I got the ARC of this boom from netgalley . I loved it. The story was fast paced but the character development was amazing and the relationship didn’t feel like it developed too quickly . At first I thought this story is not as suspenseful as the books in the tracer series but the twist in the end was AMAZING.
I liked that Brynn was so kick ass while being all feminine.
I am hoping this will be a series but the authors website lists it as a stand-alone.
I'm a huge Laura Griffin fan so was thrilled to have received a free ARC of Desperate Girls from her, Simon & Schuster and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Ms. Griffin did not hold back on this one. With a strong, confident woman, a rock of a bodyguard and an escaped convict, this story flows from beginning to end, with just enough drama, intrigue and passion to keep you turning the pages and losing sleep. The surprise twist at the end of the book had me gasping and saying to myself, "nice one, Ms. Griffin!"
If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is a must read! I highly recommend!
I loved this book. I was in complete suspense until the bitter end. The characters were interesting, the plot intriguing. I'm anxious to read more by this author.
I liked this book, but I found it a little predictable. I think the author did a great job with the imagery, I could really see the scenes in my mind. I just wished that I was a little more surprised with what happened throughout the book. I also thought there were a lot of different names to keep straight, and a few times I had to go backwards to remind myself of who someone was.
This is a very well written book. Lots of mystery and who did it mixed in with a very subtle love story. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Enjoyable read. The story has a few bland spots but picks up and recovers. There are some plot twists, intrigue, a little mystery, the saving grace of this story. The romance is kind of redundant, has been done many times before, not a bad thing, just same ol’, same ol’. One of my questions is where did the title come from? Sure murder of girls/women, however this is a book about one woman. All in all a decent read.
I have been a fan of Laura Griffin for a while now and have always enjoyed her books. This latest is no exception with the ability to keep and hold my interest from page one. By the second chapter I was hooked, finishing the book in three days. Characters and plot line believable with all the suspense and a good bit of romance mixed together. Can't wait for her next one. I received a digital copy of this book but my review is unbiased and I heartily recommend it.
First of all, I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning in order to finish this book!!!! Secondly, I want this woman to defend me and this guy to protect me!!!!!!!
This is a story of a lawyer who is stalked by a previously put away sadistic serial killer. He escapes and the "fun" begins. She is given unwanted bodyguards. From that point it's just craziness excitement.
I think I almost needed to splash my voice from the sexual tension. Wowza!!!!!
First read by this author. I've already been purchasing more. I hope to see more from exciting Wolfe Security.
As a huge fan of Laura Griffin I was so excited to get approved to read this book ! This is her best book yet ! Once you pick it up you do not want to put it down. Every chapter is thrilling and the book is just amazing ! The story line, the characters, the twists. I love the way her mind works ! I read this in a day and if I did not have to work I probably would have finished it in 2 hours because it is just that good. And ladies, if you don't fall a little bit in love with Erik Morgan, I think there might be something wrong with you !! Fabulous from start to finish !!!
A former prosecutor Brynn Holloran was part of a team that convicted a serial murderer. When the killer breaks out of jail and kills another member of the that team, Wolfe Securities is called. Erik Morgan a former Secret Service agent is assigned as Brynn's bodyguard. Involved in another high profile case Brynn is reluctant to have a bodyguard. (I hate it when smart, tough heroines make stupid decisions or when I think they might.) But, she quickly comes to realize the importance of having someone watch her back..
Both main characters are portrayed as loners who are very committed to their respective careers. Maybe a bit too much which makes the epilogue very credible. There is more of a slow burn between Erik and Brynn. I have read other books by this author but this story really pulled me in. Interesting characters with a quick pace.
I received an ARC from Net Galley. The views and opinions are my own.
Laura Griffen has written a captivating romantic suspense that grabbed me on page one and never let go. Brynn Halloran is a strong heroine who takes her work seriously and has moved from being a successful prosecuting attorney to the lead chair on high profile defense cases. She’s a workaholic who has never been successful balancing her personal relationships with her intense work drive. When a man she helped send to prison escapes from prison and appears to be on a revenge killing spree, her boss hires a bodyguard firm to protect her. Enter Erik Morgan, the sexy former military, former secret service bodyguard. He’s also a workaholic and is one of the first men ever to be able to hold his own against Brynn, who can be quite intimidating. There is obviously a strong attraction between Brynn and Erik upon their first meeting, but Griffen does an excellent job at keeping the relationship smoldering as the suspense elements of the story unfold.
