The Other Woman by debut novelist Sandie Jones is an AMAZING. Twisted. Can't put it down, don't want it to ever end book. Run to your local bookstore or preorder this psychological thriller which will have you thinking about it days after you have finished reading.
The book begins with your typical girl meeting boy (Emily and Adam), falling in love and meeting boys mother, (Pammie) who it seems is Satan in a dress. Adam appears to be Pammie's favorite child and will do anything and everything in her power to stop their relationship. Emily does not understand Pammie's hate for her which she begins to realize during her first meeting with Pammie. Adam, and her other son James on Christmas day. Tension builds as Adam does not appreciate Emily's unkindness towards his mother while Pammie increases her torture of Emily.
This is a true page turner with an I did not see that coming ending.
This book should be made into a movie!
The Other Woman comes out August 21.
When Emily meets Adam its instant chemistry and she is sure he is the one. Soon they are living together and then become engaged. All before she meets his mother. Pammie.
There are so many things I could say about all of them but honestly I think you should just read it and come to your own conclusions. Don't assume you know anything! Because I'm quite sure you don't. Every one in this book is shady. No one is what or who they seem to be and that ending. What the heck??
I absolutely loved this twist. A most unusual one as I was ready to draw and quarter the person I thought was the evil one! Then, Boom. Nope.
Great job and I highly recommend this one!

Recieved this book early for my honest review.
Such an intriguing story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I felt connected to Emily throughout the story and although the ending wasn't what I imagined it was perfect in every way. Pick up this book when you have the chance!
Very entertaining story of a possessive mother in law. A mama's boy can do no wrong in her eyes but how far will she go to keep another female from getting in the way? It was a quick read, a fun ride and a couple of twists here and there to keep you wondering.
An engaging thriller and perfect poolside read, The Other Woman by Sandie Jones capitalises on the rivalry between women and their mothers-in-law, or perhaps I should say between Mothers and their daughters- in -law. Jones cleverly and capably rides that very fine line, creating a book which will happily pull the rug out from under your feet if you let it. While most of the book would have you firmly in the corner of Emily, who believes her mother in law to be is determined to split up her relationship, every so often Jones twists events so that it seems that Emily may be reading into things a little too much. Lots of drama keeps the book moving at a brisk pace, but unfortunately I do have to confess that the ending did not surprise me as much as I think the author intended it to.
A fun piece of summer escapism.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher , all opinions are entirely my own
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Other Woman.
This book had a very slow start for me, at times it took all I could do to pick it up to read it. There were moments where I wanted to just give up and quit...Emily started off as a strong independent woman but once Adam came into the picture she was almost pathetic! I wanted to smack her for not telling Adam what Pammie, his mother, was doing from the beginning and also for even dealing with with Adams bullshit. You could see the beginnings of abuse. with him. I was completely shocked and surprised with the ending! And in fact am glad that she didn't fill Adam in on his mother's behavior! I have to say that even though this was a slow start, I am happy that I gathered the courage to finish The Other Woman. The ending made it worth it.
For most of this novel, I thought of it as being a solid, stress-inducing book—in a good way. I like books that have a twist, unfortunately, the twist at the end of this one didn’t ring true to me.
I liked Emily, and disliked Pammie so much, that I found this to be an absolute page turner, hoping that somehow things would work out for Emily.
Emily meets handsome Adam at a bar during a conference. Sparks fly, and though they’ve only been dating a short time, when you know, you know. Right? Until he introduces her to his mother Pammie, who, very subtly, tries to destroy Emily’s relationship with her son. Adam thinks that Emily is being petty. He doesn’t see the secret machinations of his mother.
I was instantly hooked on this book as soon as I read it and I couldn't read the pages fast enough!
Emily meets a handsome man named Adam unexpectedly in a bar and sparks fly. Before she knows it, they are moving in together and she has fallen madly in love - what could possibly go wrong? His mother Pammie.
Pammie's life revolves around her sons, and on the outside, she is a generous, kindhearted woman who couldn't possibly hurt a fly. When a new woman enters the picture and becomes engaged to her son, and in the process threatens her bond with Adam, she couldn't wait to take matters into her own hands.
When Emily meets her mother in law for the first time, she could see just how much Pammie loved and doted on her son, and how Adam would bend over backwards for her. When things start to get a little weird, Emily spirals into paranoia, anger, and resentment. How far is Emily willing to go to take charge of her relationship and show Pammie's true colours?
The power struggle was so intense throughout this book and I couldn't believe the horrible things Pammie was prepared to do to get Emily out of her and her son's life. Talk about suspense!
The ending was absolutely fantastic and I couldn't wait to read the next page to see what happened next. I haven't been this pulled into a book in a really long time and I am so happy that I was given the opportunity to read it! Fantastic!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
We have all read a book like this, watched a movie like this or lived it. I thought The Other Woman had a nice unique spin to it! Great book that'll keep you on your toes!
I received a free copy of The Other Woman from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book! It was so twisted and I just couldn't stop reading! Emily thinks she has the perfect marriage until she starts to tangle with her mother in law. The ending of the story is so unexpected! This was a great book and I look forward to reading more by Sandie Jones. Very worth your time!
Emily believes that she had found the man she’s been waiting for. Her forever, till death do us part man. But what do you do when the that man has one overbearing, nosy, interfering mother. That is exactly the situation that our main character find herself in and will have to figure it all out.
Let’s talk about the three main characters before I tell you anymore. Pammie is Adam, (the boyfriend’s) mother. She is the character you want to hate so much, but really can’t. She is nosy, bossy and has this weird relationship with her son, Adam. Now, he has is fair share of weirdness too when it comes to.his mother from what I could tell, he was a little off too. Emily was stuck in the middle.
