My first Laura Griffin novel and it most definitely won’t be my last!
Holy crap! I was hooked instantly and COMPLETELY!!! Laura Griffin makes you live the story! I read this story with my eyes wide open, hands clutching my kindle, and sitting on the edge of my seat! I was completely immersed and filled with anticipation.
This is a thriller MUST READ! I can’t wait to read and devour more books by this author.
While the concept of this book seemed, at first, like an interesting plot line and title to read, this book did not do any justice for me. I read the entire first chapter and was bored beyond the meaning of the word. I tried to jump into chapter 2 thinking that the book would pick up the pace, but it still was not interesting at all. I did not like the writing style of the book and I could not complete it. It was just not my type of read. Sorry.
It was easy to get consumed by this storyline. Following along with Brynn's stressful life was almost too much for me, but I was hooked. Brynn is the lawyer I wanted to be when I went to law school: strong, fearless, confident, smart, prepared and beautiful. Erik is the savior all women imagine: smart, devoted, fiercely loyal, and strong. While Brynn dodges multiple attempts on her life, she's tasked with saving her client's life during trial. While the local police, the Marshall's, and the private security outfit all try to track down an escaped killer, Brynn is backtracking his trial to figure out his motives. It was a very thrilling book, with romance and action to keep the reader immersed.
Desperate Girls by Laura Griffin
Brynn Halloran is a defense attorney who is well known for her competence and confidence in and out of the courtroom. Professionally she is on the top of her game but her personal life is much less successful. She’s married to her job and that doesn’t leave much time or energy for relationships.
When a brutal murder occurs, it appears the culprit may be someone she helped put behind bars. He has a vendetta and may be seeking revenge on everyone connected to his case. Including Brynn. When she is saddled with a body guard from a top-notch security firm, sparks fly.
Erik Morgan, former marine and former secret service agent, is the consummate professional. He is determined to keep Brynn safe even if she fights him on every aspect of her security. But as the danger grows, so does their attraction and he will do just about anything to help Brynn win her case, solve her mystery and keep her safe.
Desperate Girls was a very engaging romantic suspense. Brynn was a strong, smart and likable character. Erik was intelligent, capable and loyal. They made a great, if slightly cool, couple and watching them fight their attraction in the midst of a trial and increasing danger made for an entertaining read. There was just enough peril to make the story hard to put down and the twist at the end was unexpected.
I like that the relationship was intense and sexy but the bedroom scenes weren’t over the top. They added to the story without distracting from it.
While I'm still puzzled by the title, this was a very enjoyable read that I would recommend to fans of romantic suspense. 4 stars.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I've had this ARC for about a month or so and its beyond me why I haven't picked this book. I pretty pretty much spend my whole morning and afternoon sucked into this book and managed to finish it fairly quickly. I loved the characters and that there was multiple point of views of the lawyer, bodyguard and a detective on the case. I usually have a limit for two point of views when it comes to books because more then that would just confuse me but found it easy to follow the different perspectives because of how different they each where. I loved that there was so much drama and twists and turns going on. And when I say so much I don't mean a overwhelming amount there its too much but it was just enough to keep the readers on their toes and hooked to what was going on. Then there was the connection between Brynn and the bodyguard set to her her (Yea cliche but still good!) I thought it was interesting seeing the conflict on that and seeing how hard the Bodyguard was working to keep personal and work separate and him working so hard to keep Brynn safe. Overall it was a pretty great book I really enjoyed it. Highly Recommend!
I had high hopes for this book perhaps due to it’s title, Desperate Girls. However, as I read, I felt I was actually the desperate girl - a girl in desperate need of some action and suspense!!😳
Now please, don’t get me wrong, Desperate Girls is a good read but not one that kept me guessing or gave me any of those warm, fuzzy feelings I’ve grown to expect from a read. A plus, it does have a strong female lead character to which I enjoyed but I needed more thrills. With that said, I’m giving this one 3 stars.❤️
I loved this book. Once I started reading this book I could not put this down. The whole thriller part of this book was interesting to follow. Brynn is a fierce, independent, powerful woman and Erik is her perfect match. She fights him tooth and nail through this whole book and he loves and hates it.It was such fun to read about these two and watch them try and fight their attraction. I hope there are more books with Wolf Security cause I loved reading about all the guys there and think it would be great to have more from them.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
This title lacked likable characters. There was little character development. The story was dull at times.
An interesting legal-romance-suspense-thriller mashup. I was a bit confused by the title, as I am unsure who the girls are and what makes them desperate. I enjoyed this one while I was reading it, but now, a few days later, many of the details are escaping me.
I just finished Desperate Girls by Laura Griffin and I. Loved. It. This book is the first in a new series. Desperate Girls would fall under the romantic suspense genre and it was a great combination of both! I’m so glad that Netgalley introduced me to Laura Griffin, I will definitely be checking out her other books. Bonus points for strong & smart female characters.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the egalley in exchange for an honest review.
