I can’t think of a better devotional for someone who wants to review the basics of the faith than this one. Unblinded Faith is written in a warm, friendly voice. The author tells plenty of personal stories, which draws you in. I can see a new Christian or someone who didn’t grow up in the church getting a lot out of this book, because it clearly explains Bible truths in a welcoming way.
She uses colorful illustrations from everyday life as lead-ins for biblical beliefs. For example, she tells a story about refinishing old chairs and other furniture for her home. Then she says, “I’m reminded that God is about the business of redeeming our lives for His purposes. Even if someone else might consider us worthless. Even if we feel like nothing but a throwaway. God is our great Rescuer.”
I like her girlfriend-like tone and fun stories. Each devotion is brief and easy to digest. It contains a scripture reference for further reading, a written prayer, and a reflection question. Great for busy women who don’t have a lot of time on their hands, but want to learn more about God’s Word.
I received a complimentary copy of Unblinded Faith from Netgalley.
Unblinded Faith by Elisa Pulliam is a 90 day devotional that challenges readers to cling to God's Word. God's Word is full of promises that give us hope and strengthen our faith. Ms Pulliam has written a call to go back and absorb God's Word and be strengthened as a result. I highly recommend this devotional. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
If you’re looking for a book to pull you deeper in your relationship with Christ, this is an excellent choice. Spending time in my Bible each day is important to me, but it doesn’t always get the priority in my life that I desire. Having a book like Elisa’s helps pull me into Scripture and brings out truth that I could easily miss. “Reading the Word isn’t becoming more knowledgeable,” she says, “but rather being more equipped.”
You’ll get the most out of this book by doing the work. You could quickly skim each chapter and glean good truth. BUT if you read the corresponding Scripture and respond to her journal prompts, this book will change your life. This book is meant to be done in daily chapter chunks, one day at a time. Elisa has written 90 days of devotionals, each one with a key verse, several pages of thoughts from Elisa, a Scripture to read, a prayer of response and journaling questions to reflect on. (I used a kindle version of the book, but I would prefer a print version. It’s easier to keep track of progress and to mark).
Perhaps my favorite thing about this devotional book is the Elisa’s tone. The journey of having an unblinded faith is something she’s living alongside the reader. She is real and genuine, writing from a place of courage and passion. This is my first brush with her writing and I am hooked! She says, “We may not be privy to God’s redemptive work in our story, but that doesn’t mean He’s stopped accomplishing His purposes for His glory.” This book has helped my faith become more deeply rooted. Elisa has written words that point me toward Jesus, making His Word come alive in a new and fresh way.
*I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I love devotionals and when I saw this pretty cover, I really wanted to read it. But it's not just pretty on the outside. I loved the encouragement on every page. It gives you hope as well as something to ponder during the day.
Each of the 90 devotionals is short and quick to read, but there are questions for personal reflections and some Bible references to go deeper at the end of each devotional. Each chapter focuses on one verse. They are wonderful reminders of how we can trust God and helps you not to forget his promises. They are often illustrated by short anecdotes from the author's personal experiences. Even if you're really busy and you don't have much time for your quiet time, you'll always have time for one of these short chapters.
If you like devotionals or you are looking for one to start with, I'm sure that you'll like it. I enjoyed it very much. It would also make a great gift for your girlfriends. Very much recommended.
I really enjoyed Unblinded Faith: 90 Days of Believing God’s Word. There was a nice balance of the author's life and experiences (not too much, which I've found to be a problem with one or two other devotionals I've read). The sections (days) and their corresponding Bible readings are a good length--not too overwhelming for this busy mom. There are also prayers (respond) and questions (reflect) with each day.
A devotional that strengthens and renews your faith. Easy to read devotions that are packed with truth. The scripture reading at the end is a great way to dig deeper and really study Gods word. I have gained so much from this study! Thank you Elisa for allowing me to read an advance digital copy.
I suffered from depression and anxiety most of my life so having faith in stressful situations is a hard thing for me. However, this book helped me learn to face things calmly and strengthen my faith.
Life gets us down. It makes us feel uneasy or unsure at times/. This devotional invites us to test the Word. Of course, not in a negative way but to hold it as true. To believe it and to abide by it.l There will days when the battle feels too great. This devotional will be your help, your fuel, your gift from God to keep an unblinded Faith.
Unblinded Faith is a wonderful 90 day devotional book that you will want to read and re-read over and over again. It is a great way to start the day with in the Word and with the Lord. This book is packed with Scripture, personal testimonies/stories, and gives space to reflect and respond. Elisa Pulliam speaks with such practical wisdom that both encourages and challenges you. It convicts and encourages and uplifts and trains.
