4 Stars.

Meredith Price’s car is found in the parking lot of a grocery store. Driver’s side door wide open, keys and phone found inside. Meredith, as you may already have guessed, is nowhere to be found. Has she run away or has she been kidnapped? She has the perfect life - married to Andrew Price, a kind, wonderful, successful man who loves and provides for her in a way that no man ever has. Her life is one of luxury and opulence, which she achieved only by marriage. Her older sister Greer is convinced that there is no way Meredith would have run from it.

Greer and Meredith are exact opposites. Struggle has always been Greer’s middle name - she has had to fight for every single thing she has ever had - including her chain of coffee shops in NYC. Working with her best friend and former boyfriend every day isn’t easy, but Greer and Harris wouldn’t have it any other way.

When Meredith goes missing, Greer drops everything to go and find her. Meredith seems to have disappeared into thin air and even the police have no answers. Say what?! And yet, Greer does not give up. We are talking about her sister!!

Everything goes awry from that point forward. You begin to question what is real and what is not. I was glued to the pages… anxiously turning them as quickly as possible. This was my first Minka Kent novel and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it, especially given the mixed reviews. My suggestion - don’t read them, just experience this suspenseful book for yourself!

This was a buddy read with Kaceey. So glad we read this when we did, it was exactly what we needed!.

Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas and Mercer and Minka Kent for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Published on NetGalley and Goodreads on 8.21.18.

Newlywed Meredith Price seems to have it all: a sprawling mansion in a highly desirable mountain resort community; an older, but insatiably attractive husband whose wealth knows no end; and any and everything that money can buy.

But Meredith's infatuation with her husband and the lavish lifestyle he lives begins to dissipate when the reality of marriage sets in.

There's the obnoxious, spoiled stepchildren Meredith has to entertain, children who resent her for breaking up their parents' marriage. There are the cliquish older women in the neighborhood who gossip about her and her husband, Andrew, and who think she is just the newest flavor of the month for him. And then there's Andrew, whose behavior as of recent seems to confirm the neighbors' speculation that Meredith is just a new plaything for him to admire until he tires of her and moves on to a younger version of her.

Meredith feels as though there is so much more to life than wealth and comfort. Meredith starts to feel trapped by Andrew, who expects her to play house and keep up appearances for the neighbors. Bored with the life foisted upon her, Meredith ventures outside of her home, enrolling in self-defense classes taught by a local detective. Soon, she finds her heart straying from Andrew and becomes entangled in several relationships, one of which may lead to her demise.

When Meredith goes missing, her sister, Greer, must face some hard truths about her baby sister. Greer learns that her sister and family members kept secrets, some of which may provide clues as to what happened to Meredith. Did Meredith take off and abandon everyone for a reason? Is she safe, or in serious danger? Did Meredith's husband find out about her infidelities and harm her? Or is something else going on?

This book is a heart-pounding page-turner perfect for the beach or vacation. I liked how the narrative switched between Meredith and Greer, which gave the reader insight into how two very different people can have different versions of the "truth." I highly recommend this book to fans of suspense and psychological thrillers.

Thank you to the author, Minka Kent, the publisher, Thomas & Mercer, and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of The Thinnest Air.

4 Fast Paced Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a fast paced page turning psychological thriller that started with a bang and ended with a fizzle... I started this book with lowered expectations... five of my trusted book Besties read this before me, and I knew they were all disappointed.... and I want to thank all of them for lowering my expectations, because I think I enjoyed this book so much more because of that.... Truly for me up until about 82% this book was brilliant.... I thought my girls were being super unfair to this book as I quickly turned those pages to find out what the heck was going on! And then...... The reveal..... it was such a letdown and it happened really early... I spent the last 10% of this book waiting for the other shoe to drop and it is still dangling on my foot!

Meredith has gone missing... disappearing into thin air, leaving behind her purse and her phone.... did she run away or was she snatched? Why would she leave her seemingly happy marriage? And who would take her?

