I have read every one of Lauen’s books and I have to say this stands out among my favorites. I fell in love with The Devil Wears Prada and getting the chance to read about the continuing adventures of Emily in this book was such fun! I thought the book was full of humor and just an all around good time! It’s one of those books where you feel like you are visiting with an old friend. Who wouldn’t want to curl up for a cozy day if tea and reading about a long lost friend?!
From my blog: Always With a Book:
I'm a big fan of the movie, The Devil Wears Prada - it's totally a guilty pleasure type of movie, the one you put on when there's nothing else on and you just feel like having a do-nothing, laze about on the couch type of afternoon or evening. I love Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep - they were made for those parts and it's just a fun, feel-good movie. I literally had no idea the movie was based on a book until Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns came out - not that I read it, or the first book in this series. But, I was asked to read this latest book and I just couldn't refuse...and I'm so glad I didn't - I really enjoyed this one...so much in fact that I think I will go back and read the first two books!
As much as I love my thrillers and psychological suspense novels, sometimes you just need a palate cleanser - something lighthearted and fun and this was exactly that! It was funny and cheeky and I laughed my way through it and had a ball!
This story is basically Emily's and it was nice to see a more personable side to her. I liked that we see her grow as a person in this story. I also loved the balance between the three women - these women couldn't be more different from each other and yet, they needed each other more than they knew. They had to learn to depend on each other, trust each other and through all that, really came to care for and understand each other. It wasn't always easy or pretty, but it sure was fun to watch!
This is definitely the type of book to pick up if you are in the mood for something funny, something empowering, or just something in the middle. It's even got a cameo of the famous Miranda Priestly!
This was my first book by Lauren Weisberger and it was a treat. I know for sure I'll be picking up the earlier books in this series as soon as I can get to them. Have you read them yet? And I definitely see myself watching The Devil Wears Prada soon...it's been a while!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is the third in the Devil Wears Prada series. It is your typical Lauren Weisberger book, which I like!! I think she has a great writing style. This is one of my favorite books by her because there was a lot more drama and scandal.
This book follows Emily Charlton. Emily was one of Miranda Priestly's assistants, along with Andy. Emily is now an image consultant to the stars in Hollywood. Her career is washing up as clients are dumping her for the newest and latest consultant. She needs to get out of LA and heads to Greenwich, CT to visit her friend Miriam. Miriam was an attorney who is now a stay at home mom, but is going crazy. While in CT, Emily also meets Karolina. Karolina was a Victoria Secret supermodel and is also married to a senator. Karolina ends up getting a DUI while she was driving her stepson and his friends someone, although she swears up and down she wasn't intoxicated. The tabloids being pouncing and her husband now suddenly wants a divorce. She cannot figure out who would want to set her up.
Karolina needs Emily and Miriams help!! Emily to help with her image and Miriam to find out what is going on and fix it. This story focuses on these girls friendship and working together to save Karolina. I would recommend this book to any Devil Wears Prada fan or anyone looking for a light chick lit book. Can't wait to see if there will be a part four in the series!! I would also love another movie in the series as well!!
This was a quick and fun read. This is from the POV of Emily. I do think it tried too hard to be the DWP. I enjoyed having Emily be in the spotlight over Andy but found some of the plot slow. Still would recommend for a light fun pool read!
Some time has passed since we first met Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestly's former assistant. Now Emily is thirty-six and losing all of her best clients to the newest, hottest, image consultant. The latest blow is when the hottest teen heartthrob chooses her competitor over her. She heads off to her best friend's house in Greenwich, Connecticut to lick her wounds. Emily's oldest friend, Miriam welcomes Emily with open arms. Miriam hasn't been in the suburbs long, she and her husband left the city to give their three kids a chance at life with a backyard. Having Emily around gives her a chance to relive days gone. Karolina Hartwell is also a friend of Miriam's. When word breaks that the Senator's wife was arrested for a DUI with a carful of kids Miriam doesn't believe it for a minute. She knows that there is more to the story and she rushes to the aide of her friend. The three friends may be losing the battle against aging, but they at least will be losing it together. Will the three of them be able to come to terms with their current realities? But most importantly, will they be able to get Karolina her son back?
