This book was definitely a mind game. The ending was not at all what I thought it would be. The book was slow paced for me. I couldn’t make a connection with the characters. The premise was good but I didn’t personally connect with the book. I received an advance review copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Ok, ladies and gents buckle your seat belts and brace for a wild ride as there are layers to explore in The Other Woman by Sandie Jones. This book grabs you and hooks you from the beginning and will not let go!!!! I stayed up way too late last night and finished it on my lunch break. I wanted to know what happened to Emily! Emily meets Adam and its an instant connection and she falls head over heels for him. As they plot their way to bliss, the thorn in Emily's side is her evil mother in law to be, Pammie. I hate to admit this but I have known women like this and am fortunate that I have never had a mother in law like Pammie.
What I loved: The characters: Emily is lovable and yet there are times when she;s not so lovable with her insecurities and her over analytical behavior. I recognize those characteristics in my younger self. The fact that she sees red flags and ignores the warning signs because she is so blissfully in love, yeah that part I also recognize in myself and many of my own friends. Seb, Pippa are friends we all want to have... and make a great contrast with Emily. Their attitude and unconditional love is touching, and they came across as every bit as real as Emily. James sounds like a dream come true and there's more there.. he's the character I would love to see a novel about... There are other characters I would like to more read about (by read about, what I really mean is take a long deep dive into their lives and know all their stories....) but I really am being careful not to include any spoilers.
The writing: Author, Sandie Jones constructs the tension carefully, introducing characters seamlessly and weaving them into the story. The plot is building and twisting before you have had a chance to really absorb it (See why I staying up all night reading...). The psychological suspense is carefully woven throughout the story building to an intense climax that I did not see coming!! Thank you Sandie Jones, I love it when I don't figure out the ending!!!
Oh and Pammie- Devil reincarnated, and I admire the skill it took to show the reader her manipulation. Will Emily finally win or will the Momster from Hell reign and keep her precious little boy?
The shell shocked ending! Whew, I really do not know what to say. I could say it all but then you would hunt me down and slice my throat or something really sinister.... so I am keeping my spoilers to myself! This is the sort of book that I would love to get on the phone with a friend about and exclaim over the surprises and point out different sections of the book that we can now view from a totally different perspective. Let's chat about layers and irony friends!
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Menotaur Books for an advanced reader's copy. I appreciate the chance to review this book, and as always- all opinions are my own.
Ummmm what?!?!?!? Ok this book was so good!
You may think you know but you probably don't ;-)
Go grab this book! What a ride.
Wow, just wow. What a book ! One of those books where you think you know what's going on the whole time, and then BAM you were so wrong ! Nothing is as it seems. You know an author is good when she makes you hate someone that is a character in the book. From start to finish, excellent ! So glad I got to read an ARC of this book. It was excellent in every way ! Jaw dropping good ! Enjoy !
What a great book! It's a real page turner! I look forward to reading more from this author. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

The Other Woman was an excellent debut novel by Sandie Jones. It tells the story of a woman who finds "the perfect' guy'"- but fails to see the red flags everywhere! The "perfect guy" also has Pammie his mother who will stop at nothing to get Emilly away from her son Adam. . I thoroughly enjoyed this book - I found it to be quite an enjoyable read. and I never saw that ending coming! #TheOtherWoman #BewareofPammie
Wow! Was definitely hooked very early on.. Emily loves Adam and is hopeful of a happy marriage with him, but she didn't anticipate the problems his mother would cause in their relationship. Seemingly the normal monster in law, Emily fights tooth and nail for her relationship. I knew, as I was reading, there would come a twist or huge realization, but I couldn't quite figure it out! I loved the ending , and I loved how I kept going back and forth on what was going on behind the scenes!
How do you handle The Other Woman in your mans life? Especially when it's his mother and you just know she hates you!
Sandie Jones has written a twisty thriller of love, family and murder in The Other Woman.
Thank you #NetGalley for an advanced copy of #TheOtherWoman!
I absolutely loved this book! I was hooked right from the beginning, dying to know Pammie’s motives. The things she does to Emily makes you question what kind of person could actually treat someone this way! I try and analyze as I'm reading to figure out what the plot twist was going to be but this twist at the end was totally unexpected!
Oh, Pammie - what a wonderfully written character! Duplicitous and conniving, willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants, you’ll love to hate her. Fast-paced and very entertaining, you will not be able to put it down until you know the whole story. Even though I had figured it out by the end, it was still a suspenseful read and one I would highly recommend. Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced reader copy. This is my honest opinion.
