OMG - so so many laugh out loud moments. They just kept coming. Loved all the characters and there were a lot of characters. It did take some paying attention to the different groups and which characters were with them. No slow parts in this one. Full speed ahead with tons of action. Romance parts were well timed. Overall this book was a fantastic read and I can't wait to get the next one. I received an ebook at no charge for which I voluntarily provided an honest review.
The first in this brand new series by Shelly Laurenston is just as fun and crazy as her other books. When Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan comes running into Berg’s life, he simply cannot just let her go, especially when it seems like she is in trouble. Running from people trying to kill her, you can already get the feeling that this book is going to be a wild ride. With larger-than-life characters and hilarious jokes, these characters will definitely make you laugh and steal your heart at the same time.
I always enjoy reading the ridiculous antics that Laurenston puts her characters through. You can never really take these books too seriously and that’s really the main reason why I enjoy them. They are out of the box and creative and there are really no limits that this author won’t cross. This book is quite violent, so if you’re the type to balk at that kind of stuff, you’ll probably be offended. That’s why I said you can’t take things too seriously here.
I’m looking forward to the next books in the series. These honey badgers are freaking hilarious and I’m pretty sure you can expect more crazy times with them in the future.
I loved the idea that the three half-sisters were, Black (Charlie), Asian (Max) and Caucasian (Stevie), yet so close and loyal that nothing could come between them. They were there for each other and would kill for each other.
When someone starts coming after the hybrid MacKilligan girls, Charlie, Max and Stevie know the drill. They have to stick together, learn their father's part in it, and defend each other to the death. Normally only able to rely on each other, they are shocked when Berg Dunn and his siblings take the girls into the bear neighborhood of Queens, NY to keep them safe until they can determine the threat Freddy (their father) as brought on them.
Fighting and hilarity ensue as the girls fight their way out of trouble and endear themselves to their new bear friends, as Charlie and Berg fall in love.
This is a spin-off of the Pride series. Mostly the characters from Wolf With Benefits. You will read about the Van Holtz's, Dee-Ann Smith, Livy and Kyle Jean-Louis Parker (who is now 17) again.
I loved every moment of it. I love this authors writing and these characters. I can't wait for more.
I think nothing is off limits with this story. My mind is reeling trying to keep track of all of it. There are lots of bi-species characters, a bunch of backstory that I didn’t quite understand, and fun time.
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book and I loved it
I liked the relationship between Charlie and Berg. They were so good for each other because he accepted her and her sisters and all of their crazy antics and she liked him and all of his weirdness. They were funny and while the romance took a while to bloom...I mean they hadn't even kissed until the halfway point of the book...it was still a great book.
Overall this book was great. If you are a huge fan of the series than you will love this book because there are some great cameos from previous characters. Now if you have not read this series do not worry you will still love this book because the series can be enjoyed in or out of order.
Absolute insanity, but in a great way. I love these mentally ill, multi racial, multi species trio of sisters so much. So many great cameo’s by beloved characters, and introductions of new ones who are becoming fav’s of mine as well. Full of action, comedy, and a great new story arch for this world. I didn’t want the book to end, I can not wait for the next book in this series.
I loved the start of the book. I also liked the characters. What kept this from being a five star was the backstory. Not that it was bad but it was a spin off from a previous series and at times I felt left out about relationships between the main characters and some of the side characters. I did love Charlie and her sisters. Berg was a real sweet heart and just right for Charlie. The story line was interesting. There was never a dull moment with plenty of action to go with the romance.
I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.
I admit I hoard my five star ratings, one because I’m a picky reader and two, it takes a lot for me to love a book. Whether it’s the story line, the characters or the love story, I need to love it all to ship it. And I was lucking enough to read two amazing books in a row that definitely deserved the 5 star rating I’m dishing out. Hot and Badgered is one of them and not only did this warrant a 5 star rating, it’s also one of the best books of 2018 (I know, it’s barely March, but trust me, this book was amaze-balls and it will be tough to dethrone at this point), yes, I’m calling this one early!