It has been a million years since I read The Devil Wears Prada, but it isn't necessary to remember anything about that book in order to enjoy When Life Gives You Lululemons. If there is anything that I understand, it is no longer being the youngest, freshest woman in the room. Lauren Weisberger tackles the topic of aging (and aging gracefully) in a fun and entertaining way. Karolina is losing her husband to a younger woman, Emily is losing her clients to a younger woman, and Miriam is feeling out of her element in a community where youth and beauty rules all. I felt a serious "Tawanda" moment (look up Fannie Flagg if you do not get that reference) when they took on the Senator. (He was a complete douchebag, by the way). In the process, the three women solidify their bond.
Bottom Line - When Life Gives You Lululemons isn't going to win any literary awards or even make it to some of the favored book clubs, but it is entertaining as all get out. Especially if you are a woman of a certain age, throw it in your beach bag and you are guaranteed to have a fun afternoon.

The best character from "The Devil Wears Prada" has finally gotten her spotlight in this fun, breezy, summer read. It is riddled with pop culture references, satire of the rich and famous, and laugh out loud moments, along with some heartfelt moments and positive images of female friendship. It was fun to spend time with Emily and see what she was up to and escape from the world for a little bit. Thank you Lauren Weisberger and Simon & Schuster for this treat.
I don’t think novels like When Life Gives You Lululemons are for me. Actually, I don’t think novels like When Life Gives You Lululemons are very entertaining anymore. I get that the story is supposed to be mocking the very milieu it describes, and yet, given everything that is happening in the world, the story felt inappropriate.
There are two specific areas which bothered me. The first is the obscene amounts of wealth, privilege, and their trappings discussed ad nauseam within the story. I get that it is fun to get a glimpse of how the other half lives, and normally I can have some fun with those stories. When Life Gives You Lululemons to me crosses the line between funny to just plain sad. We don’t need examples of people in positions of power abusing that power to affect others. We have that almost every single hour of every single day and have had that every day since November 6, 2016. We don’t need examples of over-the-top birthday parties where all the girls get $300 blowouts. We don’t need to descriptions of cars that cost $100k or people who have nannies and housekeepers and chefs. Most importantly, we do not need another story about someone in power using it to make the life of someone else miserable because it helps him achieve his goals and because he can. Again, we get too much of that in our daily lives to want to read a story about how wealthy the wealthy really are and how the powerful keep trying to screw over the less powerful.
The other area that bothered me is with the obsession with outward appearances. Between Emily mocking those wearing athleisure wear, Miriam bemoaning her baby weight, and Karolina being described as too thin and sexy – all of which occur numerous times throughout the novel, the mystery of why women have body image problems is a mystery no longer. In fact, so strong is the message that being extremely thin is the only way to be happy and have a healthy sex life that I finished the novel feeling deeply uncomfortable about my own body. I began to question my love of leggings as well as what I wear around the house versus in public. Even worse, I felt disgust at my weight. Novels like When Life Gives You Lululemons only perpetuate negative body stereotypes, and I feel like they have no place in this world anymore.
The thing is, while I suspect Lauren Weisberger is mocking the Greenwich community for its first-world, one-percenter problems, I am not certain this is the case. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion When Life Gives You Lululemons is meant to be a supposedly fun glimpse into the lives of the über rich, where we find out they are just like us except with a lot more money and people to do their work for them. This is not The Devil Wears Prada with its story of someone who eventually turns down the trappings of the wealthy and fashionable in order to obtain personal happiness. This is a story specifically about those people Andy left – people who are wealthy and fashionable and, let’s face it, petty. While ultimately all three women have to go down paths previously mocked in order to obtain their happiness, the story is just not the same. It is not inspirational but discouraging on many fronts.
Maybe this type of story is your thing. Maybe I just don’t get the genre. But I cannot ignore the way When Life Gives You Lululemons made me feel both while reading and after I finished it. What is supposed to be amusing is disgusting. Plus, the lesson about opening yourself up to happiness where you least expect it gets lost behind the bombardment of top-tier brand names and unending discussions of weight, clothes, and general physical appearances. The entire story is distasteful on many levels, and it is going to take me a long time to get over the feeling of repugnance I feel just thinking about it.
When Life Gives You the Perfect Summer Read: Lauren Weisberger returns with characters from the Prada series in When Life Gives You Lululemons
Emily Carlton was the bitch in 5-inch Louboutins in Lauren Weisberger’s The Devil Wears Prada (played by Emily Blunt in the film by the same name) and The Devil Wears Revenge–a sassy, Ego-driven go-getter to Andy’s ID-centric good-girl. Here she takes the wheel and drives around a new character and old New York friend Miriam, a former lawyer turned Greenwich, CT mom of three. When Miriam’s bestie (another new character) Karolina–a former model, now politician’s wife–winds up in the slammer for a fake DUI, the women rally around her. Busting out of their own stalled careers and the dullness that is Rich Housewives of Connecticut in athleisure wear is equal motivating factor and part of the fun. Read on the beach/lake with Chloé sunnies, Missoni bikini, and chilled rose.

