This book frustrated me because Emily is in a horrible, toxic relationship with Adam, but finds a way to blame everyone but him. I simply didn't understand why she "loved" him so much. The big twist is okay but not too shocking (I've seen it before). Lots of pop culture references, obligatory gay friend as well as an outspoken best friend, a job that pops up when necessary, lots of people saying "Erm..." or having smiles that "don't quite reach" their eyes. The best parts were the prologue and the epilogue.

What. Did. I. Just. Read?? 😳😳😳 Oh wow. I didn’t expect any of what just went down! Duped all the way through! This one definitely messed with my head... in the best way! Amazing story, Sandie Jones!

Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. It was one hell of a ride that made me feel every emotion known to man. Love, lust, anger and disgust. Then I get to the last few pages and my jaw hits the floor. An absolute thrilling read!

Emily meets Adam. Then she meets Pammie. This family is a twisted circus. You can’t tell who’s coming or going. Emily does her best to deal with Pammie but is left fighting for air with each turn, once you finish this book you’ll need a breather of your own.

A twist only a true sleuth could predict.

PROS:
- I hated Pammie... and I loved that I hated her. My physical reactions to Pammie's manipulative words and actions just shows how well the author wrote this character. It's been a while since I have been so irritated and angered by a character.
- I enjoyed the suspense of trying to determine Pammie's true motives and how it would all be resolved in the end.


CONS:
- There were many situations in which Emily could have confided in Adam, her mother, or her friends about Pammie's manipulation. I got a little frustrated when things could have been brought to light had Emily only told someone.
- While I enjoyed the suspense throughout most of this book, I feel like the ending and resolution came about a bit abruptly. The "twist" seemed to come out of nowhere.

Overall, this was a fun reading experience and a great debut novel for Jones. Looking forward to reading more of her novels!

Full of suspense that kept me on my toes. Almost reminded me of my own mother in law. Perfect storyline to keep the readers attention.

WOW, WOW!!! What did I just read.? This novel is twisty in all the right ways! The author does a great job on the creation of these characters. It's a great read.

Excellent book! Definitely a nail-biter, my favorite kind of thriller. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I really enjoyed this book. I got so caught up in this story I just had to keep reading. This was a fast-paced thriller that held my attention from the beginning to the unexpected ending. My only complaint is that I really did not like the protagonist, Emily. She was weak, insecure, jealous and gullible. Who asks a boyfriend if he would still be with his girlfriend from 10 years ago if she didn't die? The story could be predictable at times but it sure was entertaining.

I love this book. I have not read anything by this author before but the description pulled me in. The character of Pammie was excellently written. I pray to never have a mother-in-law like that!

I found this book to be a page turner. A great psychological suspense novel.

This book was a trip! If you think you have the mother-in-law from hell then you haven't met who Emily is dealing with. Watching her relationship with her partner and his mother was stressful to say the least. I never quite knew what to expect next. This is one of those books where you really just wish you could reach inside and shake some sense into the character. There are SO many red flags and the relationship is SO much work. Emily is either crazy or a much stronger woman than I am. I would have run for the hills to never look back. If you want a book that will continue to shock you throughout your read, then this is a great one to pick up!

I went into this book with such high hopes, that I can't help but feel a little let down. I'm not quite sure what it is that didn't work for me with this one, but I wasn't gripped by the suspense. All in all, I did still enjoy the writing style and the plotline, so I've given it a 3/5 star rating.

I have heard so many great things about this book but i could not finish. I want to give Sandie another try as there is such a large following to her books but I have such difficulty getting into it.

