Good story, good suspense and I really liked the little twist at the end. Erik and Brynn get along as long as he doesn't try to give her orders. How is he supposed to guard her if she won't listen to him. Both are very head strong people and their relationship is explosive. As they get to know each other, they realize they are a lot alike and that they may not survive the one man they are hunting. As Brynn tries to keep up with a high profile case she is trying, she is trying to keep away from a killer. All Erik wants is to keep Brynn safe. Will he also be able to keep her in his life after all of this is over?

Desperate Girls is my first book by Laura Griffin. While the back cover blub caught my attention, I wasn't pulled into the story. Told from three different points of view, while informative, tended to get somewhat muddled. I enjoyed the police procedure portion of the book. However, it came down to a typical romance of protector and protectee. I do wish the characters had been developed just a little more. While the ride was not quite as spicy as the book promised, the reader is still brought along on a mild water river adventure. I would recommend this book. I received a copy through Netgalley. My review was not required.

This book was amazing. I had a hard time putting the book down. It had equal parts of romance and thriller/ mystery. Brynn is a smart tough lawyer. This book was a fun read the way the story unraveled was awesome. Highly recommend.

Brynn Holloran is a sharp witted former prosecutor who is now working as a defense attorney. When people who were involved in the prosecution of a serial killer start turning up dead, her life is in danger from that escaped killer. He's out to prove a point and is going to take her out too.

Eric is assigned to be Brynn's bodyguard and protect the bad guy from getting to her. He's good at his job because he stays focused on the assignment. But what happens when he falls for the lady he's assigned to protect?

This is a quickly paced thriller with romance thrown in. And a twist in the last few chapters that I definitely didn't see coming!

Defense attorney Brynn Holloran is intense and driven and doesn't understand why they need so much security to protect her. Brynn is lead defense attorney on a trial in Dallas and wants to give her client the best defense. Erik, the team leader on her protection detail, wants to keep Brynn safe. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through Netgallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. Though Brynn is occasionally annoying in her insistence to do things her own way and to be control, I can emphasize with her. This is a very suspenseful book alternatively told through Brynn, Erick, and Lindsey, a detective from the sheriff's office. There is an escaped convict looking for revenge, a missing witness, a trial in jeopardy, romance, some steamy scenes, and dealing with constant surveillance. This was a book that I hated to put down.

I’ve been in a big mystery/thriller mood lately and when I saw this book I thought it’d be a great book to dive into for not only my typical romance fix but also a mystery/thriller fix as well. Dangerous Girls follows Brynn Holloran a DA who’s been placed under protection of a security team after a judge close to her is murdered. Brynn is a tough as nails woman who knows how to do for herself and doesn’t think she needs any protection. But after another murder, it’s found that the killer must be seeking out anyone who helped put him behind bars. Since she had a hand in it protection seems like the best bet to keep her safe until the killer is captured. What Brynn doesn’t expect is the brooding Erik, he says only a few words when needed and takes his job very seriously. The two of them try to avoid the chemistry between them because crossing that professional line could mean potential danger. But with all the time they have to spend together during her protection they learn that sometimes rules can be broken no matter how hard you try not to.

Overall I did find myself enjoying this book. I really think it's perfect for readers who don't like too much suspense or grit in their reads, but are still looking for something a little different than just a contemporary. In my personal opinion this isn't a huge edge of your seat thriller, there were so parts that kind of went there, but it wasn't overwhelming or anything if that makes sense. I think this is a good place to start for romance readers who are looking to get a little more into mysteries or thrillers.

