Thank you so much for this ARC!

Wow! This was AMAZING.

Loads of money, corruption, lies, international destinations and strong female leads = perfect plot.

This book was un-put-down-able for me. I never wanted it to end but couldn't wait to see how the issues resolved.

I cannot wait to see what Cristina Alger comes up with next. Definitely a writer to watch!

The Banker’s Wife is a page-turning thriller without the mind games of psychological thrillers. I learned so much about off-shore banking and I was intrigued by how easy it seems to hide money to avoid paying taxes.

There was one character in the book that surprised me, but I don’t want to give any spoilers, so I won’t mention why I was surprised. I honestly didn’t see the ending coming and I like that in a thriller!

Be sure to check this book out on its release date, July 3! It would be the perfect read for the July 4th holiday weekend!

Matthew Werner is an American executive banker who moves to Geneva dealing to be a highly paid banker working for Swiss United. One morning he boards a plane with another young woman. His plan goes down. His widow, Annabel is left grieving. However, there are clues that Matthew was involved in something much bigger than he ever let Annabel know. Was he murdered because of something he did?
Meanwhile, Marina Tourneau, a society journalist, is about to end her career since she is engaged to the son of a future presidential candidate. However, after her good friend and coworker's suspicious death, she agrees to work on one more story. The story happens to be the sinister underworld dealings of the Swiss United. Marina is determined to find out who is responsible for her friend's death and bring them to justice no matter what it takes.
This book is thrilling and well-written.

This is a writer to watch. The plot moves very quickly and the characters, strong females particularly, are very well drawn. One begins to care about them and you can't put this book down. Who knew a book about banking could be so exciting?

All I can say is Wow. Ms. Alger has written a book that captured you from the first words. I just kept wanting to know if the 3 women characters you come to admire make it to the end with their lives intact.

This is a summer release and it will be a great pool/beach book but really you should read it any where.

I so love it when I can say, I did not see that coming! This book is a wonderful fast paced thriller! A must read during the lazy hazy days of summer!

I really enjoyed Alger's first two books (The Darlings and This Was Not the Plan), and her latest is another solid story, with some intriguing twists and interesting characters. Alger heads back to the world of her first book, The Darlings, and in fact, some overlapping characters in the journalists who investigated the SEC schemes of a wealthy well-to-do family. This time around, we have another wealthy NYC family, but this time their hands are in corrupt politics and money laundering (some like some headlines over the last year??). The story is told through two viewpoints: Marina, the independent, intelligent news reporter who just happens to be engaged to the son whose dad is announcing his candidacy for president, but there's a few skeletons in that dark rich closet; and Annabel, the wife of a young international banker, working in Switzerland and recently killed in a suspicious plane crash. As Alger strings all the pieces together, so do Annabel and Marina in a taut plot line, with some surprising twists that kept me turning the page. Alger is very good at slowly developing characters so be patient - it is worth it.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a fast paced thriller with great characters. It centers around a crooked offshore bank that will stop at nothing to silence its enemies. Really fun read. I recommend it to everyone.

The Banker’s Wife is a globe trotting thriller that grabbed my attention instantly and held it throughout. It switches back and forth between Marina, a journalist and Annabel a recently widowed young woman and I loved both of these clever, strong women. They were both incredibly well drawn and believable, and falling down the rabbit hole of offshore banking alongside them was quite the wild ride.

There was a slick sophistication to this one, the setting took me from Geneva and the world of high class Swiss banking to New York and the world of high powered politics and then to small town France just to name a few of the exotic locales Alger explored and they were all beautifully depicted. While the plot focused on banking, something I know next to nothing about, Alger did a fantastic job of explaining the finer details in layman’s terms. I was never confused or bored, rather I was riveted and desperate to find out the truth about what really went down.

I hate to even mention this because thrillers really shouldn’t appeal to one gender over the other, but I kept thinking while I was reading this that my husband would love the storyline, so I would definitely recommend to males as well as females, it had an edginess that I think men would be drawn to and I know my husband wouldn’t be interested in half of the thrillers I read but this one would be a surefire hit.

The Banker’s Wife in three words: Slick, Sophisticated and Twisty.

Strong female characters (who are not "unreliable" for a change!), financial crimes, billions of dollars tied up in crimes, mysterious deaths - what more could you ask for in this financial thriller from Cristina Alger? When journalists begin an investigation into offshore bank accounts that are hiding billions of dollars and all the sudden bodies begin turning up left and right of those who have connections to the money or knowledge of shady doing? Well, I guess you will need to read The Banker’s Wife to find out what comes next! (And trust me, you want to know...)