Holy cow did this blow me away! I need the honey badger to be my spirit animal and can Charlie, Max and Stevie *pretty please* be my new best friends?!?! Everyone needs these bad ass bitches in their corner. No. Joke.
This was such an explosion of amazingness from page one that I am kicking myself for not reading it as soon as it hit my kindle. I loved everything about it and I’m hard core girl crushing on the crazy, adorable, slightly psychotic perfection that is the MacKilligan sisters.
Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston is book One in The Honey Badgers series. This is the story of Berg Dunn and Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan.
Charlie is the oldest of her sisters and very protective of them which sometimes lead from one thing to another happening to them. Berg steps in to help Charlie during one of these times.
This book does have a few other characters that were really enjoyable. Overall this was a great read and I will be looking for more books by Ms. Laurenston.
Hot and Badgered was crazy but good. It was funny, action packed, inappropriate in so many ways and sexy. I enjoyed every minute of its crazy-goodness. I loved the characters both main and secondary, there are a lot of them but all so lovable well except the villains. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series not only to revisit these characters but also for the resolution to what's brewing.
Shelly Laurenston books are always a must read every time!
This is part of the pack books and now focuses on honey badgers and those around them.
Charlie is a wolf/honey badger shifter with her 2 half sisters Max a full honey badge and Stevie a tiger/honey badger.
The sisters are constantly having to help their youngest sister Stevie who is a prodigy and is about to be kidnapped again, yes again!
Shelly creates a world you want to be part of and it in equal parts makes you laugh and cringe.
Berg is a triplet with his sister Britta and brother Dag they end up helping out the sisters mainly because Berg is drawn to Charlie in the mate/attraction way of this world.
We get to meet previous characters from other series to see them moved on with their mates and in some cases children too.
This series means I get a lot of fun reading and a mixture of action and hot sex scenes.
Charlie is s fixer for her family and keeping her siblings in line, I like how Shelly has included people with anxiety disorders too which is always good to let other people learn about them and how people handle them.
Hot and Badgered is the first book in Shelly Laurenston's newest paranormal series about honey badger sisters. And if you are a fan of Ms. Laurenston then you know that this is going to be awesome with female empowered plot, great but definitely flawed female leads and violent, lots and lots of it. I have been hooked with this author's shifter series and I don't think I will ever get tired of them anytime soon. Fair warning though, a lot of secondary characters are cameos of main characters from her other books which sometimes distracts me but not enough to derail the whole storyline. Hot and Badgered introduces us to the MacKilligan sisters, Charlie, Max and Stevie. Same dad, different mothers which resulted in well in the shifter world, honey badger hybrids except for Max who is pure honey badger and maybe a psychopath as well. These sisters have been through a lot all because of their no good dad and it is usually up to level headed Charlie to keep them safe and most importantly together. When another of their dad's harebrained schemes goes wrong, the sisters are again caught in the middle. This time around though, they suddenly find themselves with Bear shifter allies one of which can mean a possible happily ever after for Charlie. All they need now is to get rid of their father, save their cousins wedding and save the shifter world from being outed to humans and they can finally go ho!me to Queens! As I said, if you love chaos in your shifter romances with strong empowered and neurotic female leads, strong and supportive male heroes and crazy violent villains who are out to destroy the world then better start reading Hot and Badgered, its a great starting point for Shelly Laurenston's wild and fantastic paranormal shifter world!
Hot and Badgered is the first in a new series by the amazing Shelly Laurenston. This author has no limits to the craziness she inflicts on her characters, and no matter how ridiculous the situation, she always gets them through with flair! Shelly Laurenston is just one of those authors that you just have to suspend belief and go with the flow, but boy, it is so worth it.
Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan and her sisters are completely nuts but in the best way possible. Laurenston has the ability to produce tough, wisecracking characters who are truly likable and have a heart, often buried under a gruff exterior.
