4.5 Stars..rounded up!

Any other Mary Kay Andrews fans? I just adore all her books and this one definitely did not disappoint! Her books intertwine relationships in such a meticulous way and it's something I love most about her books!

The high tide club, that sounds like a group of people who maybe like to go boating or live by the shore right? Well this is a different kind of high tide club. This is four close girlfriends who grew up together, were like sister but had many secrets intertwined. The group forms because of events that happen that only the four of them know about. They come across all things such as abusive relationships, children in and out of wedlock, race issues, etc.

This book flips back and forth between 1941 (when they were teens) and present day when only 2 of them are alive and well into their 90's. We meet Josephine who has inherited a ton of property but has stage four cancer and needs to get her Will written up to ensure it goes to the right people. Brooke is contacted by Josephine and she can't figure out why this woman is contacting her and not someone else. Josephine tasks her with finding kin of the women who are still alive because she wants the High Tide Club to inherit the property/money and no one else.

Now there's kin of all four women together + one of her friends, Varina, who don't know each other but need to make a dying woman's wish come through. However Josephine starts to spill secrets but Varina is holding onto even more secrets as the story goes on. Brooke, Lizzie, Felicia and Marie have to figure out who is telling the truth. Were Josephine's cousins, who could potentially inherit the estate, really close to her? Who is C.D. and how is he connected to the family? Could your love interest really be out for you for your money?

What if everything you knew had been a lie?

This book totally empowers women and weaves us in and out of how relationships work. It goes through how friends, who are like sisters, will go through great lengths to protect one another and even at 99 years old secrets are forever kept. What an amazing story of the true power of friendship.

Everyone, put this in your beach bag ASAP and read this book. It is so good and highly recommended

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley. This will not effect my review of the book. Josephine Bettendorf Warrick wants to will her beloved Talisa Island to her long ago friends of the High Tide Club. Not an easy task for the 99 year old terminally ill island owner as she has not seen or kept in touch with her friends of decades ago. In addition there are pressing legal issues to be addressed.
Brooke Trappnell 34, an attorney on mainland St. Ann, Georgia receives a call to come to Talisa Island to meet with Josephine.
Thus begins a complex tale of not just legal issues but if love, war, money, friendships, race relationships, societal norms and murder.
For the next few weeks, Brooke searches endeavors to meet Josephine’s stated goal. She finds a living member of the High Tide Club, questionable heirs and relations all the while struggling with her own life as a financially stressed, never married mother of a three year old.
What evolves is a story of complex interaction. Through twists, turns, conflicts and threats, the ladies of the High Tide Club gain respect and acceptance of each other.
Mary Kay Andrews develops diverse characters all of whom are real. Readers too, will come to accept and respect these well defined relatable characters who exist in a story of life as it exists.
Warning, reading this novel could lead to a skinny dipping addiction

I so enjoyed, two stories in one book. Going from past to present with secrets that will come to play and change lives forever. A mystery of the death of a young man has been a secret for generations and now the secrets are being found out. With a blossoming romance makes this the perfect beach read this summer.

Mary Kay Andrews
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A multitude of peoples lives all entwined into one story. This story is filled with secrets, lies, murder, and friendships. Such an awesome read. I’m so glad I took the time to read this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.

When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons attorney Brooke Trappnell to her 20,000 acre barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never actually met her. Josephine’s cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter, but why enlist Brooke and not the prestigious Atlanta law firm she has used for years? Brooke travels to Shellhaven and meets the cagey Josephine, whose home is a crumbling pink mansion at the edge of the turquoise sea.

Over the course of a few meetings, Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, dark secrets, betrayal, and a long-unsolved murder. She is hiring Brooke for two reasons: first, to protect her island from those who would despoil her land, and second, to help her make amends with the heirs of the women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club―so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades―Millie, Ruth, and Varina. To fulfill a dying woman’s wishes, Brooke must find Josephine’s friends’ descendants and bringing them together on Talisa for a reunion of women who’ve actually never met. But in doing so, Brooke unleashes the makings of a scandal that could make someone rich beyond their wildest dreams…or cause them to be in the crosshairs of a murderer….

Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

I love this author! She is my favorite author of beach reads and I am always excited to read her newest book. This one was no exception and I enjoyed it very much. I just love her characters and the story that she tells. Very smart writing and great humor. Highly recommended!

I'm no expert but I think Mary Kay Andrews is turning to more serious stories, don't be fooled by the bright, colorful cover.

