed in with each turn of the page, a story so intense I needed to take breaks as I read, a story that's perfectly imperfect in both its simplicity and its complexity, a story that altered my perspective on every single thing by the time I was finished.
I've read a handful of stories recently that evolve the way this story does, with alternating chapters flashing between the past and the present. It might be one of my most favorite ways to read a romance, watching the couple fall in love one minute and fall apart the next but not knowing exactly how it will all end until it does. It's both sad and beautiful, exciting and heartbreaking all at once. It makes for such an emotional read, a confusing tug of war of the heartstrings and I just loved it.
The fall into love between Graham and Quinn is quintessential Colleen Hoover but still feels very new and fresh and unexpected. Their relationship in the 'past' chapters is quirky and adorable, peppered with humor and lust. I loved being in those chapters so much, experiencing the relationship in its early days before everything gets difficult. The 'present' chapters though, while harder to read considering how cracked and crinkled their relationship has become, are also an all consuming, addictive experience. Quinn and Graham's troubles broke my heart. The tender moments between this couple filled me with so much hope for them, so much joy, but the heartbreaking wedge between them that seems to grow by the day cuts deep. I couldn't get enough. I couldn't catch my breath. I couldn't stop reading.
True to form, Colleen Hoover pens another wholly absorbing love story of romance and humor, but one that's woven seamlessly with a very relevant struggle that so many marriages can relate to. If you can't personally relate to it, you will still undoubtedly be moved by it. I wasn't expecting to be quite as effected by this particular storyline as I have by others from this author, but it truly forces you to empathize, to grow into a more conscientious, more sensitive human being. It also makes you think about what's most important. This story is as relevant as it is romantic. It's a brilliant story of learning how to see the perfects when the flaws war so mightily for your attention. It's a story about fighting your way out of the dark when the light has dimmed all your perfects. This story will be hard to read for many, but it's truly a beautifully gut wrenching yet profoundly important story that serves as a reminder that we can't let the bad outweigh the good. It's a hopeful, achingly joyful love story about never losing sight of what really matters and I thought it was just fantastic.
I am a mystery and psych thriller reader but when it comes to Colleen Hoover, it doesn’t matter the genre you better believe I’m reading the book! It Ends With Us is by far one of my favorite books ever! I can definitely say All Your Perfects is now definitely up there with IEWU!
This story is about a young married couple who are struggling to keep their marriage alive. We get “then” and “now” chapters that are so different from each other your heart will be hurting.
Quinn and Graham meet under some unusual circumstances. It’s equally the worst day of their lives. They go their separate ways until they see each other six months later. Quinn and Graham fall fast and hard. I was loving the “then” chapters.
The “now” chapters of the couple are completely different. You can FEEL the sadness between Graham and Quinn. But you will also be rooting for them. I was, all the way!
I loved this story. I believe the struggles that Quinn faced will be so relatable to SO many women out there. Ugh, just so real and so “perfect”. Loved it! Highly recommended 5 perfects Stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is one of the best books I've read and probably my favorite Colleen Hoover book to date. The way she writes about infertility is one point. I had many of the same struggles as Quinn and related to her so much!
5++++ Stars!!!
I want to start right off by saying, All Your Perfects is hands down my #1 favorite book of 2018! It’s actually in the top 5 books of all time for me! I am a HUGE Colleen Hoover fan and LOVE all of her past novels, but All Your Perfects is in a league of it’s own.
I went into this book completely blind (which I highly recommend for everyone)! I hadn’t read the synopsis, I hadn’t read anyone else’s reviews because I love the thrill of experiencing Colleen’s books firsthand without any preconceived thoughts. The one thing I know for sure when starting one of her novels is that my emotions will be manhandled (I mean that in the best possible way) and wooooweeee was that ever true in All Your Perfects! I was so emotionally invested in the two main characters that at one point I was repeating to myself “this is a book”, “this is a book”! But that right there is what a gifted writer Colleen is, you literally forget you don’t actually know these people!
Simply put, everyone needs to read this book! I can promise you this will be one of the few books that when people ask me for a surefire read, I will recommend this gem. It’s one of “those” books, the kind I know I will love even more the second time around (which will commence as soon as I’m done writing this review) and the kind of book it can be 5 years from now and I will still remember every detail because the storyline is that epic. Giving this novel 5 stars is just not sufficient, it deserves all the stars!!!! If you are an avid reader, than this book is a must, but if you are the reader that reads a novel or two a year, than this is the book you are looking for!!
