This was an okay cookbook in my opinion. It was very carb heavy and a lot of stuff I wouldn’t want to feed my family day in and day out. Good for splurge meals but overall I wasn’t tremendously impressed.
Love, love, love this book. It honestly will be my go-to gift for new mamas since all the meals are practical and delicious.

I previously reviewed Hollis' self-help/self esteem book and had to DNF after 75%, so I skimmed a lot of the introduction in this cookbook. HOWEVER, I did like this cookbook. The recipes are totally doable, and mostly affordable ingredients. The photographs were also well done.

Beautiful pictures, easy to follow instructions. Some yummy options! I just find it hard to use a cookbook on my kindle. I still need a hard copy!
A realistic cookbook. This was just a sample of the full cookbook, but I would love to see the other recipes because these are exactly what busy people need.
Real dinners, made in a real kitchen, not a kitchen that has every ingredient and tool known to man. I love that these meals are easy to prepare These meals can be made in a reasonable amount of time for the average person to prepare and eat before 8pm. Wonderful book and would definitely buy.
Feels like looking through a friends Pinterest board.
Nothing ground breaking in this book. Fun to flip through and a few good recipes.
A good choice only if you don't normally cook at home or have just started cooking.
Upside there are really great photos and instructions for those who need them.
Just not useful for my family.
Delicious recipes, easy to follow, and nice to have on hand for hectic nights between sports and entertaining guests! Thanks for another successful book, Rachel!!
Anybody who knows me knows that I'm not much of a cook. I hate it. Sometimes I hate cooking so much that I start to hate food! But this cookbook is the FIRST cookbook that I have read cover to cover. I literally sat down and meal planned my entire week while reading it. The introduction was my favorite part (because it was all personality and real life more than food) and it kept me going to the very last page. Now, I'm off to the store...
Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a copy of this cookbook in exchange for my honest review.
This is the exact sort of cook book I prefer. Its real people food. Recognizable ingredients. Recipes that don't require hours of prep. ANd the introductions are delightfully personable. Hollis has great page presence.
In this day and age it seems we are always on the go. Some days thinking about dinner can be that straw that broke the camels back. This cookbook is perfect for not only those night but with any night. The recipes are quick and easy in the book. There are no real gourmet dinners but they can taste that way. Flipping through the book I didn't notice a lot of recipes I had never heard of but that's ok too, it can remind me of some things I had not cooked in a while.
These recipes are easy enough that older kids, teens, and even my husband could cook them with no problem. The ingredients listed are easily found in grocery stores. I also noticed that if you have a small family or very large these recipes are easily cut in half or doubled, so you can make enough for everyone. There are pictures too!!
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.
Real Life Dinners is a great cookbook filled with tasty easy family friendly recipes and tips. The author has a great way of sharing stories and tips that make you feel like she is a friend of yours sharing her insights. I can’t wait to use these tips to make cooking for my family an easy and normal part of my day.
I love to cook. Not necessarily every day, but it’s something I enjoy. The kitchen is the heart of my home, and dinnertime seems to be the only time of day I can get every member of the family in the same room at the same time. It’s the time of day we sit down, unplug, and connect with each other, but I often fall into a rut when it comes to what to make for dinner.
What I loved most about this book is that it is 100% relatable. With 2 busy kids, a husband who travels, and all the madness that comes with our daily lives, the struggle over what’s for dinner is REAL. There are recipes that appeal to all palates are easy enough that my kids could jump in and help. The layout is pretty, colorful, and easy to follow (also great for cooking with kids). And I think the recipes for spice blends alone are a gem—they would make great gifts.
I think this book delivers what it promises, but it is not for me. The recipes are fairly basic, and I have similar recipes from sources I trust more. I also think that the pictures, for some reason, were a little off putting. The coloring seemed all wrong in my galley. That being said, I think this book would be a great first time cookbook for a busy mom. I am neither a mom nor an inexperienced cook, so it just did not appeal to me.
This cookbook was my introduction to Rachel Hollis, and y'all, I love her. She is so down to earth and honest. Are the recipes earth shattering? No. They are realistic and easy to replicate. I quickly moved onto her new book (Girl, Wash Your Face), and I am loving every minute of it.
LOVE this cookbook. Delicious recipes that are easy to make and don't require obscure ingredients. Can't wait to purchase the full cookbook to make the rest of Rachel's recipes.
I received this book as an advanced read copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
The recipes in Rachel Hollis' Real Life Dinners: Fun, Fresh, Fast Dinners from the Creator of The Chic Site, are easy to follow, delicious, and time-saving. Hollis' book features photographs and step-by-step instructions for each recipe, which make it easier to know if you followed the recipes correctly. Why don't more cookbooks do this? My absolute favorite recipes from the cookbook are the Garlic-herb Smashed Potatoes (there was a family fights for the last one), the Cowboy Steak Salad (for those who love meat and potatoes), and the Spicy Beef Enchilada Soup (yummy).
I am not familiar with her website, but I am interested in checking it out after reviewing this cookbook. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in simple and time-saving recipes that the entire family can enjoy.
I LOVED the excepts that I received of Real Life Dinners by Rachel Hollis! She brought me back to my childhood reminiscing of growing up with Pillsbury biscuit rolls in my fridge and how to transform them into an easy quick dinner of mini pizzas for my family! I can't wait to make many of these recipes and become family favorites!
Dinner is the most important meal in our house so I really love that this book is full of just simple dinner recipes for a real family.
This is the kind of cookbook I look for-it’s not too complicated or fussy - it’s for use for everyday meals with the family. I have earmarked several recipes to make and look forward to it. The food seems delicious-yum! I will be looking to buy the book as I was given some of it, not all of it. If the rest retains the same quality this is a definite keeper.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.
