The Other Woman by Sandie Jones is a thriller to be released soon. Thanks to NetGalley for the hook-up on this one. Emily follows in love with Adam. Everything is great, except for one major issue - His mother. No matter what she does, his mother is hostile and seems set on sabotaging the relationship. This one was intense y'all. Eventually, Emily and Adam get engaged, and his mother pulls out all the stops in the wedding planning process like WHOA. I will say that this one had a twist at the end that I did not see coming at all. It was legit one of those "WAIT WHAT?!?" moments that is precisely why I love a good thriller. Oh, and I would not recommend reading this if you are in any sort of wedding planning process. Even if your future mother-in-law is amazing, there were an endless array of stressful situations presented that you just don't need to consider.
Read this book if - You love a thriller that keeps you on edge to the very end. You love a thriller that is riddled with stress and suspense about what the heck might happen next.
I just finished reading The Other Woman by Sandie Jones and what a great read. The book kept you going until the very end and I was as usual surprised at the ending. Never saw it coming! That said it was the ending that got me questioning the prologue which had sent me in a totally different direction. I think I have finally figured it out but I will let that be because it’s a real game changer and would ruin the book for many. I give the book 4 stars because of the uncertainty of the prologue. Again, thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
3.5 boy was she manipulative stars
"A car is like a mother-in-law - if you let it, it will rule your life." (Jamie Lerner)
Emily meets Adam and the wheels spin and romance is in the air. Emily had previously been in a relationship where she has lost her main squeeze to her best friend having come upon them in what might be classified as a compromising position. Devastated Emily, finds eventually a man who she think is her perfect man, Adam. He is loving, generous, kind, handsome, and wealthy. He is a wonderful package all tied up perfectly and love blooms ever so quickly. Their romance takes off and soon it is time for Emily to meet Adam's mother, Pammie. ...and wow! the sparks start to fly as Pammie who is a master manipulator, twists words and actions to make it appear that Emily is always in the wrong. Adam and his brother dote on mommie dearest and turn a very deaf ear to Emily's protestations. This is a real recipe for disaster as Pammie does what she does so well, manipulates and plays a merciless and exploitative game with Emily. Will this relationship and future marriage have this couple even getting to the altar? Would you stay with a man who always seems to take his mother's side?
Ms Jones takes us on a wild ride with these characters, making those of us who ever had nasty mother in laws cheer Emily on. We think we know the inner workings of Pammie. We have met her type before. We know she thinks that her son is perfect and that no woman alive will ever be good enough. However, there is a major twist in he road and as they author weaves all of this together, we are hit with a surprise as all is revealed and as often is the case all is not as it seems.
I enjoyed this tale of manipulation and exploration of a mother son relationship oftentimes wishing I could help Emily have Pammie take a very long walk off a very short pier.
Many thinks to Sandie Jones, Minotaur Books and NetGalley for a copy of this fast paced thriller.
The Other Woman is Sandi Jones debut thriller, but reading this book, I was surprised how good it was -and a first book! This book is a psychological thriller. The plot twists and turns and I did not know what to expect after a while, and then it takes an ultimate shocking turn that left me speechless.
Adam and Emily fall in love, and they really seem like the perfect couple. Only there is one problem with them- Adam's mother in the shadows trying to wreck their relationship. Pammie, Adam's mother will stop at nothing to destroy Emily and Adam's love and put a rift between them forever.
When Emily and Adam are forced to cancel their wedding as Pammie says she has breast cancer, Emily is devastated. She has tried to explain how his Mother treats her behind his back but he does not believe her. He acts like nothing is amiss and it is all in Emily's head.
You need to make this a priority on your to read list and believe me you will be thinking about this book long after you have finished it. This book builds and builds up in suspense, so be prepared!
I gave this book 5 brilliant stars!
Absolutely unputdownable. I definitely didn't see the twist coming at the end, but I was so happy with the way the book turned out! From page one, I was enraptured with it!
When we first Emily, she doesn't seem to have a ton of self-confidence. Sure, she has that self-deprecating ironic confidence that comes from being in your twenties, successful, and working your long way up the ladder. But she seems to view herself as average at best. Enter Adam.
He's the perfect guy--or a good one anyways. Successful, confident, funny--a total package. The guy that every girl in her twenties that is actively dating wants to find. The total package. And she seems a little surprised when he is super into her, but she just goes with it. I mean, why not?
And everything is perfect until she meets his mother. Now this is where Jones really shines. She nails the Pammie character. Pammie is sweet and amazing to everyone who knows her--except to Emily. She is an evil genius to Emily. And no one can see it. And she makes me so angry and so frustrated. I mean, I love her as a character, but so glad she's not my mother-in-law. I felt an overwhelming urge to punch Pammie throughout most of the book.