3.5, because it still felt ordinary but still enjoyable.

Brooke gets a call from a very atypical new client, it's the recluse millionaire Josephine Warrick, who claims to have known her grandmother. In fact, the two were in some sot of secret club with two others and now Josephine wants to do right by the three. It's Brooke's job to gather everyone and make Josephine's will. As a result, some very different women, descendant's of the original High Tide Club get together in Josephine's island, where a more-than-half-century unsolved murder has taken place. And that's not the only mystery the island guards.

It's a book very hard to classify. It's not really a thriller but it's definitely not focused enough on romance for me to say it is one. I hate calling aything "women's fiction" so I refuse to do it now. In the end, you have a bit of everything.

The book basically takes place nowadays but there are some brief chapters that were flashbacks to when the High Tide Club was young, hinting on what is the answer to the mystery.

I mentioned I found it different from Andrews's usual style because the two other books I've read by her were romance. The first one, Save the Date was good old romance while The Weekenders already hinted at this mystery trend but it still talked about a couple or maybe a love triangle? The High Tide Club does have a couple (or again a love triangle?) but they're far from being its focus.

This book goes on about friendships, about secrets, about making amends and about family—the biological one and the one your heart chooses.

It was a very long read, and yet it went by quickly so much I enjoyed the story. I recommend this for those who like heartwarming reads with a pint of mystery.

The High Tide Club was an entertaining read - lots happening, interesting and varied characters, a little bit of mystery and crime, and some life happenings that tugged at my heart.

I loved that it was a dual time story - usually I find those a little annoying, but this one is really done well and it all goes together seamlessly. It tells the story of Josephine, Milly, Ruth and Varina back in the day and how their lives intertwined and then they lost contact. Why? Josephine was a secretive lady but in my opinion she meant well. I liked her.

The present day ladies called together by Josephine are Lizzie - related to Ruth, Felicity related to Varina who is still alive, and Brooke a lawyer daughter of Marie who is a daughter of Milly as it turns out. I liked how they all developed and reacted to the various events, taking their time often to adjust. The last moments in the book are sweet.

Brooke is really a main character, she has a beautiful son Henry and a missing father for Henry that she still sort of wishes was still around. But its been three years, he doesn't know he is Henry's father and Brooke has found herself being courted by a lawyer she used to work with and now needs his help.

It kept me reading, even during a difficult time, so you might say its just the right kind of read to take your mind off real life. A story of friendship, love, sadness and loss, forgiveness and new hope.

DNF at 33%.

I have lost any interest in going any further. It is incredibly heavy with legal jargon and excessive detail. Furthermore, I did not care for the significant difference in class between Josephine and her legal team versus Josephine's employees. It was only interesting when it flashed back to the 1940s when all of the action took place.

So far, I noticed the following triggers: sexual harassment and foul language.

I don’t even know where to start! And I want to know how Mary Kay Andrews does it? Once again Andrews has created characters and storylines that keep a reader guessing ( incorrectly I might add) until the very end. I will admit it took me a few chapters to get into the story. I think I was looking for an obvious plot or a main character. While Brooke is pivotal in the story she is definitely not the only interesting character! Andrews has us jumping from the 1940’s to present time but somehow the story runs seamlessly. From the vivid descriptions of life in the 1940’s including the Jim. Crow south, we meet 4 young girls who form the High Tide Club. Fast forward to the current time and we become a part of the paths these girls traveled and how everything comes full circle. If you are a Mary Kay Andrews fan you will LOVE this book! If you have never read anything by Andrews this is a wonderful story to discover this author. I promise this will not be your last story by Mary Kay Andrews!

This is a very entertaining book, featuring intriguing characters, a decades old mystery, and many family secrets! I loved it!

The High Tide Club was a little slow to take off but once it did, I couldn't put it down. The contrast between historical and present time was really interesting and while I had a few things figured out, I was also pleasantly surprised by some of the twists and turns. A perfect beach read for those looking for a little mystery, a little history, some romance and most of all a good book!