Loved how this story was revealed to us... we got Meredith’s perspective leading up to the kidnapping and Grier’s ( Meredith’s big sister) perspective after the kidnapping... Grier was a devoted big sister and was not going to stop until Meredith was found! Grier was my favorite character in this book strong, sassy, and determined.... we all need a sibling like her in our lives! Made me wonder what my brothers would do if I were to go missing? They would probably throw a party, LOL I always told my mom I wanted a sister... I’m sure she would be out looking for me unlike those brothers of mine! Let’s hope I never go missing! OK back to the book....

This was a well told story with plenty of suspects and secrets... and as things were slowly revealed Grier found out she did not know her little sister as well as she thought... also as things were revealed I became more and more suspicious of certain characters.... where this book fell short for me is in the ending it was just so vanilla... and I prefer Rocky Road!

I do recommend this book because it was really good up until the ending and, I think if you read it with the expectations of a lackluster ending you’ll enjoy it...Minka Kent has a very readable and smooth style about her writing making this a very quick read...

*** many thanks to Thomas & Mercer for my copy of this book ***

It looks as if I am in the minority with my thoughts on The Thinnest Air. I was not a fan. Not at all. I did not like any of the characters and I found it predictable and boring.

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer publishing for an opportunity to read and review The Thinnest Air.

A brilliant and surprisingly easy read. The book is fast paced and slow at the same time! Fast paced because it moves the past to present on alternating chapters and is extremely succinct. And slow because the ‘perfect’ world that is presented to us initially is being chipped away with small statements sneaked in ever so often. It’s like you see one crack and then another and then one more and suddenly your begin to realize that there a whole lot of cracks are appearing in Meredith’s perfect life. No red flags just cracks. The story is moving from the past to present and the present is slowly trodding along and all you can do as a reader is wait for the two narratives to catch up and explode in to a brilliant twist. I love how the author is able to present to us the story in a crisp manner. No unnecessary words or irrelevant details and yet it pulls you in deep quickly. The characters are distinct and you form opinions and bonds with them quickly. This makes it a hard to put down kind of a book. You can’t wait to find out what happened to Meredith. You form all sorts of theories in your head but you don’t know which one is the correct one till Minka Kent decides to tell you. The reveal is a nice twist but after that the ending seems a little rushed. I’m happy I got my hands on it. I like this book more than The Perfect Roommate which Minka Kent authored before this one. I loved Minka Kent’s writing style and am definitely going to read all her other work and keep my eyes peeled for her next.

Wow! This book was cray, cray good. Once I got into it, I could not put it down! It was seriously crazy with plot twists and the number of suspects? - that would be everyone in the book.

There was one big huge jaw dropper moment and I was like Yowza! Then, the real story is revealed. OMG - cray, cray.

This was my first book by this author and it definitely will not be my last. I really got into this book.

Thanks to Thomas and Mercer and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

This book is absolutely fantastic! I literally could not put it down! It’s the best book I’ve read in a few years! It was so easy to get into, and I didn’t want it to end. This is the first book I’ve read by Minka Kent, but I am looking forward to reading everything else she writes.

Meredith is on honeymoon with Andrew. Her sister, Greer, and others think that she shouldn't have married Andrew in such haste. Meredith is half Andrew's age and some think it is a "sugar daddy" arrangement. BUT THEY REALLY LOVE EACH OTHER!!! Although it is his third marriage, this one will stick...

Meredith's (half) sister, Greer, lives in NYC. Greer's love of 10 years, Harris, currently lives separately from Greer. Yet, the two still own businesses together (and love each other). One day, Greer pounds on Harris' door, "I'm leaving for Utah - Meredith is missing!" He has no real thoughts one way or the other for Meredith, but he comforts Greer - telling her to keep in touch and that he'll run the coffee shops.

Andrew's story about his missing wife: "It was just an ordinary day... I left for work..." Greer arrives in Utah and goes door to door searching for Meredith. The next day Meredith/Greer's mother arrives - mom is all about drama and her rich son-in-law. A plea on national television ensues (of course) to help find Meredith. Stoic Andrew announces to all that Meredith is pregnant.

This story switches back and forth between the days since Meredith and Andrew have been married and days since Meredith's been missing. This actually works quite well and enhances the story rather than confuses!