I think the story-line in Desperate Girls was pretty solid, everything flowed nicely and kept me wanting to keep reading so that I could see how everything would unfold. The characters were pretty likable and didn't annoy me too much. Brynn was tough as nails and fought hard to make a name for herself and be successful in such a male dominated field. She didn't let any sexism placed on her by anyone stop her from being who she was.But I do think she was too headstrong at times, she knew that her life was in danger and that someone was after her but she barely listened to the rules given to her. I understand use to being strong and independent but when your security team tells you what's safe and unsafe to do, then idk maybe listen so you don't put yourself in deadly situations🤷 Erik was a brooding man who was dedicated to his job and did everything by the book. He had never strayed until Brynn because she intrigued him like no one else ever had (yeah pretty cliche but I'm trash for such things ok?!). I love a good broody male mc, especially when they go all gaga and protective for the girl so this was my jaaaaammmmm. He was silent unless he had something of importance to say, and even then he still only said what was needed and nothing else. If you're like me and you're trash for the brood then you'd like Erik lol. But even though all of that is a mood for me I felt like his character was a little off sometimes in the sense that one minute he was all about being super professional, then the next he was feeling all these strong emotions, then he was back to wanting to only be professional. I know this brings in the angst and all, and I typically don't have an issue with situations like this but I think that it needed to be developed a bit better for me at least.

I do think once a certain point was reached the pacing of the relationship got a little too quick for me but I guess when there's a killer on the loose looking for you some things become less important🤷. Also towards the end the pacing got a bit rushed to me.

I also do wish there was a bit more edge to this one. I love being shook and I felt like I wanted a bit more of that while reading. Like I said, if you don't like too much suspense or thrill in your books then this would be great for you. But I love a little more grit when it comes to books like this one

If you're a big romance reader looking for a small little change to your reading, without deviating too much from romance then I think this is a great book for you. You get a dash of suspense with your usual romance fix, and sometimes a little change can be good. I still think that I'd be interested in continuing on with the series to see what happens next, and I also plan on checking out some of the author's previous series as well!!

Desperate Girls
Laura Griffin

Filled with non-stop unpredictable twists and turns keeping reader’s hearts in their throats and on the edge of their seats from page one until “ The End”, Desperate Girls will undoubtedly go down as one of the year’s best Romantic Suspense novels. The stars are both likeable and believable, both lonely, both alphas each with their share of strengths and vulnerabilities with sexual chemistry that is off the charts. Using the perfect words and just the right tone and this masterful author’s iconic in your face with an attitude dialogue readers are treated to the biggest emotional bang for their buck. Her secondary characters both good and bad are exceptional and there’s a cameo from a character from the legendary Tracers series. Laura wraps things up with a nice big bow but not before delivering a heart-stopping OMG I did not see that coming ending. Every page was fantastic but it’s the tender love story that will leave a lasting memory in this best-seller bound, keeper shelf read.
SUMMARY:
Defense attorney Brynn Holloran is at the top of her game and she’s lead counsel on a big case starting soon in Dallas when she learns a sadistic killer she helped put behind bars when she worked as a prosecutor just escaped prison and he’s apparently started another killing spree only this time he’s targeting everyone who helped put him away. So far he’s killed the then lead prosecutor and a retired detective who worked the case. Afraid that Brynn and her partner have made that list her boss hires Wolfe Security, the best in the business to protect them. Brynn has a big problem with taking orders and soon she and her, ex-military, by the rules, buff bodyguard are butting heads while serious sexual sparks are lighting the night sky.
Erik Morgan is a by the book kind of guy, when he tells a client to jump he expects to be asked how high, that is until his current client, the headstrong, bullheaded, impossible and beautiful attorney who’s in more danger than she thinks, who is constantly pushing his buttons and who he’s having trouble keeping at arms length. Heaven help him!

I have read all of Laura Griffin’s books and Desperate Girls follows a similar formula to engage the reader which includes action, suspense and romance. Desperate Girls starts off quick with a brutal revenge killing that links a criminal defense team that includes Attorney Brynn Halloran and her Attorney partner. As a result they are given 24/7 protection. The best team for the job is a Private Security firm owned by recurring character from the Tracers Series Liam Wolfe. Liam puts his hunky team of former military members on the job including a former Secret Service agent that is too hot and capable for defense attorney Brynn Halloran to resist. What follows is a fast-paced read of seduction, crime, intense suspenseful action all intertwined in a race to catch a killer hell bent on revenge.
Desperate Girls felt a little rushed and incomplete to me compared to Laura Griffin’s previous books. The characters, crimes and scenarios did not feel fully fleshed out but more like a lot of ideas and ploys to make things more interesting. The book was still an entertaining read with enjoyable characters.

