Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
This is the first part in a series where the author treats us to Tash's story.
Tash was not the most likeable person, but I can understand her. She is not happy and when you don't feel good, you snap people's head off. Do I agree with this behaviour? No, I don't but I see where she comes from. The best solution is to get rid of the problem, but that's not always so easy either.
When you had an unhappy youth where you were often bullied and nobody paid you any attention in a positive way, it seems like heaven on earth when someone lavishes you with presents and attention. You bask in it and you feel like the most loved and important person on the planet. Wanting to know where someone is every minute of the day has to mean that you matter a lot or is it more a question of manipulation and being kept on a tight leash?
From an unsure person you transformed into someone confident, but is that still who you are?
Some people can escape, others will be taken prisoner for the rest of their lives...
It's devastating to see how someone can make you or break you.
I liked this story where the bad one gets what he deserves, old friends sticking by you and new love finds you. 4 stars
Thank you
I really enjoyed this book. Likeable characters, a bully to be dealt with, a hunky hero and a couple of adorable dogs. I don't know why it took me so long to start reading it but once I did I read it in a day. So happy to see there are more books in the series.
A wonderful read with charming characters and an engaging plot!! I look forward to reading more by this author.
I couldn't stand the way Tash had rude thoughts about overweight characters, she seemed to very judgemental about how much people weighed and about how much food some characters ate over other characters. The title of this book should be The Little Book Club instead of The Little Book Cafe since a lot of the story revolves around the characters in a book club. I found the characters to be second rate with no depth or development to them.
Lovely feel good story. It was well written and flowed well. Easy to read and hard to put down. Perfect on these summer nights
This is book one in a new series. I really enjoyed it and found it to be an enjoyable read. I was hooked until the last page. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
This was an enjoyable read, i don't feel like I got to know all the characters that much but still an enjoyable read.
I received a free copy of this ebook ARC from the author, Netgalley, and the publishing company in exchange for an honest review. I did enjoy this book but there didn't seem to be much of a reading group going on and the book was over too quickly. I enjoyed reading about Tash though.
This was the first title I'd read by Georgia Hill and I'm so glad I did. I raced through this title and enjoyed every minute of it. I love the setting of Berecombe and the friendly array of characters within it. It was interesting seeing the sinister side of one of the characters develop and how the truth finally comes to light. Can't wait to return to Berecombe for the next installment.
Fantastic book, where we are reunited with Millie (although she takes a backseat only making brief appearances). This is the first instalment in a series of three and I look forward to reading the others.
Tasha has it all - a job she loves at the Estate Agents, a loving boyfriend and a beautiful home. That should silence the haters who bullied and teased her at school about her weight and her glasses!! However, having joined a Book Club in Millie’s cafe (run by the lovely Amy) and met the delectable Kit she soon comes to realise that having all of this won’t necessarily make her happy and is her boyfriend really only looking out for her or is there something more sinister in his actions?
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Estate agent Tash doesn't need a book club, after all she has her wonderful boyfriend Adrian . She has the cream of the crop of men, he's rich, spoils her silly and is oh so good looking. She goes to the fanciest restaurants and has the snazziest clothing and lives in the best neighborhood. She is the envy of all her friends. As of late Adrian has become pretty clingy. Deciding to go to the book club her friend runs after all to check it out she is more interested in checking out Kit, a new man to the book club. He is a breath of fresh , with his smooth good looks and calm laid back manner. When Tash just isn't herself anymore, forgetting things, not feeling well, mood change etc. Adrian is right there to possessively take care of her. When a very surprising secret is revealed is Adrian really all he's cracked up to be? I read another book in this series and enjoyed both books in the series a lot.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Harper Impulse and Killer Reads through NetGalley. Thank you! All opinions expressed are my own.
if the other books in this series are as good as this one then I'm hooked. loved loved loved it. tash meets new people but the controlling boyfriend is still lurking in the background. hooked me in from the first page. English country town, books, what more could a girl ask for.
Enjoyed this, and it had a little bit more substance than the usual 'chick lit' books. The main character, Tash, is in a relationship with an unpleasant and controlling man, Adrian, and the story shows her blossoming as she joins the local book club at the insistence of her friend. The warm-hearted characters she meets there help her to see that her relationship is toxic, and come to her aid. I understand this is the first of a series, and I would be happy to read following books.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.