Elisa desires for her readers to be transformed into the women God has designed them to be. The only way we can accomplish this transformation is if we are “steeped in the Word” as she puts it. This is like a tea bag that is steeped in hot water, which causes the tea leaves to release their flavor and permeate the water. As we spend time in His presence and read His Word, we become all that we are meant to be and God permeates our life.
These are some of my favorite quotes:
Day 11 " By pulling back from the social connections that simply drain our souls.....we gain emotional and physical margin space to see and respond to the opportunities right in front of us" Rather than praying and 'searching' on our own, just be at peace and NOTICE whats already there in front of ya!
"Choosing to be still before God is about refusing to fuss when life spins out of control."
"When we choose to live in a way that pleases God, seeking to be humble and holy, and to love deeply, we'll be positioned to fulfill the goal of living a quiet life, minding our own business, and working with our hands for the glory of God."
Unblinded Faith, is a devotional that will challenge the thinking of someone who is a new believer in Christ as well as someone who has been a believer for a long time. I highly recommend it. Thank you Elisa for allowing me to read an advance digital copy.
Sometimes we get skewed ideas about God and what He is doing in our lives. Pulliam reminds us that Satan blinds the eyes of those who don't believe and tries to make the rest of us struggle. It is sometimes hard to believe the Word and the promises it declares in the face of circumstances.
Pulliam helps readers face a number of issues concerning believing the Word. She helps us clarify our beliefs about the character of God and about what He may be doing. Maybe we don't think God loves us because we don't have the earthly possessions others have. Maybe we just cannot see how God could possibly bring any good out of what is happening to us.
Pulliam believes we desperately need the Word of God when we face the hard parts of life. Each devotion includes a verse or two from the Bible, an encouraging devotion, a Scripture passage to read, a written prayer of response, and a question or two for reflection. Readers can also find supplementary free materials, like a companion journal, at www.unblindedfaith.com. Also at that site is a link to intensive online courses she offers.
Pulliam is a life coach and it shows in this book. Her devotions are well written, are encouraging and enlightening. I appreciate her emphasis on the truth of the Word in correcting our wrong thinking about God and His actions. There are good devotions on having a right view of God, such as on God's love and acceptance. There are good devotions on thee life of the believer, such as on suffering well, trusting God, having His heart, and much more. One of my favorite devotions was about our worth, that it is from God alone and not from focusing on self-esteem.
I recommend this book to Christians who desire to be challenged in their beliefs about God, the Bible and living the Christian life. You'll get good teaching and encouragement based on biblical truths.
Food for thought:
“May I long for Your ways more than mine.” (Loc 857/1917)
“Trusting in the Lord isn't about changing the outcome. It's about learning to trust God with the outcome, no matter what.” (Loc 1119/1917)
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Confession: I am a bit of a devotional junkie. I love starting out my day with an encouraging or inspiring devotional, and I sometimes read more than 1 day's worth per day. So, I was excited to have the opportunity to read and review "Unblinded Faith" by Elisa Pulliam. This book contains 90 days worth of devotions, and each day includes the devotion, scripture, a prayer, and reflection questions for journaling. Some of the themes from the daily devotions included devoting time to prayer and to be in the Word, not worrying, pursuing God with anything and everything, spiritual gifts, and focusing more on Jesus and less on ourselves (among many other worthy topics). If you are like me, and love starting your day with a devotional, I recommend reading this book!
Powerful, faith building and just absolutely amazing is a few ways to describe this book. It talks about talking God as His word and actually believing it. Having blind faith is so freeing because it allows you to rest in knowing God will take care of you. This is a great devotional.
I received an advanced copy of this devotional and am loving it. It is one I will keep close by and go through again and again because it is short, practical, and creates growth.
In this 90 day devotional Elisa Pulliam uses stories to awaken your thoughts to practical things in life. I like the process she lays out for you to walk through with sharing a scripture then a response and finishing with a reflective question.
Unblinded Faith is easy to read but takes you into deep thought. Oh to walk with eyes wide open. I will be sharing it with friends as I think it will be a great asset to growing in your walk with Jesus.
A devotional that touches the heart and gives hope and encouragement. Great to start the day with this devotional. I read through the whole book and enjoyed every page. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my personal honest opinion. No review was required.
I really enjoyed this devotional.
This book is a 90 -day devotional that has devotions on topics of God's grace, love, and kindness to name a few. If you enjoy daily devotionals, this is the book for you!
Unblinded Faith is a well written devotional. This devotional includes 90 days of scripture and thoughts to consider. I highly recommend this book.
Unblinded Faith has been the thing my heart has needed. Some days are a complete struggle to believe God's word, but spending a little bit of time each morning in the word and processing the questions that Pulliam poses has been incredibly life-giving.
This devotional will take you back to the basics of faith and remind you of the true hope that is yours for the taking.
