If you are a lover of Hip Hop then this is a book for you. It was so insightful and showed one man's admirable progress and drive as he left his criminal activity behind him for an introspective life, leaning towards one of goodness, kindness and love of himself and others. This book gave good insight into the hip-hop culture and lifestyle and showed just how easy it can be to become embroiled in a life of crime and how difficult it is to leave that sort of self-destructive life behind you once and for all. It was a very interesting read, one that will stay with me.
Tarzan epitomizes that young man who, despite aiming for betting things, can’t seem to avoid trouble. His inability results in him having to flee to Jamaica from Brooklyn and start life again, after a stint in prison.
On the island of Jamaica, the dancehall scene, and of course a special woman, become dangerous obsessions that lead Tarzan into a situation that proves hazardous.
The portrayal of some aspects of Jamaica made it hard for me to suspend disbelief at times. However, the story was engaging and kept me flipping the pages. The ending was not exactly unexpected, given the circumstances, but it wasn’t how I wanted to see things play out since I was invested in the characters.
If you like a fast-paced read with danger and suspense, then pick up King of the Dance Hall.
When I was sent a copy, I wasn't sure i was going to like the story, because it's in a genre that I really don't read. It took me a little longer than normal, but the storyline was pretty good, and I also enjoyed the transformation and growth of the main character Tarzan. The ending was a total shocker. I was really not expecting it to end the way it did. Thank you Net Galley for the ARC
Tarzan's story is a very interesting one. I didn't know much about the Jamaican dancehalls, but this story revived my love of reggae music.
Nick has done a marvelous job.
Highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy Street Lit, due to the language and violence.
