Thanks for the ARC NET GALLEY
Fait, football, and personal freedom. Great inspirational story for fans of life and not just football or sports!!
A scrawny college student goes into the newspaper office to become a writer, after writing for a while, he's offered the sports editor position. This leads him to walk-on football tryouts where he decides to try out along with those who have been playing their entire youth. What will become of this scrawny journalist who tries out for one of the best college football teams as a walk on? Ben Malcolmson writes his story in Walk On about this very experience. He brings together the struggle of being a journalist, the exhaustion of walk on try outs, the grueling fight on his road to recovery after an injury, and his determination to overcome obstacles and celebrate his accomplishments. Untwined into each chapter is a little scripture and biblical lessons he's learned throughout his journey. This book attracted my attention because of the idea of someone waking onto a team and making it, overcoming the odds of not being good enough. It is an idea I personally find myself battling every day in my own journey and I thought this book would help me with my mindset. It has helped build my defenses for sure! Walk On by Ben Malcolmson was provided complimentary for an honest review through NetGalley. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book and accept the challenge to do the things everyone else says is crazy. I rate this book 5-stars because of its message, ease of reading, and the ability to drag me through various emotions all in the pages between the covers.
I am grateful to netgalley.com and WaterBrook & Multnomah for a review copy of this book. I throughly enjoyed this book, there was so much in it which i could relate to. The theme of perseverance even when things are tough spoke to me.
It was an amazing journey that Ben went on and that God was preparing him for. The short sharp chapters allowed for an easy read and the whole book took maybe three hours to read. This book would be good for the sports fan Christian and Non Christian alike because it tells that one story we all dream of, getting to play for our team, to suit up.
The most disappointing aspect of the book were the reflections at the end of each chapter too often they focused on what we can do rather than on what God is doing. Overall a great book would recommend to any sports fan.
