I think maybe part of the problem with my read of this novel was that I guessed the big secret pretty early on, and then it became hard to stay invested with the characters. I also didn't think that Emily and Robbie 'fit' together very well - I couldn't really see the love, more that they were drawn together. In all honesty, she did seem to have a better relationship with Christopher, although I understand that that isn't how love works! Cohen's descriptions are wonderful and her character interactions believable. The novel just flows. I will always pick up a Cohen novel with great excitement and anticipation and that hasn't changes; I just didn't like the secret that unfolded here and felt it was signposted too heavily.