I had thought from reading the title that this was a suspense having to do with girls in some kind of peril, but this is not the case. It involves Brynn, a dogged and intelligent lawyer who is prone to rash decisions, and Erik, a sexy and well-maintained bodyguard. Erik is hired to watch over and protect Brynn when a psychopath she helped commit to prison escapes and comes after those who put him behind bars.
This story had a little bit of everything, with a lot of action and a very steamy romance. It was taut with suspense and had one super twist, which I actually figured out early on, but was enjoyable nonetheless. I found Brynn to be a little whiny and annoying at times. Though she was portrayed as a smart woman, she was quite irrational and hotheaded at times and made some stupid choices in regards to her own personal safety. I found this to be a bit of an odd juxtaposition. I found the relationship between Brynn and Erik to be similar to that of characters in Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum books, minus the humor. A good book for Lisa Scottoline fans and those who like books similar to this.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Gallery Books, and Laura Griffin for providing me with a complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Desperate Girls is a riveting book up to the very end. Brynn is so determined that she doesn't need a bodyguard to protect her, that the killer from her past is a coincidence and she is safe. It doesn't matter to Brynn that a killer is after her she is determined to prove her current client is an innocent teenager and does not deserve to spend the rest of his life in prison, even if it costs her her life.
Her body guard, Erik a previous Secret Service Agent, is irresistible and neither of them can keep their hands off each other. Erik knows its wrong but he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep Brynn safe, even if it means protecting her himself.
I thought the book took a little time to get into, and really get to like Brynn. In the beginning she comes off as a know it all. Brynn has too much attitude which slowly dies down as she realizes that is truly in danger and she truly does need Erik and his team to protect her. By the time that I got into the book and the plot had been set, was when I got into the story and actually started liking the characters. When the killer is caught you think that all is left is Brynn and Erik to profess their feelings and go off into the sunset, you don't expect the twist. The twist really does throw you. You really don't expect it, but once things start falling into place you can't finish the story without it. I never expected the true killer to be who it was.
Received ARC from NetGalley and posted an honest review voluntarily.
This is the first book in a new series by Laura Griffin, The Wolfe Security series. It is, most definitely a page-turner!
I was immediately hooked in the first chapter, which starts with the murder of ADA, Jen Ballard. Ms. Griffin does not show the murder or get graphic in this book. In spite of that, this murder makes a strong impact on the reader because of the way the author describes the reactions of the people who knew her.
Brynn Holloran use to be an ADA who worked on the trial of a savage serial killer. The lead ADA was Jen Ballard. Brynn has since become a defense attorney.
The suspense begins when we find out that this serial killer has escaped from prison. The police believe that he is “revenge killing” everyone who helped convict him. That puts Brynn on top of his list. Therefore, Brynn’s boss has hired bodyguards for her.
Erik Morgan becomes one of Brynn’s bodyguards. I love Erik Morgan because he is everything a bodyguard should be. At the same time, he is nothing like a bodyguard. He is strong, tall, serious and always hyper-vigilant. However, he is, also, tender, caring and extremely aware of Brynn’s feelings and emotions.
Brynn is very independent and extremely strong and self-sufficient. She is also a workaholic who works seven days a week on her cases. In spite of this, the reader “watches” as she slowly falls in love with Erik.
However, the center of this book is the thrilling suspense of watching the police and Erik search for this savage killer, while, at the same time, trying,, to protect Brynn. The reader can enjoy many twists and turn and unexpected surprises in this novel.
And, best of all, there is a wonderful surprise ending!
I loved this novel and can’t wait for the next book in this exciting series.
My rating: 4.5 Stars
After friend and judge Jen Ballard is murdered, defense attorney Brynn Holloran and her partner need protection as the suspected killer of the judge may be after them. The suspect in question is a recently escaped murder convict with a mission to go after everyone responsible for his conviction.
Erik Morgan is her primary protection from the recently hired security agency. He is a former Marine and Secret Service Agent and takes his job very seriously. The team includes three agents for each lawyer as the threat is intensely real, especially when another attorney connected with the murder case has been murdered. Brynn doesn't take being guarded so closely very easily. She is strong woman, primarily when it comes to her job, but her personal life is quite off the rails. Brynn is quite stubborn about having three bodyguards. Meanwhile, there is a powerful and undeniable attraction between her and Erik.
Desperate Girls is a fast-paced romantic thriller. I was gripped from the first page and was engaged to the very end. This was a very quick read, and while I am quite pleased that I was able to read this book cover to cover in two sittings, I hated to have to take the interruption that I did. I was enthralled with the exciting suspense. Since this is also a romance, I expected and enjoyed the happy ending, but I was shocked at the conclusion. This is the first book in a new series by Laura Griffin. The security agency is full of hunky heroes which leads to the potential of fantastic books to follow. I look forward to reading every one.
Thank you Gallery Books and NetGalley for this ARC to review; this is my honest opinion.
Brynne Halloran is having a really bad week. She is the prosecutor for a very busy law firm, Blythe and Gunn. A key trial she and her partner are working on that starts in a couple days, has a star witness that’s gone missing.