When I saw a new Mary Kay Andrews book was coming out, I had to get my hands on a copy! The excitement was worth it, this book did not disappoint! In The High Tide Club, 99 year old Josephine calls lawyer Brooke to come meet with her. Over the course of these meetings Josephine shares long held secrets with Brooke and enlists her legal help. Told in multiple perspectives and time frames, we get to grow old with Josephine and see what caused the rift between her and her closest friends, the members of The High Tide Club. Josephine is at the end of her life and looking to make amends. This was a lovely beach read that had the right amount of suspense and mystery. For me, this was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars. Thank you @stmartinspress for this advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

This wasn't your typical Mary Kay Andrews, a little darker, and not as much laughter, but still enjoyable. It was still an easy read mystery, with interesting characters. This is a story of 4 girls in 1940 and current day, switching back and forth.

The High Tide Club was my first Mary Kay Andrews novel. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.

Drama, secrets, friendships and a couple of murders created an engaging read.

Josephine wants to bring the decendents of her dear friends from the High Tide Club together and leave them her estate to prevent the state from taking over and turning it into another state park. Unfortunately, she dies before she can make it final. This leaves the women scrambling to determine how to fulfill her wish.

Reasons for the average rating are:

The book alternates from the POV of the original members of the club in the 40’s to Brooke’s in current times. I struggled with this. It was jarring and I wish that we had more of the 40’s scenes up front.

There is just too much going on in this book. 3 deaths, 2 secret children, a psychotic lawyer, an old woman dying, and estate left in ruins and secondary characters on and off the island left me struggling to connect with the book.

I enjoyed her style of writing and would give other books of hers a chance.

It’s been quite a while since I have last read a Mary Kay Andrews book. I was expecting a more light-hearted romance and instead read a book about female bonding. While it wasn’t what I was expecting and hoping for, it was a good read nonetheless.

This is the story of women in the past as well as women in the future. The women of today are, with the expect of two individuals, all decedents of the women in the original group. The two exceptions are women, in their nineties, who formed one half of the original group.

The original group, the High Tide Club, got their name from their first meeting which was skinny dipping at night during the high tide/full moon. The young women were inseparable, that is, until a terrible event happens.

The young women are called together by the oldest surviving member of the High Tide Club. She wants to leave her island and wealth to these young women to make amends for the past.

The characters are well written and the dialog is good. The point of view alternates between the past and the present and the story of the secret emerges as stories unfold.

I enjoyed the book and would look for future books by this author that are more in the fictional literature genre than the romantic comedies that I have read in the past.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.

This book was written in past and present. The story starts with four girls starting a club to hide their secrets. As one of them is now in her nineties she wants to come clean. I think that if the story stayed on track with one story and did not add so many angles to it I would have enjoyed it more. I gave this three stars as part of it really pulled me in while other parts were hard to read.

I really liked this book. It was a little different from what I'd come to expect from Mary Kay Andrews, which is light and breezy beachy novels. This was a little heavier in terms of the themes, but it was great. I enjoyed the island setting, the Southern roots, and learning more about a time and place that I hadn't known much about. And the ending wrapped everything up in ways that I thought were just right.

I didn’t really know what this about as I skimmed the description before reading it. I assumed it was a beach-y read due to the cover and previous books I had read by Mary Kay Andrews. I WAS WRONG! This was a fast paced, suspenseful, contemporary novel with a wonderful story at its’ center. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

If you like “chick lit” story lines with a bit of mystery in them, I think you will enjoy this book. Mary Kay Andrews is a trusted author and this is the proof.

High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews came out this week! The book is a great summer read with loads of twists and turns and surprises. Mary Kay Andrews books are usually light and breezy reads perfect for a sunny day at the beach. High Tide Club is no different as it was a fun read. There were some elements of mystery, twists and turns that were not totally a surprise, but were unexpected.

Josephine Bettendorf Warrick is dying and has decided to leave her home and land to her best friends growing up. Two of the friends have died, but they had children who had children. Brooke Trappnell goes out to Talisa Island to meet with Josephine to help save the home and find the missing descendents. That is until she realizes she is one of them. This leads Brooke to reach out to her old boss to help her with the estate issue since it would be unethical, if she took the case. Things get even more interesting when the cast of characters show up and stories start be shared. Then the interesting turns to murder and confusion and more twists.

I enjoyed the book The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews. The story was interesting and layered with various secrets slowly being unveiled. The characters were quirky and the story lines interesting. The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews was a good read.

I very much enjoyed reading The High Tide Club. Taking place on a unique and secluded island off the shore of Georgia, this book took many unexpected twists and turns of events. Spanning from long ago friendships, to their current time ancestors, the characters experienced surprising proof of family ties, as well as resolving an unusual estate. This novel was a fast and wonderful read! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the early reader edition. All opinions are my own.