Hot and Badgered is shaping up to be one of Shelly Laurenston’s craziest and funniest series yet, I can’t wait to see what she is going to inflict on her characters next!
I’d recommend this book to anyone who is willing not to take anything too seriously, who loves a good laugh combined with an emotional core, and just wants to enjoy the rollercoaster that is Hot and Badgered.
Humor and the unexpected. Charlie and her sisters believe they are cursed and all because of their father. They are part of a big family, but not, because the family doesn't acknowledge them. Someone is trying to kill her and her middle sister and kidnap her baby sister. Can they figure out who and stop them? Where can they stay safe until they figure it out?
Berg understands family. He lives and works with his brother and sister and they're triplets. He meets Charlie and wants to help her but in order to do that, he has to accept her sisters too. Somehow he convinces Charlie that he has the perfect place for her to stay to hide out from the people after her and her sisters. Together they set out to solve the problem and in the process Berg hopes to get Charlie to take a chance on him.
There's appearances from some of my favorites from previous books and twists and turns that make for a great read.
I'm gonna admit something. I thought this was a porny honey badger book when I got it.
And I was dying to read it....because...
The hot times don't even happen until 75%..and it's just one time. *Insert sad face here.*
But all was not a total loss. This book is about the three MacKilligan sisters. They all are kinda crazy. I like that in my characters so I settled in to see what they would get up too.
The sisters are all half sister shifters. They all got the honey badger part from their worthless father..
(who is totally this guy in my head.)
Then each sister has their own special talents. Charlie who is a mix of wolf/honey badger, she just doesn't shift into her animals. She really doesn't need it anyways. Max who is might be psychotic. Then we have the baby of the family who spends time in mental institutes when she needs and break from being a genius 20ft tiger/honey badger.
Just your regular neighborhood girls...
Some parts of the story did seem to drag and their were a ton of characters that just didn't seem needed to me. However, I still had pure fun with this family and will probably break one of my own (not followed) rules and read the next one in the series. Because you never can have enough honey badger in your life. For reals.
Booksource: Netgalley in exchange for review.
I just have to repeat how much I ADORE this author. I don't know if another has ever made me laugh as much. The MacKilligan sisters are just the best! The antics, the high-strung obsessions, the fights ..there is so much to love about this book.
FULL REVIEW
Charlie Taylor-Mackilligan is the protector over her two sisters. She has had to be, thanks to her cursed father. Her sisters can take care of themselves but together three of them are a force to be reckoned with and unstoppable. When she lands on a balcony after being attacked she gets assistance from Berg Dunn a grizzly shifter, it is short, bloody, and sweet but Berg can't get Charlie out of his mind.
Back home Berg finds himself in front of Charlie again. Realizing her family needs help he steps in because he knows he wants a date with Charlie. How do you date a woman who believes she is cursed? Simple stay by her side and get under her skin without her realizing it.
I have been waiting for this book for awhile and cleared my calendar so I could just savor all the goodness that this book brought. One of the best so far and you get little cameos from some of your favorite characters from other books. Loved Berg, he is relaxed and lets Charlie do her thing. The sisters are a hoot. Several surprises and I cannot wait for more more more.
I have been waiting for Hot and Badgered for eons! First, I thought I snagged an ARC but then learned it was only for the first chapter. Even though I’m not a sneak peak kind of girl, mainly because I have zero patience, I read it and was intense and funny and had me wanting the full story right freaking then. See. No patience. Then I waited, and I waited some more. When I finally scored the full arc I was doing cartwheels. I dove in and it was every bit the snarky, violently hilarious funfest I expected.
The three MacKilligan sisters have had a tough life constantly being dragged into their POS father’s crazy schemes. If they could find him and kill him off life would be so much simpler. Only one of the three sisters is a full honey badger, the other two are mixed breeds with Charlie being half wolf/half honey badger. These three are as close as close can be and are extremely protective of each other which is good because hybrid shifters have it tough in this world.
