I couldn’t wait to read this book. The title alone sucked me right in. I wasn’t disappointed. I felt connected to the characters and was rooting for them the whole book. Fun, easy read that makes it perfect for the beach. I highly recommend for a light chick lit book. Loved it.
Great read. Light, funny, and hard to put down. I loved the devil wears Prada and had to read this one; because of that love. I'm so glad I did! This book really was a quick to get through, because you wanted to read more about the characters, since the author had them so realistic and developed. Don't miss out on this book'
This was absolutely fantastic and I stand by that, even though I started explaining one of the major subplots to a male friend who's into action movies and he kind of looked at me like "what on earth are you on?" Women's fiction, it's great.
This was really sweet, quite funny, and had a great plot to keep the story moving (although I really I would have even enjoyed just reading about their maniacal lives because Weisberger can make anything fun.) I appreciated the female comraderie, though I was very concerned about the amount of vaginal plastic surgery that was spoken of frequently.
The references to DEVIL WEARS PRADA were interspersed quite well--the author knows it's been 15 years and that we don't remember every detail, but she's aged up the characters respectively and has thrown in some Easter eggs for those of us who remember.
Thanks, Simon & Schuster, for the e-galley! I think it's time for me to catch up on all the Weisberger books I have yet to read.
5 stars!!! When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger was such an enjoyable read!!! I really enjoyed the storyline - it drew me in enough to not want to put the (E)book down, but also was not too heavy to be taxing - sometimes you just want a good, enjoyable read when life is hectic and this fit the bill. I especially loved seeing Emily Charlton, Miranda's assistant for The Devil Wears Prada - it felt like seeing an old friend again!!!
Many thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.
This book, while it has some characters from The Devil Wears Prada, is wholly different. Emily has grown up, married (I wish there had been more back story on that relationship!) and is a powerful image consultant to the rich and famous. Her dynamic with old friends, and new ones were fascinating and she is STILL a force to be reckoned with. Karolina's character was great as well, as she tried hard to fix her life after her dream was shattered. Overall, if you enjoyed Emily from The Devil Wears Prada (if you didn't who even are you!) I'd recommend it just for that information. It was a fun read!
I loved The Devil Wears Prada - both the book and the movie. I wasn't sure what to expect from this, hoping I would not be disappointed. When Life Gives You Lululemons was fresh, funny, and oh, so current. It had me laughing aloud and searching the internet to check out things I had never heard of. (The lives portrayed in Greenwich, Connecticut are definitely not the life I am living!) Throughout the book, I pictured Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, which made the read even more enjoyable. I will share When Life Gives You Lululemons with friends and family and keep my fingers crossed that it is made into a movie.
Thank you to Netgalley for a chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book for its quick, light plot. I personally don’t think it’s one of the author’s best and I think it should have been a standalone book rather than related to the author’s most famous novel, the Devil Wears Prada.
All in all, I did still enjoy the book and i would recommend for a light, fun beach read.
Another great addition to the Devil Wears Prada series! I love these characters (both old and new) and I love that Lauren Weisberger has allowed them to grow into adults with adult problems and adult issues, rather than sticking to the 20-something sagas of old-school chick lit. It's nice to have characters that grow with you!
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book, and felt like the characters were friends. I would love to see this played out on the big screen like the original! Can't wait to see what happens next!!
Will post on or about May 28, 2018.
4.5/5 stars
When Life Gives You Lululemons is Chick Lit. It is a Devil Wears Prada novel. This is a charming book that will make you laugh and smile. I really liked it!
I have read all of Lauren Weisberger's previous books. So I was excited to see that she had a new book coming out. I absolutely love the title of this book. And it is actually relevant to the story.
I think that many people will wonder whether this book can be read as a standalone. I'd say yes and no. The story definitely stands on its own. And readers will be able to follow it without knowing anything about the previous books. However, IMO I think that it is important to know the basic story of The Devil Wears Prada. Especially what Emily's job was and who Miranda Priestley is (as these things are referenced a lot in this book).
The book is divided into two parts and features funny chapter titles. The story mostly takes place in Greenwich, Connecticut. There are three third person narrators: Emily, Miriam and Karolina.
The cross-over character from The Devil Wears Prada is Emily. She was Miranda Priestly’s assistant at Runway magazine. Now she is married to Miles and working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars.
Miriam is Emily's friend. She is married to Paul. She was a partner at a law firm, but is now a stay at home mom in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Karolina is Miriam's friend. She was a supermodel and is now married to a Senator.
Something happens in Karolina's life and she needs help. This is the main focus of the book.
I really loved all three of these women. They were all interesting. And I loved that their personalities were so different. I never mixed up their POVs, which was very refreshing.
I really enjoyed this book. The story was very funny. Especially the trio of women together. It was fantastic. There is some romance, although it's not the focus of the story.
Overall, this was such an enjoyable read! If you love Chick Lit and are looking for something fun and funny this is a great read. I loved it!
Thanks for the Advanced Copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
I LOVED the Devil Wears Prada and was so excited to read When Life Gives You Lululemons, and while it was good and I enjoyed reading it, I was hoping for more.
Some of the suburban CT mom jokes and scenes were hilarious. I enjoyed the 3 ladies and how they each had their own sub plots and how it all came together. I wish there had been a little more backstory on Emily and how she went from her Runway Days to now, but overall I enjoyed the book and it will be a great summer beach read!

Am I a horrible person to say I really don’t remember Emily all that much from The Devil Wears Prada? Its been like a million years since it first came out! While reading this, I just kept remembering of Emily’s line from the movie version where she says she’s one good stomach flu from being a size zero. Oh – those were the days… Seriously – this is a terrific summer read, everyone will have a copy poolside and its chick-lit stuff at its finest.