Jen Ballard, a friend and judge they had worked with before is found murdered in her home, and the person suspected of the murder is a sadistic, violent killer they had sent to Federal prison. He has escaped. Her boss believes Brynn and her partner are on his hit list. He feels she and her partner need protection. But the “protection” is driving her crazy.
Erik Morgan, is the lead agent for Brynne’s protection detail. He works for Wolfe Security. Former Secret Service, big, muscled and carrying weapons is the security teams job, but Brynne feels it is overkill. Three agents, 24/7, an armored car and lots of techno stuff surround her. She hates being ordered around, and is making Erik’s job even more difficult. When dangerous things start happening, and she realizes she actually might be a target, things get serious. Including Erik and Brynne’s attraction to each other. Despite them knowing how wrong it is, they have an incredible night together. It it can be only one night. The danger is escalating, they both need their senses on alert. The suspense and action kept me turning every page as fast as I could! The twist in the end totally took me by surprise! Ms. Griffins stories are always a pleasure to read, but this first in a new series has me anxious for the next.
Thank you to Gallery Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Where has Ms Griffin been hiding all my life??
Okay, so she hasn't, I just sadly have missed out on her all these years...especially if her prior works are just as good.
Trust me, I plan on checking those out but I digress.
Since I can't compare Desperate Girls to any of her prior works what I will say is the Ms Griffin is Julie Garwood good.
Although I didn't quite get how the title plays in with the book or even the cover (maybe a pinch), I will say don't let those things deter you from reading this.
It's a smart, fast paced well written romantic suspense novel. Both the main characters are likable and so are the secondaries and I'm hoping with some of the 'set up' more novels/a series here isn't far behind.
I did figure out most of the plot but that didn't sway me for quickly devouring this novel.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If you like nail-biting suspense, this is your author. I've thoroughly enjoyed every book I've read from her.
This story gets out of the gate from the first chapter and you are propelled on a bumpy ride that is fast paced with a lot of twists and turns.
Bryan is a defense attorney who suddenly needs protection after she learns one of her clients has escaped from a maximum security prison. It is clear he is bent on revenge and is getting too close to her.
Bryan has found the clock security while she is also taking on a case that requires her immediate attention. As she digs deep with the facts, she learns that things don't add up. She leans on Erik, who is part of her security detail, and feelings start to develop. Both know it is a bad idea to get involved but the intensity of their circumstances can't keep them apart.
The plot takes an unexpected turn and your heart is racing because you're feeling the anxiety and conflict that the characters are and that's what this author does best, she gets your heart pumping, wanting more as a reader and not wanting to hurry up and get to the end. Good story telling and given the many characters in the story, I'm guessing and hoping this will become a series.

I am not a fan of spoilers, and while you find it out quickly, the hero's name, and role in the story, are not in the blurb. so I am going to be careful with this review.
Laura Griffin always tells an interesting story, and one that you believe. The trick, I think, to writing romantic suspense is having characters that believe their situation...and acknowledge that making out in the elevator after being chased through the streets of (insert city) and, in this book, they get it, they resist the attraction, and then when they act on it, you believe it.
This book, as you find out in the blurb, is about a woman who is on the top of her game professionally and who really doesn't believe the threat against her is real and that the security is necessary. As it becomes more clear that the threat is real, Brynn becomes more determined to be a part of figuring out what is happening, and of figuring out how to get herself out of the situation...which causes more issues than it solves.
The romance in this is real, and I loved the ending. I love it when a romance works with the characters, and the lives they lead, and figures out a way to still make it work. It works in this one, I enjoyed it, and I recommend it.
Desperate Girls is the start of a new series by Griffin and centers around a private security firm. Security guard/body guard romances are really hit or miss for me; honestly, they are mostly miss. But, if anyone could make it a hit, it's Griffin!
The heroine, Brynn is brilliant. She is a fierce attorney who has been on both sides of the aisle. Currently, she is working as a defense attorney and is getting ready to begin a huge case where she represents an innocent teenager who is charged with murder. As if that isn't stressful enough, a man she helped put in prison years ago has escaped and it appears he is out for revenge.
Erik works for Wolfe and the security firm is hired to keep Brynn and her co-council safe from the killer. His pedigree is pretty impressive: Marines and Secret Service. He has never fallen for a client. Enter Brynn. She wants no part in this security detail and thinks her boss is totally overreacting. She pushes Erik and the team at every turn because she simply won't hide-she cares too much about her current client to bail on him now.
In this story, you know who the bad guy is and why he is on the hunt. What creates the suspense is when he will strike and how. Knowing who the killer is didn't make the story less suspenseful in any way! There was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming either and that is unusual. Brynn and Erik have lots of sexual tension building up throughout the story and honestly, you aren't sure how they could make a relationship work.
Desperate Girls will appeal to romantic suspense fans for sure. Lots of action, lots of characters, lots of chemistry! I am excited to see where Griffin takes this series because it has a lot of potential
I enjoyed this book and read it quickly. It's not part of The Tracers series but the author makes reference to familiar characters without it being in your face. Another great read from Laura Griffin.