We are given a front row seat for this roller coaster ride of these three characters, narrated by Emily. Emily was smitten with Adam from the moment she met Adam. Then she meets his mother Pammie and the snide comments and constant meddling begins, driving a wedge between them all. But questions start to rise of the relationship between Adam and his mother as well Emily’s role in it all, she turns a blind eye to it all. I found myself wanting to smack some sense into Emily for the things she did too. Wake up honey, this is one dysfunctional family…
The pace is a medium pace and it certainly picks up toward the end. With everything going on, I began to question all three Emily, Adam and Pammie. The events leading up to the ending were suspenseful, but the big twist at the end wasn’t all that twisty, at least to me. But even so, it all was so really good and did take us readers on one wild ride. I warn you, there is some domestic violence that will not set right set well with some readers.
The Other Woman was one of my most anticipated reads for the year, and I have to say, it was worth the wait. But don’t forget to beware of Pammie…
I was disappointed with the story. It took too long to develop these characters. It took to chapter 34 before the book became interesting. It did end on a high note, though.
This book was gifted to me by the author in return for an honest review.
Have you recently fallen madly in love? Gotten engaged anytime soon? If so, beware. There will always be the other woman. And she is out to make your life hell.
The Other Woman is a taut psychological thriller about the obsessive love of a future mother-in-law. Emily and Adam seem to be a match made in heaven. After meeting, they shortly begin a steady relationship. Emily is smitten, and at first, all appears to be going well. That is, until Emily is introduced to Adam's mother, Pammie.
At first, Emily mistakes Pammie's digs and slights as innocent mistakes. However, as Emily and Adam begin to take their relationship to the next level, Pammie's interest in the pair begins to become borderline obsessive. It is not long before Emily begins to fear not only for her relationship, but for her psychological and physical well-being.
Great book! I was completely enthralled, and could not stop turning pages. Pammie's character is so well-developed that you will love to hate her. Also, the storyline completely shifted gears in the last 20% of the novel, and I was completely captivated by the twist. I definitely did not see it coming. If you enjoy a quick paced thriller, The Other Woman will not disappoint.
This book is great. I had a lot of "mother-in-law" issues early in my marriage and I thought I knew exactly what Emily was going through. But, I was wrong. Emily's situation is much different and much scarier than the regular in-law issues. This book is hard to put down. I just had to pick it up to find out more about what Pammie was doing to Emily. Definitely recommend reading!
Wow. This book!! 5 huge stars all the way.
I devoured this thrilling book in two days. One of the best I've read all year.
Highly recommend.
This book was sooo slow to get into and Adam was so unlikable. This book just didn't do it for me. I felt like this plot had been done before.
Many thanks to Minotaur Books, Sandi Jones and NetGalley for the free arc of “The Other Woman” in exchange for my honest review.
The first several chapters of this book were almost too easy a read for me. I kept thinking, this book would be perfect for a quick read on vacation. The characters were fairly stereotypical, the story line was plausible, if not predictable... until the twists that had me saying to myself, wtactualf?!
Emily has met Adam; the man of her dreams. The problem is, Adam is a mama’s boy. Boy or boy, what a mama he has. Pammie, this story’s “Monster-in-Law” is everything and more than Jane Fonda in the same named movie. Therein lies the basic plot of this book, however, don’t let the similarities fool you into thinking you’re reading the same story.
Sandi Jones does it so much better, so much more twisted, with a gut wrenching, mind bending shocker at the end that will leave the reader speechless. Great job, Mrs. Jones! I thoroughly enjoyed “The Other Woman”. Looking forward to your next novel.
The Other Woman is a thrilling ride to the say the least that Sandie Jones takes us on!
So.. have to be honest I really struggled with rating this one. Did this novel keep me on the edge of my toes and give me one hell of a ride?! Heck yes.. but on the other hand this is a plot that we have seen before.
My mind kept going back and forth to The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances. This is a very similar plot line as this story but Sandie takes a slightly different right turn on this drive....
I was fully engaged in this story but there was so many unanswered questions that I had in my mind upon finishing this. Some of it just didn't make sense to me? I sat on this over night and I just was slightly annoyed with my perturbing questions lol... which caused me to rate this one a tad lower.
Let's meet Emily. She's a successful business woman who meets Adam at a bar one night. Adam and Emily's relationship takes off like a rocket. Emily soon is introduced to Adam's mother Pammie. Pammie is like nails on a chalkboard... until the death of you.. literally.
Pammie to say the least has zero LOVE for Emily... setting traps at every moment she can in order for Emily to struggle with her relationship with Adam. But, what is truly going on behind doors between Adam and Emily? Is their relationship is as it seems? Why, does Pammie hate Emily so much?
The Other Woman is a novel that will keep you turning those pages until the very end. Questions will keep haunting you until you can get your fingers on those answers my friends!
I do have to say Sandie takes one hell of a unexpected turn with this ending that some of you will have your jaw fully glued to the floor.
Overall, 3.5 stars on this one for me.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and St. Martins/Minotaur books for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.

You have GOT to be kidding!!! So, the entire book, basically, was just a misunderstanding? HUH? Admittedly, Emily is one of the neediest heroines I have met recently, but STILL!! There were several danger signs, but she "LOVES" the guy, so she ignores them. He is a COMPLETE A-hole, but she "loves" him, so it's OK. His mother is a wicked shrew, but she has her problems. His brother is too good to be true, and he is.
I was really getting into this book, wondering how in the world it was going to end, and then it DID. And I, for one, HATED the ending.
I gave it 3 stars because most of the book was a solid 4, but the ending was a 2 at best.
This book was so good!!! At first I was appalled at the way Pammie treated Emily, then equally upset at how Adam treated her. But the twists!! Holy cow!!! I didn’t see that coming at all!!