Emily has found what she believes to be the perfect guy. Only problem...his mother, Pammie. After numerous struggles with Pammie, Emily tries to tell Adam what she has been experiencing but he always defends his mother. Reading this I felt lucky to have an amazing MIL that I am actually very close with. - PHEW! Dodged that bullet. I may have been lucky but not everyone is so fortunate and the strain of a bad relationship with your MIL can be difficult in many different aspects, including the relationship between you and your SO.
Emily's character was relatable which allows the reader to feel each emotion she is experiencing alongside her. I found myself picturing what I would do it her shoes. Would I tell Adam? Would I retaliate? Would I run for the hills and say, "No guy is worth this"? While I may have chosen a different path than Emily because there were definitely times when I wanted to slap her upside the head and tell her she deserved better. I still felt for her and hoped for the best.
Sandie Jones had me flyingggg through this book. I couldn't seem to put it down. Every time I did I found myself wondering what would happen next between Emily and Pammie. And to think, this is her debut!
Just when I thought I had it all figured out everything would flip and go a complete different direction. If this is any inclination of what is to come from Sandie Jones then the world better watch out!
Wow is one of the first thoughts that comes to mind when reading this book! Emily has finally found the perfect man. He Is caring, sweet, completely head over heels in love with her. The only negative...... His mother Pammie. At every step of their budding relationship up until the failed attempt at a wedding, postponing the wedding while Pammie battles cancer and Emily gives birth to her and Adam's child. Yet all of these attempts by Pammie to drive Emily away are surprisingly with the best of intentions. The other women will keep you on the edge of the seat until the end.
This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2018. Unfortunately, it ended up being a tad disappointing. I didn't feel any kind of connection with the main character and I also did not find this story suspenseful or thrilling. It was just your run of the mill typical suspense books. I've got to admit that I didn't see the ending coming, but I also didn't find it to be much of a plot twist. 3 stars due to the story keeping my attention, just not the best I have ever read and not particularly memorable.
I was really excited to read this book but had a really hard timing getting into it. But I hung in there after reading several great reviews and I am glad I did. The plot picked up - especially the latter half of the book and I could see why people got hooked on it. I was not crazy about the character of Emily- she never really grabbed me. I did think the ending was great- but again, it was so hard to get into, so it was not one of my favorite of reads.
It’s so difficult to review a psychological thriller without giving away important plot points. I’m going to give it a try without giving too much away. This was one of the better books that I have read lately, but it had a few flaws. The author does a good job of making the primary villain extremely unlikeable, almost too much so. At some points, I wondered why anyone would put up with someone so horrible, and not just walk away. However, I will say that that question does eventually get answered. Emily, the main character, goes through an awful lot, which is par for the course in a psychological thriller. I found her to be a little weak, but there was no particular reason given for her to be that way. In addition, the other antagonist (no name, don’t want to give it away) wasn’t fleshed out enough. I wanted more reasons for and/or examples of why and how that person was the way they were. The end reveal didn’t answer enough of those questions for me. All of that being said, it was still an enjoyable read, with a fairly tight plot. I would definitely recommend it to someone who likes the genre. I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, The Other Woman by Sandie Jones is an intense read from the prologue to the epilogue. Nothing is at it seems in this crazy love triangle between Emily, her boyfriend Adam and his mother Pammie. An absolute 5 star read from start to finish - book some time for this one, you won't want to put it down.
Emily and Adam are a cute London couple who are falling in love. Sounds great - except for his mother. Pammie could put Mommie Dearest to shame. She has a lovely public persona, kind and sweet, generous to a fault - but when Emily is around it's a different story altogether.
Emily believes Pammie is deliberately trying to run her out of Adam's life forever. Emily is perplexed, what has she done to make Pammie despise her? Emily has constant mixed emotions about Pammie, almost everyone around her doesn't see the manipulative cold bitch that Emily sees. Is it really Emily? Is she just predisposed to despise Pammie?
If Emily's fiance doesn't see his mother's true colors, will anyone else? Will Adam's mother succeed in just breaking them up or will the scheme turn deadly?
The Other Woman may be the best book of 2018. Hands down, five star read that I would highly recommend to readers who enjoy suspense. You won't see the twist until it's right there. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Ms. Jones has a new fan, I absolutely hope she has more stories to tell!
Wow! This was a page turner! Full of surprises and twists til the very end! I would definitely recommend this book! I couldn’t put it down!
Oh my goodness!! This was an excellent book. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. I never knew what was coming
Emily fell in love with Adam from the start! He was the "one" until....she met his mother. She tried to do everything to break up the relationship and everyone else thought it was all in her head. OR was it?
Twisty and suspense--a good candidate in the domestic suspense genre--wonderful characterizations and premise.