Review work in progress, but I have to start by saying, be cautious when picking up this book and do not be fooled by the super cutesy and warm-looking book cover. I made the mistake of reading this book right after binge-reading a bunch of children's book, thinking that this is chick-lit at most and would be full of fluff; there is no fluff. Possible trigger-ish. It's not a bad book per se, and I think, if chosen to lengthen the book, it actually could be a good suspense/mystery, problem is, that was not why I requested the book.
3-star at most, and not because it was unexpected, but because I don't feel like I really got to know the characters. The plot was actually okay, just that I wasn't attached to the main characters, and the male lead is pretty forgettable.
I enjoyed the first part of The Little Book Cafe series. I thought it would be more light hearted - there some dark themes that I didn’t expect. Overall, it’s a quick read that kept me interested.
Amazing book! Keeps you hooked to the very last page! I nice easy read! I will be making sure I look out for more from this author in the future.
This week I have something a bit different on the blog. Not one review, but actually 3! I got the chance to get two arcs through netgalley from the series The Little Book Café. The series exist of 3 novella’s who together make up the overall story. Today I am sharing with you the first novella The Little Book Café: Tash’s Story!
As a booklover, bookblogger and booktuber I was of course drawn to a book that is called The Little Book Café. And then we are not even talking about the inviting cover. I just have a thing for covers that make me feel cozy and welcome.
In the first book we follow Tash, a local estate agent who seems to have it all. A loving boyfriend, fancy house, lots a money, great job… But soon that picture perfect life turns out to be a whole lot less perfect.
I am a little bit mixed up about the first installment in the series. I didn’t really enjoy it, because I truly disliked Tash, the main character. And I even feel a bit guilty about that, because Tash is going trough a lot and I should feel sorry for her. On some level I do, but mainly I despise her. She is a very egocentric, selfish person. And I didn’t really buy the story that this was all because a man had changed her. I understand that Adrian played a huge, horrible part in her life and but his mark on her. But she seemed a bit of a golddigger and a stuck up brat, that is something she was all on her own. Without any help from men .
I wanted to feel sorry for her, but I just could. And honestly that is hard to do because this story deals with abusive relationships. It is not a light and fluffy read about a book club and friends. Although there are some really funny, quirky bits and pieces. But mainly it focusses on bad relationships and it has some really psycho moments. Moments that will make you think an realize there are women out there who are confronted with this in everyday life. That is what makes it so difficult to say I actually didn’t like it as a whole. I absolutely loved how it handled the abusive relationship, especially because she picture a very danger form of abuse.
It might be because it’s a novella, but I had some problems with the overall setting of the story to. Sometimes it felt a bit rushed. It felt like the reader needed some background on all the friendships and internal affairs going on. You didn’t get the time to taste and explore history between all the characters. That left me a bit confused at times, especially because there are quite a lot of side characters.
All in all for me it felt a little bit short. You could see the potential, but it just didn’t come out in this story. I am very excited however to see Emma’s story. Because she really spoke to me as side character.
Review will be posted on my blog on 26/11/2018
This is a really good short story. Tash's story is full of emotion. I was sad to get to the end of it. I wanted to know more about her and what happened to Adrian. I felt that what was happening to Tash was written about in an understanding and sympathetic way.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
This is the first Georgia Hill book I have read. I read it in one sitting in about an hour and a half so a fairly easy book to pick up and read when you want something to delve into but maybe not commit a massive amount of time.
I have no prior knowledge of any of previous books so wasn't aware or familiar with the characters but I believe that if you have read previous titles you would be. I don't think it changes your enjoyment of this book, as a standalone it works well too. I didn't feel I'd missed out. This is the first in a set of three new stories and focuses on Tash.
Tash is in a relationship with Adrian and immediately I realised this was not a woman in a happy relationship. She was off with friends, in a bad mood and generally not a happy lady. You come to see how, although she loves the comfortable and lavish lifestyle Adrian can give her, she doesn't love him and in fact she comes to realise he isn't treating her that well at all. Possessive, controlling and demeaning - Adrian is not the type of man Tash wants to be with let alone marry.
Tash meets someone at the new book club in town. With their help, and a series of incidents Tash realises she needs to move on with her life in her own way. After events take a really dark turn, Tash manages to escape and turns to the one person she knows will treat her well.
Some aspects of the story annoyed me - the thinly veiled 'fat shaming' vibe of Tash towards Amy, "She could eat the whole picnic" - I felt were just mean and I admit made me dislike her a bit. Not that I think she should go through all she does but I think she has turned into the bully she didn't like at school.
Overall I liked it and would read all others by the author. Their is a darker storyline involved that the pretty front cover presents. It is an easy read with some decent characters.
I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