Time passes and the reader finds out that Meredith had an affair with Ronan, the FORMER cop on this case
Former, due to conflict of interest. They had continued to miss each other once the affair ended. All the while, Andrew was cognizant of Meredith's dalliances.

Another player is Erica, Andrew's second wife, (and mother of his two (awful) children. Greer checks her out for any possibility of her involvement in her sister's missing case. It seems as if Erica has quite moved on.

Quick reading as we are caught between Andrew and Ronan being guilty. Or perhaps a longshot kidnapper?

We find out that Meredith knew her kidnapper. And that is just the beginning.

Just when the reader believes that there are no surprises to be had - WOW!!! That is when the flames are fueled! A brilliant read with an even MORE brilliant conclusion. Whatever you do, don't miss this one - a definite MUST READ!

My thanks to Thomas & Mercer Publishing and NetGalley for a thrill of a ride!

This was a quick paced book full of mystery and suspense that wasn't easily anticipated. It had me hooked until the end. Would definitely recommend it.

I discovered the work of author Minka Kent early in 2017, and I was immediately struck by her ability to craft a story that is utterly chilling and compulsively readable. So when I saw that her latest novel, The Thinnest Air, was available for review, I was eager to get my hands on a copy.

Meredith Price has gone missing, and no one seems to have a clue where she's gone. She's married to Andrew Price, an extremely wealthy, middle-aged financial mogul who seems to worship the ground his pretty young wife walks on. Her car was found abandoned in the parking lot of a local grocery store with her purse, phone, and keys inside, and despite the efforts of the police and volunteer searchers, no leads to her whereabouts have been uncovered.

Greer Ambrose, Meredith's older sister, has never been a fan of Andrew's. He's significantly older than Meredith, and Greer can't shake the feeling that he married her sister in response to some kind of midlife crisis. She's sure he views Meredith as just another one of his many possessions, and she wonders if he might have something to do with her strange disappearance. Frustrated by the lead detective's seeming inability to learn anything useful about what happened to Meredith, Greer begins an investigation of her own, determined to bring her sister home before it's too late.

Unfortunately for Greer, Meredith's trail really does seem to have grown cold. No one in the sleepy little town where Andrew and Meredith have lived for the three years since they got married is able to shed any light on the life of the couple. In fact, Greer begins to wonder if any of these people really knows her sister at all. She doesn't seem to have made many friends, and the ones she does have seem convinced that Meredith was living an absolutely perfect life. But Greer won't give up until she learns the truth, even if the truth she uncovers threatens to destroy her.

The story moves seamlessly back in forth in time and is told in alternating chapters from both Meredith's and Greer's points of view. Greer narrates the events immediately following her sister's disappearance, while Meredith's chapters show readers what led up to it. It's not uncommon for authors to employ this narrative style, and it's one I'm particularly fond of since I love seeing things from more than one perspective. It works really well here. Meredith and Greer have very distinct personalities, and I came away from the story feeling I knew both women intimately.

Neither sister is particularly likable. Meredith is shallow, vain, and incredibly self-centered, and I honestly couldn't understand what Andrew saw in her. She is constantly thinking about how beautiful she is and how many men practically fall at her feet the moment they lay eyes on her. Greer is much less obsessed with her own fabulousness, but she possesses a no-nonsense, take-charge attitude that grated on me at times. It's obvious she loves Meredith fiercely, but I sometimes felt like she flew off the handle with very little provocation and then blamed it on her desperation to bring Meredith home.

The novel contains several great twists that I in no way saw coming. I did manage to figure out a few small things, but the big reveal left me stunned, and that, in my opinion, is the mark of a great thriller.

At just under three-hundred pages, this is a book you can easily read in a single sitting. In fact, if you're anything like me, you won't want to put it down once you get started, so do yourself a favor and carve out a few hours so you can completely lose yourself in this gem. I promise you won't be sorry.

There are lots of books out there about missing women, but The Thinnest Air is one of the best I've read. Minka Kent is a true master of her craft, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. If her future works are even half as good as this one turned out to be, I'll be one happy reader.

