Five strangers wake up in a room together. There's a body in the bathroom. One of them is the murderer, and now Morgan Sheppard has only three hours to figure out who it is, or they'll all die.

This one is rough because the first two thirds of this were absolutely thrilling. I could not put it down and just loved the way things were moving and the small hints we were getting sprinkled throughout. Unfortunately, the last third (you know, when we find out what happened) really fell flat for me. That's probably because I've been reading some amazing avant-garde mysteries lately that really push the envelope in terms of complexity, but it's also because the entire plot is appallingly obvious as soon as they actually tell you anything about the characters. It's less of an OhhH!!!!! and more of a oh.

Maybe check out Guess Who if you really like mysteries or want a quick read, but definitely make sure you haven't read any amazingly written ones before hand because it's going to suffer in comparison.

Guess Who is currently available everywhere books are sold.

In this age of reality tv, this book had an intriguing premise. The writing is good as it builds suspense. The characters could have been rounded out a bit more, and there was a bit of confusing jumping around in the story. I found myself not especially caring who the killer was - none of the characters were particularly sympathetic. I enjoyed the whole idea of the story and feel the author did a good job with it.

3.5 stars. Minor celebrity Morgan Sheppard wakes up inside a locked hotel room with five other people and a body and is told he had three hours to solve a murder. This book was fast-paced and devilishly fun! I agree with the Saw meets Agatha Christie comparisons, and it's a blast to read. I did think it fizzled out a bit in the end and didn't end as strongly as most of the book had been. Still it's a fun and thrilling read, and I would recommend it fur anyone looking for some murderous escapist fun.

Guess Who was a refreshing, fast-paced, locked room mystery that will keep you reading from beginning to end - you know that kind of non-stop reading where taking meal breaks gets annoying. This one has great, unique characters and a very solid premise that holds up. It is entertaining, fun, and twisty! Readers will want to get there hands on Guess Who asap!

Talk about a ride of a lifetime. This story starts in present day and flashes back to the 11 year old star of the stories’ life. There is a murder, people have been know kidnapped and placed into a hotel room and al so the tv star can solve the murder. Is it really the murder being solved that is the main objective though? You have to read until the end to untangle thiscomplex story.. well worth the time!

4.5 stars

Guess Who is unlike any other book I’ve ever read before. I’m giving it 4 stars based on the novel, but 5 stars based on originality. I’m surprised no one has though if this concept yet.

Imagine if this happened to you? A dead body. A room. 5 suspects and you only have three hours to find the killer. Personally I would freak out. But I’m very glad that this hasn’t happened to me and hopefully it stays that way. But honestly, it’s just so good. It’s so thrilling, so innovative and I couldn’t stop reading.

I devoured it in one day and I was upset when it was over. It wasn’t too long, which was good because I found that it was wrapped very nicely. Now I don’t know about you, but I would love a sequel. A darker more twisted second book. I couldn’t get enough.

There’s something about people being locked in a room with dead body that just makes this novel so enjoyable. I loved how it went back and forth and as the novel progressed, details slowly uncovered. The murdered was hard to figure out, but once it’s figured out, it’s easy to see where we missed the little hints the author leaves but it shocked me for sure. But it’s easy to suspect anyone of them. That’s the good thing about this novel. You don’t know who did it until the last few chapters.

A great twisty psychological thriller that I think thriller readers will enjoy!

The premise of this book intrigued me: a small group of people wake up in a hotel room which contains a dead body. Morgan Sheppard is a man famous for his role as a purported detective on TV. The group is told that one person in the room is the murderer, and that Morgan has a limited amount of time to discover his/her identity. If he cannot do so, the entire hotel will be blown up.

Sheppard sets about attempting to solve the mystery, but it's a pretty pathetic attempt, to be honest. He is suffering withdrawal because he is usually pumped up with drugs and alcohol. It's a pretty lame attempt, and he's not a very sympathetic character, so I wasn't really rooting for him. At some points, the perspective of the book changed from one person to another without transition, and it was a bit confusing. This was a promising debut novel though, and I'm sure the author's writing will only get better.

Guess Who was intense and creepy. An exhilarating read. I honestly could not decide who I should be rooting for in this novel. Sheppard was despicable for his behavior but endearing in his need to actually help. The twists and turns kept me guessing. I was lost until the entire story of Sheppard’s past was revealed. Overall an excellent mystery.

One Room.... 5 Suspects....3 Hours to find a Killer.

The rules are simple.

But the game is not.

"Use the Anger. Don't let it control you. You control it."

This was a new spin on your Saw and Clue with a little bit of the game, Guess who in the mix. The main character, Morgan Sheppard is known as a TV Celebrity Detective for solving true crime. The book starts you off in a locked room with 5 characters you will soon to want to know more about and with Morgan Sheppard waking up to find himself handcuffed to a bed. They don't know where they are, however, they are to find the killer in 3 hours...or they all die. This leads to them all talking to the detective, Sheppard to try and solve what is going on and who killed the person in the bathroom. I don't want to give anything more away but I have to say this was a very intriguing novel, I found myself not wanting to put the book down when it came down to getting some other stuff done. I found myself immediately drawn to all the characters in the book, Mandy Specifically. The atmosphere in which the story takes place is so well written and in great detail that I felt as if I was right in that room with them. I very much enjoyed this one, I definitely recommend it.

