Rachel receives an urgent message from her friend Carly. She takes off to find out what is going on and ends up in jail. When Logan comes to get her out they no more than step outside when they are shot at by a sniper. This is a fast paced, suspenseful story. Will they find Carly? Will they give in to their attraction? This is the first book I have read by this author and I would definitely recommend it.
This novella is part of Ms Hunt’s series titled Alpha Security. Though it was entertaining and well developed , I felt I missed a lot due to the fact that I had not read the previous stories on which this one is based.
Still , I was engaged in Logan Callahan’s and Rachel Kline’s story and found both to be likable and complex characters. The storyline moved quickly from Philadelphia, to Vegas in an attempt to help Carly, a dear friend of Rachel’s . They have shared a heartbreaking experience.
The secondary characters, mainly Charlie, were also interesting , albeit the fact that a new reader like me , would be at a lost since everyone has a history that we didn’t know about .
As a well written novella, I give it a 4 star, but personally I would rate it as a 3.5. I would highly recommend new readers to start with book 1 prior to reading this one. I sure wish I had or that it would have been suggested by the author and/or publisher.
I was gifted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I went into reading this novella with the understanding that the two main characters already knew each other and that this is the fourth book in the series. But, I did not realize that even though this is a standalone novella it would probably have been better if I had read the other books. I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a scene. That being said, the story was suspenseful and I liked the chemistry. I wanted more since everything seemed to happen so fast. Unfortunately, that is what sometimes happens in short stories.
The storu was a little hard to understand at first. Once I was at about 40 % the story started to draw me in. It was a little corny with the Elvis marrage chapel.. but when in Vegas ...Elvis wins.
I received this novella free through Netgalley. This is a quick read for when you want a couple hour distraction.
This was a fun story. I usually don't jump into the middle of a series, but never really felt like I was lost. They explained enough of the backstory so I was able to catch up. The banter between Logan and Rachel is cute and they don't waste time trying to deny their feelings for each other.
This book is, I think, number 3 in the series has a lot of action, drama ,and of course chemistry between Rachel and Logan. I do recommend starting with book number 1 though, because it's kind of easy to get lost without the back story. Even if you don't though, this is an exciting one to start with.
Loved this book! I just recently discovered this author and am I glad I did. This is the latest addition to the Alpha series and has Logan rushing to aid Rachel. We first met both characters in the first novel and I love how the author put them together in this book. Rachel has struggled to overcome her issues when she rushes to the aid of her friend. Unfortunately, her friend wasn't there and, before long, Rachel is literally running for her life - with no idea why.
This is a a fast paced story that fans of the genre will love. The author made me fall in love with the characters and feel invested in their story. While this is a novella, the story was meaty and felt like a full book. This is a stand alone story, however, you'll enjoy it so much more if you've read the prior books. I've added the author to my must read authors' list. If you're a fan of the genre, you probably should too.
This review will be published on my blog on the 21st March 2018
Hot target is a romance novella from April's Alpha Security series. We jump in after a couple of books so the book alludes to events that have happened in the past, but we never feel like we have missed any of the story. It's really easy to read as a standalone, but if you are anything like me and a complete sucker for the alpha types, you will want to head back to the start of the series and find out more about these characters.
This was fun. I have a total soft spot for these types of romance. Rachel is a survivor who is sick of everyone treating her like she will break. Logan is a sniper who is feeling the emotional toll of his life catching up with him. When Logan is the first person to bail her out of trouble the sparks between them reignite.
Hot Target is some what typical of the genre, but it is very well written, like I said it was fun, it was easy to follow what was happening and I want to read more about these characters. They are all adorable
If readers have read the first 3 in the Alpha Series this one will fit right in. Rachel has been in recovery and is trying to help her friend. She is feisty in a good way. She struggles to figure out what life has left for here and this story will have readers going back to the first 3 to fall in love with this over the top security series that readers will have to suspense reality.
For a Novella the story is filled with action, romance and lots of gun fights. The wild roller-coaster ride is everything you come to expect from April Hunt series and I can't wait to read more.
Thank you to Netgalley and Forever Yours publishing for the advance copy.
This was a good book in general. Writing was pretty good as well, the only thing is it was too short. So for me everything happened too fast. Don't get me wrong I love faced paced books but this time I think Logan's and Rachel's story could have been longer. Looking forward to see what April has in store for us next!
I was running low on books to read and when I saw this novella up for grabs on NetGalley I thought I would give it a go. This novella is part of a longer series and while it can easily be read as a stand alone (as I did), there are events which (presumably) happen in previous books which give the two main characters a back story together.
Logan Callahan is a former Marine sniper and a member of Alpha Security. He has had a one-night stand with Rachel Kline, a school-teacher he helped to rescue 18 months previously after she was kidnapped and force fed drugs in Honduras. 24 hours later he is bailing Rachel out of a Las Vegas jail after she was arrested in a sweep of a local brothel and drug den.
This is a novella in the vein of Katie Reus. although Logan is quite as Alphahole and the sex is on the tame side (in comparison). It's a super short fun read but without having read the previous novels I felt no real connection to either Logan or Rachel. I did however like that the hero didn't have to be all guns blazing and macho 24/7 and accepted wiser counsel - that was a nice change of pace for this type of novel.
Overall, I liked it but I didn't love it. It was a good entry to see what April Hunt's writing and plotting were like to see if I might like the rest of the series but it was too short for me to develop any engagement with the main protagonists.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
It was a good read I definitely enjoyed it but I didn't realise it was a novella so it was definitely short!! But that being said it was good!! It had a lot if action that really got your heart pumping!! It definitely made me want to go check out the rest of the series!! It had a nice heat factor!! Definitely spicy!! Lol great read! Little short but is a novella! Nice heat factor! So I recommend it!! If you've read the others then definitely read it!!! Thank you netgalley for sending me another great read!!
This is a short read. It has the action, drama, and of course chemistry between Rachel and Logan.
I was drawn in because well, any time I come across the phrase "alpha" in a book, I check it out. There were quite a lot of detailed descriptions as Rachel and Logan tried to make a run for their lives from whoever was targeting Rachel, and I felt bogged down by some of it. If you're into romance and some action, then this is worth looking at. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
A short novella that would be great for those that love and adore this series. I felt it could be read as a standalone, but you would benefit more from having read the other books in the series. Unfortunately, I have not so I didn't really feel connected to these characters. However, I did enjoy it enough that I will begin reading this series soon!
This made for a great rainy day read. I couldn't put it down.
Sometimes, not being able to remember the plots of previous books in a series can be a bloody bane. As a result, ‘Hot Target’—a novella to boot—felt like a zany read that had me tumbling into the craziness of Vegas with Rachel and Logan with a backstory that I struggled to remember despite the bits of retelling in this short story.
There was ample material to get on board with however, despite the brevity of the book (this came in at about 90-ish pages) and the plot, once in locked in place with the details hammered out, moved at a fast clip as Logan and Rachel finally stopped their year-and-a-half-long dance around each other. Logan/Rachel were an entertaining couple, though I particularly loved seeing Logan with the many faces he wore around people and the way that fell off when it came to Rachel.
Several unfamiliar characters that flitted in towards the end made me a little confused but I’ll probably remember this for the very, very charming Logan whom I wished had his own full novel-length novel just to get him in action.