Charlie’s job has been to protect her baby sisters since her Mom was killed. With as crazy as her sisters are and as much trouble as they always seem to be in, Berg surprised her. The cute grizzly that kept popping up at opportune times (like when bad guys are bent on killing her). He actually went out of his way to help her and took her and her sisters to the safest place he knows, his bear neighborhood.
Between kidnapping and assassination attempts, grumpy bears getting their precious bee hives raided and none other than the Group getting in the midst of things, this was one crazy ride. Having Dee-Ann Smith, the most obnoxious, maddening, Group operative of them all getting a little lesson in humility was just the icing on my snarky and fun cake.
Berg was perfect as he did his best to “stray dog” his way into Charlie’s heart. He was a perfect mix of sweet teddy bear and gruff growly grizzly. Charlie was the sanest of the three sisters, but that really wasn’t saying a lot. She was loyal to her sisters and hell on anyone who crossed them.
Charlie and Berg had great chemistry, but once again the romance took a bit of a back seat to everything else going on. This was mostly A-okay with me though, since I had such a good time reading it. I can’t wait to read more honey badger stories. These books have always been insane, but the honey badgers seem to have ramped that up a few notches.
Rating: 4.5 Stray Doggin’ It Stars
#HoneyBadgersRule because this was a smart, sexy, laugh out loud (really!) action packed story with never, not a one, dull moment!
We get to meet the three Honey Badger sister, connected by their father, with different mothers. This is the story of Charlie, and we get to know her and her sisters Max and Stevie. Charlie is half-wolf, but can't shift. Max is full honey badger, and came to live with Charlie and her mom when her mom went to prison. Stevie is half-Siberian tiger, and her mom dropped her off with Charlie's mom for an afternoon and never came back. The story starts with the three sisters arriving at Charlie's grandfathers pack after her mom was killed by bad guys after her dad. Dangerous, even as children, you know what you are getting
What we get is a persistant grizzly named Berg, who is a triplet, and lives with his brother and sister, who falls for Charlie the moment she drops in naked in his hotel room. She ends up crossing his path again, and he tries to pursue her. She likes him, but feels her family is cursed, so warns him away. He doesn't give up, and before they both know it, they are in a relationship
Crazy is too tame a word for the antics of the characters in the book, insane is a better term. We get to see where so many of our favourites from the pride series are now, a few years later, and the Parker-Louis family is front and centre, along with a teenage Kyle. There were a few times I had to stop reading because I was laughing too much
If you have been waiting for the Honey Badgers, you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a fun read, you will love this. If you like some action and mystery with your romance, this has that too. In other words, this probably has something you are looking for, so give it a read!
Hot and badgered Shelly Laurenston
A world of the pride is back and better than ever, with an introduction to new characters and a return of old. It’s been 5 long years since we were first introduced to the world of the honey badger and 4 years since the author released a book within her Pride world and Hot and Badgered was the perfect book to break the 4 year silence.
The first book in a 3 book mini series created in the Pride world Hot and badgered is the introduction to the Mackilligan sisters and a whole new shifter breed, she’s introduced us to Honey Badgers and now she introduced Wolverines! Get set to welcome the crazy the Mackilligan’s are here and they aren’t your normal brand or Honey Badger crazy.
Half Honey Badger half Wolf the eldest of the sisters is Charlie and Hot and Badgered tells her story and how she falls for a Bear shifter Berg. Action packed from the start the first few chapters contain an attempted hit, jumping from one hotel room to another landing in bergs arms, a car chase and oh so much more the excitement abounds with this book. I loved Chairlie the way she managed her family throughout the book and how she was slow to realise that Berg was the one for her.
For me Shelly Laurenston isn’t just a TBR she is a must read her books whether from her writings as Shelly of GA Aiken filled with fun characters entertaining plots worlds I just want to hear more from. Hot and Badgered was a fun book to read another 5 star read from a favourite author. My only disappointment as ever with an SL book is that it is all fiction and one of her hot hero’s won’t find his way to me.