A young woman (Emily) meets a good looking guy (Adam) in a bar, and they immediately connect. They date, they become intimate, they seem happily failing in love UNTIL Adam takes Emily home to meet his mother. From the first meeting, his mother Pammie seems lovely when in front of her son, and evil when she is alone with her prospective daughter-in-law. Adam is protective of his mother, who is a widow, to the point that he might as well move home - such a manipulative mother, and sappy son. Throughout the book there are numerous instances of Pammie sabotaging Adam and Emily’s relationship from simple rudeness and put-downs, to actually inviting people to the bachelorette weekend who have hurt Emily in the past. There are so many instances of sabotage that it’s a wonder Emily didn’t tell Pammie off, or move on. And Adam seems oblivious, even when Emily tells him her concerns. He protects and favors his mother all along. Pammie spoils the wedding, Emily unintentionally becomes pregnant, and Pammie steps up her pushing the couple apart to almost unbelievable lengths.
The ending events are not at all what I expected, and seems to be quite a stretch that Adam and Emily’s relationship lasted beyond the first meeting. Pammie’s true reasoning for pushing the couple apart seems far-fetched, although it can be explained as her trying to protect her son, and also protect Emily from her son. Despite the ending, I have to say I enjoyed reading the book. The character development of the three main characters, as well as supporting characters was excellent - I could picture them all - Emily’s best friends, a colorful, outspoken woman named Pippa, and a supportive gay man Seb. Also well detailed were Adam’s handsome younger brother, and Emily’s mum. The episodes of Adam’s temper tantrums, his drunkenness, the sly evil of Pammie’s devious doings, all were well described. Because the writing flowed well, I gave the book 4 stars, where for believability I would only give it 2-3 stars. But I found it a good beach read, and I’d definitely read this author again.

Wow, was my first thought after reading this book! This book is all about every persons nightmare, the mother in law from hell...or was she? This book has twists and some what the heck moments. A mothers love seems to drive this mother to almost insanity and I was never sure until the end who she was protecting or if she was even insane. The author did a great job in making her characters completely believable, Pammie was quite the villain it seemed and the author did a great job in making her that way. A good read.

Unfortunately, I had to force myself to get through this novel. While the storyline sounded intriguing, the actual novel did not deliver. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never did.

CREEPY - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Adam is a great catch--Emily is thrilled to meet him and build their relationship. The only problem is that his mother keeps causing problems between them...or is she? Emily is never quite sure what Pammie's motives are, but she certainly doesn't trust her and their relationship goes from bad to worse.

Writing - 4 stars - This is a new-to-me author, and I'll admit that she drew me in to the story right from the first page. Yes, I had read the preview so knew what type of story to expect, but the characters grabbed me, and Jones was able to create the emotional setting perfectly.

Characters - 4 stars - All of the characters fit their roles very well. Emily is the confident young woman who is ready to start a new life, having met the man of her dreams. Adam is eager and loving and ready to begin his life with Emily. Pammie is the mother-in-law from hell, insinuating all sorts of little doubts and problems in Emily's path while acting the lovely woman to everyone else. The triangle is fascinating, with drama and suspicion galore.

Title - 4 stars - A great title, leading you to believe that there's an adulterous situation going on when really it's Adam's mom who is the other woman. Or, I suppose from Mom's point of view, it's Emily who is the other woman in his life.

Cover - 4 stars - A pretty cover, with delicate colors and a sense of peacefulness.

Overall - 4 stars - A fascinating psychological thriller that compelled me to keep turning the pages. Jones created the original suspicious scenario, then she was able to build the tension, keeping me on my toes throughout. I'll admit that the ending was just a bit of a let-down, but only because it seemed a bit sudden and almost anti-climactic. I loved the development of the characters, watching them change as more pieces of the puzzle were revealed. All in all, a very good debut novel, and I will definitely look for more from this author.

I unfortunately did not get to read this book before it archived. I am hoping to get it from the library.

Well that was a surprise ending. Jones does a fabulous job of trickling breadcrumbs that make the reader question what is actually going on here. In what could have been an overdone premise, this one feels fresh and interesting. I knew there was more to the story than Emily, the protagonist, could see, but I didn’t catch on to it at all. And that’s saying something. But I’m just not sure than I’ll remember this one in the months and years to come.

Wow really makes you rethink getting married and having a mother in law! If you like suspense and want a read that keeps you on your toes this is perfect for you! Happy reading!