Romantic police procedural- yes, this is that genre. Told from three points of view, it's a mix of detectives trying to solve the murder of a judge, an attorney hoping to meet the same fate, and the man assigned to protect the attorney. Brynn and Erik start off cold and neither is especially impressed with the other. You know how things are going to turn out between them. My quibble with this is first and foremost the title, which is completely unrelated to the plot of the novel. I also think the mixing and mashing may have diluted both plot lines (the mystery and the romance). That said, it's a good read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ArC.

Introduce a hard working Lawyer, Brynn who finds herself a target of a serial murderer, the private security company hired to protect her, Erik the handsome guy in charge of her safety, a murder case of Brynn's own to defend, and it all adds up to a romantic suspense novel that's a fun read. I enjoyed Griffin's character development, the legal content for the trial Brynn's determined to continue with even while under threat, and the plot well developed to bring it all together. It's quick, it's light, it's an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this romantic suspense. Both of the characters chemistry and build was great both in and out of the courtroom. I loved the suspense though it was a bit predictable. It was a great change of pace for me since I normally read romance. I was entranced the whole book! Will definitely read more by Laura Griffin!

Desperate Girls by Laura Griffin is the first romantic suspense i have ever read. The story itself was very predictable but enjoyable. I liked the mixture of romance and the courtroom/thriller plot. I wasn't expecting the twist at the end! I wasn't blown away by this book but it did keep my attention. Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

When a defense attorney with a potential target on her back goes toe-to-toe with the sexy alpha male assigned to keep her safe, attraction quickly follows suit. But don’t let that description fool you—“Desperate Girls” serves up a helluva lot more than romance. It delivers a compelling, suspenseful story that kept me riveted from start to finish.

To quickly summarize, an escaped murderer is on a killing spree, determined to seek vengeance on all those he blames for his conviction. Brynn Holloran is just one among several who helped to put this man away. But despite the fear she stubbornly shoves aside, Brynn is determined to carry on and do her job--something that is impeded by the stifling presence of the security team employed to keep her safe. Boasting multiple storylines and various POV’S, “Desperate Girls” is best classified as a romantic suspense--one that is compelling, well balanced and multifaceted.

"Desperate Girls" is the first book I've read by author Laura Griffin, and it surely won't be the last. Reading this novel in just one sitting, I was captivated right from the very beginning all the way through till the very end. The story was very well executed, with a perfect mix of suspense and romance avoiding any unnecessary fluff. Gripping with an unexpected twist, this is one of my top reads of the year!

First I want to thank netgalley and the author for for an advanced copy of the book for my kindle. I could t connect with the main character Brynn. The book starts with the murder of a judge who happened to be brynns former boss. Brynns current boss hires a security team to protect the lawyers while the killer is loose. Of course this book has the sexual tension between Erik her security guard and brynn. I feel like this story line has already played out before . I’m getting bored with the same story line. Killer loose girl needs protection walks in handsome man to protect her she sleeps with him killer caught . I give this book three stars generously .

Loved this! I've never read Laura before but I was in a mood for a suspenseful novel. This delivered ten-fold. Loved the dynamic with Brynn. She was a strong, witty heroine who had great chemistry with Erik, the hunky security agent assigned to her. I look forward to more from Laura, and hopefully from the Wolf Security crew

This book cover and synopsis grabbed me right away I was so excited to receive an ARC through Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.

I really wanted to love this one and I just didn't. It was a good read though. I liked it well enough. And it there were plenty of action packed moments along with some twists and of course romance. This was a first for me by this author and I would gladly read her again.