Wow. Private bankers, offshore accounts, journalists and plenty of illegalities to keep things interesting, The Bankers Wife explores a little known world of private banking, money and murder. From the U.K. to Geneva to the US and the Caribbean, no one who has inside information is safe. A rare 5 stars from me for this intriguing thriller that will keep you on your toes throughout. Alger should seek a screenwriter next, as this story is fantastic and also screams blockbuster!

3.5 stars

I have this 50 page rule when reading books--if you don't hook me in the first 50 pages, I'm out.  Too many books, too little time and so on.  I nearly dropped The Banker's Wife before that 50 page mark simply because I was bored with it and I couldn't seem to get into it.  Looking at other reviews, I'm not alone here.  I did see potential in Alger's writing, however, so I pushed on past that 50 page barrier just to see if things picked up.  I'm glad I did because The Banker's Wife turned into one little firecracker of a novel real quick.

I don't feel like I got to know the characters as much as I could have throughout the book--Annabel remained aloof for me--but what is lacking in character development is more than made up by a twisty turny plot that surprised even this seasoned reader!  I enjoyed the back and forth perspectives of Marina and Annabel, even if sometimes I had to backtrack to remember whose p.o.v. I was reading at the time if I'd put the book down for a bit.

The Banker's Wife would have been a solid four stars for me had it hooked me and kept me interested at the beginning.  Perseverance pays off with this one, especially if you enjoy financial/political intrigue and plucky female leads who save the day.

REVIEW

Cristina Alger fully transitions into the world of writing international thrillers with her newest work The Banker’s Wife. This is hands down one of the best of the genre that I have read in the last several years. It is a fast-moving and unpredictable book that intersects international banking with journalism, but what makes it sing is the depth of characters that Alger is able to develop.

Annabel Werner is the titular banker’s wife, and readers are able to follow her as she attempts to discover how her husband died, as things are not quite as authorities and her husband’s employer would have her believe. Then there’s journalist Marina Tourneau, who is set to leave her career behind to marry into a political family until one last story pulls her in. Nothing is as it seems, and that’s what makes a thriller unable to put down. This is one I could not put down.

“Readers riding this international financial roller coaster will be kept on edge through its many twists and turns. Highly recommended for fans of fast-paced thrillers in the tradition of John Grisham.”—Library Journal

The Banker's Wife by Cristina Alger starts a little slow. The story is told mostly by two of the main characters with occasional input from a third voice. Although dealing with a complicated subject Ms Alger manages to make it easy to read and understand. I was given an early copy to review.

This story is told in the voices of three strong women. One is Annabelle, the wife of a private banker named Mattthew, that is killed in a plane crash. The second one is Zoe, assistant to Matthew The third is a journalist named Marina who has just been given the story of a lifetime to investigate, All three women's lives will intertwine in the most action packed, nerve-wracking story that I have read, ever. I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. If you are a fan of thrillers, or even just strong female characters, then this is the perfect book for you!

A plane has crashed in the high Alps, and there are no survivors. One of the victims was a private banker in the employ of Swiss United. His widow soon learns that there were a lot of things her husband had been keeping from her. Starting with the fact that he had been in London with an extremely beautiful client and not where he said he’d be.
A novel of three very brave women who try to right wrongs and fight for justice despite enormous personal risk. They are up against some of the most powerful and ruthless men in the world, who will stop at nothing to preserve their secrets. Intricately plotted with a few surprising twists, this is a nail-biter of a story. I was on pins and needles wondering how the story was going to turn out and if everyone survives. If you enjoy suspenseful thrillers like I do, then you’ve got to read this.

What a fast paced interesting book! This is a story that has many different characters that play big roles in the plot. I found that the author did a good job in the writing because I didn't have any trouble keeping track of who was who and what they were doing which is impressive with that many characters. Even though I am a banker's wife (true fact), I had no knowledge of this world.

I highly recommend this book if you want a book that you can get lost in and won't want to put down.

I received an ARC from NetGalley. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

An interesting take on the Swiss banking industry and its ties to criminals. Told from the perspective of Annabel, the wife of a banker whose plane crashes and Marina, the reporter following the story who is engaged to the presidential hopeful' s son. The story is a page turner that has some surprises as well as some predictability.
