No suburban mom stomping around Starbucks in her Sorel boots is safe from the snark in Weisberger’s hilarious sequel to The Devil Wears Prada! Emily Charlton is bitchier than ever as she descends on Greenwich, CT to rescue the image of her latest famous client. I laughed out loud at the lengths rich people go to stay thin (vodka-soaked tampons, anyone?) and outdo one another. The celebrity & fashion name drops along with the unexpected plot twists made this quick read that was hard to put Dow. I’ll be recommending for the beach this summer! ***I read the ARC courtesy of Netgalley.***

Everyone’s favorite ex-assistant Emily Charlton is back and just as sassy and confident as ever!!

If any character deserved their own book, Emily would be among the top on my list! This book is positively delightful, and introduces two new co-leading ladies who are the perfect complement to Emily. Lauren Weisberger sure knows how to write a trendy book with surprisingly deep social commentary on the insecurity underlying all of the glitz, glamour, and money without being overly critical of anyone who subscribes to that lifestyle. I absolutely had a blast reading this book, and I think other readers—whether new to Weisberger or long-time fans—will feel the same way!

Emily has found her way into a career that perfectly capitalizes on her mix of taste, elegance, and ball-busting working as an image consultant to celebrities. Emily can handle anything from a sex scandal to a racist comment with ease, and she manages it all with typical Emily charm. However, Emily is slowly losing clients to a young up-and-comer who is more in touch with social media than she is. Emily knows that everyone always wants someone younger and trendier, but she is shocked when even a long-standing client turns away from her!

Karolina is an ex-model who ruled the Victoria’ Secret runway (and the cover of Runway itself) for years, all while marrying a U.S. Senator and becoming a mother to his 4-year old son. However, when Karolina is arrested for a DUI with children in the car, she needs help and fast! Karolina was not drunk, but despite her pleading for a breathalyzer, the police locked her up and the press knew all the sordid details by morning. Karolina finds herself on the outs with her friends, her husband, and the media, and she needs to understand what is happening fast!

Miriam is a high-powered, Harvard-trained attorney who up-and-quit her job as a Partner in one of NYC’s most prestigious firms to move to Greenwich, CT with her husband and kids. Miriam tries to convince herself this is what she wants. But if that is true, why has she not had sex with her husband in months? And why has she gained twenty pounds? Miriam doesn’t know if they made the right decision after all, but sometimes talking to those you love can be harder than being Miranda Priestley’s junior assistant!

Emily, Miriam, and Karolina find themselves banished to Greenwich at the same time, and they may be the exact combination of people needed to take on the threats to all of their lives! With a lululemon-clad mom-squad, and secret sex toy parties in glittering Greenwich mansions, Emily, Karolina, and Miriam will find a way to help one another like no one but a former assistant of Miranda Priestley could!

This book was exactly what I needed at just the right time! Emily is a wonderful character, and it is so great to see a story from her perspective. Emily is someone who is tough as nails, but is kinder and more caring than she seems. It was a treat to see Lauren explore that in her narrative. And Emily sure can carry a story!!!

I loved the relationship between the three women. They each have a quality that balances the others, and keeps them in check. And even better, they each completely accept one another for who they are, despite their differences. They aren’t afraid to tell each other the tough things they need to hear. They are all struggling with their own lives, and yet they support each other.

This is a total women empowerment book, and I am so excited for it to debut. I know it will fill the hearts and minds of Devil Wears Prada fans, as well as to readers that are new to Weisberger’s writing.

Many thanks to Simon & Schuster, Lauren Weisberger, and to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a quick and fun read! This is my first book by Lauren Weisberger and it did not disappoint. I liked that there were three perspectives of being a housewife. I also enjoyed each woman's perspective and journey. I liked how each character provided support for one another throughout. The overall story was funny and engaging. I received this ARC from the publisher Simon &Schuster through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

The Devil Wears Prada will always be one of my favorite books ever, and Lauren Weisberger is one of my favorite authors of all time. As soon as I heard about When Life Gives You Lululemons, I knew that I had to read it, and was thrilled when I received it as an advanced reader copy! It was definitely fun, snarky, and delightful. The characters were hysterical and I was sucked into reading about their “Real Housewives” style of living. From plastic surgeries on every.single.body.part to splurges on name brand clothing, cars, and vacations; from political scandal and personal defamation to rock solid and devoted friendships; these women led very large lives. I feel like WLGYL was missing the tone and banter that the first two books had but I still highly recommend this one, too. It was upbeat and funny, and very engaging. Perfect for a light and refreshing “chick lit” read!

