I really enjoyed this book. I loved the touch of paranormal, the concept, plot and characters! A real winner that was quirky, funny, and sweet.
Veterinarian Grayce tries to hide her special abilities when she meets fire investigator Davis and gets pulled into the solving of an arson case.
The story has it all - cool alpha male, mysterious veterinarian, cute animals, case to solve, funky sidekicks. Thus, the read started out very nice and exciting, but soon began to fall apart. When Grayce acupunctured the fifth pet I was ready to poke my own dog with needles.
Unfortunately the alpha male turns out to be a one-dimensional controlling whiner. The female protagonist is pre-occupied with finding her inner calm. The cute animals behave as if they are the ones with the special abilities. The bad guy is revealed pretty early (intentionally?) which makes the more obvious bad guy not scary at all, even though he is supposed to be scary (or not?). The sidekicks are your typical run-of-the-mill gay friend and a not very well fleshed out street kid. So – what’s left? A romance that doesn’t feel romantic, a couple of awkward intimate scenes, and an Epilogue that is a teaser for the next book in the series.
This book had a lot of potential, it did not work for me, though.
*** I received this book from NetGalley ***
This is your firefighter meets irresistible veterinarian and what's even better is that this handsome firefighter has a poodle named Mitzi who approves of the lady.
I enjoyed reading this book because of the hunt for the traitor in the fire department and also the charm and spark between Davis and Grayce. It was an afternoon well spent. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I'd definitely recommend it to someone who loves reading romance novels, it's fast paced, electric and just so we are clear- everyone needs a James in their life!