In addition to the main plotline, there are several twists that keep the story fast paced and makes it hard to put down. The story is well written, the characters are well developed and the book definitely keeps the reader interested. The only thing I found confusing was the title. It doesn’t obviously tie in with the story line.
Okay, I have to say, I loved this book. Very well written and executed. The author did an excellent job with character development and interactions between the various characters. I love the main character, Brynn, who is a strong, intelligent female in a high powered stressful job. This book would make a great movie (hint, hint)! I'm hoping that it will become a series. It was that good.
*I would like to thank the author/publisher/NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.*
Thought this was an amazing book. . So good. Enjoyed writing and characters and development so very much
I recently discovered Laura Griffin and am steadily working my way though all of her books. I was absolutely thrilled to get this advance copy and devoured it in 3 hours. The characters are so vivid that I feel I know them and the plot just kept twisting and kept me on the edge of my seat. I heartily recommend this book!
This story gets told from multiple points of view: An attorney, a bodyguard, and the detectives handling the case. Each person brings something to the story. It wasn't too head hoppy. It flowed well with each character transition and was easy to follow who's chapter you were reading.
This book was a one click read for me! I was so invested into what was going on that I could not put it down! While this is my first book by Laura Griffin it won't be my last!! I would have liked to see more emotion in this book between the characters but this did not take away from the heart pounding tension that kept building!
The plot was amazing and the world building aspect was beautifully executed. The writing captivated me. No known errors or dullness in it either. I've read tons of book where I question why it made it past an editor but this book was easily one of my favorites for suspense, so far this year.
4/5 Stars
***I received a copy of this from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***
Another Winner. I have read her previous books which have been awesome. I hope she writes a sequel to include some of the other characters. You can’t miss with this one. The ending will surprise you.
Defense attorney Brynn Holloran loves her life as a courtroom lawyer, and she can mix it up with the beat of them. Cops, thugs, judges – none of them intimidate her. Her personal life is another matter, and when a killer she helped prosecutes starts taking out those responsible for putting him behind bars, Brynn knows she’s in big trouble. With no help coming from the police, she turns to a private security firm, but refuses to take their advice, getting involved in the investigation so often herself, she jeopardizes not only her safety, but the agent assigned to protect her. Readers may get a little annoyed with Brynn because of her attitude, but the storyline is strong and the other characters are solid
This is my first book by Laura Griffin. It grabbed me from the first page and I read it pretty quick. I didn’t love the book but I liked it ok. Would I recommend it? Yes, I would. There was a twist at the very end that I didn’t see coming but then the book ended and that was that. I was given this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review.
This was just what I expected from Laura Griffin. It's fast paced, but full of emotion and heat. I fell in love immediately with Erik. Strong, loyal, smart, and so very sweet. The story focuses on the trial and the dangerous escaped criminal looking for revenge (two independent story lines, btw) and through it all is the growing connection between Erik and Brynn. I loved the addition of a few familiar faces from the Tracers series, but this is truly a standalone novel. The only part I struggled with is the title. I never quite got the connection between the title and the story, but that is no way took away from anything. Another 5 star read!
Desperate Girls – Laura Griffin
I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
Brynn Holloran is a top-notch attorney, who, once a prosecutor, now makes her living as a defense attorney. She is busy preparing the defense of a young man who is accused of murder, when she learns of the death of a judge and former colleague of hers, Jen Ballard. Coincidentally, she learns of the escape of a serial rapist and killer that she and Jen had once worked hard to convict. And another police officer who worked the case is found dead.
Alarmed by the escape of James Corby, Brynn’s boss hires the security services of the elite Wolfe Security Services to keep his team safe. Brynn feels the around-the-clock protection is intrusive and unnecessary; yet finds herself unwillingly attracted to one of her body guards, Eric Morgan.
Then another team member is ambushed and severely injured and the security team goes on high alert. Tensions and passions run high as Brynn and Eric are forced to spend even more time together. As they review the case against James Colby, the question arises of planted evidence… Is Colby avenging a set up? And can Wolfe Security keep Brynn safe?
I first discovered Laura Griffin a few years ago, when I read several novels of her Tracers series. But with so many authors to read and so little time, she somehow fell off my ‘reading radar’. Thanks to Netgalley, she is right back on top, and well within my sights again! A great read!! I’m looking forward to more of the Wolfe Security series!!
