4 Stars for this thriller!
Steph’s whole family was killed 10 years ago and she’s still waiting to get her revenge. One night while she’s at her neighborhood bar, a stranger walks in and nothing will be the same again ... for either one of them.
I loved that Steph could take care of herself and had the ability to bring a man to his knees. I also loved how Hunter was so into Steph that he couldn’t think straight. There were lots of twists and turns in this story ... but at times it just didn’t make sense (I can’t say more or it will wreck the story for others). I loved Decker and can’t wait to read his story.
I received a copy courtesy of the author through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
So I enjoyed this but it didn't blow me away. Sadly. I hoped that I would really love it but sadly I just wasn't as interested. I loved the romance though! I enjoyed that a lot and everything but I think it just wasn't the best romance novel I've read. I think the main character was great and I enjoyed the male character as well, but I think my issue was that there were questions left unanswered and I was hoping they would be solved. I am iffy on what the guy did at the end, I saw that other people weren't keen on it and I'm on the fence but yeah. If you read it you'll see that. Overall it was a fun sexy novel and I did enjoy it!
This was my first Eden Summers book and I honestly put it off for a while given the synopsis. I love a good romantic suspense, but this one didn't strike me as one that I'd absolutely love. However, once I broke down and finally gave the book a read, I was hooked and had to force myself to put it down to get some sleep. This review is only for the main portion of the book, not the extended part that you can get of Hunters POV of the epilogue (if you sign up for the author's newsletter). I haven't received it yet, so I can't speak to whether or not it answers some of my questions that were left at the end of this one.
Steph/Sarah's entire family was killed 10 years ago (her parents, brother and sister). Her boyfriend that turned psycho killed them in an unspeakable way and it still leaves me baffled. Ever since then, she's been on the path to revenge. He was well off (as was she) and his family helped him get away with murder. He took on a new identity and she's been tracking him ever since to get revenge. That's where we're introduced to her, 10 years later as she decides to torture a senator's son. Yeah, not exactly what you'd expect from a former socialite in her mid-20s. Honestly, she was pretty tough.
So she's hanging out at a bar one night when a stranger walks in and tries chatting her up. She ignores him, or tries to, but she can't help but feel attracted to the gruff guy who won't back down. He follows her out, follows her home and they make out. Until she kicks him out (that was pretty funny and a bit dramatic). Then they begin their little cat and mouse game it seems.
Hunter is just that, a hunter or 'fixer' but he only hurts people who he thinks deserve it, not innocents. So I respect him for that. But he doesn't exactly contract his services out with the best people (of course, those who contract killings aren't great people anyways). He comes off big and bad, cocky/arrogant, but quietly dangerous as well. When these two are together, he's always fighting her to keep her safe (she was pretty stubborn) and we can't ignore the sexual tension between them. The sex is hot, but they honestly just had angry sex and nothing that I'd consider 'loving' (yet they fall in love).
The plot is pretty interesting, I found it building and building to the point where I couldn't stop reading, but the finale/resolution of the whole retribution problem was a bit of a letdown. Things resolved themselves way too quickly for my liking and it left me feeling letdown. There wasn't much explanation on why things played out the way they did and I was confused. I also wanted to hear more from the guy who killed her family (why did he do it really - was it really him just being mad at her for not spending time with him? How has he managed to stay under the radar for 10 years with no facial changes at all?). Honestly, the epilogue didn't make me feel as though everything was resolved and they'd get their HEA. What are Hunter and Sarah doing for work these days? Is Hunter still in the 'contractor' business? Will she reconnect with her extended family? I think if the climax hadn't ended so soon and the epilogue hadn't been weak, I would have given this book 5 stars. It left me with more questions than I had before the climax and that's unsatisfying.
I love so many of Eden Summers past books and thought this would be an awesome book too, but it was just ok. The blurb for this book was far better than the actual book. I have mixed feeling about the characters there is just so much back and forth of confusion and denials that it is hard to keep up with everything. A few parts of this story just plain out leave me confused.
Trying to right the wrongs of the past as two wounded souls come together. This book left me with a lot of questions as I tried to unravel Emma’s thoughts. Hunter would help her find her way but will she ever let the past stop haunting her every move.
I have a love/hate relationship with Eden Summers' work, as I really think she peaked with the Reckless Beat series. To me, this book was a disaster!
The one thing I liked in the book, which saved it from a 1 star rating or even a DNF, was Sarah/Steph's kick-butt independent attitude. She liked to be in control, sometimes a little too much, but I liked that she owned it. However, Hunter wound up coming across as high handed much of the time, despite the fact that he was actually doing what was best for Sarah/Steph.
The book wound up using sex as a weapon between them a few times, and it wasn't that enjoyable to me when it was. Sure, some of the scenes were steamy, but it felt ...wrong somehow to me, and had me skimming over those scenes.
I have to say I agree with one other reviewer, that likened this read to Classic Trek. I wish I had thought of that as I was reading it, it would have been much more enjoyable to me that way! As it is, it's not worth re-reading for me to find out. I think this is going to be the "straw that breaks the camel's back" for me, as I doubt I will continue to read the author's work.
Okay....so I'm the odd one out with this book.
You lost me when the names started changing; it became too confusing to read. Emmalynn to Gwen to Emmalyn again. Who is this character?
Plus I fully admit I hated the male character in this book. He was far too push and demanding with someone he didn't know. Come on...he tackles her to the floor after knowing her for how long? And rushing to her house because she didn't respond to a text fast enough?
Fast paced story with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing as to what will happen in the end. Even though they are not who they say they are, there is no denying the attraction between the two main characters.
I loved this story! Emma and Hunter were awesome together! Emma is trying to correct her past by killing a man who killed her family. And the night she finally gets some answers big bad Alpha Hunter shows up and messes everything up. Hunter is a mystery we know nothing about him other then he just came into town. He instantly falls ib lust with Emma and he can't figure out why he can't do his job and everything just gets messed up from there. Can love florish from secrets and lies?
What a story. Hunter is simply to die for. Good characters and story make this a winning book. Totally loved it.
A great read! This book has action, suspense, drama and hot sex scenes. I would love to read more about this couple.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
Yeah I didn't agree with all the five star reviews but everybody has them. So with that said, I wasn't crazy about this book, I like Eden Summers and have enjoyed her books but this one wasn't for me. I originally started off liking the heroine, and I am not sorry to say but I enjoy books where they get revenge on nasty individuals, but then I thought she turned weak when Hunter was around, and I can't say I was crazy about him.. Anyhoo, there are a lot of secrets that get divulged at end and some I feel I didn't get an answer too..
Very enjoyable read! A nice balanced mix of lust and story. It was an easy read coupled with being a page turner; I finished it in just a few days. Not my typical genre that I read but very much liked it!

