If you love cute art and challenging the binary system, put this one on your TBR. The cover will grab you and the art style will hold you! Solid start to the series.

The next installment of Cucumber Quest gives you more insight into The Nightmare Knight, and will leave you wanting more information.

The Cucumber Quest is such a cute comic. I especially like that this series makes comic books and graphic novels, particularly quest-style comics, more easily accessible to girls who might be reluctant to get into comics!

The characterization in this series is phenomenal! And the soft, vibrant colors work well for the adventurous nature of the story and characters. It is definitely a series that I've been recommending to friends and family. We even donated a volume or two (I forget!) to a local 3rd grade classroom, which loved it! I look forward to seeing where this adventure is headed. May have to hunt down the webcomic in the mean time.

At first, I found this series sort of empty and weird. As it has progressed it's developed far more complexity. This volume, in particular, adds a great deal not only to the plot to the characters. THe villains in particular are fully fleshed out. We see them as people with conflicting desires, who are simply playing a role determined by destiny or some such and who may in fact want to lose. A great twist that leaves the series open for any number of conclusions.

Loved the design of this comic! The comic design and characters are really cute. I love the color palette, and although I’m still not sure what the technique or medium of the illustration is, I like that it almost looks like pastel, with watercolor or gouache, it has a nice texture.

The story was really fun to follow. Sir Carrot, Nautilus, Cucumber, and Almond get themselves involved in a, sort of, fashion contest. They get separated, reunited, and then find themselves in trouble against Rosemaster. My favorite part was seeing Rosemaster’s story unfold. She goes through different phases and her story becomes really intriguing. I hope we get to see more of her at some point in the future. Then there’s this pretty moment between Sir Carrot and princess Parfait, which has a beautiful illustrated flashback. And finally, there is very interesting scene between Peridot and Sir Nightmare that you can’t miss..

Cucumber Quest: The Flower Kingdom is a fun volume for all ages and the artwork is something to appreciate. There are several interesting moments within the story that leave you wanting more and trying to figure out what will happen next. As a comic reader, I recommend Cucumber Quest: The Flower Kingdom!

Our heroes head on to the Flower Kingdom to find the princess so she can sign the sword and they can continue in their quest to defeat the Nightmare Knight. But things in the Flower Kingdom don’t go quite like normal. For one thing, the royal family disappeared ages ago. For another thing, the disaster master in the Flower Kingdom is tired of going by the script. Meanwhile, Peridot is confused about which side she should be on and the Knightmare Knight shares some of his deeper secrets with friends he trusts.

The plotline in this series veers from the normal in this book to explore some of the deeper motivations and backstory of how the whole quest cycle got started. It definitely adds depth to the overarching story if not being quite as adrenaline-driven as some of the other books. (There’s still some action, but there’s more chunks of dialogue and introspection than normal.) I think this series needs a character guide in the front or back of the book for readers. It is hard to keep ALL of the various side characters (there are over a dozen now) straight from book to book. That will be less of an issue when all the books are out and you can devour them one right after another, but when you have to wait several months between books it is a little challenging. I’m waffling between 3 and 4 stars for this one. I really liked the plot developments (and the scenes with the Knightmare Knight and Peridot were hilarious), but the flow of the book felt a little disjointed. So consider it 3.5. Overall, this series is a good choice for middle graders who like fantasy quests and cutesy graphic novels.

Notes on content [Based on ARC]: No language issues. There are a few couples among the characters (both heterosexual and homosexual) but no kissing or anything. There are some fight scenes, but no one gets seriously hurt.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Art so sweet it will hurt your teeth! I've recommended this for fans of Steven Universe and Adventure Time. The fourth addition to the Cucumber Quest series, it is an adventure with some offbeat humor that makes the quirkiness of the world enjoyable. Recommended for juvenile shelves with a large graphic novel shelf.

Cucumber and his merry band of adventurers continue to the Flower Kingdom, where they find the Rosemaster. This volume picked up a lot of previously laid plot threads which was super fun. The downside was that I found some of it a little hard to follow, particularly around the Rosemaster herself, and occasionally the font was hard to see. But, with gender stereotypes thrown by the wayside, a pair of gay kings (and allusions to a f/f crush), and a hero and a villain who both want to just get along with everyone, this series has so much more going on than just the frothy delightful pictures suggest.

Cute next installment in the series. Always a great little adventure. Loving the twists we meet along the way and the art is as always really well done.

I love the graphics, so brightly colored and eye catching, the cover too. I love the characters and the story line. I never would have imagined I would enjoy a story line focused on rabbits, but it works!!! I am recommending this series to our middle grade patrons, they love graphic novels! I think it will take off!!!!

Ooo this one is really full of intrigue! The lines of good and evil might be blurring slightly, there might be more factions than we knew, and the Disaster Masters are not as happy as they may seem! I am thoroughly enjoying this series, though my only complaint would be that it can be hard to tell characters apart and those we haven't seen in a while pop back up but I can't remember what they did before...and this one had quite the cliffhanger ending! Can't wait for the next installment!

The first Cucumber Quest by Gigi D.G. book was such a hit in my classroom, when I heard that the next three were coming out quite quickly, I knew I had to get to them, and thanks to Netgalley I was able to read the third one early. Each GN takes the hero through a new kingdom and a new monster. Now I am just waiting for the next one!