Twisted and engrossing. This locked room mystery kept me guessing right up till the end. These characters are unique and keep you on the edge of your seat wondering who is really what they seem. The author constructed an intimate world that is wrapped up in a very satisfying conclusion.

I was drawn to this book based on the premise. A locked room. One body and a gaggle of suspects. That's a solid premise for a whodunnit.

For the first third of the book I kept guessing the identity of the murderer but the book quickly lost steam and the suspense suffered for it. There was a decent twist but the flash backs were clunky at best and the characters, even the Jerry Springer-wannabe were underdeveloped and generally speaking a one-dimensional bunch.

I give kudos for the interesting premise but with an ending that felt rushed, a lack of tension and a big reveal that was so far-fetched that it was ridiculous, this isn't a book I'd recommend for diehard fans of suspense.

WHAT did I just read?

The only thing better than a twisted story is an even twistier villain and this book has both….in spades! As soon as I started reading I instantly got that Clue meets Saw vibe and I was hooked. The second Saw…you know, the one where everyone is locked in a room and have to figure out their connections to survive. It’s one of my favorite movies and this book took me back as soon as I started reading. So good!

While the idea of locking 5 strangers and a dead body in a room and forcing them to beat the clock and solve the murder appeals to me in every possible sense, this book has so much more to it. I think all the players (this was totally a game so I’m referring to them as players instead of characters because it’s more fun) are the love-to-hate kind (Yes… even Headphones) and I thought that was such a bold and brilliant move. Even though I didn’t like any of the players in this game, I found I was still rooting for them. All of them, even Sheppard who is in my top 3 for people I hate in this book, somehow managed to make me wish for them to live more than I wanted them to die.

Now, even though I absolutely devoured this book, I’m not going to say that it was perfect. There were a few times that I wanted to throw it, I might have called everyone some less than lady-like names (several times) and I did find it a little on the predictable side. That being said, none of that made me enjoy this any less. Most books will bore me if I can figure it out before the big reveal I really felt like I was playing the game with everyone and I got that little thrill when my thoughts were justified. I could totally be a detective!

I think my biggest issue through this entire book was the ending. I won’ t go as far as saying that I thought the ending was bad…it wasn’t, but there was so much going on and so many different twists leading up to it that I think I was just expecting more. What more was I expecting? I’m honestly not sure. Maybe something that would really blow me away. I was a tad disappointed there but not so much that my opinion of the book changed.

With its super-fast pace, Guess Who is a complex and smart thriller that will make any mystery lover’s mind explode. If this is just the debut I can’t wait to see what Chris McGeorge comes out with next!

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Hanover Square Press for providing me with an e-copy of this book to read and provide my honest opinion.

A locked-room whodunit in the vein of the best classics. At first, the setup reminded me of the movie Saw: TV detective Morgan Sheppard wakes up in a hotel room with five people he's never met. They all have no memory of how they got there. A creepy guy with a horse's mask kindly informs them that one of them is a killer and Sheppard has 3 hours to figure out who. The story cheats a little in that you don't get all the clues from the beginning, but are all interspaced in between flashbacks. It also requires a healthy suspension of disbelief but, for a debut novel, it is fantastic. The suspense never let up and the red-herrings were pretty clever. I also may be biased because I love this kind of books, but I enjoyed every single turn.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Hanover Square Press!

This is a new to me author and I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book. It took me a bit to get into it, and found it to be a different sort of whodunit. 5 people are trapped in a room and one of them is a murderer. Morgan Sheppard is one of the 5 and is tasked to figure out who the killer is. It was a little confusing toward the middle half where it's switching back into the past. It was a good book, but to me a bit confusing with all the back and forth in the story.

Guess Who by Chris McGeorge was an entertaining read! Morgan Sheppard is a famous TV detective. He solved a murder when he was 11 years old and has given him quite the reputation as a sleuth. After a night with a beautiful woman he just met, he wakes up in an unfamiliar hotel room, handcuffed to a bed, in a room full of strangers and a dead body in the bathtub! What is going on? The murderer is one of the strangers in the room with him and he must figure out who before the hotel explodes. This is a locked room mystery and at first I had a hard time keeping track of the other characters in the room with Morgan. However, this mystery is well worth your time. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

With such an original plot, I really wanted to like this book more. The characters just weren’t fleshed out enough and either lacked emotion or were over the top. Most were unlikable. The first half of the book was a fast paced read. At the halfway point it bogged down a bit with a lengthy back story. The ending picks up again and with the many twists it does end up being a good debut.

I was in the mood for a light-hearted puzzle mystery book and this recently published “locked room” mystery seemed to fit the bill. A TV host detective with secrets in his past wakes up handcuffed in a hotel room and tasked with figuring out which of the five other kidnapped people in the room murdered the corpse in the bathroom. If he doesn’t solve the murder in three hours, his mysterious captor seen only on a TV screen threatens to blow up the whole building. I read the book all in one day and found myself skimming some parts because those parts seemed to be slowing down the action. The book flashes back and forth between different points in time and there is a reveal at the end that tells you in detail about how everything was set up. I should have picked up on more of the clues along the way. If you are a cozy mystery lover, this book is probably too dark for you, but I think there is a specific audience that would really like it.

Thanks to NetGalley, Harlequin-Hanover Square Press, and the author Chris McGeorge for an electronic review copy.

Dwie gwiazdki.