Omg, hot as hell cover. Thanks Netgalley for a copy to read and review. Wow, well what can I say? Definitely a book that draws you in and glues your eyes to the pages. I have no idea what Hunter is, contractor...mercenary,...alpha male with a fascination for Steph. Steph has been searching for the guy that killed her entire family and along the way she collides with this alpha that can't seem to stay away from her. I thought it was an amazing read. Five hot stars....loved it.
Boy did I love this book. I really didn’t want it to end. Great romance!
HUNTER by Eden Summers
Hollywood Heat #1
You know that book that you pick up and just can’t put down…the one that keeps you up till 2am…then when you wake up in the morning you realize you just finished a dream starring you and the male main character of that book you read last night? That was this book and boy oh boy did I enjoy it! But, I am an eclectic reader that enjoys a bit of dark and different with strong male and female characters from time to time ;)
Vigilante justice

This book had it all.
The book blurb gives the basics but…it is so much more! I do hope that Decker, Torian and his sister get a book of their own as this is a cast of characters I definitely want to know more about!
Thank you to the author who granted me a copy of her work through NetGalley – This is my honest review.
4.5 Stars
I'm not usually into spy dramas, but this one really piqued my interest. The protagonist Sarah is out for vengeance, and she finds help in a very unlikely place: a mysterious tall/dark/handsome man that seems too good to be true. But you know what they say, if things seem too good to be true they usually are.
I couldn't put this down. I ended up reading in one day.
I really enjoyed this read. It was dark, gritty and real, and the icing on the cake was the level of steam.. I loved the tension between Hunter and Emma and the game of cat and mouse between them. I could have used a little more romance at the end, but overall a very satisfying read.

Fantastic book that has everything and anything you could ever want in a book. From the suspense and intrigue to the smoking hot sizzling sex between Hunter and Steph/Emma, secrets, lies- big lies and betrayal.
Steph/Emma has a little penchant for getting her own brand of justice, those who commit crimes against women and go unpunished. Her latest target is a well known son of a Senator who sadistically beats, rapes and leaves women and has managed to go unpunished because of who his father is. Steph has this one planned out to perfection, she's brutal and clean but she also has an ulterior motive she wants information. After dousing his drink with Roph and getting him back to her hotel room where she has everything set up, she manages to get what she wants, a name. Pure and simple.
Nothing else, just a name. She proceeds to beat the sense out of him and leaves him. Returns home and walks across the street to the neighborhood bar she pops in once in a while. It's small. The owner is her landlord as well and in walks a stranger. Brent the owner asks this guy questions non-stop. When Hunter (she doesn't know his name for a while) and she make a connection, that was it.
She leaves, he follows and he walks her home.
The sexual chemistry between these two was incredible and so well written. Hunter is taken with her, yet he's there to watch her, she's got something he needs and he's willing to wait for it. Hunt has a friend who works with him too Decker. Decker is pretty much a wise ass, but you sort of overlook it.
Steph/Emma has a history that unfolds as the plot unfolds as well. Hunter is a distraction, at times I wondered if he really meant to be, rather than his obsessive infatuation with Steph.
The characters are perfect, the plot is flawless and flows so well. It's emotional, and will have you flipping those pages to find out what happens next.
It's a perfect 5 star read.

There is more to life than vengeance. All it takes is finding the right person to give you the life you deserve.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