What I loved: Paul – he’s my favorite character. Not only does my college get a shout out (Fork’s Up SunDevils!), but his midlife crisis is only a diminished sex drive and a sporty new car purchase. He’s a fricken millionaire now, he deserves a flashy, impractical car. And what he does for Miriam towards the end – mind blown and the gauntlet has been thrown towards all of the real-life hubs out there to top it. I am so envious…
What I didn’t love: Not enough Miranda Priestly. She is just not in enough scenes! Seriously – she is screaming for a prequel of her rise to the top. I would gobble that one up in a fluffy heartbeat. I would have loved a little more block back on the Senator but maybe somethings are better left unwritten.
What I learned: How you can go from a stylist to the kinda-stars to an all out image consultant.
Overall Grade: B

Remember The Devil Wears Prada? I have to admit that while I do remember the movie (with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway) I never read the book. Once I looked up the year it was published, I understood why: in 2006 I had a baby, graduated from medical school, and started my internship. Suffice it to say, I wasn’t reading much for pleasure at the time.
Several of the characters from The Devil Wears Prada return in Lauren Weisberger’s latest novel, When Life Gives You LuLuLemons. Fantastic title, right? I jumped at the chance to review this when I saw it on Netgalley. Instead of following a small-town girl fresh out of college trying to make it in the big city, this story follows three mid-thirties women who’ve already “made it” and are now trying to figure out what comes next.
The novel is told from three points of view: Emily Charlton, a successful image consultant, who has no intention of sacrificing herself to motherhood; Miriam, married mom of three who’s recently left her law practice to be a stay-at-home mom in an uber-wealthy suburb of NYC; Karolina, former supermodel now married to newly-elected senator from New York. The story loosely follows the events after Karolina is falsely arrested for a DUI and Miriam, her dear friend, suggests they hire Emily to revamp Karolina’s image. I say “loosely” because the plot seems constructed to allow the women to romp from hilarious situation to hilarious situation, skewering the lifestyle of Super Rich Suburbanites and poking fun at the ridiculous lives of these elite, wealthy mothers who have way too much time and money on their hands.
There’s lots of fabulous parties, each one more over-the-top than the last, plenty of philandering husbands (and wives), a great deal of discussion of plastic surgery in places I never even wanted to know about, and some happy, feel-good moments. I enjoyed hanging out with all three women for the duration of the novel, and the story came to a satisfying conclusion.
Overall, recommended for fans of light, funny chick-lit with plenty of witty banter. A solid 3/5 stars for me.
I really enjoyed this chick lit story from the author who wrote The Devil Wears Prada. It was a light read with a good dose of snarky humor that I enjoyed. The three women featured in the book band together and help each other through various events in their lives.
A great read for anyone who enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada -- although the story doesn't really center on Runway and the world of Miranda Priestly. Miranda merely makes a cameo appearance and pulls a few strings behind the scenes. Even Emily, her former assistant, has to share the plot with two new characters. We don't get enough of her. Even so, this is a fun book and the perfect beach book. You don't need to be familiar with Devil Wears Prada, but being so does enrich your experience a bit.
A very fun read that takes a behind the scenes look at glitzy Greenwich, Connecticut.
This spin-off story of the "Devil Wears Prada" crew will be popular with those looking for a great beach read this summer. The usual snark about the ridiculous eccentricities of bored rich housewives is humorous and gives "ordinary" wives and moms a feeling of slight superiority and contentedness in their normalcy. This story sways from what seems to be the main plot line of Karolina's jerk-of-a-Senator husband setting her up for a publicity maelstrom so he can move on to a newer and younger model who can further his political career. That storyline gets muddied along the way as each of the three main characters question fidelity of their partners, contemplate affairs, and come to terms with life in the suburbs. A token appearance by Miranda Priestly, who now seems not-so-devilish, almost seems like an afterthought, and is given the honor of saving the day for Karolina. Not my favorite Weisberger book, but I still enjoyed reading it and will recommend it for friends looking for a beach read this summer.
Once upon a time Emily Charlton was Miranda Priestley's first assistant at Runway, but you really don't have to remember anything about that Emily to enjoy When Life Gives You Luluemons! Now, in here mid-thirties, Emily lives in LA and handles crisis-management for celebrities, think Britney Spears circa 2007. When a potential client brings her back to New York, Emily ends up staying with her friend Miriam and becomes involved in clearing the name of Miriam's friend Karolina. Karolina is a former model, now senator's wife, accused of drunk driving with children in the car - despite the fact that she had only drunk a 1/2 glass of wine due to ongoing fertility treatments.
Although there are many references to Mrs. Priestly, and she does make a couple of brief appearances Emily, Miriam and Karolina are the starts of this book. I loved Emily's sharp wit and the sneak peek into the lives of the ultra rich in Greenwich, CT. It was also fun to get a sneak peak behind the scenes of celebrity crisis management - gives you an idea of how much that is printed in tabloids is manufactured.
Over all a witty, fun, enjoyable read!
I loved "when life gives you Lululemoms" it is funny and engaging. The characters are well developed and keep your attention.
I would like to thank netgalley, the author and publisher for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
I really enjoyed this read. Ms. Weisberger clearly understands both stay at home mothers as well as the working woman. Having done both myself, it is refreshing to have an author who can so clearly relate to both without choosing a side of the fence. I laughed a lot during this book. The women were real and I could really relate to something in each of them. Very well done.