This book definitely didn't feel like a psychological thriller to me at all. Even in the most subtle sense. But I did still really enjoy the book. Sandie Jones writes great characters. They are multi-dimensional and I found the relationships and personalities to be 100% genuine and believable as real human beings.
I can't decide if this book would be a good one to read for someone who has MIL issues. It might feel a bit like therapy or it might send you over the top. But either way, it will be a good read!
Special thanks to Minotaur Books, St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the advanced e-galley in exchange for my honest review.
Okay. I have to say that going into the book I was not quite feeling it. But then the “other woman” struck a chord in me and I kept going. Man am I glad I did! I did not expect that ending! I finished reading this book and all I could think was “ wow “. I loved it. I will recommend this book to all I know. Thank you!
A super well done psychological thriller! I love love loved to hate these characters - they are nutty in the best way possible.
This book was very unsettling for me to read as it reminded me of a past relationship and that exes mother. I can completely understand how a book like this could give someone anxiety, especially if they relate to the over-controlling gas lighting mother in-law. The book outlines the breakdown of Emily and Adam's relationship which is complete with an overbearing mother in-law, Pammie. Pammie plays games, is controlling, and vindictive. Why is Pammie like this and how far will she go? Good read for fans of family centric thrillers.
Emily is a successful career woman with family and friends that she loves. But she’s never truly been in love before—at least, not since her ex-boyfriend, Tom, cheated on her years ago. When she falls deeply in love with Adam, it looks like she’s found everything she’s ever wanted in a man. Until she meets his mother. Pammie isn’t exactly happy to see her son with Emily. Quite the opposite. And it seems like Pammie will do anything to make sure that she is the only woman in Adam’s life.
This book was a pleasant surprise. However, it has a very slow start, and I had a hard time getting through the first 15%. But once it is revealed that Pammie isn’t a doting, lovable potential-mother-in-law, things become interesting. The ways that Pammie undermines Emily are so subtle, yet so conniving and ultimately utterly disturbing. No spoilers here, but the things that she does are a lot subtler that a rabbit in a pot of boiling water, yet nearly as creepy and evil.
The plot picks up its pace as it plunges forward, and I read the entire book in nearly one sitting. Of course, I was reading it during an Instagram reading marathon, but it was still unputdownable.
One thing that I particularly enjoyed was that Emily isn’t the typical saint that you see in these types of books. She’s got a mean streak of her own, which makes me wonder if she has more in common with Pammie than she even realizes. Sadly, the author doesn’t explore this idea as much as I would have liked. If Emily had turned out to be a lot like Pammie, it would have explained why Adam was so attracted to her in the first place. That said, aside from Emily’s hint of darkness, she isn’t quite as relatable a character later in the book as in the beginning. She’s attracted to James, Adam’s brother—which is something I don’t quite understand. She tells herself she’s madly, completely, wholeheartedly in love with Adam, yet she’s considering sleeping with someone else. She’s considering having both a physical and an emotional affair. That’s just not something that a person who is in love does. She also makes some mistakes with her friends – ultimately damaging her friendships – but she doesn’t suffer the consequences or even truly acknowledge that what she did was wrong. (I’m talking about what she does to her very tropey-yet-lovable gay best friend, whom she distances herself from because Adam is jealous. Ugh.)
I don’t understand being in love with a slightly narcissistic, homophobic ass, which also made Emily a less-than-relatable main character to me. However, Adam wasn’t like that in the beginning of the book. He was lovable. The perfect gentleman. I can appreciate how his character evolves as the novel progresses, demonstrating how people often reveal their true selves while trapped—erm--engaging in long-term relationships.
This book has a wonderfully surprising twist at the end, which makes up for any of the confusion and inconsistencies throughout. I recommend this book to fans of domestic suspense and dramas with a thriller-y edge.

A unique story featuring a boy and a girl in love and the mom who doesn't want to let go.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
3.5 stars. If you can put up with Emily, the main character, and her inane, mindless love of Adam, the man of her life, and his pathetic relationship with his mother Pammie, and various other nonsense, then . . .this is a pretty good story. I found myself getting fed up with Emily’s stupidity and weakness, but I had to find out how it all ended. With the interesting twist at the end, it turned out to be worth it and, overall, a decent read.
Emily thinks Adam’s perfect; the man she thought she’d never meet. But lurking in the shadows is a rival; a woman who shares a deep bond with the man she loves.