I feel like I should bow my head in shame. I've never read any of the Devil Wears Prada books. But I have watched the movie more times than I can count, and can recite chunks of dialog. Even though I missed out on the first two books of the series, I LOVED When Life Gives You Lululemons. I was hooked from the very first page snarky page until the last. I couldn't put the book down. I loved the characters - some, like Miriam, were so relatable, and others, like Emily, were so outrageous. Combined they were the perfect mix for an amazing read.

I enjoyed When Life Gives you Lululemons, and I read it very quickly. I felt that the three main characters were engaging and I was rooting for all of them. I liked this book better than all of the author's previous books, maybe because I could relate to the character of Miriam more than characters in previous books. I liked the quick pace of the story, the organization of the chapters with witty character remarks as chapter titles, and the relationship between the three women. Some things that stuck out to me were a few inconsistencies on names and ages. For instance, Olivia Belle was first called Olive. The girl in the backstory is first called Molly Wells and then Heather Malloy. Miriam said her kids were different ages at different points in the story. The most confusing inconsistency to me was the length of the marriage of Karolina and Graham. She mentions ten years, their eleventh anniversary, and being in Harry's life for eight years. She also said he was four when they got married, and is twelve now. This was confusing. One plot point about Graham was the same as another book I just read, The Wife Between Us. I was surprised to read about two characters getting secret medical procedures in back-to-back books! I didn't love all of the focus on appearance and weight in particular. It was a bit off-putting when I read that Miriam was a size ten, because as I read the author's description of Miriam I was picturing a larger woman. I felt like I wanted a few more scenes with Karolina and Harry to show their close relationship. I wondered how it went at his swim meet. I also wanted to know if Miriam crawled out of bed to pack up and hide her body paints and canvas when she and her husband did not use them. Overall I was engaged in the story and entertained by the characters. I could picture this book as a fun movie, especially with a great cast.

This book will very likely never be considered mandatory reading for an English Literature class, but it certainly qualifies as a fun read perfect for the beach or a rainy afternoon. I started it in the morning, took a break to get some errands done, then sat down and finished reading by dinner time.

Emily, Miriam and Karolina were a little too stereotyped as the successful career woman, the stay at home mom and the rich wife; but overall pretty well-developed characters who demonstrated both strength and insecurity – pretty much like all of us. You really have to love Emily for always speaking the truth, sometimes too bluntly and usually with lots of profanity.

The story moved along at a nice pace with each woman facing their own crisis; failing business, adjustment to stay at home mom and the explosion of a marriage. They come together to help Karolina when she is arrested for DUI with her son in the car. While the ending was predictably happy it was okay because sometimes you just want to read a book that makes you feel good and doesn’t make you think too hard.

When Life Gives You Lululemons is the perfect book with a nice blend of all the feels. It is packed with drama, humor and love. I found myself laughing out loud and tearing up. It is a nice escape from everyday life with a glimpse of what life would be like in Greenwich, CT.
This is my first book to read by Laura Weisberger. I recommend reading The Devil Wears Prada to get a feel for some of the characters. I will definitely be reading more books by Weisberger.

I was so excited about this book! Loved Devil wears Prada although I wasn’t loving “Revenge Wears Prada”
This was much much better. I’ve been reading a lot of heavy books and it was like a breath of fresh air reading this book. The book was just fun! Had a Big little Lies undertone but didn’t have all the drama to go with it and it stayed focus on the plot points (Miriam’s life, Emily’s career and Klarolina fight)
I adore Emily and always have. Miriam was a typical fish out of water housewife’s but had just the perfect amount of fire to see how she was prior to marriage and kids
There is even an appearance by Ms. Miranda Priestly herself!
Quick, fun and enjoyable read! Loved it!

Although I read The Devil Wears Prada and enjoyed it immensely, I did not read book #2 in this series. I was able, however, to get right into this hilarious novel which was pure escapism. The dialog is snappy and there are plenty of references to popular culture. At an extremely busy time in my life, I was able to put this book down (even when I didn't want to!) and pick it back up and get right back into the story.

Who wouldn't want to return to the world of Miranda Priestly? I was so happy to get a copy of Lauren Weisberger's new book. Emily is back, but she's growing older and has a new career as an image consultant and is finding out how it feels to have the younger, hotter woman nipping up her heels to steal clients.