While it took me a moment to get into this book, all in all I found it quite entertaining. It’s fast paced and the characters are engaging.
When Life Gives you Lululemons is the third book in The Devil Wears Prada series. I thoroughly enjoyed the original, and didn't much care for the sequel, so I wasn't sold on even reading this title. But then I saw an ARC available of it, and I remembered that Lauren Weisberger always tells such a nice summer time, light story, and I was suckered in.
And I'm glad I was.
This was so much more enjoyable than I thought it would be, and I found myself wanting to pick it up during my 15 minute breaks at work (this is a sign of a very readable book). When my lunch break was over and I only had about 40 pages left, I was so bummed to have to wait to see how it ended up. Perfect book for the summer time, either at the beach, poolside, or lying on the couch in the AC because it's just so damn hot out.
My rating: 4.5 stars
Great Beach Read. Lots of fun. I especially enjoyed the 3 main characters, strong woman dealing with different issues
Lauren Weisberger did an excellent job with this one. Laugh out loud moments. Loved every part of it.
Classically fun and funny Lauren Weisberger! I loved rooted for these women (and seeing some of the same characters again). Comical and spot-on commentary on suburban life (well, amplified in some communities) - being from Fairfield County, CT, I was laughing out loud and nodding along. I found myself unable to refrain from labeling the guys in the book - and I just have to say that Graham is a complete FORK! You'll love cheering on this awesome trio of women!
Gripping couldn't put it down!!!! Excellent read!!! New author for me and definitely want mofee!!! This was an easy read from start to finish. Grabs you from chapter 1 and keeps you hooked.
This book was every thing I needed to make me smile! It's wonderful. Great read. Recommend! Loved it!!
This book was like a breath of fresh air. Funny, engrossing and just an all around good read. Highly recommend. I will be reading more from this author. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
This is one of the most delightful books I’ve read this year! Lululemons is the quintessential beach read! Emily, Karolina, and Miriam are fun, witty, clever and at times hilariously mismatched! Filled with gossip, personality, mischief, and just the right amount of heartache, angst, and tenderness, these three ladies are sure to become your new best friends!
I really enjoyed "When Life GIves you Lululemons". I did not read the first two books in the series, but I think I understood the premise and story line just fine. I had seen the movie "The Devil Wears Prada" so I had a basic understanding of what type of characters and world so to speak they were living in. I really the three female leads, Emily, Karolina and Miriam. The character development was amazing and oh so relateable! The author, Lauren Weisberger did an excellent job at portraying each woman's history and tone throughout the entire book. I loved seeing Karolina regain confidence as the book went on and fight for her son. To be honest, the best part for me was the women lifting each other up. As they went through their struggles all throughout the book, they constantly look out for each other and work together to make things happen.
A few more things I'd like to discuss about the book:
1) Read this book! Women of all ages (including YA aged) will enjoy this book. It has the perfect amount of drama, personal growth and romance.
2) If you saw the movie The Devil Wear's Prada, you'd probably enjoy this read, so just read it! (And I will be going back to read books 1 and 2)
3) It is a relatively quick read (took me about 5 days while also reading 3 other books at the same time), so worst case scenario, you waste a few hours reading the book, but I do not think you will be disappointed!
Do you want people to read this book?
Tell them why they should seek this particular book out and read it. What would make you purchase a book you read a review about?
4) I think this book would be a good read for a women's book club as well. It has quite a few moral dilemma's that could easily be discussed by a group.
So to wrap it up, read this book! And enjoy the laughs along the way!
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 fun stars
This is a book that you can read in a day while on holiday sitting by the pool.
Simple writing, simple characters, light hearted. It does start a bit slow and it does feel like a book written to be a movie however I enjoyed it.
This was fun. I actually didn’t like The Devil Wears Prada—it was a rare case of preferring the movie over the book. However, I have enjoyed the author’s work since then so I gave this one a shot. I will say, there is a direction the book takes at the end that I did not care for. Not to get on a soapbox but I’m completely over the “they will realize how much they really want it” trope that happens so often regarding a certain topic.