Emily chose Adam, but she didn’t choose his mother Pammie. There’s nothing a mother wouldn’t do for her son, and now Emily is about to find out just how far Pammie will go to get what she wants: Emily gone forever.
This book was sooo good. I could not put it down. I don't know how Emily put up with Adam's mom. I would have left a long time ago. Then his brother keeps wanting to meet with her. She also finds out about Adam's last girlfriend and does some snooping. What Adam's mother does to destroy Emily and their relationship was so mean. But the ending! I did not see that coming.

Emily has met the love of her life, Adam. Meeting her soon to be MIL, Pammie, did not quite go the way she had planned. Pammie is a nasty, duplicitous woman, undermining Emily at every turn. The more Pammie tries to destroy, the harder Emily fights to hold on, ignoring warning signs and continually looking the other way when Adam exhibits bad behavior. This debut is the perfect, fast paced beach read, that doesn’t let up until the very nice ending twist.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. For those of you who love the shock and awe endings, if you don't figure it all out ahead of time, you will love this book. I found it very hard to get into and almost put it down several times. Although the story is good, it took me some time to like it. Emily has found the perfect guy, Adam. He's everything she ever wanted, except for his unusual relationship with his mother. When she meets Pammie, she realizes mom is not so happy about her sons new love. Then there is Adam's brother James, who Emily has the hots for but is determined to marry Adam. All of this makes for an interesting enough story, and of course you will love to hate Pammie, want to throttle Adam and really want to smack some sense into Emily. Overall it is a well written debut novel, just somewhat slow moving for me.
Read this book in one sitting and not because it was an easy read but because it was deliciously captivating. I needed to keep turning the page to find out what happened and never would have imagined the plot twist at the end!
“The Other Woman” is uber twisty and addictive and keeps you up way, way, way, way too late reading to the “I can’t believe that happened” shocking end. This psychological thriller is a debut by Sandie Jones and after reading it, she’s now on my “I’ve gotta have every one of her books” list!
So here’s the story. Emily meets Adam, who is definitely The One. But with the perfect guy comes the mother-in-law from hell, Pammie, a woman you’ll love to hate. What do they say about mothers and the lengths they’ll go for their sons? Well, you won’t believe the lengths Pammie goes to ... and I’m not gonna tell you either. You MUST read “The Other Woman” to find out! 5/5

No matter what you might think about your own mother in law, she has nothing on Pammie. Emily thinks she's found a gem in Adam (I'm. not so sure) but she's got a battle ahead of her if they are to get and stay married. This has some twists that make it hard to review because of spoilers and a surprise ending. Emily is a little dopey to me but she makes a good heroine in distress even as Pammie makes a very good villain. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a fast, entertaining read.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good, quick read. It has plenty of twists and turns and is an interesting story. Emily meets Adam and thinks he's the perfect man. Soon after they meet they plunge head-long into a serious relationship. After only a few months they've moved in together. Everything is perfect - except Adam's mother Pammie.
Pammie will stop at nothing to break Emily and Adam up. To Adam, Pammie is the perfect doting mother, but Emily sees her dark, manipulative side. How far will Pammie go to be rid of Emily?
The story was fast paced and I read it quickly. I liked the characters, although Emily grated on me a bit at times. She is smart and accomplished, and yet frets and doubts herself often. She is much too insecure and forgiving at times to be true to the character. Other than that, I liked this book and recommend you read it.
For a debut novel THE OTHER WOMAN had a twist to it I never saw coming! Thinking about it did I have my own idea on how it could have played out, well yes – but I was not the author and because of that I still think it was extremely good.
Emily thinks Adam is perfect; so perfect that she couldn’t imagine why he took notice of her. Basically she just kept waiting for the other shoe to drop because her self esteem couldn’t comprehend that this ever so handsome dude was paying so much attention to her. What Emily never suspected was that in the back ground there was a sinister ‘ other woman’ who was not about to let Emily come between her and her son!
From the moment Emily met “Pammie” the mother, she sensed that this woman had a very deep bond with her son and knew that in spite of Pammie’s kind words, there was a sense of knowing that they were only spoken, but not felt. Unfortunately, Adam wouldn’t believe that his mother had any ulterior motives towards Emily after he had asked her to marry him. Emily knew better but couldn’t speak a bad word against Pammie and had to walk on eggshells to see Adam happy.
You’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat thru this one from beginning until the end. Great psychological thriller casting a tense dysfunctional relationship between Emily, her fiancé Adam and his twisted mother Pammie. Hold onto your seat - you won’t see the twist when it hits you like a bolt of lightening!