Emily has a hot husband, but he's starting to make rumblings about having a baby - which is NOT on Emily's to do list. So she jumps at the chance to go visit her old friend, Miriam - a former hot shot lawyer turned schlumpy stay at home mom.

Miriam has a supermodel friend who has been arrested for DUI, and she and Emily team up to help Karolina regain her reputation and her stepson. What a scumbag her husband was. But the only part of the story that bugged me was that Miranda had to step in to save the day - like a lawyer and a professional image consultant couldn't do the jobs - you know, the ones they make a living at! But it wouldn't be right if Miranda didn't have all the answers, that's why we all loved her so much in the original.

This was a fun read - so nice to catch up with some favorite characters.

I love all of Lauren Weisberger's books. I find her snarky and funny, her writing is so descriptive and engaging, and this book followed the pattern that I love from her well.

The characters were flawed and real, while still living an aspirational lifestyle that inspired a sense of wonder and intrigue into their world. I loved that Emily struggled to adapt to the growing world of social media. I felt for the women and their messy relationships. I was laughing out loud often, and my heart hurt in solidarity for situations characters faced.

This book is fierce and funny, and would make the perfect beach or pool read this summer.

“When life gives you Lululemons” by Lauren Weisberger is part of “The Devil Wears Prada” series, but I had no trouble following it without having read any of the previous books. The book details the trials of living high-profile lives while trying to keep sanity and sense of humor.
2018 is not starting out on a good note for friends Emily, Karolina, and Miriam. Emily works in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars; in reality, she cleans up after them and tries to keep their troubles secret. Recently, however, she has lost a few clients. Miriam moved to Greenwich to spend with her children, but being a stay-at-home mom in a wealthy town filled with joggers in Lululemon leggings with elaborate mesh cutouts that look both cool and extremely cold is more difficult than her stressful legal career. Karolina is an A-list former super model who now faces a different kind of scrutiny as the wife of a United States senator who plans to run for president.
The book follows each of the three as they support each other and navigate upscale suburbia fraught with drama, trauma, and social media. Their over-the-top suburban lives are filled with truths and lies simmering just below the dazzling surface, and nothing is exactly as it appears.
I received a copy of “When Life Gives You Lululemons” from Lauren Weisberger, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley. It was light-hearted fun and moves quickly. It is an entertaining book, but be careful, you might just laugh out loud as you read.

Lauren Weisberger has done it again! Anyone who is a fan of the Devil Wears Prada series will enjoy this next installment! This particular book focuses on Emily, After leaving her career at Runway she became an image consultant. If you are a celebrity or have enough money and a problem then Emily can help you fix it. She loves the hustle and hubbub of the city. So when Karolina Hartwell, retired supermodel and wife of a politician finds herself needing an image consultant Emily is her girl. The problem is that Karolina lives in Greenwich where the lawns are manicures and the moms wear yoga pants. This book has some funny and surprising parts! I can't recommend it enough! I'm so glad we got more Emily!!!

What a fun read!

The continuing story of Emily (The Devil Wears Prada) after leaving Runway and Miranda Priestly (although spoiler alert: Miranda does make some brief appearances) finds Emily married and living in LA. With her new business starting to fall apart, she visits her friend, Miriam, in Greenwich, Ct. and steps in to help former supermodel Karolina who has been arrested on trumped up DUI charges and whose politically ambitious husband has dumped her.

Emily is initiated into Greenwich society with all its first world problems. Maintaining her caustic, witty self, she becomes close with Miriam and Karolina and even closer with her husband, Miles.

A humorous jaunt, this is a quick read that makes a great escape from the literary world of psychological thrillers.

Let me start by saying I absolutely LOVE The Devil Wears Prada. It's one of my all time favorites. When I'm having a stressful time at work, I reread that book to make myself feel better. So Weisberger had a lot to live up to, especially since Revenge Wears Prada was such a huge disappointment for me. But I still HAD to read this one, especially since the main character in the book is Emily! You don't have to have read TDWP or RWP in order to enjoy this one, but I definitely think it will appeal more to those that have read them. Miranda Priestly does make an appearance!

I am happy to say it was a very strong addition to TDWP series, as it was well written, witty, snarky and everything you'd expect from a follow up novel. I was immediately hooked, could NOT put it down, raced through it in just a few days. I loved the new characters Karolina and Miriam, but especially loved learning more about Emily! I related so well to her! I was thrilled with everything about the book....until the ending. I feel like Emily had a pretty substantial character change at the end that just seemed inconsistent to me and a little too fast--all within the final 10% of the book. A lot of my reasoning may just be my personal views, but it still left me with a bad taste in my mouth at the end.