First I want to thank netgalley and the author for allowing me an advanced copy of this book. The book starts off introducing us Meredith and Andrew newlyweds . Meradith is quite younger than Andrew. Andrew treats Meredith as a trophy wife and she starts to alllow it to bother her. One day Meredith goes to the grocery store and disappears the police find her car with the keys and her purse in it. The book goes back and forth between Meredith and her sister Greer. Greer is trying find her missing sister, and starts to dig into her sisters life. Meredith’s side of the story is the events that led to her going missing. This book I give 3.5 stars it was a quick read I also figured out the mystery part quickly. If your looking for a light mystery and quick read this book is for you.

I recently purchased and read “The Memory Watcher” by this author and it was just the type of psychological thriller I love. Addictive, twisty and with divisive well drawn characters.

So I was interested to see if Minka Kent could do that again and the answer is, yes indeed she can. The Thinnest Air is a fast paced page turner told from the alternating points of view of two sisters – One missing, one searching. A clever and unpredictable mystery element, together with the intriguing sibling relationship these two share gave this story a lot of heart and soul.

Minka Kent writes layers well, your  perception of the characters changes and whilst she doesn’t give you too many suspects they all ebb and flow as the story goes, you are not sure what the truth is until the reveal.

I read this in one sitting, spending a couple of hours in the company of Meredith and Greer and it was an excellent read first page to last.

Let me start out by saying O.M.G. This book really grabbed my attention and did not let go. I knew going into it that it would be a suspenseful book by the synopsis. It alternates between the point of view of Meredith, the younger sister and Greer, the older one.
Meredith is young and pretty and married to Andrew, a well to do business man significantly older than her. She talks about how she is so in love with him and that she was swept off her feet. He plucked her from a waitress job and brought her to a resort town. They make a very attractive couple and she discussed how he makes her feel safe and taken care of. They give off the perfect marriage vibe and that they are head over heels in love.
Her sister, Greer is a successful Coffee shop owner with her on and off again boyfriend Harris. Greer comes off cynical and cool in the beginning. She has that “I don’t trust anyone “attitude. They live in New York and seem to have a good friendship with the undercurrent of something more. Harris is kind of a side character who ends up the savior at the end. He also seems cool and kind of standoffish when he is first introduced.
Meredith and Greer’s mom, Brenda is nothing short of a flake. You realize this towards the beginning when you see how Greer took care of her sister because her mom was too busy chasing around men. I had a dislike for her once she showed up after the disappearance and was all about the cameras and being portrayed as the perfect worried mom.
Ronan Is the small-town detective who wiggles his way between Meredith and Andrew when Meredith isn’t feeling so wanted anymore. Even though at first you think when the idea is introduced that there is no way but later when she talks about it, I kind of sided with her. I was swooned by him too. He comes off as a likeably guy who wanted to make her feel special.
Boy was I wrong with that one. I went back and forth for most of the book as to who could have been responsible for her disappearance. One minute I was sure Andrew was behind it, then maybe the stalker that turned out to not even exist, then maybe Harris. But I really didn’t see Ronan, the loveable detective being behind it. He ends up being the kidnapper and literally snatching her from the grocery store in broad daylight, which I’m still not sure how that happened. Harris comes to her rescue after getting a phone call from Meredith in the cabin because that’s the only phone number she can remember.
This is also after Ronan holds Greer hostage because according to him, she is asking too many questions. You can see that after Meredith was taken that Ronan is a little unhinged and obsessed with the idea that they are supposed to be together. Pretty much no matter what. So, when Greer and Ronan are coming back from Vermont and she gets a phone call from Harris, you can feel the suspense build as she can only make out a few words from him. One of them was Ronan.
In the end, both ladies are rescued and reunited with each other and their loved ones. Ronan is shot and arrested. Pretty clean ending.
I really liked the way the characters were written and I noticed myself siding with one or the other throughout the book. Overall, this was a fast-paced thriller that kept me interested from beginning to end. I would have liked some more of the story of the aftermath just to see how they carried on after. I will certainly be reading more of Minka Kent.