Overall--a solid 3.5 stars for this one! I still highly recommend adding it to your summer reading list!

When Life Gives You Lululemons is a great continuation of Emily’s story after Runway and Miranda Priestly. I enjoyed this so much better than book two in this series. Emily is as snarky and rude as ever and her life professional life is falling apart. Then there is Karolina, a supermodel married to a senator. Karolina gets arrested and charged with a DUI that seems super fishy. All aspects of her life are falling apart. Then there is Miriam, a friend to both of them. She gave up her high-stress job in the city to head to the suburbs with her husband and three children. Miriam thinks her husband might be having an affair. Karolina’s husband is having a very public affair and Emily has a husband that travels a ton and Emily likes to flirt. Emily helps celebrities with their images trying to get them to conduct themselves in certain ways and to help with managing their social media. The entire time I was reading this I could totally see Emily Blunt reprising her movie roll.

I cared for the three main characters and hoped that everything worked out for all of them. I couldn’t stand the women they encountered. I’m sure there are a lot of women like that in the world. And I liked the storyline. I really felt for Karolina. Even though she is a supermodel and should have some ease in front of crowds, she was klutzy and very downhome. She just wants to be a Mom. If you liked The Devil Wears Prada, you will enjoy this book.

An enjoyable read from Lauren Weisberger! Weisberger combines heavy subject matter with a lot of humor which makes this a light and enjoyable story. The characters thoughts and feelings are relatable as they navigate through some sticky situations.

This was trash. No values, no virtue, no respect for marriage, no good characters. Its disdain for suburbian life and motherhood isnt funny at all. The depiction of rich suburbian families and the crass extramarital sex, private parties and swinging that goes on is something you can't unsee. Emily didnt seem like she was that good at her job. Her PR pitches were blah and yet she kept name dropping as examples of how supposedly well she managed real life celebrities. Even her grand plan of helping Karolina was terrible- she had no desire to fight and pursue truth or justice and surprisingly, neither did the lawyer Miriam. In the end, neither one really helped their friend Karolina because it was someone else who no one cares about unless you read "The devil wears prada". If you read that book (I didnt) you may find this sequel more interesting than I did. As a stand alone, its the worst Ive read in a long time. Poor storyline, maybe a handful of funny witty dialogues, with characters I wouldnt even want to get to know in books or real life. I regret picking it up.

Would an aspiring presidential candidate set up his wife for a crime just to get rid of her, then marry his mistress? Nah, he wouldn’t do that – or would he?

When Life Gives You Lululemons, due out June 5, 2018, is the latest novel by Lauren Weisberger, author of the bestselling The Devil Wears Prada.
Curl up with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and read this sad, yet funny book that you won't be able to put down.

Emily Charlton has left Miranda Priestly, and launched her own hugely successful image consulting business. That business is now suffering from competition by a younger social-media-savvy consultant who is stealing her clients. Enter former supermodel, Karolina Hartwell, married to a New York senator with his eye on the presidency.

Then there is Miriam, mutual friend of Emily and Karolina. Miriam is a high-powered attorney who has decided to take time off to raise her children, and finds herself stuck in the shallow company of uber-wealthy yet competitive stay-at-home moms.

Miriam needs intellectual stimulation. Emily needs business. These three women need each other, and while Emily manages Karolina’s image, Miriam attacks her legal affairs. This very serious, yet often hilarious tale explores the frustration of professional women who take time off from work to raise their children, and the backbiting competitive environment of bored, uneducated, wives of wealthy men.

Most importantly, however, When Life Gives You Lululemons is a commentary on the double standard we Americans set for our politicians. Even though our divorce rate is above 50%, we demand a faithful, never-divorced candidate for elected leadership positions – well, until 2016 we did. Has it really gotten to the point that, in order to have a divorce approved by constituents, a candidate must collude with police, then stoop to setting up the spouse as a criminal?

Watch for When Life Gives You Lululemons in June. You will laugh, cry, be angry, and laugh some more.

What Makes This Book Reviewer Grumpy?

- Incorrect word usage – for example, using “brought” when “took” should have been used, “spoonfuls” should be “spoonsful”, “she’s got” should be “she has”;
- multiple split-infinitives;
- misplacement of the word “only” within sentences;
- beginning sentences with conjunctions;
- having the narrator say “exact same” – the phrase is redundant.
